Now that I live on the west side, Elegant Nails is where I go for manicures and pedicures. Because I'm super picky, and my nails are sensitive, I make an appointment so that I can get my preferred manicurist. Usually I get gel colors, but after five years of back to back color, opted for a French Manicure, still gel, for a fresh and clean look. It looks great! Always a classic. Jen has been doing my nails lately and she is a perfectionist. She lets me soak longer so the old gel slides right off without having to scrape my nails which damages the nail bed. My nails are finally getting stronger! Thank you, Jen! I also go to Diem and Karen, both are also meticulous and my manicures and pedicures always look beautiful and most important, they last! Wish they accepted credit card payments, my only complaint. I never have cash. They do have an ATM machine, but I plan in advance so I bring enough cash for service plus tip. read more

NOTE: THIS IS NOT ROCKET SCIENCE. I used to go here a few years ago (it's sorta far for a manicure), but I thought I'd give them a shot again. I have opened my mind to anywhere in my quest to find a nail salon that is consistent AND nice. Apparently that is a tall order as I have yet to find one in the SW PDX area. I don't want to whine but I had a fantastic salon in Chicago, another in LA and no problem in Alaska (!), but the experiences I have had in Oregon have been 3 stars at best down to 1 star (painful and rude). So, this is the middle of the proverbial pack as far as I can see. As usual, very little communication, management seems like they are physically there, but don't care much, chairs are bit worn/dated, atmosphere is subdued and prices are the standard for around here - which is actually on the high side compared to places like NYC where you can get the same service for 1/2 what I was charged.... My technician was either inexperienced or sloppy. I left with polish that was lumpy looking on the tips, really round (I asked for similar to what I started with which wasn't round!) and a cut on my cuticle. Just so not cool. This should be a relaxing experience, but I left sort of grated with the whole place. If this were another state, I would probably give it 1 star, but as compared to their competition, 2 stars is the right rating, methinks. I know that it is probably grueling/tiring work, but that isn't a reason to let customer service slide - just the opposite! After the cut on the cuticle and the overall blah feeling I left with, I won't be back anytime soon. read more

I went in for an appointment for a full set, and when I arrived they told me that they don't do full sets. WHAT? I clearly made an appointment for a full set over the phone. This place is a joke. The ladies here are really nice, and they were more than happy to make an appointment for me when I walked in. My only cons are that she did cut me on the whole length of my pinky cuticle with the drill bit file thing and it hurt, but I didn't want to make her feel too bad so I didn't say too much. Now that I'm out of the salon and its scabbing over I can see it's kinda deep actually. My second con is that she didn't compare the nails on each hand to eachother to make sure they were filed the same way, every person that has done my nails before has done that. She did a good job, except for my thumb nails are way different lengths and are glued on in way different spots down the nail. I may have to go get it fixed somewhere. My mom and I have been coming to this salon for years and love it. We have tried some others in the area but always come back to Elegant Nails. Easy to make an appt and great pedicure that always lasts a long time. I've also gotten my eyebrows waxed here many times and they always do a good job at a very affordable price. Poor quality/Terrible.-Manicure Experience could be based on who you have. First: Different prices quoted to different clients walking in. Laughing at fact that they were doing in it in front of customers. $18-$23 for manicure. Shellac, I was told $30 for manicure, then she quoted someone $32 and then below in comments seems they charged someone else a total of $42 for both mani/pedi shellac. BBB may need to do investigation. Second-No precision or attention to detail. Third-Cut me twice and then said I had a hangnails. True, but not in same location as cuts. Fourth-Manicure lasted 1 day because polishes have been diluted to last. Old products. Cuticles and nail length/shape uneven. It also seemed girl doing my nails had no interest in her job, therefore lacked attention to detail. Too expensive for something I could have done better myself. thumbs down- read more

colors never match the samples, rude customer service humor. I really wanted to like this place. They let me bring my puppy which I loved. All 3 times I had my nails done here the color did not match the samples. The 1st time the tech showed me the color wouldn't match and let me take my time selecting, my purple still came out brown. The 2nd time she let me stop halfway and choose another, I liked it. The 3rd time I commented that the polish looked pink and I thought it would be nude, the tech did not respond. I could not like the color after hours of trying, I called them back willing to pay full price. They offered to take the top coat and charge half, or redo completely at full. As the tech buzzed my nails, I noticed she wasn't doing it evenly and asked her if it was "working out". She said she was afraid it would be very bumpy so she recommended a complete redo. I paid full price to have my nails redone. They asked if I liked it, I said yes that that was exactly what I was looking for the first time. Then they continued to make jokes after I paid about how later tonight I would change my mind and they would see me again tomorrow. I left feeling like their impression is that I came back because I was indecisive, when actually the tech should have told me the color on the model didn't match or at least have responded when I commented that it did not. I changed my mind because the color didn't match my choice, not because I couldn't stick to one choice. Not sure what's up with those bad reviews but I have been here several times and always leave very satisfied. The salon is nicely decorated and comfortable and everyone is friendly. I have Dim do both manicure and pedicure and she is very meticulous. She does the best pedicure I've ever had- flawless every time. And she's one of the few who's willing to cut them short so they look good for a long time. I highly recommend this place! read more

I had one good experience here and my 2nd appointment was terrible. I made an appointment for 5pm for 3 manicures. We arrived at 5:03pm to a lady standing at the door with her arms crossed behaving sternly and rude because we were late. When one of us asked about fake nails, all 3 employees said they don't do fake nails anymore. Crazy because we called for a price for acrylic nails and received a reasonable quote. After they said no to we won't help you to my friend, I still wanted manicures for myself and daughter, I was sitting, ready and being very nice trying to calm them down because they were clearly upset about the idea of anyone wanting fake nails. The 3 employees kept telling us to just leave and behaved very angry. I have never been treated so rude in my life. There was 3 employees there, 3 customers, and 3 appointments and the employees acted like it was time to go home. Absolutely no kindness or customer service here at this location. If I was the owner and knew exactly what happened, I would be finding new employees ASAP. Why would you employe people that do not want your company to do good and make money. The girls actually told us to go across the street to a place that is open until 7pm. We left at 5:10, you lost more than 3 appointments that day, if we had a good experience we would have been back every week. I will post my review on every website possible because the general public needs to know this shop does not want customers and they refuse to do fake nails. This shop is owned by the sister of the owner of the similarly named shop on NW Johnson that I've gone to for years and years. Now that this is closer to my current home - and much easier to park by than it's downtown cousin - I tried it out and was completely satisfied with my pedi. Best nails salon ever!! It is pricier, but SO worth it. The girls are meticulous, take their time with you and give you the best looking nails you can ever get. At first I thought this place was really good. I had a regular mani and pedi, which started out as a great job. The massage for both was amazing. But, they were definitely too hard with their tools. I only had a couple minor cuts, but a week later, I got a very bad infection on my cuticle (which my doctor told me happens from getting nails done professionally). It started throbbing a few days after, and then turned all red and yellow and full of puss. It is disgusting and painful. Plus, I am used to getting shellac nails so I didn't think of it at the time, but she charged me $21 each for a regular mani and pedi, so $42 total! I am used to $13 for a reg mani and $16 for a reg pedi. Those are shellac prices. I will not be going back here for being very overpriced, and for fear of unclean tools. read more

My Mom and I recently visited this salon for a Mani/Pedi. I had been to this salon several years ago and thought I would give it a try again. It seemed to be that I could not find any accurate pricing online or in the salon and once we were finished with our Mani/Pedi (they never asked what kind we wanted) we were asked to pay $48 each. Also, there were definite jokes being tossed around to which we could not understand when we could not decide on a "Red" color (we had 3 options we were trying to choose from). In the end, I am tired of spending good money on poor customer service...especially when I am nothing but nice to these individuals. Like some others that have posted, I am surprised there are any poor reviews. I have gone to other nail salons in the area, and been horrified by carelessness and sub-par services. I was thrilled when I finally stumbled upon this hidden gem! The technicians take their time and ensure perfection - which is how it should be when paying to have nails done. My shellac manicures have always been done beautifully and last the entire two weeks plus. The staff is also far more professional than any of the other salons I have been to, so I disagree strongly with the reviews stating otherwise. I hate complaining about a pedicure - hey - you're getting a pedicure, right? But the water was tepid (I asked the woman to make it warmer, which barely helped), she was brutal with the pumice, really hurting the tops of my toes, then repeatedly poked me (hard) with the trimmers for the cuticles, to the point that my toes still hurt the next day. I politely told her it hurt more than once. Then she drained the tepid water way too early, leaving me with an empty basin, and took my flip-flops across the room to the drying area, so that I had to walk over there in slippery bare feet. And this was a $25 pedicure. No credit cards - cash or debit only. I get a pedicure about once every month or two, and this was by far the worst one I've ever had. read more

So disappointed in Elegant Nails. I went in for a pedicure and picked a nice pale purple. She started painting my toes and they looked blue. I spoke up before she even finished the first coat and she insisted it was the right color. By the second coat, I could tell it was for sure an entirely different color than the one I picked and rather than re-doing the job (which in my opinion would have been the right thing to do) she repainted a hot pink over the blue color. My toes are now an extremely ugly brown color. Normally I would just swallow this as a bad experience but Elegant Nails pedicure was WAY more expensive than other nail salons ($45 for a pedicure?).
