Such a great meal! We got the kale ceaser salad which was loaded with parm cheese, the arancini which is something new I'm loving and theirs was so delicious, the diavolo pizza and the ragu with these long wavy noodles. Highly recommend going here read more

Solid spot for wood-fired pizza, but falls a bit short of the top-tier hype. Came in on a Monday night and was immediately impressed by the energy. The service and atmosphere were top-notch throughout the evening...lively, attentive, and great vibes for early in the week. Overall, it was a very good meal, though I wouldn't quite place it alongside Canada's top-tier, "Top 100" dining experiences. the food: Diavolo 2.0 Pizza: Absolute star of the show. Perfect leopard-spotted, wood-fired crust with just the right amount of heat from the pepperoncini and salami. If you're here, this is what you should get. Mafalda al Ragù: A major miss, unfortunately. I found it lacking balance and flavor, to the point where I didn't end up finishing it. Cannoli: A classic, well-executed finish to the meal. Light, crispy shell with smooth goat's milk ricotta and pistachio. Quite good. Elena is a fun, vibrant spot if you're looking for a great night out with impressive wood-fired pizza, but the kitchen consistency across the board didn't quite match its status as a top-ranked national destination. Worth a visit for the pizza and atmosphere alone! read more

We ordered door dash delivery from here last night: a cheese pizza, a green salad and a pasta with meat sauce - total cost $100. When we received it, the pizza was completely burnt and dried out - truly inedible. The green salad was gritty as if the leaves had not been washed so also did not eat it for fear of E Coli. We called the restaurant to complain and offered to send photos. They said they would speak to the manager and call back. Never heard back. I have never written a negative review before but this was the worse meal and response I have ever had with 2/3 going in the trash immediately. read more

We have mixed opinions on Elena after trying it last night. The appetizers were terrific I highly recommend the Arancini and Meatballs. However the pizza was disappointing. A hidden gem, this is a fun spot for a date night, group gathering or casual meal. We tried the kale salad, Mafalda Au Ragú, Diavolo, and seasonal corn pasta. Along with wine and mocktail - fin soda. The Ragú was phenomenal!!! I want to fly back just to get this again: the Diavolo was well balanced savory and spice. The kale salad had me coming back for more and honestly the portion was large enough that the four of us could've split one. The corn pasta was the one miss for me. The pasta was chewy and seemed like it needed to cook 30 seconds more. The suggested wine paring was spot on. Lastly the fin soda mocktails was spot on. Throughout the evening service was great and we were well taken care of. Will certainly be back next time we're in Montreal! read more

Cozy, bougie wine and pizza bar that is on All The Lists and for good reason. Jeez. We had a Resy for 10 but they called and bumped us up to 930 when someone canceled which was A+ customer service to start. I love wine though I don't know enough about it to understand a deep wine menu written in the languages of origin lol. No amount of google translate was helping. The women next to us had a fizzy red but I couldn't get that by the glass so I settled for "something close to a Pinot." Wine was good but truth be told my husbands double IPA was superior. I'm a fan of starting with a salad and splitting it at a pizza spot and the kale caesar is legendary here. It was probably one of the best things I've eaten - so much so we took the leftovers back to the hotel and enjoyed it as a bed snack. That's absurd but here we are. Read on for a rundown: Kale caesar - if you don't get this you're a traitor of all sorts Pizza - husband went margherita and I did the Funguy. Let me tell you about the mushroom pizza. LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT THE MUSHROOM PIZZA. The topping on its own was out of this world. The creamy base of the pizza tasted like the richest most savory Alfredo on planet earth. I'm only 43 and feel confident saying this is one of the top 3 pizzas I will ever eat in my life. Seating - they have chairs, benches, and banquettes. I took the bench side and felt great all night. If you read my other reviews you will see that we've adopted Montreal as our second city. I will always come here when in town no matter what. read more

Pros: Tons of wine, alcohol options Beautifully decorated dining area - loved the velour seating The mushroom pizza was incredible - so much flavor and mushrooms for days Enjoyed the kale salad - plenty to share; the portion was huge Finished with the peach gelato - so light and refreshing Cons: We had an early reservation, so not many in the restaurant, but it still took a long time to get our food When it gets crowded, it gets so much worse. You will be ignored so speak up. Pro tip: Be sure to make a reservation ahead of time and go early if you can. read more

While visiting Montreal, we were craving pizza SO BAD. Where can you get the best pizza in the area? ELENA! Let me tell you...Yelp once again did NOT disappoint. I had this place bookmarked in one of the top places I wanted to visit while in the area. What really drew me here, oddly enough, was the graphics! Why? Because they took their time to design every single thing, from their logo to their cute and popular totes. Everything here has a purpose and is so contemporary! Of course, the food itself was something to leave you drooling, esp staring at all the pizza pics! Came here on a popular and busy Friday night thinking we could just walk in without reservations and just sit anywhere. Weeeeeell...we were very wrong but Elena's staff was just SO kind to give us a little secret and hidden gem option instead: "bar" area accessible only through the back area. We knew we wanted a slice of Elena and it didn't matter where we sat. So we went for that option and it was the best decision ever. There was outside seating with heaters but we decided to go inside and sit on the "U" shaped bar instead. Our server and bar tender was AMAZING and one of the best humans we met during our trip. I hate that we can't remember his name but he's an artist and into bicycles. Well, basically, we had the best time ever! Not only did we have a little intimate and cozy space just for the two of us, we got to have easy and chill convos with him. He recommended some of the menu items and what to drink. Our pizza was AMAZING, we ordered the Margherita with mozzarella di bufala. What we didn't know would be sooooo good we're the suppli al telefono (supplì di riso). So stinking GOOD. We kept the night chill with a local Canadian IPA that went so well with our pizza and just enjoyed our dinner. We don't always get dessert since we end up so full all the time but this time we had to leave space for it. You had me at cannoli....goat cheese cannoli.....with PISTACCHIO. This right here is what took my heart and Elena kept. To make it even more phenomenal our server/bartender overheard us talk about our anniversary and made this dessert extra special. We will never forget this small but grand gesture. We ended our dinner with coffee and amaro and just really had the most epic experience by eating at the bar. Zero rush, zero stress, super intimate and 10/10 would recommend! Thank you Elena for doing what you do, we can't wait to be back in the area. Epic people, cool spot and AMAZING eats! read more

Everything we ate was good! Nice atmosphere. Great service. Sat outside. Yummmmmmmmmmmmmm

We were warmly welcomed by the staff at Elena despite not having a reservation, and the experience only improved from there. Our party of three shared two pizzas and two appetizers, and everything was excellent. The standout was the supplì--something many places outside of Rome miss the mark on, but Elena absolutely nailed. read more

Phenomenal. Coming from NYC our expectations for Italian is high. A great restaurant takes simple food and elevates it with thought, distinct touches and the best ingredients. Another great add to the Mtl food scene. It's got a bit of a destination/scene vibe, ppl wining about service and wait times maybe don't get out much. read more

Our group of 4 went for dinner here this evening, we each got a different pizza (Margherita, Funguy, Amatriciana, Diavolo 2.0) and we were all very happy with the choices. Great Italian style pizza. I'm not sure how this place only has 53 reviews. I guess it goes to show how Montreal is just abundant in great restaurants. We discovered this place through several online articles of restaurants to visit in this city. The entrance is not obvious and we almost missed it after getting dropped off in our Uber. There is a little mosaic square on the corner of the brick building and hidden within the design is their name. Upon entering you'll notice right away that this place is just so damn cute. The servers were friendly and we were brought to our seats in the main dining area. For starters we ordered the sourdough, concombre and kale ceasar. The bread was delish, nothing short of your typical good sourdough. The olive oil paired with it was also nice and fruity. The concombre was recommended and I can see why. The cucumber chunks were nicely sized, drizzled in chili oil (?), topped with strings of creamy stracciatella and fresh dill. SO good. The kale caesar was pretty good as well, but definitely made for a heavy palette (it had a lotttt of dressing and cheese.) For our main we had the diavolo pizza. Also so so good. Nice big pockets and char on the crust. Light, soft dough with a delicate chew. The tomato sauce was oh so right and tangy. Great pairing with the heavier meats that it was topped with. I would reccommend this place to all my friends that are visiting Montreal! read more

Great set menu for large group. Nice selection of private import wines. But steer clear of the goat cheese cannoli...not a winner :-)

I visited Elena during my recent visit to Montreal. I arrived on late Sunday evening and choice of good restaurant was very limited. I am so glad that Elena was one of few restaurants opens late on Sunday. We arrived around 8:45pm and the dining hall was full. However, we were able to sit at the bar table immediately. The bar seating was very comfortable. The service was very friendly and prompt. We were greeted by friendly manager and the people serving us were very friendly too. They explained the menu clearly and answered our questions patiently. We order Diavolo pizza and Tagliatelle. Food came fairly fast. Diavolo is made with organic flour and very soft. It has a slight aroma from the flour. My dining partner who doesn't prefer eating pizza praised about this pizza many times. The in-house made pepperoni was not overly salty like other places. Must try to eat the pizza with house made spicy oil. Tagliatelle was my favourite. The pasta was so thin and bouncy with eggy taste. The Ragu sauce was so flavourful yet didn't over power the pasta taste. It was very impressive and I think it is the best tagliatelle I had so far. We also tried the special dessert - Roman Holiday - 3 scoops of strawberry sobert with fresh fruit and wafer. The sobert was refreshing and the whole dessert was nicely made yet it was pretty pricy for it. read more

Loved this place. One of my favorite places I've been to in Montreal. I will definitely be back for the Mafalda al Ragu.

2 stars only because of major service issues! Excellent food and ambiance with a fun, energetic vibe. Appetizers were fantastic - especially the cauliflower and the meatballs. Pizzas and pasta were all also amazing. The service started off great with a super friendly server. However, it dropped off over the course of the meal pretty noticeably. EX, our waitress never asked if I'd like another glass of wine (seems odd) and then she disappeared by the time the meal ended. Our plates were cleared, no one ever asked if we'd like dessert and after waiting a while, we had to flag down another server to ask for our bill, realizing that we probably weren't going to get dessert. He kindly went to our server who appeared to be behind the bar at that point, and mentioned to her that we requested the bill. Still no bill and no acknowledgement that we'd requested our bill. It turns out that our server was in the midst of selling a bunch of bottles of wine to two people at the bar (maybe friends of hers?) and was more interested in helping them, than us. I finally got up from the table and asked her directly for the bill (by this point she was standing right behind our table at the host station) - no apology, no acknowledgement that her co-worker mentioned to her that we had requested the bill. She really didn't seem in the least bit concerned, which quite frankly, is pretty lousy service at the most basic level and just plain rude. Perhaps she was more concerned about making a big wine sale at the bar than taking care of a table in her section. It's the basic things that count when it comes to service - sadly, Elena failed on that front which spoiled what otherwise was a great food experience. read more

Really love this place. Pizzas are amazing, the kale salad is my fave. Wine selection very interesting.

The St-henri neighbourhood of Montreal is filled with a variety of restaurants and cafés that defintiely warrant a visit to the south-Ouest. A fresh new contemporary, Italian spot in Place St-Henri. The thin crust mushroom pizza is to die for and the Kale ceasar is also equally good! You are bound to miss this spot as it is very nondescript on the outside. The decor inside is beautiful pulling some mid century flair into this very unassuming spot. It's not overly pretentious that can be common of many newer restaurants. The service is friendly and efficient. Elena ranges on the more affordable side and you won't break the bank eating dinner here. The only reason I'm docking a star is because we were three people crammed in at a two person table. There were plenty of other tables available around us. I'd had made this reservation a month in advance so a little disappointed. This place gets pretty busy so make sure to make a reservation. I would highly recommend nonetheless, it's a perfect place for family, friends, and loved ones. read more

Elena - its not a stodgy boring Italian. This is a hip cutting edge Italian. On the plus side - coming here with a large group - you get to try lots of things, on the minus side - you probably want to order at least 2 of everything. Another notable thing here is cocktails - they're pretty good - and you'll need 'em to handle the music volume - part of the whole "not stodgy" branding. Another thing that was next level is their dessert. Also ask about the grappa - they have a curated collection that wont disappoint. Dont miss. read more

This place was quite busy on a fri at ten pm. We got the gnocco fritto to start based on the barmaid's recommendation. It's basically three pieces of warm, fried dough with toppings on the side. The dough was like an unsweetened donut but in the shape of an eggroll. It's empty inside. Next to it was a meat that was similar to a thick salami and then another meat similar to prosciutto, and then marinated eggplant. It was very good. You can put all the stuff inside the dough. Then we had the diavolo pizza. It was a bit long for them to make it but it was worth the wait. The barmaid recommended the mushroom pizza and the margarita pizza but we wanted something with meat on it. The diavolo pizza has pepperoni, tomatoes, chili peppers, and mozzarella di bufala. I added spicy oil to make it even spicier. I paired it with a montepulciano d'abruzzo red wine. It was super dry but once it was aerated it was so good! Mmm i will definitely be going back! I like the vibe and the decorations. There's a white brick wall and a marble looking bar. It was very zen. ***review update *** My friends and I went on Saturday night. We ordered the diavola again because we liked it so much last time. I ordered the Jimmy Conway. It was good but I still preferred the diavola. The jimmy Conway had salsiccia, rapini and provolone. My friend had the fun guy pizza and I tried a slice. It was bland and I do not recommend it. Another friend ordered tagliatelle and he loved it. The only negative thing he had to say is that the portion was too small but he has a slice of pizza and was fine after. We all ordered coffee to stay awake because we were so tired and I totally regretted it because it was the worst coffee I've ever had. It was fruity and acidic. It was too weird for me. The Americano and espresso tasted the same. Some of us ordered the ice cream - hazelnut, pistachio and lemon. The pistachio was so good! Another friend had the canolli and he didn't like the filling because he found it tasted fruity. This is a dimly lit, loud resto good for a night out with friends or even for a date. Basically come here for the pizza and pasta. The salads looked good and the portions were huge but I didn't want to order salad on a Saturday night lol. If you really want dessert get the pistachio ice cream and do NOT get coffee! read more

Not plant-based friendly at all, overall underwhelming experience. To start off, we had booked through an app, and received confirmation of our reservatio. However when we got there they made a big fuss about us not having a reservation (although we had done it) when a table was free and could accommodate our party. The wine selection is all "natural" wines, I am by no means a wine expert but all the wines tasted very vinegary and they were fermented, so slightly sparkling, it was like a super vinegary kombucha. So if you're into that you will like their wine selection, if not, you will be dissapointed like most our table was. I asked for a sparkling water twice and never got it. Appetizers were not plant based friendly, but I ordered for the green salad and asked them to hold the cheese, it was delicious : lettuce, fennel and radicchio. I ordered for the margarita pizza without mozzarella, and asked if they could replace the cheese by arugula or spinach, they said they cannot add anything on it. We asked for the mozzarella on the side so another dinner could enjoy it, they said they can't put it on the side. Not accommodating at all, I basically overpaid for bread with burnt basil leaves and tomato sauce that tasted like tomato paste out of a can. I've been to many great pizzerias, they are always very kind and accommodating and happily replace the cheese with greens. Regarding the dinners who are not plant-based, they were disappointed by the portion of the pasta dishes and underwhelmed by the pizza. Desserts were tasty, the blueberry dessert was amazing too bad the ice cream it's served with is bland. The coffee was very good. I find that $50 is overpriced for the quality of what is served. I wouldn't come back or recommend Elena. read more

***EAT HERE*** If you haven't eaten at Elena GO NOW! Stop looking for a place to eat! Get off of Yelp and go to Elena!!! My husband and I came in on a Thursday night without a reservation and were shocked to see this place packed! Luckily there were two seats at the kitchen bar area available. We were greeted by a cheerful hostess and every employee we came in contact with was super amazing. The menu was in French and my French is not super good so our waiter explained EVERY SINGLE ITEM on the menu to us! We chose the pasta special which was smoked squash in a brown butter sauce with fried sage. WOW!! The smoked squash flavor resembled a smoked meat. The brown butter sauce was so light and the sage was the perfect topper! Our waiter suggested a perfect red wine to go with our dinner which was so tasty. We also ordered the M. Fun-guy pizza which had champignons, céleri-rave, taleggio! Mushrooms upon mushrooms upon tasty mushrooms of all kinds. The dough is specifically milled for Elena and will blow your mind. The best pizza I have ever had. Sitting at the kitchen bar allows you to watch the kitchen work. The kitchen works like a perfect dance. For dessert we had the Affogato which is an apple donut. OMG!! It literally is half of an apple dipped in donut dough batter and fried. They top it with caramel and a HOMEMADE RUM RAISIN ice cream, a dash of salt and brown sugar crumble. HOLY COW!!! AMAZING!!!! The place feels like a bubbly, dinner party. The employees are happy and dancing and treat you like you are their only customer. Did I say EAT HERE yet? IN LOVE!!! This is some good pizza. I got the classic margherita and it was delicious. The only thing that I think can be better again is the dough, it being a bit more airy (this is just me being whiny and nit-picking). But everything else was great, especially the sauce to cheese to dough ratio. The service is quick and good. And the decor is very nice too, very minimalist chic (this is me trying to talk like I know shit). Would recommend this place for sure. read more
