I would not recommend this company. I hired this company with one goal in mind and the person that came out (I think he was the owner) had convinced me that he could do what I asked of him for my dog Bogey. At the time I hired this company for training, Bogey was 16 months old. I'm not expecting Bogey to be Lassie or anything close, and I'm not blaming the trainer or any of his employees for Bogey's behavior.  A little bit of background on Bogey. He was traumatized by someone when he was 6 months old while at a doggie day care.  Bogey and my son-in-law, who my dog used to get along great with, changed after the incident at the day care. My daughter and son-in-law were there to watch the presentation for the training company. The trainer saw Bogey's reaction to my son-in-law, obvious signs of fear and apprehension, and convinced us he could change Bogey's behavior. My daughter and I signed up with this company, feeling assured the trainer could change this behavior in Bogey. It was a $2700 investment combined. Due to Bogey's reaction to my son-in-law, my main concern was to get help in changing this behavior and stressed this concern with the trainer. Unfortunately the sessions seem to only focus on sitting, staying and placing. Honestly, I became frustrated with them only "training" me on how to teach Bogey how to sit, stay etc and NEVER addressing the reason I hired them. This is what caused me to quit going to there "group lessons". I felt it was truly a waste of my time and apparently not a concern of their's either, having paid $2700 for a lifetime of training. In addition, no effort has been made on their part to reach out to me to find out why I quit going. Now that I am living with my daughter and her family,  Bogey is traumatized throughout the day. When he sees my son-in-law, who works from home, he will hide behind furniture and won't socialize with other family members. This behavior only happens around my son-in-law. Bogey is so fearful he will urinate in the house and has even done so on my granddaughter.  I can't afford to hire another trainer now and am questioning if this company lacks concern for their clients or possibly it's a lack of knowledge on how to properly train a dog with behavioral issues. This has put me in a difficult situation and I now have to decide whether to let this trauma continue daily, not what I want, or find a new home for Bogey, which I also do not want. That's no life for any family member. So if you're looking for someone to teach you how to say "sit", "stay" or "place", this may be the company I would recommend but I feel that they may be limited in their training skills. If you're looking for a company that will follow up with you, you might want to keep looking for someone that cares about results and accomplishments. There were many other things that showed lack of attention on their part but the one thing I was hoping for never was addressed even when I brought it up. They either lack the skill to train out behavior issues or they simply don't care. If you look at their own post on Facebook, their only focused is on sit, stay and come. No mention of training out negative behaviors. No success stories about other training issues. read more

I have to say that Leave the Leash has made a huge difference in my rescue dog. She is well behaved at dog friendly restaurants and a fun dog to hike with. She listened off leash at Huntington Dog Beach and had a blast. She use to walk well on a leash for a while and then flip out and run from side to side. She provided a lot of entertainment to people walking by and I would get frustrated trying to stop her. She has been training since April 14th and I have to say, yesterday it may have saved her life. There was a loose pit bull that had just killed a cat and bit a man and we had a 4-7 minute encounter with the dog. Several times it approached and Gidget sat calmly at my side. I was blowing a whistle and Gidget still stayed calmly at my side. She did start to bark and I used the quiet command and she obeyed. The encounter ended with Gidget on a step and me in front of her and the pit bull sat down 1 foot away from us. The man who's cat was killed and already bit came over and grabbed the pit and put it in his yard with the other pit it was loose with. While she still has her personality and her own desires, she does a great job listening and allowing us to show her how to have a good time without having to fight her. After hearing good things about them, I scraped enough to hire them in May. Between May and July we had booked 6 appointments and went once to the park. Of those 6 appointments, 2 were no shows, no calls, nothing. One is forgivable, things happen, but 2x in 2 months is not good. Especially when I had to leave early from a paid party I was at, I was furious. All I get is we're not sure why it happened, A scheduling error, etc. Not professional. Those 4 house calls were expensive as I did not get a full refund. Using a shock collar on my dog also caused her an issue where she went running scared from me shaking running from room to room. I would never do that again. I know there must be better ways of training a dog, such as a reward system, not punishment or "correction" as they called it. My dog just needed to learn how to walk on a leash without pulling. She has no other bad behaviors. She's a well behaved dog. read more

He would not listen, kept jumping and nipping at us, and he was running the house. I've had dogs before and didn't find the need for training. We found Leave The Leash and met Kris for a consult. He brought one of his working dogs and we felt that if we could get a quarter out of our pup as he had with his it would be a miracle. We signed up for the 12 sessions and the lifetime group classes. Immediately our pup was behaving and we learned how to properly communicate with the pup. When he progressed into the group classes, we both learned how to fine tune the training he received. In the group classes, which we have found so much value as it is a large group of dog people that help each other and give each other counsel and amazing advice. We support each other and have other veteran owners give me constructive feedback when we first started. It's amazing to see the progress in the other dogs that come too. The trainers are just amazing with the dogs; they absolutely care. You will always receive feedback and guidance from them as you progress. You can see the bond the trainers have with the dogs with the non stop wagging tails when the trainers come around to the dogs. There is no dog too big or too small. One of the trainers even trained alligators before this job! The trainers are well versed beyond the simple commands and have been able to give us guidance on potty training, socialization, and even tricks. We LOVE Leave the Leash! All the employees care about your dog and know exactly what will help to make your dog a better listener. My puppy, Dixie was a maniac and would pull me while we went on walks. But with the gentle and thoughtful training from Leave the Leash trainers, we both enjoy our walks now. I opted for the training package of having trainers come to our house and it was the best experience. They would take Dixie around the neighborhood and to dog friendly stores to help her get use to being in public places. Dixie use to be so anxious around other dogs and people but now when we are in public she stays by my side and waits for me to have her approach someone. Our Golden-doodles are amazing dogs but definitely needed some training. We are so thankful for Leave the Leash. Our four year old golden retriever has been in training classes with other companies since he was a puppy. While they helped with some basic obedience skills, they were never able to help with his leash pulling or recall with distractions.
