They Silenced Me on Juneteenth Weekend. I Won't Stay Silent. I came to Elsewhere tonight genuinely excited. At the door, I was told there were no tickets available. I accepted it -- until my friends already inside told me tickets were still being sold at the door. So I did the most reasonable thing in the world: I asked security to double-check. What followed felt like a coordinated effort to make me feel small. Multiple security guards screamed at me in response to a polite question. When I didn't immediately disappear, one of them looked me in the eye and said: "Now you're annoying me." I was then removed from the premises -- not for causing a scene, but for asking a question. The events manager, Chris, showed up shortly after. He walked straight past me and patiently explained the whole situation to the person standing directly in front of me. When I tried to ask him the same questions, a security guard cut me off: "Did you hear him?" As if I had been answered. As if I didn't exist. Chris eventually confirmed that yes -- tickets were sold out. But some people were still being let in. Looking at who got in and who didn't, I couldn't unsee the pattern. This was Juneteenth weekend. I don't think that's lost on anyone reading this. I'm not here to tank a business. I'm here because New York is a beautifully diverse city and the people who work the doors of its venues carry a responsibility to treat every single person with equal dignity. That didn't happen tonight. Elsewhere -- I'm not asking for a coupon or a refund. I'm asking you to look at what happened at that door and do better. Not for your ratings. Updating this review because I had a dismal and unnecessary interaction with one of elsewhere bartenders. I didn't get their name but it was a white male presenting person with long tawny brown blond hair and a septum piercing. 6/15 around 11:30 pm at the very end of the event I was attending a wonderful event for Tales of a Cocktail x Espolon and at the end of the night I was trying to get my friend to register with Campari academy // the QR codes were all over the bar... I asked "Hi do you guys still have any of the QR codes that were on the bar ? For Campari academy" and this person laughed in my face sneered at me like they were mocking me and said "i don't even know wtf that is" I clarified "oh the Pink QR codes that were all over the bar are they gone ?" Again they repeated " i don't even know what you're even talking about .. so no" The interaction was so rude and really put a bad taste in my mouth I went further and asked "oh yall probably threw them out already" , i asked him "you work for elsewhere right? And not espolon" - he laughed in my face again and said no ... I was trying to be nice and remain positive so I told him "oh you should look into it then! You're a bartender right ? They do lots of free parties and events like this one" His response was so nasty he smiles in my faces and said "yeah I don't wanna do that I don't really care" so I kept my composure because at the end of the day this was an event for all industry professionals, bar owners, bartenders LIQOUR reps, hospitality leaders etc- and this was the demeanor this person had.... I replied "oh you don't care huh? Well the information is there if you want it have a goodnight" and as I was walking away he said "I really don't" This was such an unfortunate and unexpected interaction just a few days short of the NBA playoffs party I attended with NYx Cosmetics at Elsewhere. - I work in hospitality because I genuinely want to be there and I want to give people exciting memorable experiences- not mock them to their face and try to make them feel small... read more

I really enjoyed my night seeing Mietze Conte. First time here and the whole set was on the rooftop. It's nice that there's free water, and the venue is outdoors, it's a very beautiful view. Nice sound system and there's plenty of space to dance. read more

Really cool inclusive music space with lots of guidelines to keep alternative scene kids safe & happy. Nice to see a venue provide a safe space for up & coming artists & musicians. They post the band set times throughout the venue which is great. They have cameras with visible monitors recording all public spaces to keep people safe & free from harassment, which is very cool. Bathrooms are very darkly lit & welcome all genders which is common in Brooklyn these days & works well. Saw Adult Human Females here - they were KILLER! Also saw Shred Flintstone & TDA - both very good. read more

One of my favorite venues in BK. Elsewhere is a unique space where diverse people of all ages can enjoy a variety of live music performances and rooftop shows at times like 4pm-10pm during warmer months. One thing I really love about this venue is that because there are sometimes 4 t different artists playing the same evening, you can bop around for the most part into different areas. The main area is the Hall, which has an interesting layout with a ramp on the side closest to the stage and an elevated platform on the other side of the room. It can get really packed on the dance floor down there as this is usually where the more well-known artists perform. Bar is to the side. My favorite room is Zone One, which is a lot more of an intimate setting and has great sound. There is a blocked off elevated platform in the backside of this room as well, but I've never seen anyone aside from staff and crew be allowed up there. Also can get packed and has a bar to the side. There are a few different staircases that all lead to the indoor upstairs area called The Loft. While I've never personally recognized one of the names on the lineup for the space, I've heard some really awesome music here and is a fun place to explore. I'm sure you've noticed the pattern, but it can also get really crowded here as well. The bathrooms are also upstairs (love the bathrooms here). The rooftop upstairs surprisingly wrapped around a bit and is larger than you think and has a large bar as well. I've also noticed that in the outdoor smoking area downstairs, they sell pizza? I'm not sure if that's always been a thing, but I am excited to try that soon. There's a coat check available and at times I've seen a cashless wristband system implemented similar to the one done at Avant Gardner, but the most recent time I was there they just had tap to pay. You can also rent the space for private events. Service isn't the best here to make a meet up plan if you have a group. Probably the best part of Elsewhere is the community that they've built. Although this venue has gotten quite popular, there is definitely a thriving community kept alive by the discord, newsletters, and their memberships (not sure if they are still doing this), streams, etc. Another highlight is the staff, who are kind and helpful. With any venue, there are always aspects that aren't the most ideal, like crowds and expensive drink prices, this is a venue that does a great job engaging with local artists and music fans and I am happy to continue to support this space and the awesome talent they book. read more

If I have to travel to the ass end of Brooklyn for shows, it better be worth it and this venue fit the bill. Close to the subway station and phone free for the show I was at (UWAY.) Came here with my friends for my birthday. One of my friends squatted down to rest her legs, but they tried to kick her out. WHICH is fine except they were trying to get her outside in 3 degrees weather without her coat. We said we would go out but needed her coat from coat check, and they were not having it. I was with the headliner, who personally handed me his wristband and brought me behind the rope. Security observed this and chose to override it anyway. When I calmly asked what they required from me, I was met with raised voices and hostility despite the fact that I was standing there silent. No policy was cited. No explanation was offered. Just escalation. Multiple bystanders were visibly confused. So was the headliner's manager, who is now following up directly with the venue. This wasn't a misunderstanding. It was a performance. The longer I remained calm, the more agitated one guard became -- as if my staying composed was what provoked him. That dynamic is deeply concerning in a role tasked with de-escalation. One shorter male guard with a thick, shaped beard that framed his jaw positioned himself directly in front of me and continually yelled at me instead of clarifying anything. A female guard wearing glasses walked up and started repeatedly yelling at me despite the fact that I had not said a word to her and pulled the rope closer toward me, escalating the situation further. When I asked the shorter male guard what he needed me to do, his response was, "Go to another party." If your security team cannot distinguish between maintaining order and asserting ego, that's not professionalism it's a failure of judgment and a lack of self control in a position that requires restraint. A venue's atmosphere is shaped by its staff. The atmosphere felt reactive, thin-skinned, and unnecessarily adversarial. I've spent time at this venue both onstage and off, so I'm familiar with how it typically operates. That's what makes this stand out. We left by choice--me and a member of the headliner band. We came here for the first time to see an up and coming Gen Z rock artist that reminded me of Panic At the Disco!, and were surprised at this little gem tucked away right on Bowery, an intersection I'd walked/biked past hundreds of times in my life. Security was seamless and the bottom floor bar was really cozy, perfect ambiance for a date night. We went through another set of stairs back up to the venue space, and were pleasantly surprised to see that it had a small dance floor and stage that leant itself to this intimate setting. It reminded me of Irving Plaza, but more secluded. Going up another series of stairs leads you to the large open window and bar with views slightly elevated to see the stage and pit. The crowd was a diverse one with people from all ages ranging from school children to 50/60 year olds, which was fun to see. My only gripe was that there were two chatterboxes peanut gallerying right behind us in front of the upstairs bar, and the staff didn't really seem to care about the concert going experience. i requested a refund as i am disabled and do not frequent night clubs. i was met with distain and lack of compassion when asking for a refund for services i did not receive. delt with a less than lovely individual named Francesca who showed no compassion when i described the accidental purchase situation, my disability and request for refund. i was made to feel worthless as i live on a fixed income and dont have to means to lose 135$. Shame on Elsewhere for their lack of understanding and caring. I will have to go without food and other necessities if a refund is not issued and for this i am angry. read more

You have to download the DICE app for your ticket. Once you are in, you are given a wristband to link to your credit card to pay for drinks and coat check. The venue is huge. There are 4 rooms on the inside and an outdoor rooftop. There are a variety of DJs in each room with different styles of genres EDM. We went early and there were not a lot of people. By 12am, several of the popular rooms were filling up. When we left sometime after 12a, there was a long line of people waiting to get it. I loved the vibe after 12am, there were a diverse group of people dancing and having fun. My friend enjoyed dancing here. There is a courtyard with a food truck in the venue. The drinks were a bit expensive it was $18 for one of those large beer cans. This is a place I would return to. read more

They need to do better on hiring people that won't PUT THEIR HANDS ON YOU. Came here a few days ago and my friend was holding food. Understandable that there is a no outside food allowed policy. The lady security was nice enough to let my friend place their food on the side to take later. As we were leaving, my friend went to grab his food and a short looking dude comes out furious, no idea what his role was. As my friend tried to explain to him that we were leaving and that he was just getting his food, he shoved my friend and said "alright then get the f***out" ???? What was the reason on putting your HANDS on someone who was just trying to get their stuff before leaving? I don't know if he had a bad night or something but looking at the reviews seems pretty common for the staff to put their hands on people FOR NO REASON. read more

I've been to Elsewhere 5+ times and it's consistently been overcrowded (regardless of the room that is booked for a show). I've been to multiple venues in the area and this is by far the worst (even worse than avant gardener of recent years). My partner and I were very excited to see one of our favorite artists perform there, and unfortunately, we couldn't even get through the door. Last night was the last straw for me - my partner and I arrived an hour and a half after the doors opened (for a set list that was 5+ hours long) and then were denied entry (even though there was nothing said on the ticket about a specific time for doors closing). The staff and security was nothing but rude to us and had no valid reason for denying entry (would not give us a reason when we asked too). We had a valid ID, no prohibited items on us, and were sober. This is the last time i will give elsewhere a chance and hope artists care about their fans enough to book at another venue. read more

Went to Elsewhere to see the Crane Wives on 10/12 and it was awesome!! I'd never been to Elsewhere before and had no idea what to expect, but this is an amazing venue. Excellent, but unobtrusive security in the way in, quick line to get in, and a unique payment system for their bar. The show we saw was in The Hall and it was great. They have a ton of space, the bar is against the one wall and they had it staffed up so there was no waiting to get drinks. The cocktails were awesome and were actually a little cheaper than I would have expected at a NYC music venue. The lights and sound were great and the whole venue is designed to make your night out an immersive experience, not just a concert. My only qualm is that I wish they had some seating so you can rest your back for a few minutes every now and then, but it's not a deal breaker. 10/10 would definitely see a show at Elsewhere again. read more

After a recent experience, I plan to boycott this venue. I arrived for an event and brought my interim driver's license as I was waiting for the permanent driver's license to arrive in the mail, after my old one expired and was taken by DMV during the renewal process. The security didn't accept this license, so my friend who entered offered to speak with the event planner about this and see if there was a solution. While I was waiting, the security decided to kick me out for no reason. When I attempted to explain the situation, they threw a chair at me. I won't support venues that hire security who participate in unreasonable, unprofessional, and abusive behavior. read more

This has got to be one of THE WORST CLUBS that I have ever been to. Came to NYC on vacation and fully expected to have a night of fun, but how wrong could I have been? Came here on a FRIDAY NIGHT, paid $37 cover which is INSANE. I'm from Chicago and even our most popular clubs run $20-25 cover at most. Well I paid, expecting it to be worth it once I get inside. NOPE. The ground level dance floor was dead. No one was dancing, the bar was empty, the music was trash. I think, "Maybe the other levels would be better" and start to explore. The music on each level was the exact same as it was on the ground level. Sure, the crowds were bigger, but the vibe was the same. No one was dancing. I decided to leave shortly thereafter, fully disappointed with my experience. As its name suggests, you should go Elsewhere if you're looking to have a good time. read more

Came here for a ticketed event, showing up about an hour after the doors opened. By the time we arrived, there was already a long line out the door. At one point while we were waiting, a bunch of people ran forward and created a second line next to the original, but then merging in with the original right at the front, which was very upsetting. People were quite confused as to where the separate line for buying tickets was as opposed to the line for people who already had tickets. I ordered a hard kombucha once inside, although it was a bit pricey, so I am glad I drank some before arriving. I enjoyed the many different rooms playing different music and having overall different vibes, although my favorite part was the outdoor areas, such as the nice rooftop which had great views. read more

Visited for the first time to watch "Of Montreal" and it was awesome. Arrived an hour after the event started and the line wasn't horrible. I also highly appreciated the scanned wristbands that made buying drinks easy and efficient. The space was large and not overly crowded for the specific event I went to. Buying drinks was a straight forward process as well. Lots of cool lighting, although minimal effects. The bathroom is for everywhere regardless of gender, which I normally don't appreciate due to safety purposes - however, it was staffed with employees and there weren't any issues. I'm a big fan of synthwave music, so when I learned one of the artists I follow was touring and making a stop in NYC I thought it would be fun to catch their show. This is what led me to Elsewhere and, concurrently, my first concert in Brooklyn. I did a little research on Elsewhere before heading out to Brooklyn - mostly having to do with commute. I decided to drive instead of take the train since the latter option would require a few transfers and a few reviews here on Yelp stated it's relatively easy to find parking. They were right - Elsewhere is in a mostly industrial area and I found a spot right around the corner from the venue. After going through the usual admission process (wristband, ticket scan, ID, etc.), I made my way inside. From what I could tell, there seem to be a few different sections of Elsewhere, but I was in the Hall - ie. a large open area with a stage. Like the neighborhood, it has a sort-of industrial look to it, but done up nice for performances and such. The space was could probably hold a hundred or so people - and there's a bar in the back which was a nice feature. As far as the concert itself, I had a great time - acoustics were good, and even though it's standing room only, there was adequate space to move around. Staff was great - check-in was fast as was service at the bar. Overall, Elsewhere was a fun experience and provided a great environment to have a show. read more

How sad how far this place has fallen. What once used to be one of the coolest, and also very queer friendly, venues in Brooklyn, is a shell of it's former self. An embodiment of how insufferable the area around the Jefferson Street L strain has become. The dudes from Williamsburg who like to go out in dress shirts heard this was a cool place, and started coming, in droves. I assume it's because they have the money, but the place caters to them now. It bends the knee. They are given free rein to act like it is a college dorm party, and to hit on anything with 2 legs. Do not expect to survive a night here with out someone doing a pathetic pickup attempt or making lewd comment towards you. They claim they don't tolerate this behavior, and they used to uphold this, but now, there is 0 enforcement, at all. I imagine it comes from dealing with the aforementioned crowd, but the staff here has also become cold, mean, and combative. I can empathize with them, but it doesn't make my experience any better. Unfortunately, they book some good shows here, so I'm sure I will be back. I can only hope one day that maybe this place starts practicing what they preach again. read more

Attended 16th anniversary party for The Bunker! I found the space to be spacious, though I think some rooms could use a bit more lighting (the Hall especially). My personal favorite part of elsewhere is the Loft. It's much more intimate and not as overwhelming as some of the other spaces. Drinks can set you back for $11-13. read more

I used to love their bar (as they used to do more seasonal drinks, the coconuts were such a core memory lmao) here but they've really ruined that part of the experience with their wristbands. Pre-COVID, my partner and I went to Elsewhere for the first time to see L7 perform (L7 was awesome!). The venue is located an industrial area, so you can find street parking if you're driving in. For a rock show, decent sound system. There's a bar in the back on the main floor, but I heard there's also a bar or drinks service on roof or other level. Feels like a place trying to be too much of everything--came here for a rock concert (Luna), for which it was an adequate venue--nice size/intimate, but acoustics average at best. Drink prices were kind of insane--$12 for a can of KCBC beer--but so it goes, I guess. The thing that irked me was how quickly they pushed everyone out (or upstairs) after the show to clear room for a DJ/dance night. Loved the band I saw, and the staff at the venue were really nice, but they need to work on some things. The AC is almost non-existent. We were inside due to rain (rooftop was closed) and were sweating buckets before the show even started. The line outside the door was around the block, and they delayed the start time of the show until everyone got in. I appreciate that, but at the same time standing out in the rain to enter a sweatbox and then wait an hour past start time is NOT fun. Bar (just two bartenders) was predictably swamped as a result of nothing going on. It's also really, really small. Even with a well behaved crowd, exiting once the show is over is rough, dancing you feel like you're just rubbing up against other sardines. I grabbed my stuff early because I could sense the looming chaos and was glad I did. Otherwise sound and lighting were decent for a small venue. The unisex bathroom is interesting. On the night I was there, they had someone in the center of the room on a stool. I asked if they were a bathroom attendant (their gender was unclear, not that I cared, but this was in part how I found out the bathroom was unisex). They told me no, they were there to make sure everything stayed safe, and that everyone there tonight was so calm and nice, that it was a big difference from the crowds they usually dealt with. As happy as I am that the band I came to see has such a cool fan base, that's not a comforting statement. This employee was not a bouncer or security, I'm not sure what intervention would have been used had something happened, but it was strange. Maybe don't have the only available bathroom be unisex if you can't keep people from being hurt? One of the investors has been accused of rape by multiple people, and community outreach at this "safe space" was supposedly stalled by the venue itself. There is a boycott of the venue, I'm not sure what the status currently is. Given my experience and the information I found online regarding the lack of transparency about the rape allegations, I doubt I'll be coming back here. read more

The venue is great and they have amazing artists to perform. However the vibe from the jump is off. Red flag #1: they didn't cancel the show or postpone during a hurricane and state of emergency. The greed. Red flag #2:First thing you're greeted with is screaming guards and staff (For no reason). Y'all really gotta fix that. TOO many people complain about the staff. I get that the security contract is probably cheap but it really ruins the place. Red flag #3: the drinks were so bad. Red flag#4: some of the staff were tweakin! I mean stumbling around, slurring words, falling asleep. Red flag #5 staff pointing in vague directions to leave the place. Just do better. I came to elsewhere on 09/17/21 for my first live show since covid, and let me tell you it did NOT disappoint! Rolled up at 5:45 for 6:00 doors expecting I was gonna be a several rows back. Nope, I just walked right up to the stage! I chatted with the friendly peeps around me, who at this show were mostly college students from Pace, New School, Pratt etc. Someone told me the drinks were overpriced but since I don't drink it didn't really matter to me. The bill was a sold out show featuring up and coming hyperpop artist Alice Longyu Gao and reigning queen of raunch rap Cupcakke. An unexpected combo. The crowd didn't get as hype as I was for ALG even though she put on a great energetic performance. I understand there isn't as much crossover in their fanbases as there usually is for a headliner and opener. Still she popped off and played awesome new music that got me excited for her album. Things really got lit when Cupcakke hit the stage. The empty room where I walked right up to the stage was no more, and the place was packed to the gills. Everyone shouted along to her classics like Deep Throat and Old Town H*e. She had such great energy. You can see it in the pics. Thank you Elsewhere for booking Queen Elizab*tch herself. Cupcakke said during her set that NYC remained her favorite place to do a show and I can see why when there are perfectly sized venues ready to sell out and vibe out when she comes to town. Show ended nice and early at 10, so it'd be totally possible to go out and do something else after. I just caught the subway. It was 5 min away, if even. I don't know what some reviewers are saying about the area being desolate; Mission Chinese, House of Yes, and more restaurants and clubs are within a few blocks. Anyway I caught the L, went home, went to bed, satisfied with my elsewhere experience. I'm gonna be back for the Lil Mariko, Magdalena Bay, and Umru shows in October! read more

I recently went to a concert here for Forester (featuring Koiter), a duo group, yet surprisingly had a strong fan base. We were in the smaller rooms, which made the space intimate for fans of Forester. The lighting was great, the presentation was great, the drinks were great, and the atmosphere was pumping!! When you walk in there isn't much of a walkway, you just enter the place which is a room with an elevated stage. The lights were dim and cool. Forester didn't get on till 830pm, and Koiter was on at 730. It was weird to have Koiter parallel to the stage, because when you walk in you absolutely know where to look since there is a stage. But Koiter is a mellow house DJ that needed his DJ sound system equipment, so I guess there wasn't a place to have it set up without some delay, so he was put at the back of the room. It was sort of funny cuz he made an announcement "Hey I'm Koiter I'll be opening for Forester.... but I'm back here" so that was kind of weird Also had time to head to the bigger stage where Mind Chatter was performing. Lightshow was awesome and cool to see. As far as the staff here at Elsewhere, everyone was great. I had no complaints. You're going to have a great time here at your concert! read more

First of all, too-cool-door-guy: relax with the ticket scanning, remember that a 10 year old can do your job. Second, no need to have guests guess where you want to stamp them; just let them know. Beyond entry, I've been to a lot of shows in my day and never have I seen a headliner, with TWO opening acts no less, end a show at 10pm. Is Anna of the North working on Norwegian time? (kidding, kinda). Am I missing something? We arrived at the venue around 9:15 (doors were 7) and I guess she must have been 3-5 songs in (assuming she went on around 8:30? - absurdly early for a Sat night show) so we only caught 4 or 5 fun jams. I digress, the little of what we heard of the show was fantastic- she played some good hits, dance-alongs, the slowest Price cover ever (zzzzz) and the mixing and sound were well balanced. They book a LOT of great acts here. I've been to both Zone One (capacity 200) and The Hall (capacity 700). This venue is not easy to get to as it's located in a desolated industrial area. There are also NO food options anywhere, so eat before you make the trek to the venue..But its actually pretty quick to get an Uber here after the show ends. They have an outside area for smokers. Fantastic place to dance. Great music in the hall, saw Niche, Underground System, and Poolside. To enter you need to show ID and vaccination. I didn't wait long on the line to enter. Once you enter put your credit card on your bracelet if you want to purchase drinks at the bar. It was easy to do. Poolside was incredible in person! Niche was great. Underground System was fantastic. This woman played the flute while the DJ spun some tracks. Overall, I loved dancing at Elsewhere. The best 5-1/2 hours of dancing at this venue. Next time I'll try the others - the rooftop and zone one. read more
