I went here for a while when I first moved to Riverside. I am willing to pay extra to support a local business. But, I was consistently treated poorly by their staff every time I shopped there, so I stopped going. If the chain stores can employ local kids, and have them be polite, why can't you? I was thinking about giving them another chance, but since they aren't requiring masks, social distancing, or limiting the number of people in their tightly packed store, I'll pass. read more

The staff has never been less than friendly and helpful. They'll lead you around the store and help you pick out necessities if you have a new kitten, dog or reptile. There's plenty of food and supplies for nearly any pet you can think of, and they even have a good assortment of reptiles for purchase if you're interested. I like to come here to get feeder mice/rats for my snake, and get crickets for my bearded dragon. I believe the crickets are roughly 20/$1.00 which I think is an absolute steal. The staff helped me pick out a cricket keeper when they saw how many crickets I was going through, and the proper food to keep them alive and healthy enough to be feeder insects. The prices throughout the store are very reasonable and realistic. My favorite part of Elliot's though, is their huge rabbit that loves butt scratches! read more

This place has is amazing. They sell a huge variety of pets, and they are VERY knowledgeable. I used to go to Petco and Petsmart all the time, but was very disappointed with the lack of knowledge about pets. IE: Petsmart told me a baby turtle did NOT need a heater for the water. = =; They also told me not to feed it fish, and just pellets. WTF ? Anyhow, I highly recommend Elliot's. Their prices for their pets are much cheaper than Petco/Petsmart, the employees more helpful, and the overall experience much more satisfying. read more

I loved this place but was treated TERRIBLY, as are the bettas. I actually would have given the store five stars a couple days ago. I come here to shop for all of my pets. I keep dogs, birds and fish as well as land snails and since finding this store last month have spent hundreds here. I like to rehabilitate fish so I purchased two betta fish who had severe finrot. One of them survived the other died of swim bladder disease two days after purchase. I was told to come back if there were any issues with the fish within 72 hours. When i went back I noticed a lot of sideways fish who had clear signs of swim bladder disease & finrot so i thought i would point it out to someone who worked there (wrongly assuming he cared about the well being of the animals) and he was viciously rude to me as if it was my fault they clearly use a less than ideal breeder. Everyone else who works there is quite sweet, but I also found out someone else's 2 bettas died from Elliots this week so I definately wouldnt reccomend purchasing a betta fish from them. I wish i could give them 5 stars, But that one particular employee doesnt seem to care about the animals or customers. He even tried to talk me out of purchasing another fish "well if you dont like them why are you buying another one?" RUDE. Also? Why tell me to come back if there's an issue if You're going to brush me off and tell me not to buy fish from you? Thankfully my favorite employee was there, when i find out his name I will add it to this review. I purchased another fish (who looks healthy) BECAUSE I saw his friendly face, I would give him alone 5 stars. Also the store has a wide selection of goods. read more

Been going here for years. We buy bully strips that come in many flavors and we buy the original flavor. For some reason today when my husband went to get them instead of the usual 12.99 price, original flavor was 14 99. When he asked about why "I don't know" was the response 3 times! This is my go-to pet store. It's sort of an old school experience, but in a good way. They have a little of everything and the hipster workers are almost always helpful and abundant. I work just right down the street from this place and I always pass by it on my way... I finally decided to give them a try.. I have a purebred golden retriever and an Australian shepherd/golden retriever mix. Both active yet chubby lol... They eat ALOT to say the least. I've been doing a lot of research on their dog foods and finally decided on blue buffalo wilderness.. If you know the brand then you know that's it's hella expensive.... We're talkin like at least 2 days worth of your paycheck LOL. Anyway I usually get them from Petsmart so I can rack up my Petsmart rewards but when I went into this store I noticed the prices were a little cheaper... About a $3-5 difference. Customer service is excellent too. As soon as I walked in the door I was greeted and not only got helped by 1... But 3 different associates. Maybe because I'm a girl? Hehehehe. Had bought a betta there a year ago for my son and he looked to be feeling under the weather. Called Elliot's and the young lady suggested a water additive and diagnosed the fish as being bloated. Went down to the pet shop, bought the water additive, didn't feed the fish for 24 hours. Low and behold, my son's betta fish named Elliott (named after the pet store) was swimming around and looking normal again! Crisis averted! read more

Have been going to Elliott's for years and buy all of my dog food there. Occasionally buy some toys but the prices are a little steep. Prices are way too high on beds so forget about them. Love to support a local business. Recently bought a hard rubber ball toy at Elliotts for a 7 month old puppy. It was $7.99 so almost as expensive as a Kong. The puppy has had a Kong for a few months now (along with other toys that are not as hardy) but wanted to give her a bit more variety. Gave her the toy and literally (no exaggeration) in less than 5 minutes she had chewed pieces off of the toy. This toy was supposed to be a hardy chew toy like a Kong and it was $7.99. If she has it for an hour and destroyed it I would be upset but not surprised. Less than 5 minutes? That's way unacceptable. So I took the toy back to Elliotts and was going to ask for an exchange for a Kong. Give me credit for the faulty toy and I'd pay the difference for the Kong. Elliotts could send the faulty unacceptable toy back to the manufacturer and hopefully tell them to not market toys that are supposed to be hardy like a Kong. I didn't want my money back but I didn't get a chance to explain this to the employee. He was a hipster looking kid. He said "We don't take back toys that have been destroyed by a dog. That's our policy." He wasn't rude or anything just matter of fact. I tried to explain to him the puppy had it less than 5 minutes before pieces were being chewed off. He said that no toys are indestructible. I said a Kong is pretty close. He said smugly, "No it's not." My puppy has had her Kong for a few months now and she chews the heck out of it. It's lasted. It might be marked up but no pieces have been chewed off it by a 7 month old puppy. If you have to buy dog food, support a local business and get it from Elliotts. Prices are decent and they have a good selection. If you want to buy toys, beds, leashes, harnesses or anything like that. Go somewhere else or online. Their prices are too high and the customer service is lacking when it comes to "returns". The employee should look at each individual case instead of one blanket policy. This is not a big chain that can afford to alienate customers. read more

The store was nice had a lot to look at, originally went just for a pinky for my pet snake I asked the guy at the counter and he charged me for the pinky. He had one of the employees get it for me and gave it too me. When I got home I got ready to feed it to my snake but too my surprise it was a fuzzy and I know it's not a big deal because it was only a dollar but they should be more careful on what the customer is asking for. This place had great reviews so we decided to pop in, we just got a puppy who was struggling with digestive issues. Took him to the vet, once meds were done we were advised to purchase food specifically for dogs with sensitive stomach. We walked in not knowing where to start, we were greeted immediately and walked over to all the kibble. A young man approached us probably because we were reading every bag, he was extremely helpful in selecting a possible best option. He provided knowledge behind source of ingredients and information passed down from nutritionist. We are so glad he jumped in to support, we took his advise and purchased NutriSource as he mentioned it's known for being a great transitional option. Our pup loves the kibble and reacted great to the change, seems like his digestive issues have been cleared for a week now, we noticed the change immediately. Great pet store. We love going in here to see all the fish and reptiles. They are always super friendly and have what we are looking for from medical needs to treats. We recently got a kitty who had worms and they had the Bauer de-wormer that was sold out at other stores. I do forget it is neaR the Riverside plaza and thE hubs reminded me to go theRe. . The reason I'm giving it 2 stars is because I recently purchased a baby bunny from this location and not even a week past when the bunny had died. Before it had died I had noticed it was acting strange and took it to the vet. The vet told me the bunny had stargazing disease, and explained that it comes from long exposure to its urine and having a dirty enclosure. 1. This rabbit was well taken care of, I have a rabbit now who is perfectly fine and isn't sick. I have experience with rabbits. 2. It takes a long time for the rabbits to contract this disease and it comes from dirty enclosures. I am writing this review as a buyer beware, I was sold a sick rabbit. If your are thinking of purchasing an animal from this location I would advise that you do lots of research before. I've also purchased feeder mice from here and they die before I even make it home. The conditions that most of these animals are kept in. Are dirty and unhealthy. And the store needs to catch up on properly taking care of there animals. read more

Came in for a feeder rat since where I usually get them wasn't open and my first warning that I should have walked right out was the rabbits they had with very obvious eye infections. I also noticed a few snakes that appeared to be malnourished. I proceeded to buy a medium rat and fed it to my snake. Two weeks later and my snake wasn't passing stool and had no interest in eating. Fast forward a few months and she still isn't eating. After a visit to the vet I came to find out she had parasites and needed to be put on antibiotics. I really needed freeze dried bloodworms and the salesman told my friend not to buy them and buy freeze dried mealworms instead. It was for a water bird and it was a baby and does not eat mealworms that are bigger than his head. I do Wildlife rehab and have been doing this for 20 years and needed that food for a special diet. I called 5 mins before closing because of his mistake and he told me that they are closing and will have to come back tomorrow. He didn't seem to care and said just return it and hope the bird lives. Well the bird died partially due to them not caring and giving the wrong help. read more

I have bought birds, fish, tanks, feeder mice, dog and cat and bird and fish food. Plenty of good advise given to first-time buyers as well. I was scared hand-feeding my baby Indian Ring Necks but they offered lots of advice. Place is clean, pet friendly, and full of fun stuff to see and buy. It's my favorite local store. Been going here for years and found it helpful to use their dog food system where they give you a bag free after you purchase 12. Up until recently they used to honor it but the last 3 times I've gone to purchase a bag of dog food they told me I'm still at 11 bags. After the third time of this, i politely brought it up and showed my receipts and they told me that they couldn't do anything about it. I'm still going to purchase dog food because I need to anyway. The staff here is great, and I come here often for pet supplies, but I would never ever consider getting a pet from here. The fish tanks are disgusting, filled with grime and dead fish, nearly all fish are covered in ich disease, and many of the fish are on the brink of death if they aren't dead already. That's just what is visible, I could only imagine what other health problems they have. I can't speak for other animals like reptiles and rodents. They look healthy enough to me but I am inexperienced with them. I would be very wary though if their fish is any indication at all of their health. read more

went here for the first time today with my son as it is literally 2 minutes from home. usually have to drive across town to PetSmart for crickets and worms etc. for my kid's dragon. but this place was so much better than a big box retail store. the overall atmosphere was 100x more comfortable and easy going, staff were awesome, prices are great and selection is par none. was finally able to get our dragon some Dubai roaches no where else seems to stock anymore. definitely our new place for all our pet needs read more

I've always had an awesome experience here. I have three picky eaters (dogs) who like to try different foods and the guys that work here have always been super helpful and kind and they have NEVER been inappropriate or unprofessional. I also like how they sell the Kennel Cough Vaccine here so I can give it myself before I board my dogs. I recommend this shop to everyone! PS- it's more than a little disturbing that someone would accuse a man of something like that on a yelp review of all places. Wow after several thousand dollars spent here over the years. It's the same thing every time. I called to see if they have aquatic moss. The guys over the phone says yes it's very healthy just got a shipment in today. I drive over there every single moss plant is dry and almost completely dead. I told the guy about the incident he says yea we have to throw out this shipment. I reply I just drove 20 mins can you give me a discount maybe I can bring it back to life your throwing it away anyways right. He says yea 1 dollar discount I walk out and will never do business with this company again. These guys are scam artists unhealthy fish poor customer service all they care about is the dollar. Definitely DO NOT recommend this store. Found out about this store from a friend about a year and a half ago. At first it was the best LFS I had found, and they had pretty reasonable prices on fish, crickets, and tanks. Customer service has declined ever since we started shopping here. There have been times when I've walked in, picked out what I want, and stand around trying to make eye contact with an employee for 30 minutes before deciding it's too much trouble for what it's worth. One employee in particular, Isaac, has actually been sexually harassing towards my sister, one of my friends, and myself for quite some time. His comments ranged from referring to my friend as, "big tits," telling another employee "if she's 16, I'm 16" in reference to my minor sister, and asking me if "it's that time of the month" after interjecting himself into a conversation and being told to mind his own business. This same employee tried to sell me a fantail goldfish that's only worth $3-4 as a $6.99 Shubunkin koi fish. There's absolutely no mistaking a fantail for a koi fish, so this obviously was only an issue because of his personal problem with me as a customer. On top of that, it goes to show he knows absolutely nothing about what he is selling. I only still shop here because they hook it up on crickets, but on more occasion than one Isaac has attempted to over charge for the small amount that I always get. If I'm going to pay extra for crickets, I might as well go to Petsmart and get customer service that matches the price. read more
