Sister had 2 perfectly fried eggs on a bed of ricotta sprinkled with chili, garlicky rapini over great freshly made focaccia. She absolutely loved it. The lattés were 100% on point. The servers were so friendly and seemed to be all smiles which made it all the better. The spicy margarita was just what I needed after a leisurely bike ride through the park, and the simple arugula, salad and beef Ragu were absolutely scrumptious! Group of 4 of us came here for brunch and it was delicious! Service was a little slow but I think they were short staffed. Highly recommend any of their homemade focaccia breads as well as all their pastas. Homemade seasonal jam also was great! read more

Lovely new addition to St-Henri for wine lovers, pasta lovers, focaccia lovers and basically all Italian food related lovers. Cool boho vibes and friendly staff. I had their famous vegetarian focaccia sandwich. It was absolutely delicious to the last bite. Extremely generous with a variety of grilled mushrooms, eggplant and cheese and other toppings wrapped in their in-house baked focaccia. Leaving my belly very satisfied. Definitely pass by and check them out! There's something for everyone and they are planning on having a terrace once the weather gets better so stay tuned ;-) read more

As you may be well aware, some of Montreal's best restaurants can be found on rue Notre Dame O. Now, one more can be added to the list: Bar Bara is the new kid on the block, but clearly no stranger to making great food. My boyfriend and I happened to walk by the night after they opened and decided to give them a try for dinner that night. We picked up the Focaccia of the day, Cacio e Pepe linguini and shell pasta with a lamb ragu as well as 2 corn muffins that looked lonely sitting on the pedestal on their own. The focaccia was INCREDIBLE and the pastas were delicious - I can only imagine they would be that much better served fresh. But what was truly surprising were the corn muffins that we had the next day for breakfast - a unique texture, not too sweet and with the addition of hazelnuts and raspberry jam in the centre added just the right amount of tartness and crunch. We enjoyed it so much that we returned the following night just to load up on more pastries! We wound up getting another corn muffin as well as what can only be described as a peach danish and - the greatest discovery of them all - a puff pastry filled with caramel. Again, not too sweet and, when reheated in the microwave for 15 seconds, made the caramel inside melt... too good. If they're this good with takeout, I can't wait to try them when they're open for dining. read more

An Easter brunch delivery from BarBara, an Italian restaurant located in the St. Henri neighborhood, in Montreal, Quebec. Everything came in neatly pre-packaged boxes. Properly separated and tagged, and with the menu and all the preparation instructions attached. On the menu: * Snow crab (1 kg) * Eggs Mimosa à l'orange with trout caviar (4 Pcs) * Provolone and pepper Arancini (4 Pcs) * The rest of the Easter dishes (and there were 7 others!) were consumed promptly and efficiently. The crab was just perfect. Sweet, tender and in a massive quantity. All the parts were properly separated and pre-cracked for easy retrieval of the snow white meat. The Mimosa eggs were flavourful and melted in your mouth. The arancini balls were also tender and extra flavourful. Pleasantly surprised from my dinner here. It's now added to my go-to places for dinner in St Henri! Vibe is young and modern, setting is cozy, staff are very nice and accommodating. We shared : - polpette meatballs 5/5. Juicy, tender, flavourful in a very fresh tomato sauce. - cacio e Pepe. 6/5 (that is not a typo). Perhaps my fav cacio e Pepe in all of Montreal - anchovy pasta. 5/5. Very good also with a nice balance of flavours. Their wines are excellent too. First timer at Bar Bara. The food and service was great. Love the choice of having a small portion. I went for lunch and was thankful to be able to order a small portion. I ordered the bolognese and it was great. We shares the fried olives. If you like olives, these are fantastic. Tip: they don't take reservations. I will be going back for sure. read more

So excited to have this new wine bar nearby! I ordered some of their delicious plates for delivery including their polpettes, pasta, and their brownie dessert. I am happy to report that everything was just perfect! The order arrived perfectly assembled and still warm! The meatballs were the best part; I can't remember having hearty flavourful polpettes like these before. The tomato sauce was tangy and delicious. The pasta literally melted in your mouth; they surely did not skimp on the cheese and butter. As for the dessert, my regret was that I ran out of milk, cause that chocolate brownie was sinfully decadent and milk would have helped wash it down. Really terrible service, filthy food display (flies on the pizza, etc...), far too expensive - especially relative to other available Italian options in and around Montréal... If you're on Notre Dame, you've got such a great selection of restaurants to choose from, I'd highly recommend BOSSA Prêt-à-manger in Verdun. My personal story is that I came with my spouse, we got two wine menus, waited 15 minutes until I hailed a waitress and explained that we had no food menu. Waitress brought the menu and explained that none of the food items were available, except for the bread items. By now it has been 20-25 minutes. We go inside, flies are covering all the bread items in the display, so we order coffees. Coffees were simple orders but took 15 minutes to prepare and roll out. We get them - and the ice coffee tastes filthy. Hot coffee wasn't bad, was nice and strong admittedly, but took too long to prepare and wasn't enough to salvage the experience... I'd give it zero stars, but this is the lowest I can give! read more

The food is good, but not good enough to justify all the other issues with the place. First of all the bathrooms were absolutely horrid (I have attached a picture). It practically made me lose my appetite. On top of that, our waitress was extremely rude to us and even ruder when we mentioned our allergies (very un-accommodating) . She was also touching the rims of our wine glasses while pouring. So disgusting and unacceptable. After dinner one person at the table ordered coffee, and was given a dirty spoon with it (shocking). There was also bugs flying onto the table. The only reason I give it 3 stars is for the food. It was good and I would love to come back if they clean their act up. read more

The food is absolutely phenomenal, but I was very disappointed to see that BarBara apparently didn't get the memo that there is a global pandemic? This restaurant is not following the guidelines at all. I went there for dinner last week, and it was PACKED. No distancing between tables and patrons, I was sitting at the bar, literally bumping elbows with the woman next to me. There was a book at the front but no one forcing patrons to sign in. I don't know why this restaurant would risk an outbreak, and risk getting shut down. I will never eat at the restaurant again, because if they're breaking THESE rules, what other guidelines aren't they following? Very disappointed and I hope an inspector fines them heavily. read more

The atmosphere and service at Bar Bara are good. The menu for the staggered reopening is limited, but that is to be expected. What I did not expect was their interpretation of "frittata" as a baked pasta dish. I ordered a sandwich called Focaccia Frittata Pomodoro and checked before ordering that it was indeed egg and tomato. All good, confirmed. What I got was a focaccia sandwich with a thick slab of dry, baked pasta in tomato sauce. When I saw it and suggested they'd made a mistake, they insisted that this was the "frittata" and that there was egg in it - I guess as binder since it was nowhere near the omelet-related dish you get when you order frittata anywhere else. The idea of a basically dry spaghetti sandwich didn't sound very appetizing but I gave them the benefit of the doubt and decided to try it. It was not good. It was as starchy and flavourless as it looked. My companion's grilled vegetable sandwich was apparently very good and the service was good so I gave it 3 stars but be warned. They have randomly changed the definition of frittata. read more
