I visited the vet today and Dr. Humphrey was very nice and gentle with my dog. He had allergies and she helped him as best as she could. She was very respectful towards the budget. The nurse showed me a list of the medications/supplies the doctor recommends I buy for my dog and I wasn't able to purchase all of them at once but I did go back and get them later. The list had the cost of each medication and I felt in control of my spending when they showed me that. I was able to pick and choose which is what I didnt get with other vets. The front desk staff were also very nice and helpful. read more

So I bring my Husky in for grooming and he's the sweetest dog. It's raining. I leave to get some things done and I get texts and calls ten minutes later to come pick him up. I was purchasing dog products at your store yesterday and observed your store Supervisor Rosie blatantly eating a strawberry shortcake ice cream at the cash register while helping a customer, I found this to be very unprofessional and she appeared to be giving the customer a hard time in helping her with her discounts using her points, instead of speaking words to the customer she hummed her words because she had the ice cream stick in her mouth. Although I'd rather support smaller, non-franchise pet stores, this place is just around the corner from my house so I stop by quite often to pick up crickets for my frog. It often takes a while to get helped but I just recently learned it's better to go to the check stand, make the purchase and then they bring up the insects. Customer service is OK, not always great. The store is clean and well-maintained. It's like most other PETCOs.I think the prices on most items are steep (aquariums, etc.) but if you look for deals you may find it worthwhile to shop there. I think they prey on middle-aged dog owners who are willing to pay high mark ups on dog food, etc. so I am not their primary cusomter and I feel that way when I shop. read more

Today, I was 10 minutes late and I was told that I would need to reschedule. the groomer "just went to lunch because you were late." Seriously? Last time I took my dog there, I checked on my dog 2 hours after dropping her off (I had my niece's baby shower to get to.) After two hours at the Petco groomers, they had managed to only bathe her. Really? I was told the groomers could take up to 2 - 4 hours. What were they doing with my dog for 2 - 4 hours. Since it took the grooming department a friggin' 3 hours to bathe and trip her coat, I couldn't understand why I would be turned away for being 10 minutes late. Not even my doctor or dentist would treat me this way! But it's a matter of respect. When I questioned their policy, the young woman who I first spoke to got ASHLEY, the grooming manager. Let me tell you, Ashley is a little Hitler. It's her way or the highway. I have seen her treat other customers just as badly. I used the very same tone and volume that she used BUT I was told to stop shouting. Really? But since they didn't like that I was questioning their policy, she becomes rude. "Stand over there," she says, pointing across the store. Really? If customers hassle her it's because she lacks any understanding and doesn't know how to work with people. Perhaps this is the reason she works with animals!!! I have been taking my dog to this Petco for years, I tip very well, and am ALWAYS nice to my groomer, BUT it's obvious to me that PETCO on Trautwein doesn't want my business. My husband and I took our puppy to the grooming services. We asked the groomer if they could not cut or shave his hair because he's a puppy still. We did mention my dog had a bump on his side(from a vaccination) so if they could possibly just be careful. So an hour passes by and we pick up my dog. I know how long his hair is because I pet him and comb him so I knew they cut it, I was upset but I wasn't mad. I get home and I'm patting my dog down and I notice a bald spot all around his bump. I only wish I could give a 10 star rating. As I was driving to pick up an online order at a different store, I remembered my dog needed food. As she has started "Just Food for Dogs," I needed to purchase it from PETCO on Trautwein in Riverside. Since I was only going to another store to pick up an online order and not planning to go into a store, I was wearing my house shoes, and my dog did not have a leash. I now live about 9 miles from this PETCO, but because I like this particular store, I continue to make the drive. So, I thought I would "try" to pick up an order while I was in the neighborhood. I parked outside PETCO and called them. I talked to Denise. She was so so sweet. She said if I would order online, she would try to look for my order and fill it for me right away. I did order online. I called to let them know it should be coming. I talked to Sarah, who was also so so sweet. I went to grab a fast food order and during that short time, I received an email that my order was ready. I went back and called for order pickup. I talked to Denise. Within moments, Sarah brought my order out to me and I was on my way--a very happy customer!!! Of course, I would not make this a habit, but I'm so grateful that these 2 employees (Denise and Sarah) made my day and helped me outl!! They are a great team! This is a great store! I went to the Vet Office for my dog who has a skin condition. He is a big dog and we were prescribed a medicated shampoo. We had to bathe him every 3 days. They only gave us one small bottle of shampoo because that was all they had in stock.I told the vet tech that would not last long and she said it wasn't a problem , we could get another one . All we had to to was call ahead and come in. Not really. When I called they said I had to make another appointment to get another bottle! The initial pet visit plus medications was $800.00 plus dollars. Now they were basically trying to have me spend more money on a vet visit to give me shampoo that I should have received the first visit! They were not reasonable at all and did not work with me. They refused to go give me another bottle. The vets excuse was they have to see if its working! Really? Why would they prescribe something they think might not work?The vet was basically trying to make more money with another vet visit. My wife went down to the store and explained the situation to the store manager who said he had no control over the vet office but he spoke to the Vet anyway. After a long while he finally came back with the shampoo. Why did we need to jump through hoops to get this?? All they did was piss us off. We have several cats and a dog that were patients of that vet office. Not anymore. Unethical business practice. Basically holding a bottle of shampoo hostage to rack up more money in vet bill is not a good business practice. I called Petco corporate and filed a complaint. Will see what happens next. Will be doing our cat food , dog food and pet supplies elsewhere from now on. read more

However, after waisting my time driving to this location they said they couldn't cut my dogs nails because he has "back problems" and that's "policy". I started to bring my beloved Rottweiler Cara to get room with Ashley About two years ago. Not only did she do a amazing job she treated my Girl Cara like she was her very own. You can see the love that she has not only for her craft for animals as well . I will not even consider taking my girl anywhere else but with Ashley. I come to the Petco groomers just to get my dogs nails trimmed and they do a fantastic job! My dog hates when I do his nails and he gets super anxious, but when he's with them he seems way more at ease and tolerant of them touching his paws, and they always come out great. I also love how convenient they make it booking an appointment over the phone, and they always have something available in the next few days. A big thank you to all the great groomers who work here! My husband was shopping at Petco on Troutwein in woodcrest and inquired about the dog grooming. They told him to just bring the dog in no problem. I went in with our dog. It was early, so people (3) were standing by the front of the pet grooming area next to the blond woman who was sitting down. No dogs were present. the blond woman questioned me about my dog (age, health, breed etc.) I am a senior. Here is what she said next , "We will need a clean bill of health from the Vet" I said why? "Because it is a very fast paced grooming and it is very hard on dogs and sometimes they die". I almost laughed. No one was there. They were standing around. No dogs there! My dog is used to grooming he is a cute white maltese. I think she thought my dog was old or I am old or she did not want to work. My Vet is in Norco and I am pretty darn she was trying to get rid of me. Very rude. I don't think the Manager would like that. We shop there a lot. I called back explain to them that the phone hung up on me and was informed SHARPLY that Was the way that their phone system worked and then again put on hold. Used to really like this groomer, but have been pretty disappointment the last few times we have been. The last time we were there it took well over 4 hours for our dog to be groomed. When we finally got him, he was all shook up and threw up all over the car (which has never happened before) The lady was kind of rude and provided little to no explanation as to why his appointment took so long. Shocked and appalled at the customer service I received on Friday, August 24, 2018. I brought a dog crate (in its original packaging) into the store for return from an internet purchase. As the employee, Michael, tried to return it, he found he needed assistance. He called for assistance and a woman named Celes came out of the office. She was so unbelievably rude, I almost thought it was a hoax or tv show. I thought the receipt was attached to the box, but apparently the receipt came via email according to Celes. She chastised me over and over and over for not having the email receipt. She talked down to me, lectured me, flipped her long gray hair, rolled her eyes and initially acted as if there was nothing she was going to do to assist me in returning it. Finally, clearly in disgust of me, the customer, who searched her email and didn't have a receipt from Petco, she said she would have to call to see if she could get assistance for the return; I don't know where, corporate? While on the phone, her phone buzzed and she looked at it and then looked at the young employee, Michael, and snapped viciously at him, "tell them I'm on the phone. Go. Now. And then get back here." She used a manner that is clearly not leadership, nor employee mentoring; better described as angry grandmother who has to watch her grandchildren. She received the information she needed on the telephone, but continued to be unable to figure out how much sales tax I paid for the product when purchased online. After her inability to figure this out, she simply decided she wasn't going to return any amount of sales tax to me at all. She decided she would only return the product sales price. And I believe she was proud of herself for this decision to not completely refund the price I paid as a consequence to my not having my email receipt. After the transaction was completed, which I dutifully smiled through, she sharply snapped at (poor) employee Michael, "Take it. We're going to have to clearance that." Since reading these Yelp reviews contained here, it's clear that is how Petco, specifically this Petco, handles business and how they represent themselves to the community. This style is against everything I believe in and I will not ever purchase online, or in a Petco store again. And they immediately refused service to us because they don't Wash any dogs that are "Aggressive". They also said they won't Wash him unless we have proof of all His vaccinations. I took my Jack Russel Terrier to be groomed on Dec 31, 2015. I called today to have her groomed again but they said that her rabies shot record needed to be up dated and current because it expired. I looked up her record and it expires Feb 2017. I received great service the first time and good phone service this time but Petco gets zero stars for this hassle. I was going here for convenience now I will drive down the street an extra block so I don't have to worry about an expired rabies record that is current. read more

This location is the worst. Last year some time we had major issues with them claiming to do work on our dog and our vet confirming it was not done. Anyhow...with covid and the vets being needed for emergencies decided to try these guys again for nail trimming and a bath. Clearly the chick remembered me from her mistakes in the past and decided to have some fun with my morning. I come in around 10:15 and she looks up my account and schedules my dog for 11 am later in the morning. No questions asked. I come back and wait about 10 minutes for her to finish a dog she's working on. She calls me in and starts signing us in again. She asks if my dog has any medical conditions I know about. This right here is why people lie. I tell her some quack of vet 10 years ago told us she had a heart issue. We left them for a second opinion and our current vet now never found issues with her heart and I actually reported the vet. This location of petco has seen this same dog AT LEAST a half dozen times since that happened 10 years ago. Now all of a sudden I'll need a note from her vet to clear her of a heart condition she never had. ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS. All done just to mess with my day. Jokes on her...they've already been trimmed elsewhere in 20 minutes from a friend groomer. So! She just lost your company a $50 sale and a customer for life! peace Btw, your "salon manager" who I am talking about...also was bad mouthing managers above her in front of me to an employee pissed she didn't get to interview a new person starting. In general, I prefer to support independent pet stores because they are often more responsible caretakers for their animals. However, Riverside does not have any acceptable independent shop anymore (Coral Reef closed up). Although the selection of tropical fish here is pitiful, the fish they carry are healthy and kept under humane conditions. The young man I spoke with in the fish department was very knowledgeable about the fish and aquatic plants sold in the store. Petco.com has become my favorite site for pet supplies, and on the few occasions when I had a problem with a product I was able to bring it in to the local store for refund, saving the hassle of return shipping. I made an appointment online for a pet grooming. I received a phone call the Sunday prior that I needed to bring my rabies vaccination record (his shot had expired since his last grooming). I show up at the appointed time with my dog and rabies vaccination record only to be told they could not accept it because it was not type written (it was a three part form filled out by hand and signed by a veterinarian along with his license number). The rabies record was from a reputable dog adoption and vaccination clinic in our community. My dog had current licensing which you cant get with an expired rabies vaccination. I asked to speak to a store manager only to be told he was "on break". Unhappy customer and you cant make the time to explain your policy, apologize, anything??? An assistant manager came, but she had a cell phone up to her ear because she was on hold on a call. I called Petco corporate offices when I got home to get an explanation of their policy. They were happy to take my name and number and call me back in 24-48 hours. Wow! If you look up poor customer service in the dictionary there will be a picture of a Petco store. Not sure how groomers are paid, but mine is spending the next hour twiddling her thumbs, not receiving a tip and my dog still needs a grooming. Guess Petsmart gets a try, read more

Our family has had such a wonderful learning experience with the most kind and patient "teacher" Larnell, the knower of all fish things! (Well that's how we refer to him anyway). We've gone from a 2.5 gallon tank to a 55 gallon tank in less than a month - only having the confidence to do so because of Larnell. We've been treated with respect and kindness not to mention utmost professionalism every time we've visited this location, some times twice a week to check water quality. Every question has been answered and answered correctly! A very important factor when building an aquarium such as ours. Although Larnell was not directly involved with the adoption of our new cat (same location) if it weren't for his awesome attitude and enthusiasm for his job- we would most likely had found another fish source and would never have met our cat (adoption weekend).
