Let's start with saying that I'm very new to massage and except for friends that are LMPs, one session a decade ago or just friends/partners giving me massages I've never really gone to get a massage. And the only one that I paid for besides this one was a hot stone massage (a decade ago). Now I'm not a frilly kind of girl. I don't care about rock garden fountains, plush loungers, fresh fruit or whatever else I've seen people post about at different massage reviews. I remember going with a friend to some fancy place downtown to get my hair cut and they gave me a robe... I was so confused and embarrassed. I guess thinking about it robes make more sense with massages than with haircuts, but I digress. I LOVED ELEMENTS in Crown Hill. Everyone was very friendly in lounging/waiting area when I walked in. The waiting area was inviting and I found it to be relaxing, of course it's in a stripmall, but when you walk in it's easy to forget that completely. The lights are dim, the waiting area is modest and calming. Being inside really made me happy. And there's lots of parking for cars plus it's right on the 40 bus line. The guy who greeted me, whose name I completely forgot, was so sweet and took the time to answer all of my questions and tell me what to expect and I could feel the passion he had for both Elements and the benefits massage gives your body. He even asked me about myself- had an legitimate conversation (I was early). They put me completely at ease. I went in for an 80 minute massage, first timer. My massage practitioner, Jenna, was the absolute best- not only did she take the time to go over my concerns and talk me through what would be done during my appointment before we started, she also keep me informed during the beginning and I enjoyed our conversation for the first 15-20 when I wanted to talk. Then it's like she knew when I was comfortable because the rest of the time was zen and "hurts so good" time while she did some all over very relaxing (and some extremely therapeutic work to my poor muscles and knots!) during the remaining time. I loved that she spent so much time working on those knots- I will definitely be coming back to have her do some more on them. Afterwards she gave me some tips and advise on how to help a poor spot I have along with some other great recommendations and answered questions that I had afterwards. Jenna really is amazing and has a great personality- so easy to talk to, she put me right at ease. She did say that I might be sore for a few days, but that she didn't want to work to hard on them- there might have been a little tenderness- but the cramping in my shoulders was absent until a day or so ago. When I left I really wanted to learn more about the Wellness Program offered by Elements-and the ladies at the front desk were very casual about it and gave me all the details. It's an amazing deal, I can't wait (literally, my poor shoulder was so happy for days, but it needs more work) until it's financially viable for me to sign up and take advantage of regular therapeutic LMP work at Elements. Oh I forgot to mention- you're offered a bottled water chilled or room temperature, there was a chocolate on the bed- and the beds are HEATED! I felt like a princess. And I received the sweetest card with reminders of what we talked about from Jenna. The only thing that I could say negative happened right before the two front desk ladies answered my Wellness Program questions. When I paid the one I gave it to kind of sat there and paused, waiting, before giving me my change. Now I had already tipped my wonderful massage therapist 20% on the full price of my massage (I paid the introductory price), but I felt a little odd standing there waiting for my change. ****I honestly don't know if that was her intended action or just something I perceived, so I'm not docking Elements for this interaction.**** REGARDLESS of that little weird moment at the end of my visit, it was an amazing experience and a beautiful start to the perfect birthday. I now know how good my shoulders can feel with a little work done on them, I now know how relaxed I can be with a little me time. And as soon as it's possible I am signing up for their wellness program. TL;DR: Loved my experience. Jenna is amazing, she knows how to find and work those knots and still give the rest of your body a relaxing massage. She is friendly approachable and helpful. She talked with me during when I needed/wanted her to and knew when I was comfortable enough for silence. Friendliest greeting and intake. Hassle-free parking is a great way to kick off a massage visit. I love the little touches like chocolate mint patties and bottles of water but it's the skilled massage therapy that keeps me coming back. I miss the big soft robes of a 'spa' but I don't miss the prices; getting treated here is affordable which is great if you need a lot of massage to recovery from an injury or illness. I bought two introductory massages, one for myself, and on for my husband. I wasn't really specific about what I wanted, and now I realize I should have been! My t; therapist was all about realigning and healing, when I just wanted something that felt good. My husband asked for a simple relaxing massage, and was totally raving about it after. My wife and I were getting pretty desparate for a massage, and our schedule makes it rather difficult to make time to be taken care of. We are both LMP's and being able to get a massage at the same time(separate rooms or not!) is quite difficult on short notice! We called around and after spreading a large net found Elements on Holman Rd. We called in, got an appt at a good time no prob. We were told to show up early, as 1st time clients we had do fill out basic paperwork: we did. Then it sat on the counter for almost 10 min while the receptionist(?!?!) yakked on the phone and talked with who I think was a therapist there. We coughed politely and said READY! ...she jumped and grabbed the forms, then hurried into the back. Not sooo professional, but a great massage would totally erase that. We made some specific requests: oil, not lotion, Deeper tissue etc, we were assured the therapists chosen(names withheld) were qualified and brought us back to our rooms. Greetings were pleasant, rooms nice warm and clean; BIG obvious tip envelope on the coatbox!!!!!! TACKY to say the least. We were both a bit put off, but here we go. Beginners, right out of school, both of them, and thats ok, we were there once. Every newbie deserves a chance! She then put a hot pack on my back,(yay) and spent alot of time throughout the session fiddleing with the sheets, at least 10 min of the session, and worried the hotpad around too, (NOT yay.) amateurish, next I requested she focus on my rt low back. she did a slight bit more pressure on the rt side, DID NOT vary her routine a bit( my wife's experience was not too different) I got lotion, not oil, 42 min out of 50 hands on with a tip solicitation staring me down, and a beginner doing work that should have been relegated to a more experienced therapist. I think if We just wanted a spa style rubdown massage the 2 ladies we worked with would have done lovely, but overall We reallly feel like we wasted 100 bucks. On top of that the receptionist tried to play dumb on our change(we had already tipped). NOT going back. really. A frenchise like this should be focusing more on service than selling 'Wellness packages" I want a massage not a gym membership. read more

This is such a great place to get a massage! I've used a number of therapists, most recently Nadine, who was stellar! The staff is always so friendly and helpful, the atmosphere is calming and soothing, and the location is super convenient. You never have to worry about parking....and it's free. I joined as a member and have put it to great use. I've tried a couple of the other Elements locations and have to say that this one is head and shoulders....a very relaxed head and shoulders....above the rest! read more

What a pleasant environment. You walk into a posh lobby of leather furniture and beautiful florals and it smells "fresh"! The place is sparkling clean; exactly what you want in a massage studio. The front desk staff is pleasant and very accommodating. The massage therapists really know what they are doing. I have seen almost every one of them and I can tell you these people are highly educated. I was offered water, hot or cold, a very nice bathroom to use, and there was even a chocolate mint on my pillow when I got into my massage room. What I really loved the most was that it was quiet during my massage, and the music was not overpowering. It was pleasant and relaxing. They have great prices and specials too. Convenient location and friendly staff. My rating is really based on a mixed experience with therapists here. I did see one person several times who I really liked - she was peaceful and had nice technique and was very positive and was OK with me not wanting to chat much. However, my last visit to this location was seeing a therapist who spent the entire session talking about how tight I was and how I must NEVER stretch and asking very accusatory questions. Then at the end of my appointment she told me we weren't a good fit and...professionally broke up with me? I left that massage almost in tears and upset that I still left her a 25% tip because I can't be a jerk. Why the blamey-shamey business? Only a few weeks prior I found out that my mother has terminal cancer, and I went to get that massage for stress relief, ironically. Honestly any massage place is probably fine, but you will serve yourself well to be very picky about your therapist. read more

Let me first start off by saying this is one of the best kept little secrets in the Greenwood/Crown Hill area. I have had close to 20 years of massage therapy for a number of old injuries and better mobility, and have to say that I have been super impressed with not only the studio, but the professionalism and courtesy of the entire staff at Elements in Crown Hill. The studio itself is calm, clean, nicely decorated, and serene. I know that when I go in that I will be greeted by one of the front desk staff, who surprisingly remembers my name, offers me some water and asks me how I am doing and how I've been. Most places I have gone to in the past, I have felt more like just a number. Here I feel like I matter to them. Since I have started my membership, I have seen a total of 7 people, and still very interested in seeing a couple of other therapists who have come recommended by their own colleagues, in the event they are not there at the time I need to come in. I have met some of the other therapists and starting a "to see" list! So far I have seen: 1. Jenna's deep tissue massage is to die for! 2. Kim, who is just stellar and gives an amazing relaxing massage, 3. French, who gave me a great hot stone and also massages my 9yo ADD/ADHD child gets massage from on a bi-monthly basis,. (This is a great help to him and his ability to be calmer.) 4. Jeremy, who just knew what to do, and relieve major discomfort to my hip and lower back region. 5. Jeff, who put me to sleep on the table from getting me so relaxed. (This never happens!) 6. Shannon, who really helped out my lower back and gave me some helpful hints to keep my back from tightening, 7. Melissa was just awesome and nurturing. All of these therapists I would see again and would recommend anyone to try out this studio and meet the people. I am so happy to have my membership with them and really feel like I get my monies worth around people who care with a professional business that matters. This is by far the best massage I have received. I went in with a very painful neck and ED really spent a lot of time to pin point the problem and explain it to me in a way that I could understand. He really worked over the painful area and gave me exercises to do that should provide continued relief. Truly will not go to anyone else but Ed from now on. So I liked my therapist here. Carrie was amazing. I went with a doctors prescription to work out some issues with my back and legs. She was always really helpful. Here's where I start to get annoyed though. The guy at the front desk really rubs me the wrong way. I understand some people may like that personality, but to me he comes off as condescending. The other front desk staff are all lovely. It's just him. And unfortunately, it seems as if he's always there. So, when I initially set up my appointment and made sure my insurance would work, I was told that when I would be getting down to my final 3 or so massages on the prescription, they would talk to my doc and see if more were needed. Sounds good, right? Wrong. I was told at my second to last one I needed to contact my doctor and they wouldn't do it. Im not sure that me telling my doc that I need more massages is gonna cut it. After a discussion with Carrie, she said she was going to write up a progress report to my doc and then I agreed with the front that they would contact me with the new information. They never did. Someone dropped the ball and that gave me enough motivation to stop coming. I miss Carrie and her skilled hands. But I don't miss the trouble and annoyance with that one person up front. 5 stars for Carrie, sadly your front is the reason I won't return. read more

Just had the hot stone massage. The front desk staff and therapist were all very friendly. The therapist was comforting and sweet. However, not a huge fan of the of the hot stone so this review is more about the massage and not the people. 1st, TOO MUCH TO DO. The therapist spent more time messing with the stones than actually massaging. Literally, there was probably about 20 minutes of massage out of a 60 minute session. But, in the end, the people make me want to go back. The therapist recommended other therapist for a back problem that I am having, which has never happened before. Took my sister here for her birthday (and of course I gifted myself a massage as well). I decided on a hot stone massage, and Jeff was wonderful. My back had knots galore, and he found them all. I was a little late to the appointment, but he gave me the full 55 minutes (if not more). He was amiable, professional, and had a good sense of humor. And the massage was great. I've been going to Elements for almost a year now and I love it there. The front desk staff is wonderul and so nice thats a plus! Its always nice to go into a new place and the first people you see are so wonderful and helpful. My massage therapist is amazing! I became a memeber of their Wellness Program, its a really good deal. That way I know I HAVE to get a massage because I already paid for one ;) Plus if you want to treat someone to a massage you can use one of your prepaid session. It is surprising that such a pleasant environment can be achieved in a supermarket strip mall. As soon as you walk in the door, the ambiance is beautiful and relaxing and the staff is very attentive and helpful. (Would you like some water, cold or room temperature?) And the therapist I had - Victoria - was very skilled and able to make nuanced changes in her treatment as I described what I felt I needed or when she discovered the next bit of tangle that needed unraveling. And so strong! Quite a delightful and therapeutic experience. I tried them because of the discount, not having insurance that will cover this. I rarely write yelp reviews and after three bad experiences I think it's warranted. After my first bad experience I contacted Elements and they dealt with the situation very generously and professionally - gave me a free service and followed up several times. My second bad experience was when I was pregnant and the therapist asked me if I wanted her to induce labor which was the absolute last thing I wanted! She offered in a way that felt like she was more interested in showing off her skills then helping me. Today was the last straw. I was grateful that Elements had a thirty minute opening the same day I called for an appointment. The therapist asked me what I was hoping for and I told her I had a tight upper back but mostly I was interested in pampering as I had a one year old at home and had a rare few hours away on my own. The therapist was SO ROUGH. At one point I was nervous about what she was doing to my neck and was obviously getting tense when she said, "just let me have control". I could go on, but mainly I was disappointed that she was more interested in her agenda than giving me what I was asking for - even after I told her several times I was uncomfortable with what she was doing. Bottom line - I think that whomever hires therapists at Elements needs a higher standard. They're getting scratched off my list. read more

I have been going to Elements for a couple of years now and tried 3 or 4 massage therapists. I gotta say Carrie Conway is my fave. She really knows how to find where I need deep tissue work the most. I work out ALOT... so I need massage therapy to help my body recover from tough workouts. Also I think the experience is always relaxing. The receptionist just kept arguing "this is our policy". I got charged for $80 immediately even I didn't authorize it. I was out for a run to Carkeek and I noticed the Elements sandwich board advertising a special on 55 minute massage to new customers. My neck has been really creaky this week, plus I've just started lifting again after a month off, so I could really use a massage. The price was right, and they were able to give me an appointment for an hour from when I walked in the door- I think they would have taken me right away, but I needed to go home to shower & get my wallet. I like the ambience- it's simple, relaxing, clean, and comfortable. The front desk staff was fine, and my therapist was friendly. Unfortunately I can't remember her name. My therapist was good, but not the best I've ever had. She asked for feedback about the pressure. I felt that she did a great job on my back and shoulders, but not as great elsewhere. Part of the problem is that I can be jumpy and I think I need a different kind of massage- but I don't know enough about it to know what to ask for. I've had some knots in my shoulder/neck and upper back for some weeks now. Have ins. to help w/ cost of visits, and tried four other LMP's prior to finding this particular Elements store, and the LMP Jeff. The others were OK relaxation/spa massages, even after I said I wanted retribution on those muscles in my neck/back that were giving me grief. Then I found Elements and Jeff with "trigger point" massage. This guy with his TP mode of massage has me signing up for several appts. at a time. My back/neck is feeling so much better I can not believe it. It hurt enough where I'd wake up during sleeping when I started to move/roll over during the night. Ouch! Hands down the best deep-tissue massage I've ever had. I think my therapist was Alex, if I'm not mistaken. I mean, he used his elbows and full-bodied strength on me. I am recovering from an injury and he is also a physical trainer so he really knew what he was doing. I felt amazing after and plan on joining their monthly membership club. I was having some very stressful times at work, and thought "what a perfect time to book my first ever massage". After reading reviews here, and finding a great deal for new clients, I made my appointment. The person on the phone was very friendly and helped me with picking the right therapist, since I knew nothing about it and it was my first one. The place itself was very calming and clean, and my therapist was extremely professional (and no talking, yay!). I even added hot stones to my service, and it was fabulous! She did a great job, and having my appointment first thing in the morning, I was so super relaxed I went home a napped for 2 hours! And I am not a person who is able to nap! Another plus is they don't try to pressure you to buy more, like I've heard other chains do. The receptionist did briefly let my know about packages, but there was absolutely no pressure to buy. This was my first massage ever and I wasn't sure what to expect. I have been suffering from lower back and leg pain for over a month now. I met with French who was to be my therapist. What a great experience! She really has just the perfect touch! She was also very respectful and empathetic - these are great attributes when dealing with a new client. I tried them because they took my insurance, conveniently located, and had more availability than my previous massage place. Even though I no longer get massage through insurance (nothing to do with them), I joined their monthly membership & have been very happy with the program! Amazing massage I received from Jeff today! I was tighter than I thought and he made me feel like a human being again. I am definitely going to be a regular! One thing that I really loved was that despite it being in a small strip mall, the atmosphere was very relaxing - the best part (besides the massage) was it was so quiet!
