After having a negative experience at their Easter brunch and bringing it to the attention of management, the new manager invited us back for a complementary dinner which we enjoyed last night. It was perhaps the best dining experience in Arizona that my husband and I have ever had in our 40 years of marriage. We were ushered to a booth with sweeping views of the mountains and sunset. Our server, Shabazz, and his assistant from that moment on were so joyful, helpful, and met our every need without even being asked or hovering. From the cocktails, champagne (that we didn't even ask for), to the hamachi crudo appetizer to the perfectly prepared seabass, filet, and asparagus to the dessert sampler (which again, we didn't even ask for, barely had room for, but enjoyed every delectable bite anyway), the entire experience was truly sublime. Man was this a great meal, and I didn't even get to enjoy the sunset! Elements served our group an amazingly tasty dinner with excellent service. I had perused the wine list in advance knowing I was hosting guests for the evening and asked the host to set aside a couple bottles of the Pio Cesare barolo which is a wine you don't often see on lists. The bottles were waiting on our table as we arrived and seated. 5-star stuff. Apps, the oysters were fresh and the accompaniment of vinaigrette was spot on. Entrees: two persons ordered the pork chops, one salmon and I had the korean short ribs. Everyone enjoyed every bite and there weren't leftovers. Expertly prepared, seasoned. Just damn delicious. I've never stayed at the Sanctuary resort but they sure know how to take care of guests. We stepped out on the patio to look over the pool and valley in the distance. What a great property. I'm sure we all know people that throw on that super overly fake sweet demeanor? That was our server. And what's up with being called by our last names all the time? My feeling is that an iron chef rating is certainly NOT the same universe as Michelin rating and that certainly was demonstrated in the food. We had a beautiful and tasty lunch. First time at Elements in about 12 years. The view was new and fresh so I forgot to take food pictures. My husband ordered the Cobb Salad. He said it was delicious. Generally portions, fresh with high quality ingredients. I ordered the chicken thighs. My goodness the Asian insprired flavors were magnificent. I only wish they included more of the watermelon salad, my mind might trick itself into thinking the dish was healthy. I had so much chicken on the plate and loved it, I asked for the rare doggy bag. Last night was truly delightful. The food and service was excellent. We got the calamari, quinoa dumplings for an appetizer. For dinner we had the short ribs, swordfish and brussels sprouts. The short ribs were definitely my favorite and the brussels sprouts...drooling still. Then to top it off we had the 'smores and the banana miso upside down cake. The 'smores were out of this world! The perfect blend of savory sweet. One of my favorite parts about the meal was our server's assistant KC. First of all, Elements should be $$$$ on yelp and not $$$. Our bill per head (of course with alcohol) in a private room was ~$370/person for three course meal. We had 30 guests. Do the math...haha! We also dined in the main dining room, and per head was about $125/person. Overview of booking and finalizing dinner for private room: Christine and her staff were wonderful to work with. They were very accommodating, esp when I wanted the room to be set up a certain way. At times, it was difficult to get a hold of her since she's so busy. She is actually doing two jobs! Onto the food I ordered: 1) Farmers market salad: 3/5 this was just OK 2) Miso glazed salmon- 5/5 WOW, this dish is phenomenon!!!! From the moment we pulled up to the valet we were treated well. Showed up a little early and had a drink at the bar. Drinks were beautiful and perfectly balanced. Onto the dinner: menu wasn't overwhelming and left nothing wanting, I could have ordered a number of appetizers or entrees and never finished. Our server was amazing and had perfect timing. Food was cooked perfectly and the portions were adequate. You won't find a better view in the area. Mummy mtn and the PhX Mtns to the north are beautiful at sunset. We made reservations here for our last night in Arizona, literally the last stop before the airport! We didn't know what to expect as we were between two restaurants and mainly went with this restaurant for the view - which did not disappoint. Driving up to the property is also magical as there are other beautiful gated communities and resorts in the neighborhood. We valeted our car and quickly got seated. This is definitely more of an upscale restaurant, and we felt a bit underdressed with sneakers and such - definitely more of a place where you'd want to get dressed up for dinner. We ordered the wagyu and the cod for our main courses and a side of the mac and cheese. Everything was absolutely delicious but I loved the cod and wished I had actually ordered it! The server actually forgot to put our mac and cheese order in but had it rushed out (it still tasted glorious) AND he comped it for our bill which was so gracious and unexpected. For dessert we had the butterscotch budino and it is ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE (and also huge). The best part of this whole experience were definitely our waitstaff. We had a server whose name was Josh I believe, who has been at the restaurant for years and is one of the sommeliers there. He recommended an excellent bottle for us and was not only super informative with the menu but also incredibly personable. Our runner was also the sweetest and both gave us tips on when to go out and take a picture of the beautiful view from the restaurant that they're known for. First time here, was really excited about their Asian fusion menu but a little disappointed in the selection now. Sorry I didn't take a picture of the menu. The rockfellerar oysters have too much sauce over powering the taste of the oysters and the oysters is so tiny that it is lost in the sauce. The lobster dish looked good on the menu but the real thing looks like a green monster throw up and the salmon was okay. The peanut butter dessert was really good. The sunset view was nice. I won't order it again. For the main course, TBH had the Foie Gras, which she devoured....she loved it. I had the Pepper Encrusted Filet which was also awesome and cooked perfectly just a shade above Medium. The Filet was full of flavor and the portion was just right. To compliment our entree's we had a bottle of 2011 Edge Cabernet, which hit the spot. For dessert, we had the Irish Car Bomb and the S'mores....the Irish Car Bomb was awesome. The S'mores was good too, but very rich and we couldn't finish it. They have a nice selection of after dinner drinks, so I had a glass of Ladgate 20 yr Tawny Port to go with dessert. My husband & I stayed at The Sanctuary Hotel for 5 days and had many meals at the hotel. Absolutely fantastic food & service throughout our entire stay. Breakfast, so many fun choices that are very nicely presented (not fussy, just really nice), and on Sunday's they give you a complimentary cinnamon bun. Nice touch. Try their version of Eggs Benedict. For lunch, you have to have the Cabano sandwich with home made chips. Out of this world. There isn't a bad seat in the restaurant. So you have this gorgeous view while you are eating a delicious meal. The bar, Jade, has stunning views of the mountains and music (tasteful and hip) in the bar. I loved the whole look & feel of the restaurant, just an overall great ambiance & atmosphere. We started out with the braised mussels & chorizo in spiced moroccan lobster broth, an amazing app! We then decided to order a couple cocktails, hubs ordered the jaded pear & I ordered the strawberry lavender royale. Very pretty drinks but we didn't care for either. For our entrees; my husband ordered the slow braised beef short ribs that came with anson mills aged cheddar grits, asparagus & mushroom ragu & I ordered the pan roasted free range chicken that came with roasted garlic mash, creamed spinach & sweet onion pancetta jus. Both meals were absolutely phenomenal! We were much too full for dessert so we passed, but a few minutes later our sweet server brought us a yummy chocolate/peanut butter dessert & wished us a happy anniversary. I wish I knew the name of it, but I can assure you, it was decadent & divine. Total with tip was about $145. Pricey, but completely worth it in my opinion. My sisters and I had an exquisite dinning experience at the Elements at the Sanctuary. We were blow away with the service and the exceptional food. We were visiting from out of town on our last evening in Scottsdale and decided to end with this restaurant. The views looked pretty and looked like a good place to eat. It exceeded our expectations. None of us had roaring appetites so the waiter recommended we share a few small plates. We followed his suggestion and had the wontons, calamari, beet salad, and a delicious bottle of red wine. The service was over the top and everything we ate was excellent. They brought us the most delicious special house made cookies that we fell in absolute love with. We have dined at Elements annually for the past few years. This year, we noticed that both the service and the food quality have deteriorated. Service was slow and far from exceptional. Food portions were small in some cases. Previously, we have found Elements to be among the finest restaurants in the Scottsdale/Paradise Valley area. If tonight's experience is representative of how things are now, we cannot recommend Elements any longer. They even charged us for food we ordered but didn't receive. We were billed for it anyway and unfortunately didn't notice that until after we left. The atmosphere is top notch, and some of the food was high quality. Is this enough to create a five star experience? Nope. Sadly, not even close. It is evident from reading other reviews that some diners have had better experiences than we did, but for a top tier restaurant to fall short on both food and service relegates them to the status of a restaurant to be avoided. read more

We went to Elements because we had family in town and we knew the view and ambience would be amazing. Neither of these things disappointed and the service was also very good. Where the experience fell flat was the food. At this price point we expected the food to wow us and unfortunately it just didn't. We all ordered something different from fish to steak to pork and on most of the dishes the sauce and seasonings over powered the main ingredient. I ordered the filet - it appeared smaller than the advertised ten oz and it tasted ok but wasn't the normal buttery and smooth filet I would expect at over $50. They also seemed to rush us a bit with the bread (that they just put on each persons plate as a slice, kind of weird) and our dishes asking if we were done mid dishes. Again the views are nice but I don't think we would return. We spent over $700 and left unimpressed. read more

The rice cake was crispy on the outside, and sweet and mushy on the inside. + Honey Walnut Cake dessert with a creme fraiche ice cream and blood oranges. YUMMMmmM!! The nutty and intense flavor exploded in my mouth. The ice cream was really light. I liked the extra touch with the dehydrated blood orange. It was a refreshing citrus flavor that was similar to a candy. Highly recommended! + Pear Cake dessert with pears and mascapone mousse. The cake was a lot denser than the walnut cake, and the mousse balanced the flavor and density of the dessert. The sweet cranberry was a good touch. I liked how this dessert was not as sweet. I'm a real foodie and this was one of the best meals I've ever had. My honey n I were not expecting such a fantastic meal. We had the Calamari, Oyster Rockefeller, Beet Salad, the Filet and a pasta lobster dish. ALL of which were EXCELLENT. Not to mention the amazing drinks we had (Remy sidecar). Very knowledgable about the menu, friendly, and quick. I had a dirty martini that was made perfectly. We started with the rock shrimp and crab dumplings. Delicious. Then I ordered the Filet of Beef, and he ordered the pork chop. They were both out of this world. We took our first bites and looked at each other in amazement lol. The steak was cooked perfectly medium rare. I'm from Nebraska and it was by far the best steak I've ever had. We finished every bite. Portions are a good size too. I feel like at most upscale restaurants you get small portions, but not here. We were so full but were afraid to miss out on dessert so we ordered the Smores. It was just as delicious as everything else and we finished every last bite. The view is amazing from the bottom booth we sat in and we were there right at sunset. I highly recommend Elements. I have been wanting to visit Elements for a while now and I finally got my chance recently for my friends birthday brunch! She made a reservation ahead of time for our group of 10 so they had no problem accommodating us. The resort is absolutely beautiful, we were seated near windows where we took in the beautiful views of the pool and the mountains. The service was great, our one server was very attentive and made sure that our champagne glasses were never empty! (huge points for that!!) The buffet had a great selection of salads, pastries and seafood, they also had a made to order omelet station as well. They also brought out plates of these yummy cinnamon rolls...OMG they were so decadent and I think they were sitting in a pool of maple syrup...I was in heaven!! After our group finished eating we went out to their lawn area where they had live music, we were prepared and brought our blankets and just hung out danced a bit, ordered a couple of pictures of sangria and enjoyed a beautiful Sunday afternoon. I was caught a little off guard that we had to pay $10 to enter the music on the lawn area considering we had just finished eating brunch inside of the restaurant but other than that the day was very relaxing. Came back for lunch to sit in my usual booth and have same server lol. I was a little sad the shade was down so couldn't fully enjoy the view. I was craving a burger so got that and it was delicious with perfectly cooked fries. It really hit the spot! They were doing 50% off bottles of wine so I had a bottle of nickel and nickel cab which of course was awesome. I do wish the wine deal was better cuz I would be there even more! 50% off is great, but the price is pretty much regular retail so it's a great deal at a restaurant, but not so much cost wise cuz you can get it at same or cheaper price in person or online. Still, I always enjoy my food, service, and ambiance here. My only complaint is that the menu is too limited, which is why I can't eat here that often. But that's cuz I get tired of things very quickly. Oh one other thing. The prior two times I ate here, I had parked in the valet area across from main entrance. Both times the valet told me it was okay. The last time I went to Jade bar to eat and drink, the guy told me that parking was only for valet and told me to park down by the spa. So that's what I did this time too. It's not a far walk, but when it's super hot outside, it is not a comfortable walk. So I'd like to get clarification if that area is only for valet parking. A Groupon brought us to Elements for lunch this past weekend. The views are absolutely stunning. For being a picky eater, I was able to find something that I enjoyed. The menu however is so small that I had a little bit of a hard time deciding on what I wanted. My husband ordered a burger that was just basic and not worth $17. Our waitress was great, but a member of the waitstaff brought out bread and never came to our table, but all the tables around us. (Out food came out right after so I didn't think much of it after that) All in all, we had an average experience here. read more

The charred edamame is a huge serving with Asian flavors, including sesame oil, black sesame seeds, and togarashi. The lime juice adds a nice citrus zing. The grilled chicken is cooked perfectly as it remains tender and juicy. The pickled cucumber salad, acts as a palate cleanser with an acidic and sweet taste. Along with the bok choy and red onions, the cucumber adds a nice textural contrast. The fire roasted shrimp are big and plump. They remain tender since they aren't over cooked. The pork fried rice adds a nice richness, while the bok choy adds a nice crunch. The sweet chile adds depth of flavor without being cloyingly sweet. The braised short ribs are super tender, and fall apart with just the slightest nudge from your fork. They have a nice crust but is not dry in the middle. The bacon and brussel sprouts add a nice earthy contrast to the Korean BBQ sauce. The crème brulee is a classic is not a firm custard, but silky smooth. The burnt sugar adds a texture contrast to the vanilla custard. The pineapple and raspberries are a nice palate cleanser. The "PB Bomb" is supposed to be a take on the Reese's peanut butter cup, but while eating it reminded me of the classic candy bar, "whatchamacallit". This is a rich dessert, but totally worth the calories. Although Elements Restaurant at The Sanctuary is slightly off the main drag of Scottsdale Road, it's definitely worth the trip. read more

The atmosphere is so beautiful. You can see all the lights of Scottsdale and Phoenix and the gorgeous mountains. We valeted the car and got a great table facing all the mountains. Started with the tuna tartare and it was so amazing. It had beautiful tuna, roasted pine nuts, super thin cucumber slaw and ginger. For the main course I had miso glazed salmon well done (otherwise it would come medium well), it was so deliciously flaky and savory. Would definitely get this again. I usually never get desert, but the honey panna cotta was perfect for me, it was so light and not too sweet with lemon curd and pickled strawberries. I actually finished it, which is a first. But a great ending to a lovely meal. The service was impeccable and they even gave me a cupcake to take home! Awww. I didn't want to make a big deal of my b-day. Absolutely love this place and will try to make reservations when the sun is setting for spectacular views. read more
