Unfortunately, from looking over the reviews here most of them are for the grammar and not the store and I am just like those people. The store is overpriced. Please know that if you want a guinea pig or a cat, you can get one on craigslist for free almost every day of the year. But I'm here because my boss has been paying me to bring her dog to Petco for grooming and when I arrive I have to sit around and wait. Today she explained it was for the person that's scheduled to groom the dog that I brought, but I don't understand why Petco allows customers to be inconvenienced by this . All I got to say is, they have the WORST customer service in the grooming area. This lady in the front desk today had such a horrible attitude as we walked in. I've been taking my dog there for a while & this time she just kept finding every reason to not groom my dog. I walk thru here a lot with my 5 year old to see the animals after getting our haircuts next door and usually the bathroom is nasty but otherwise a normal store to me. When my son finally seemed ready for a pet we agreed on a hamster, did our research and went to Petco. This was a few months ago now but the interaction has stuck with me and I want to share it here- my sons first pet purchase was entirely overshadowed if not ruined by the Petco woman employee who got the hamster out for us. Without skipping a beat she immediately spoke to my son as if he had done something wrong, spoke so condescendingly and rudely to him about how to care for the animal, I did cut her off and lied and said we were short on time but I wish I had told her the way she was talking to my kid wasn't ok and took my business elsewhere. I'm beyond upset, I've never been treated with so much disrespect from a so called "manager" his name is Robert. I wasn't even in the store I was on the phone with my mother while she went in to do an exchange for me since I'm out of town on a work trip, and my mother is watching my dog! She ends up going in heat and to make things convenient for my 65 year old mother who's also watching my 11month old daughter might I add I ordered the diapers and they end up being too big! She goes in with the receipt and the manager was so quick to shut my mom down (I'm hearing all of this) so she puts me on speaker to talk to Robert and I explain what happened and even have the receipt and he said "yeah you didn't buy it through us" when in fact it did come from their store within the same HOUR I'm sure he could've looked up the transaction if he wanted but had an attitude and said you if you don't like it you can leave. And to "get out" WHAT?!? In all my years of managing not one but two companies whooooo trained him?! That was insane! He didn't want to exchange the same item but a different size. My poor dog is suffering and I tried to make things convenient for my poor 65 year old mother and it became insanely hostile and uncomfortable. Please get rid of Robert he doesn't belong there. DO NOT USE THIS STORE FOR GROOMING!! Terrible customer service. I stood at the grooming counter for 20 minutes while the worker engaged in chit chat with another customer not even acknowledging my presence. Went back the next day and stood there for 15 minutes until someone behind the window signaled she would be with me in a minute. 10 minutes later I was surrounded by other customers with their pets when it started getting chaotic due to some dogs not getting along with each other I decided to leave and find a more professional place to take my pup. Extremely Disappointed with Vetco Vaccine Clinic Experience I visited the Vetco vaccine clinic for a simple SNAP test--something that should take five minutes, tops. Unfortunately, every time I encounter Lynn Humphrey (who frankly should not be addressed as "Dr." anymore), it turns into an exhausting ordeal. I've dealt with her multiple times, and each experience has been consistently frustrating. She is combative, uncooperative, and appears increasingly incapable of handling even basic procedures. This visit was no different. Staff looked for every possible excuse not to perform the test--clearly out of laziness, not policy. When I asked the Vetco "manager" (a Latina woman with braces) to show me written guidelines supporting their refusal, she couldn't provide a single document. I stood firm because I know the policies and I knew they were making excuses. Once they realized I wasn't backing down, they reluctantly agreed to perform the test. Even then, Humphrey handled the situation poorly. My cat was completely calm--no hissing, no fighting--yet she acted irrationally fearful and handled him with unnecessary roughness. If a vet cannot handle a calm cat without being rough or nervous, they do not belong in this field. It's painfully obvious that she is no longer mentally or emotionally competent for this role and should not be entrusted with animals. I sincerely hope that this review leads to an investigation into Dr. Humphrey's conduct and prompts meaningful changes in how this Vetco clinic is managed. Pet owners should not have to advocate so aggressively just to receive basic care. To be clear, this complaint is not directed at the store or its employees--they've always been helpful and professional. My issue lies solely with the Vetco clinic operating inside. Unfortunately, there's no direct way to leave a review specifically for the clinic. If anyone knows how to escalate this to Vetco corporate or report this veterinarian through proper channels, please let me know--I will gladly move this review to the correct place. Can hear the whole conversation about they are understaffed today with alot of call off's that it's taking 4 to 6 hour's for grooming. After waiting I'm finely helped to be told my dog needs to be shaved because the groomer doesn't have time to brush my dog out saying she's matted. If not your going to have to reschedule. No I'm good your not going to shave my dog down to get a quick $75 dollars cause your groomer is lazy and don't wanna do her job. What a joke won't be coming back. The older groomer, short reddish hair, Amy P, should not groom. I should have known when the rebooking includes Bath and hair cut. But she asked if I wanted his nails trimmed, anal expressed. She's said if customers don't ask, they should not expect it. So I said yes, I thought those things were included in the bath and cut service of $$81, but I had taken him to PerSmart, and that was included so I might have made a mistake. I said yes trim nails clean ears and anal, but she wanted to sell nail buffing. But I said not this time. She returned our dog with a nick and said he is licking himself too much. She didn't say she nicked him. I brushed out the dog before the appointment and he was without mats. A chihuahua was walking past and I said I'd like to try a short cut, like the Chihuahua, pointing at the chihuahua. I asked for a short cut. She scalped him in some areas and snipped hair so so unevenly. I will post pictures. Horrible grooming. He is now acting sick, lying down and shivering. I had rebooked any groomer. What's mistake!!! I am disgusted. She should have known about the breed. Shitzus' are known for their long eye lashes, whiskers and beautiful hair. She should not have cut them off. She should know how to blend, cut, shave, and clip. I've had our dog for over a year, And groomed him every month between Petsmart and Petco, but started allowing Petco to groom him because they are closer to our home. What a mistake. I found a terrific new dog food, and Petco is the place to go if you live nowhere close to the manufacturer's boutique stores with huge stainless steel kitchens in wide open view. So the brand is called Just Food For Dogs. And they offer freshly made meals, complete with a nice selection of proteins, cooked with fresh vegetables and fruit, then quick frozen. They use human grade ingredients. So I guess, in a pinch, you and your doggie could actually sit down to a meal together. They look like hash. The bottom line is, my dog ate it. No snooty rejection. And that is practically a miracle. She also has discovered she loves some of their house made jerky treats as well. The venison and the beef liver are her personal favorites. Dr. Humphrey is a Veterinarian that is a hidden jewell in Orange Crest. I have lived in Orange crest for 23 years and have been disappointed by the Veterinarians in Mission Grove and Wood crest. The Veterinarians were uncaring and I felt that it was all business to them and they would automatically order Labs and follow up with appointments to give me a diagnosis on my dogs problem . I honestly felt that I was being gouged. Before I met Dr. Humphrey, I was ready to take my dog to SanDiego for a Veterinarian exam. I told my Friend that I didn't trust these Veterinarians where I live. She suggested Dr. Humphrey at Vetco. And to tell you the truth I have not been disappointed. She was absolutely wonderful and amazing! She took her time with my 13 year old Weiner dog. She noticed that my dogs teeth were Loose and rotten. She scheduled Dental Surgery. She removed 14 teeth. One day later after Post op my Weiner dog was happy and very personable. I also wanted to commend the staff on the wonderful , professionalism that they exhibited. There was not any wait time for my appointment. Dr. Humphrey seen us immediately. In conclusion, I recommend Dr. Humphrey at Vetco.. She is a great Veterinarian. You will not be sorry. We had a terrible experience with grooming at this location and would not recommend taking your pet here for a service. I took my dog here for a grooming appointment with Gaby, and was extremely disappointed in the service and the outcome. I was scolded for being 7 minutes late, even though there was a line at the grooming counter. I had an uneasy feeling from this because she was incredibly rude to me, but I still (regrettably) decided to leave my pup for the grooming service. When I came back to pick her up, they had completely shaved her ears down to almost the skin. This was not the service I asked for and any true groomer could have avoided this by trimming out any knots. It was clear to me that she was in a rush because her shift was almost over. I will never return here and it makes me sad to wonder how they treated my dog when I wasn't there. Do yourself a favor and take your dog to a groomer who actually cares. read more

As an animal lover I've come and gone to several pet stores to get my pet supplies. Petco, petsmart, I'm not the picky type because let's be honest, customer service isn't always what we'd hope it to be. That being said. The employee in the aquatics department named Caleb impressed me with his expertise AND his actual caring of the fishes in the department. I made a 3:30 appt on line and drove 40 minutes to bring my Goldendoodle here for a bath. When I got there she "evaluated" him and said that he had knots in his fur. Duh...I said just wash and dry and I will take care of the knots per usual. One vet at the riverside Vetco said my dog had cancer in his lungs. I went back another time (same location) and a different vet said he did not. He actually has cancer in his leg. I've been trying to obtain his medical records and X-rays and they told me they couldn't provide me that because of their policy. Obviously I freaked out telling them I paid for their services and X-rays that i shoukd 100% be entitled to any and all his records. So after getting the run around and after hours and hours of calling them I finally lost my sh*t and they finally gave in to sent me my dogs records. I also asked for his X-rays I found out they don't have them on file cos they never entered it into his account/records. Again, I kept calling and calling to get a copy of his X-rays sent to me i found out any number you call for Vetco goes to a call center and not the actual facility. I'm currently dealing with an emergency for my dog. I need these X-rays now. I spent a lot of money there and they totally failed at documenting my dogs information/X-rays. The call center said they were STILL unable to get ahold of the actual store. So I found the store number for petco and just waited for an actual store employee to pick up, they tell me that Vetco is closed today. The damn call center could have just told me that instead of me calling a million times (I even asked multiple times if that facility was open and I asked for their direct line and was told they didn't know and that the Vetco doesn't have a direct line) how do they not have a direct line??? I did ask multiple times if I go to Vetco myself would they be able to give me his X-rays and they said I have to wait until the store calls them (the call center) or emails them to tell them if they have entered in his X-rays onto his account. Absolutely ridiculous!!! They should have provided me the day he was diagnosed with cancer by Vetco in riverside all the information (medical records and copies of x-rays) i shouldn't have to ask. I was so upset that it didn't cross my mind to ask so that was a huge fail on my end. Anyway, if you don't want the run around to obtain documentation, I highly suggest you request it at your actual appointment before you leave and make sure everything is correct and ALL information is provided because they will not provide it otherwise. IM EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED AND SICK TO MY STOMACH BECAUSE MY DOG NEEDS EMERGENCY CARE NOW AND BECAUSE I DONT HAVE HIS X-RAYS, THE EMERGENCY VET CANT PROCEED WITH HIS AMPUTATION. I'm also upset with the first vet we saw at Vetco riverside because he gave me the wrong information about my dogs cancer diagnosis. It is not in his chest, it's in his foot/leg! Just left the store with no refund for a brand new bag of puppy food with maggots and bugs in it. I called Petco immediately after I found the bugs. I had just fed one puppy and was getting ready to feed the next one and when I saw a bug in his food bowl. I called this location immediately and spoke with a clerk on October 16 around 7 PM. I called to inform them about the bad bag (just in case the had others. I didn't want other puppies eating bad puppy food) and asked if I can just bring in the receipt for a refund. I didn't want to put a bag of dog in my SUV that had maggots and flying bugs in it and wanted to trash the bad immediately. He understood and said all I needed was a receipt and told me that they experience this with the particular brand a lot. Awesome, I thought. I did a late night run to get some more food for my puppies. Which cost me time, more money, and my puppies had diarrhea from the quick change in dog food for that night and the next morning. The next day, I purchased a different brand of food at a different store. (Paws in Redlands is awesome!) Again, more wasted time. A week later, I came back to this store with the receipt and was told I would not get a refund without a bag. I explained what I was told and did not get a name (I should have to cover myself, but I was pretty upset that night.) Why would anyone put a bag of flying bugs and maggots in their car?! I asked to speak with a manager and was then told I would have to wait 30 minutes since he is on lunch, but he would tell me the same thing: no refund. I spent $49.99 on dog food here that was thrown in the trash. This is for the Vetco services only. The manager was rude and blunt both at check out and check in. I arrived on time with my pets and was very polite to them. She was rude from the start. Maybe she woke up on the wrong side of the bed... Apart from this, the vet staff at every location heavily push for their specific flea and tick meds and shame you if you don't purchase from them even if your pets are on another brand of preventative. The relief vet did not seem to care much about my pets. The only reason this place gets two stars instead of one is because of the lovely vet tech. I am nearly 80 yrs old, trying to recover from a heart attack, and today I was trying to be a repeat customer here. That didn't happen. My appt for my 2 dogs was at 12:30.. I was told(when making appt on phone) to be there 15 minutes early. I was, and was told by Gabby that "you're too early, come back in 15-20 minutes". We waited in my car since there's no place to sit and my energy level is not normal yet. At 12:30 we went back and was told by a groomer that I'd have to wait still. I told her this was my 2nd time trying to ck in, theres no place to sit and...she suddenly turned very hostile saying, "...this place could give ME a heart attack, it's very stressful, and I think you're the type that would call 20 minutes after you drop your dog off to see if it's done! This review is regarding the VETCO only. My dog literally has an infection in both ears and I made an appointment with the vet and got email confirmation. The doctor decided to just go home early and I wasted my time going there. It's very unprofessional and unorganized. If I could give zero stars, I would. I went back a few days later, they treated my dog properly and he is immediately feeling better BUT they did not let me stay with my dog so I don't know what they did or how they handled him. First off the Veterinarian was great . Decided to try this vet since our regular vet was not available . Went in for a simple case of conjunctivitis and a nail trim . One of the nails slightly embedded in the pad so when they cut it they had pull a small piece out which caused it to bleed . Vet prescribed preventive antibiotics and Tobramycin for the eyes . When they did the estimate they never included the meds but was not worried as I knew what the going rate is on meds . Or at least I thought I did . For a 10 day course of Amoxicillin they charged me $110 which by the way is about $80 more than Chewy and my regular vet . For the Tobramycin they charged $45 for a small bottle worth $15 in the retail market , Basically overcharged $110 for the 2 meds . Pretty disgraceful. Plus the exam fee was 25% higher than the going rate . Lesson learned . I will never go back unless they are my last resort . If you don't mind getting gouged or money is no object then feel free. read more

My cat, Tiger, has been losing weight so I used the online scheduling app to schedule an appointment. It was easy to use and I received several acknowledgements of my appointment. I received a phone call several days before my scheduled appointment notifying me of a cancellation and offering me a much earlier time slot. I accepted. Arriving at the Vetco location, I was greeted and went through the initial data gathering. The doctor, Dr. Ross, came into the exam room and did a cursory exam. I thought the exam was rather superficial and very quick (this is why I gave 4 stars instead of 5). She suggested blood work and went over with me several causes of weight loss in older cats (Tiger is 11). I agreed and blood was taken. I paid for services and received an $80 discount because of the first visit coupon I had received after my online booking. The blood test results came back the next day. They call me 30 mins before my appointment to tell me my dog can't be seen today and we need to reschedule. I said it's a little more on the concerning side so I'd like her to be seen today. They tell me they are booked up for the day. I said how is that possible when 3 hours ago I called and the girl gave me 6 different appointment times to choose from? She said it looks like they have all been filled. I said yea, and I am one of them, so can you see my dog? And she said unfortunately no and it needs to be for another day. Don't expect your appointments to actually be honored. Horrible customer service with the grooming department at this location. I scheduled an appointment online for my longhaired chihuaha mix, who weighs 16lbs. When we arrived, the groomer (I think her name was Ashley?) informed me she wouldn't be able to groom my dog because he was too big, his hair was too long, and she was "off in an hour and a half". She stated that the appointment time was meant for "small dogs, like chihuahuas". Umm, he's literally a chihuaha mix? Additionally, the PetCo website has a section where you disclose your dog's size prior to making the appointment. According to their website, a small dog is 10-22lbs, which at 16lbs my dog safely falls into. The groomer stated she "doesn't make the website". I'm sorry, but you work for PetCo. If I'm booking an appointment for grooming AT PETCO I expect that you are going to follow the guidelines on your own website, not refuse to honor an appointment because you're "off in an hour and a half" and apparently can't do a bath and cut in that time, even though the salon is supposed to be open til 7pm and it was only 3pm. I visited the vet today and Dr. Humphrey was very nice and gentle with my dog. He had allergies and she helped him as best as she could. She was very respectful towards the budget. The nurse showed me a list of the medications/supplies the doctor recommends I buy for my dog and I wasn't able to purchase all of them at once but I did go back and get them later. The list had the cost of each medication and I felt in control of my spending when they showed me that. I was able to pick and choose which is what I didnt get with other vets.
