I brought my old but upper level Technics turntable to Mr. Diaz because it was no longer spinning at an even speed and was no longer responding to the electronic speed control. Mr. Diaz was a delight to speak with. He explained exactly how he would repair the turntable. BTW, his explanation demonstrated a detailed knowledge of the turntable design, engineering and innards. His fee structure was reasonable. I authorized the work which was done in the forecast time frame. Took the turntable home and it has been working LIKE NEW for more than a year. Yesterday, I contact Mr. Diaz by email to ask about potential repair of a Super Audio CD player. He responded promptly and advised that the machine is too old to repair because of a lack of parts. I took vintage KLH Eleven to ESC. It had been sitting in my mom's basement for 30+ years and wouldn't power up. Mr. Diaz had it up and running by replacing power supply circuitry, cleaning and rejuvenating all controls and switches as well removing corrosion from plugs, jacks, and connectors. Old grease removed from turntable mechanism, cleaned and re-lubricated. New styli installed. Excellent job and it sounds great for nearly 60 year old technolgy. I recommend ESC. I also inquired about rejuvenating an ELAC Miracord 50h from late 1960s. Mr. Diaz was knowledgeable and upfront about the cost and whether it is beyond economic repair. read more

If you want someone to waste 3 months trying to get a repair and charge $400 to repair a $200 item then this is the place. Sent a Receiver for repair (referred to by Onkyo's website) with a sound issue under warranty. They sent it back with a firmware update. Of course, the problem was not fixed, but I was out $80 shipping. So I had to drive it down a second time so I could verify they would even look at it. Waited 3 weeks with no word, then they said it was water damaged, which means they never even looked at it the first time. So their offer was to charge nearly double the unit price to fix it. All around an awful experience that could have been solved quickly by doing the job right the first time. P.S. Now the unit is being held hostage cause they won't honor the free shipping back. So I will now have to pay shipping or 4+ hours plus tolls to get my unit back. Again all cause they never did their job the first go around. read more

I broke a pin off in one of the RCA inputs on my Tascam HD-P2 recording deck (tripped over the cable). My turntable was skipping and I called to schedule to bring it in and ended up swinging by that afternoon. The office is in the back behind a house but there was good signage. While I expected to leave it, Jimmy looked at it immediately. He checked the tone arm alignment and the stylus weight at various locations; he then adjusted the counterweight to dial in the weight. Once configured he then removed the stylus and looked at the needle under a microscope. He declared the needle was in good shape and not the cause. With this completed, he was done and declined any payment. I took the turntable back and have not had the issue since bringing it in. So I couldn't be happier. read more

I have a 35 year old NAD 7020 receiver that was acting up and had Jimmie give it a once over. He charges $45 to diagnose, which he waives if he repairs the item. He thought it was the contacts, and would take him a week to fix it. Seven days later I picked the receiver up. Luckily my receiver just needed some new contacts and a good cleaning out and now is good as new. Only cost me $100. I was directed to Electronics Service Center for a warranty repair of an Onkyo receiver. They completed the repair and then shipped the receiver to me in some kind of power tool box with minimal padding. Not surprisingly, the receiver arrived damaged. UPS refused their insurance claim. Consequently, they wanted to bill me for the damage (?) and also implied that I may have somehow been a contributing factor, although logically that makes no sense. They would not make good on the situation, even when at fault. If you need an electronics repair, stay away!! If a company directs you to here for a warranty repair, ask for a different alternative. He fixed my Nakamichi receiver (with parts from my other non-working one :D), and charged me less than the original estimate which I can only assume is all but unheard of these days in any business (not guaranteed to happen of course, dependent upon the situation, if I didn't have the second one I would have been out the diagnostic deposit which I knew going in if it wasn't repairable). I found ESC doing web research for a reputable repair shop within easy driving distance. My 5 yr. old $600 Cambridge Audio receiver was out of warranty and had "died" overnight (power surge?). My retailer referred me to the only US authorized repair (in N.J.) which required me to pay shipping (receiver weighs ~20 lbs.) and a substantial up-front diagnostic fee but seemed to push an offer to provide substantial exchange credit towards the purchase of an equivalent current new model (how would I know it was really new and not recently repaired?) as opposed to repairing my equipment. This was NOT what I was looking for. ESC's web site doesn't mention Cambridge audio and although hesitant, I brought the receiver over. Jimmie was cautiously optimistic and said he was familiar with other U.K. audio products. The $50 diagnostic fee would be applied to the repair charge but returned if he was unable to obtain proprietary parts or do the repair for other reasons. He warned that he was backlogged about 1 month (which I appreciated knowing) but I figured it would be that long or longer if I had shipped the item to N.J. at almost certainly greater total cost. Three weeks later, he called and said it was all fixed and ready for pickup. Hooked it up and demonstrated that it was repaired at pickup. Total cost was $175. Work guaranteed for 6 mos. Item looks, handles, and sounds like new. I'm totally pleased and highly recommend ESC even if your unit is not mentioned on his web site. He's very busy and seems to know what he can probably fix or not fix even before accepting a repair job. I'd bet he doesn't want to waste either your time or his! A competent, honest expert charging a fair price. A rare combination these days. read more
