I come here all the time to get my bunny Timothy hay since they have such a wide selection. I decided to get my bunny some of the Bunny Banquet pellet mix that I didn't know has Corn. It might be the Kaytee brand but you're able to pour it yourself into plastic bags. Feeding your rabbits corn can cause serious digestive problems in your rabbit. Just to let you guys know! It also has peanuts that have no nutritional value it's more of just a filler. I also just noticed there are bugs in the bag that Im pretty sure didn't come from my house.. i just threw the bag away. Went in to find a fantail gold fish to add to my tank. To my disappointment, all their fancy goldfish tanks had multiple fish with fin-rot in them. This means the entire tanks are now infected until they remove all the fish, treat them with anti-bacterial and sanitize their tanks. The orandas, Black moors, fantails, all had finrot. I recommend not to purchase your fish here because the poor animals aren't well maintained and lack care as evidenced by the poor condition the fish are in. It's pretty irresponsible for them to continue to sell fish like that, it's plain as day how bad the fin rot is. An unsuspecting customer might come in, buy one of their fish and then take it home and infect their entire tank and then have the fish die. read more

I have been Lilly's adoring human companion for the entire 5 years I have had that little 11 lb., rescued Chihuahua/Beagle (who in reality lovingly rescued me). But when it comes to feeding her, short of hiring a personal puppy chef to cook delectable doggie dinners for my Lilly, I have constantly been in a dilemma over what she likes to eat. Having tried (both singly and in multiple combinations) countless kibbles, as well as frozen, dehydrated, and canned foods that were supposedly top rated, quite expensive, and sure-as-shootin' wonderful, none were given a thumbs up (or would that be paws up) from that little canine princess. Suppertime was beyond depressing. Have you ever seen a dog refuse to eat? Those downcast big browns, the dramatically slumped shoulders, the reluctant walk, even downright refusal to budge from her doggie bed? You would think I was punishing her. I was advised, "Give her time...when she is hungry enough, she will eat." Well, she wouldn't eat for days on end. It broke my heart and so in desperation, I'd finally give in. I discovered her appetite was simple...if *I* ate it, i.e. people food, then it was clearly fine for her. And we all know how horrible "people" food is for people, let alone for doggies. She loved bacon, peanut butter toast, steak bones, and lots of special doggie treats (yeah...well, I didn't eat those myself). Her plump little tushie wadded as she walk, but it was mostly that lethargic, extraordinarily unenthusiastic demeanor at dinner time if I dared to try to pass some that "DOG" food off on her. My poor little Snoopy wannabe had no bounce, was malnourished but overfed. It was during a Lilly pup shopping trip at Elliott's that I was advised by an employee to try Evanger's brand. I have never seen that brand anywhere else, it came in a large sized can, and had a suspiciously low price ($1.39 per can). Clearly this can't be good, it's too cheap and it's way too big a can! I bought 3 cans of different flavors and tested her on it. Hmmm! It smelled and looked really good, even to me. Her usual reticence quickly turned to greed, within minutes the bowl was licked so clean it looked like the dish was masterfully washed. Must be a fluke. But no, she has been relishing it ever since, no matter the flavor. That was perhaps 10 weeks ago, and there has been no let up to her enthusiasm. I now prepare her dinner using a scoop of the Evanger's combined with one crumbled Stella and Chewy's brand dehydrated biscuit (this is also good stuff and adds fruits and vegetables to her meal), and even though she has become voracious eater, she is now a noticeably trimmer and more energetic little dog. Lilly has been an Elliott's customer for a very long time. They have patiently allowed me to return foods that have been opened and rejected by my pup. I really would like to like this store, ive visited a few times over the past year. I go to this store for their aquatics. The fish rack has a wide variety but the tanks are always full of ich. Always deed bodies, which i understand.. it happens, fish die. but some of the dead ones look as though theyve been there for a decent amoumnt of time. Theres always dozens of snails but most are empty shells and the others are freshly dead. why pull out a snail, confirm its dead, then put it back into the tank? Theres enough employees running around, one person cant pull the deads? A good majority of the products they sell are quite expensive compared to alternatives like petco petsmart amazon etc, which is expected for a small business, Theyre trying to make their profit too. They have a wide selection of cat/dog items.. food, toys, beds, etc. A decent selection of reptiles and feeder rodents. I just cant get past the health of the fish. Ill revisit again in a few months and see if theres any improvement. read more

My wife and I have been coming here for years and it always seems to be a wonderful experience. Today Ceasar was helping us out in the aquarium with all the fish he answered every question of ours and was very informative and knew what he was talking about. He even let us get pictures and show him the type of parasites we are dealing with and showed us suggestions of what to do and which ones weren't harmful compared to which ones were harmful. Elliot's has gone downhill we've been coming here since we first lived here 13 yrs ago. We still drive 50 from Los Angeles to get our pets supplies here when we can. We asked 3 different guys to help us with our daughters pet rats. & all they could do was shrug & be like "well their life expectancy is 3 years & they're already pushing 2." I mean have some compassion! Maybe you sell rats as food everyday & you struggle to see them as a little girl's pet but you work in a PET store. People come to you about their pets not you opinion on what you consider a pet. My vet friend told us that the rat's issue is respiratory & that pet stores sell supplements or otc meds for it. All three gentlemen had the same attitude of, "why bother" didn't even show me anything that would help. We are dumbfounded quite frankly. We buy our pets here. The rats were from here. When I bought them one of them had the issue & the gentleman who sold it to me gave me drops for her & educated me on how most rats kinda come with the sniffles. Oh & for the record I didn't appreciate the complimentary hand sanitizer getting pulled away from me as I was using it. read more

The staff has never been less than friendly and helpful. They'll lead you around the store and help you pick out necessities if you have a new kitten, dog or reptile. There's plenty of food and supplies for nearly any pet you can think of, and they even have a good assortment of reptiles for purchase if you're interested. I like to come here to get feeder mice/rats for my snake, and get crickets for my bearded dragon. I believe the crickets are roughly 20/$1.00 which I think is an absolute steal. The staff helped me pick out a cricket keeper when they saw how many crickets I was going through, and the proper food to keep them alive and healthy enough to be feeder insects. The prices throughout the store are very reasonable and realistic. My favorite part of Elliot's though, is their huge rabbit that loves butt scratches! read more

They also have such a big inventory of everything!!!! Today I bought a new aquarium plant for my betta as well as live mini meal worms to feed her as a treat. I also wanted to get her some friends (she does well with others) but they didn't have exactly the fish I was looking for. The dude said to not worry that they actually get a shipment in today! He said to call back at 2p. While I was there I also picked up filters for my tank, and dog bones for my girls & boy. the workers are always super knowledgeable as well. I've been shopping here for many years. But I'm done. They treat the feeder animals like garbage. I understand that these are animals that are usually purchased to be fed to snakes but that doesn't mean they can't be treated with some amount of dignity and respect while they're under the care of the store. I went there yesterday and I saw an employee picking up large rats by the tail and placing them in a cardboard box. One of the rats started panicking and flailing around and the employee that was holding the rat starts to sort of spin it around in mid air and is laughing about it. He starts yelling to the other employees to "check out this rat, it's totally freaking out, bro" or something like that. Instead of just putting the poor, panicking, rat back into the tank he laughs at it and plays with it and shows it to other employees. Abhorrent behavior from someone who works with animals. For the area I consider this to be a good pet store. To be honest, i used to think it was an amazing pet store, until i was up in San Jose and went to an actual amazing pet store. I'm not knocking the staff or cleanliness. It is just a certain something that is hard to describe. I still shop because it is the best in the area. I wish they had a big selection of freeze dried dog food. The staff, in general knows what they have and are pretty friendly. They keep the store visually clean. For having live animals inside it never smells either. I've been going to Elliotts for dog food, dog treats, dog harnesses, and turtle food for the last 3 months now, since I moved back to Riverside. I really like the layout of this pet shop. I used to go to Petco and Petsmart, but I really enjoy supporting small business and do not mind if items are a little bit more expensive than the big guys because their service is outstanding. It isn't a huge space, but they seem to fit plenty of supplies for a multitude of animals in. For one of the harnesses I purchased, I wasn't sure on the size and when I got home it was too small. I exchanged the harness for the correct size, next day, with no problems, so GREAT exchange policy, even if you removed the tags. There always seems to be younger kids, college or high school aged, working there and although not all of them are super extroverted, you can tell that they are all working together to bring customers and their pets a good experience. I want to highlight one particular employee who was helped me every time I go there and that is Roger. He is very passionate and it shows!
