I was amazed! This place makes your taste buds explode! Love the layout of the place very lounge and chill. The food is like finger food (small portions) which I love and also very delicious and not that expensive. I highly recommend to order the flat iron steak if feeling beef. Or the cinnamon duck if feeling kinda a gamier taste. Also the Manchego & Bacon Dip is a great dish to start with. I'm from Seattle and when I'm going to be passing by anytime soon I will for sure stop by and get some food! Haven't tried the drinks yet but that's for next time. read more

What a wonderful way to start a wine tasting tour of Oregon. Got in too late this evening to tour the local wineries. Found this gem on Yelp. I had the flight of Oregon reds. Michelle the flight of Oregon whites. By far our favorite was the Rouge Valley, 2012 Tempranillo from Jaxon Vineyards. For me, I also liked the 2012 Kriselle Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon and the 2011 Folin Cellars Estate Syrah. Both of these are also from the Rouge Valley of South Oregon. So what about the food? Loved it! Especially the chorizo filled, bacon wrapped medjool dates. Awesome!!! Be careful of the Prawns Diablo however. They were much hotter than expected. read more

Having eaten Tapas the world over (see some of my other reviews), this place has a strong menu of tapas. We were a party of six and tried croquettes, jamon, meatballs, olives, grapes, ribs, cheeses, flatbread, etc, etc. No paella for our table, just small plates. We took three hours to finish. We brought one bottle of red and one of white. Their corkage was $10 and they had an ice bucket for the white. We got fresh glasses for the changeover between the wines. The server was knowledgeable and skilled. She was attentive and responsive to our requests and questions. While the tapas may have scored a four star rating, the comfort level of the place, ambiance and service was the reason that this place gets five stars, which I don't give very often to a tapas place in America. The dish to get is the bacon wrapped dates - the crack cocaine of tapas. We had it near the end of the meal, so that our group would not just keep ordering that over and over, again. read more

My friend just moved to Medford and we were exploring downtown... friends recommended this place and boy were they right!! Absolutely fabulous time! Great atmosphere and staff. The cocktails were mind-blowing and made with expert care. Our server was honest about recommendations and she was super friendly. Even the owner brought some of our food out and chatted with us about the food. We ordered 5 plates of food and all were fabulous! The crab stuffed peppers (YUM!) Bacon wrapped dates (FAB!) Brussels sprouts (YES!) a charcuterie plate that was on special and the Cinnamon Cherry Duck (DIVINE!). I highly recommend the cucumber basil gimlet and the Tenerife martini made with pepper infused vodka, cilantro and pineapple juice. Just amazing. I could not recommend this place more. So, my girlfriend and I were on our way to Portland and stayed the night in Medford. As we were resting and trying to figure out dinner, my girlfriend says, "lets to tapas." At first I thought she said Topless and I got excited. After she said TAPAS again, we searched and found this place. What a great find. So incredibly dissapointed. I love tapas and I was so excited to try this cozy corner spot. We were not greeted and ignored by all servers when we asked to sit at the bar. Obviously they were busy, but not by any means so busy they couldnt acknowledge us. Bennie behind the bar assured us there was no soup of the day when we saw people being delivered multiple bowls. He took 15 minutes to bring us our two drinks. He was cutting limes leisurely during a rush...havnt you heard of "prep" for God's sake?! We work in on this industry and understand the pressure. The cinnamon cherry duck was an absolute revelation; the Spanish ribs were delicately spicy and tender... The only downside to eating here was the drama-rama bartender/server. She spent the majority of the evening talking loudly with friends at the bar or on her phone. Oh man, so happy my sweetie and I stumbled upon this gem a few nights back. Couldn't believe such a lux & swanky cocktail lounge existed in Medford. Rather, I had settled upon going to the gentleman's club to get a beer when we found Elements. Stacey, the bartendress, is a total doll. She recommended the 'Sexy Human', a pepper vodka with passionfruit puree & a sugared rim...totally delectable! The atmosphere was relaxed, the service was perfect, the layout of the place is nice. I imagine it would be a great place to go with a big group of people because the room is actually quite large and has a variety of little alcoves and nooks to lounge in. Hope to try out some of the tapas next time, but definitely just the place if you are looking for well crafted and creative cocktails. Bravo! read more

Some time ago, we found Elements during our infrequent trips from SF Bay Area to Portland and stopping in Medford for a rest stop. It was good but this time, it was even better! I consider this as truly gourmet quality cuisine! They now have a different chef, Chris Berg, originally from Hawaii and a culinary academy graduate. He's worked in a number of world class restaurants including famed places like Michael Mina, French Laundry and El Bulli, Spain. His experience and dedication to his profession is most evident. The menu has not changed a lot but the fine tuning he has done is readily recognized and has definitely raised the level of the food another notch. We had the Basque Salad, Trio of Albondigas (three different lamb meatballs), Stuffed Mushrooms, Shrimp Diablo and Cinnamon Churros. We had a really terrific meal and no, that's not too much food for two. You have to remember that this is a Tapas (small plates) kinda place. That Basque Salad was so go that we came back the following night to have it, again. The White Truffle Vinaigrette was superb and reminded me of a meal we had in Italy at a truffle place - it was that good. And the Serrano Ham was memorable - slivered and fried in Duck Fat and broken into bits - OMG! Heavenly! And the Marcona Almonds were so crisp and crunchy and tasty - they must have been roasted just before serving! And the Trio of Lamb Meatballs - most unique blending of flavors - 1 Blue Cheese, 2 Spanish Chorizo, Wrapped in Serrano Ham, 3 Peach, with a Spiced Peach Glaze. And the cap to the wonderful meal was the Churros with Raspberry Coulis and freshly brewed coffee. It was perfection in Spades! And we had first class service, too. Stacey and Nikaya took really good care of us. Folks, if you are ever passing through the Medford area, do not miss this place! For us, this is a "destination restaurant!" We've been meaning to head here for a date night for some time. We had the perfect opportunity last night with new friends. They had been and heartily recommended it as a great dinner and social spot. We enjoyed our whole evening. The atmosphere was especially relaxing early in the night. We had one of the large semi-circle booths and found it both comfortable and private, without feeling secluded. Our drinks and food were some of the best we've had in town. Bacon-wrapped dates were my favorite. My wife's favorite was the spinach and manchego cheese stuffed mushrooms. We also shared with our friends the meat and cheese platter, the shrimp diablo, and the valencia flatbread. I would recommend them all. Overall, a wonderful alternative to the typical Medford dining spot. As someone who has lived in large metro areas before, I found Elements to offer that much missing taste of sophisticated city living, without all of the associated pretensions. Our only caution would be the booth and table nearest the side door. It seemed that someone would come in or go out every 15 mins or so, sending a brisk rush of cold air over our table. When being seated, be sure to avoid these locations. Otherwise, do not miss out on this Rogue Valley rarity. read more

My partner and I tried Elements yesterday for the first time. We sat up at the bar, instantly approached by the bartender with water glasses, a carafe of chilled water, and menus. We ordered off of the Happy Hour menu, which included 3 possible drinks at $6 each and a number of appetizers at $5/item. Our bartender suggested the Fireside, saying it was one of their most popular offerings, even after Happy Hour. Consisting of vodka, pomegranate liqueur, triple sec, and champagne, this was quite tasty! My partner rarely strays from top shelf tequilas, but said he enjoyed the Fireside quite thoroughly. We ordered two appetizers: the artichoke dip and stuffed piquillo peppers. Both dishes were absolutely delicious! The artichoke dip was served warm, with a broiled cheese crust on top. Consisting of the perfect balance of artichoke hearts and cheese, this creamy dip was served with pieces of crusty bread. The peppers were phenomenal, although the portion was smaller than desired. Each pepper was stuffed with a smoky cream cheese and small pieces of chorizo, then deep fried in a very light batter. The peppers themselves were more sweet than spicy, which created a tasty balance in the dish. Needless to say, we will be back again. read more

Bugsy will bestow a generous "2 Star" review on Elements. Simply put, Elements needs to hire staff that actually understands quality service AND understands the product being served. When you pay for a good product, the next part is classy service. I've found that the actual experience of Elements is severely lacking. Perhaps this is the nicest place one has ever been, in which case (and no offense), I can see why you might like it. Hands down, it is in the top 5 of Medford, though that isn't saying much in the broader scope of the world. Advice to make the experience better: Get staff or train them to know where a Pilsner Urquell actually comes from, know how to pour a beer, know the right size glass to bring with it (without having to ask for the glass 3 times, and then getting a tiny water glass). Next, turn the lights down and actually create atmosphere. Being in a brightly lit room on a Friday night after a few cocktails, with really bad music playing...yeah, not so much. That brings me to music. Really? Do I really have to talk about this staple of a wine/tapas bar??? People: Highly recommend that you go to a city, and experience a real tapas bar. Hell, you could even go to little Ashland and experience more character in service in any number of places. Mind you, I'm a Medford resident. On the positive, the food is excellent and tasty. I've read some reviews and since most were positive I gave it a shot. So glad I did. After coming from a big market (Portland) I was worried I would have to do all my cooking at home. Not the case. The food was fantastic, for the most part. A couple of dishes were very close to hitting the mark. Not bad but not perfect. Asparagus was overdone on one occasion and absolutely perfect the next time so I assume someone may have been having an off night. I also heard a rumor that they had a new Exec. Chef and the rumors are true! He recently worked at Smithfield's in Ashland and also hails from Portland. I feel like he brings a new 'element' to the place and it is already apparent in the presentation. I noticed some new artistry in the presentation. Must haves: -Serrano wrapped prawns served with a saffron-vanilla sauce- balanced and absolutely to die for. -Papas De Toro- Braised oxtail with manchego (cheese), crispy potatoes, and frisee. -Catalan Mushrooms- I love mushrooms and garlic. Just had to try this restaurant and we weren't disappointed! It was amazing! The nightly special Risotto with shrimp was a flavor explosion, ceviche was awesome crispy cauliflower was totally a delicious surprise. The calamari was light and refreshing! I definitely enjoyed the flickering shooting star ceiling right above the bar area - nice little relaxing/modern lounge for sure. We had the Trio of Albondigas: stuffed lamb meatballs with: + Rogue Creamery Smoked Blue Cheese + Spanish Chorizo Wrapped in Serrano Ham + Spiced Peach, with a Peach Glaze I like the smoked blue cheese the best; peach glaze was decent; spanish chorizo wrapped in serrano ham was meh-okay compared to the blue cheese one. Then we had Cinnamon Cherry Duck - this one I have to say is simply amazing! Although slightly pricey at $13 for the reserved portion size but the taste is simply heaven - a must have if you ever visit Elements. We also had Mussels Au Gratin - very well done, I loved the seasoning/flavor (keep in mind I don't eat that much mussels in general)... Anyhow, last but not least, we had Elements Crab Cakes. Nice cake with real ingredients instead of the fake flour-filled crab cakes. I liked the dipping sauce too even though it's a very smooth buttery paste thingiee. I have been here for drinks and appetizers over the years and always have enjoyed what I had but nothing that excited me enough to take time to write a review. My mom has been dying to try there Paella so last weekend we finally made it over. We split the beet salad and mushrooms to start. OMG the mushrooms were so good. The flavor was off the charts delicious. The salad was delicious as well. My mom had the spicy passion fruit drink, she liked it so much she had two! I had an excellent Bloody Mary but I was driving so I only had one. Our waiter (who was also making our drinks) was super awesome and we had a good time chatting with him. The paella was good and was plenty of food for two people and if you get appetizers too I would think you could easily get away with splitting it 4 ways. We were kinda full from our drinks and apps so we didn't eat a ton of the paella but I think it was actually better the second day. We went with the seafood and you could tell everything was fresh and cooked perfectly. A bit expensive (mostly the drinks) for a every week place but always worth it for a special treat! My buddy and I rolled into town from San Fran late for some work meetings the following morning. We were thinking we were going to be relegated to the dreaded Applebees. However, after driving around a little we stumbled upon Elements. The bartender, Chris, was very friendly. They have a reverse happy hour too! We proceeded to snack on Tapas and drink some good Oregon wine. The cold Spanish Omelet was bomb. And, the fried halibut sticks were an upscale childhood favorite. Holy cow. I am an Argentine/Spaniard. I know what tapas are, and you can't lie to me about these foods because I was raised on them. I was expecting another over-priced yuppie hangout mascaraing as a pseudo-European venue with mediocre food. WRONG! One of the things I do after I eat someplace is to weight the amount of my bill against the quality of the food and the service. I try not to give 5-stars unless a place really deserves it and this venue exceeded my expectations. It all began with a really warm welcome from a person named Dustin, who seated us and waited on us for the entire meal. He was dapper, polite, well spoken and really knew his stuff. He seemed to always be there making sure we were enjoying ourselves. We tried to order one of everything but that is impossible. Too many things there, but what we did order was fresh, flavorful, delicious and just the right amounts. We started out with the calamari. The thing is that when it is not cooked enough, it is chewy. When cooked too much, it is crunchy. The ideal is right in the middle. That is how this was. Delicious and tender. I recommend any of their flatbread dishes. Especially the Seville and Tudella. Also. their pork empanadas are to die for. For dessert try the flan. It is the best I have ever had in my life. If you like to drink, I highly recommend the Cucumber Basil Gimlet. That is what we had. It is a refreshing blend of cucumber, basil, pepper and vodka. They can also make it with gin, but trust me. The vodka is much better. So, at the end of it all my wallet was a lot thinner and my belly was a lot bigger. But unlike many other places I have tried, I did not have buyer's regret. I am coming back. If you are ever in Medford, you owe it to yourself to try this place out. If you are European, this will feel like home. Bring a date or some one you want to impress. Heading to Ashland, but found tapas in Medford, via Yelp, so stopped on the way. Arrived at opening on a Saturday, which was hot outside, but nice and air conditioned inside. We're gluten free (not by choice) and wait staff was very aware of gluten free options. Started with a generous margarita and sangria. We ordered 5 plates: bacon wrapped dates, fried cauliflower, asparagus wrapped in aged jamon, cinnamon cherry duck and flat-iron steak. These were each delicious in their own way, often balancing savory with sweet, and other flavors, in a very broad spectrum. BTW, adding to this, the sangria was also just slightly sweet, and tart, and refreshing with this variety of food. We were especially impressed with the dates -- savory bacon balanced with the texture and sweetness of dates; cauliflower that was not bitter, but slightly savory, with a delicious dipping sauce, and balanced with slivered almonds and the sweetness of raisins; and steak -- perfectly cooked, tender, and with delicious, savory tomato-based butter served on top of fried potatoes. Besides the wonderful food/drink, the ambiance was very open, dark-ish, with a vaulted ceiling, that really added to the dining experience. A large bar sits to one side, in the center of the room. Large, comfortable booths were available for larger parties. Since we were there at opening time, it was pretty quiet, so we were able to enjoy their ambient/house music, too. Given all of these factors, we'll definitely make a point of visiting Elements on our next trip to Ashland! read more
