The atmosphere and service was fantastic. I ordered ala carte beef burrito and also a tossed salad. My hubby ordered the grilled steak salad. My hubby said that the grilled steak salad was pretty good. My burrito was decent but not very flavorful. The tossed salad was green pepper and lettuce with cheese along with sliced tomatoes. It was decent as well but not very flavorful. The chips and salsa were delicious! The service and atmosphere was very good. They just need to make it more flavorful. Well I failed you all, got hungry and dived right in without a picture! Not to worry though, El Toro is pretty standard Mexican fare. Let's hit the basics, service - very good over all. Responsive, checked in regularly but not to much. Everyone was polite and very fast service. Ambiance is what I would call typical, restaurant bar type atmosphere with Mexican music in the background. No issues but don't expect a lot in that respect. Now the food, also right on par, good food, I had the trio fajitas which were very good but again typical for this style restaurant. Salsa was a little sub par but also not bad. All in all this is a solid choice for lunch or dinner, I don't think you can go wrong! Not sure why the star rating is so low, my experience was very positive. read more

The Mexican food quality and taste is just OK. The pricing is a bit high for such mediocre food, but is probably because the portions are generous. The atmosphere was nice. The bathrooms were a safety hazard and gross! They literally threw a bucket of water with cleaning solution onto the bathroom and declared it as 'clean.' I'll start by saying that the salsa was great! The chips were not bad, not the best I've ever had, but again...not bad. Prices are a bit high, but that may be the proximity to all of the hotels along this road. I ordered the Baja fish tacos. They were tasty, but there wasn't much fish at all. The rice was very good. I didn't much care for the mixed vegetables. Service, while pleasant and friendly, was lacking. I was finished my meal before the server came to check on us and my drink had long since run out due my love of the spicy salsa. It took a while for the server to bring our check and he dashed off so quickly that we didn't get the chance to tell him that we needed separate checks. But when it did come out, it was cold, not even luke warm, just cold. I'm in the service industry so I don't like to complain so we didn't. My friend ate his cold burrito and I asked for a box for mine thinking I would take it home and heat it and eat it. Nope, it was still not good. The reason this is a 2 star is because the waiter was friendly, very friendly. Took my family here for a dinner on a Friday night. First thing you notice when you come in is how run down the inside looks. Once we got a table which wasn't any wait but had to ask for a regular table. Our server did pretty much the minimum a waiter could do. The one saving grace for this review was the food. I love to travel and I travel for work, but that doesn't mean I love to work! I do, however, enjoy the places I get paid to visit. This past few weeks found me in Vandalia OH and I discovered El Toro. Yes, it's a 'chain' but the food is as good as any independent eatery...so good, I visited twice. First visit I had the grilled chicken Quesa-Dilla (as I call it) with a house margarita (on the rocks, no salt). The chicken was full of flavor, the tortilla was lightly grilled and the plate was On Fire, it was so hot! No, I didn't touch it. Visit Dos was for the grilled steak Quesa-Dilla and it was even better than the chicken (as a Chickaholic, that's a real admission to make). Again, everything was served hot and quickly and the margarita was on point. The place is clean, the staff are friendly and authentic and all but the busboys speak decent English. What's not to like? We stopped here on our first night in the area and had a good experience. The place was busy but we were seated quickly . I got a large margarita ( so good! ) and we ordered several different items off the menu. Tacos , enchiladas, quesadillas and steak... everything was great. I don't recommend this restaurant. My husband came across a piece of wood in his fajita dinner!! Thankfully he didn't choke to death on the piece of wood! But the point is when calling to speak with the manager. Who's name is Kwan. He wasn't any help either. The employees were no help over the phone. They laughed at the the situation and hung up the phone. Very unprofessional!!! Do not eat here you don't know what you'll come across in the food or over the phone!!!! The staff here is so friendly and always takes great care of me and my family whenever we come here. And they absolutely have the best tasting Mexican food in town. My go to dish is El Pollo Loco. We came here as a party of nine on a Friday night at 6, and they seated us right away at a large table with plenty of room to spread out. Drink orders were taken quickly and chips & salsa kept full throughout the meal. The two queso orders arrived almost immediately and were of course delicious. Big enough that we ended up taking some home. Chicken fajitas arrived sizzling hot with super fresh peppers, fish tacos with pico & chipotle cream were fresh tasting and yummy. The side veggies that come with the fish smelled disgusting (cauliflower broccoli squash carrots potatoes) so no one would touch them! A steak was cooked perfectly medium and looked juicy & was delicious mixed with rice beans & guacamole and rolled into tortillas. The chicken chilaquiles were tasty, and we brought home at least half an order to eat later. Burrito California could have had more steak, but it was tasty. Burrito Mexicano and chimichanga were reliable favorites. Their beans are nothing special, but the rice is very good. Refills on drinks were a little slow, but all orders came out correctly. Overall a good experience as a large party. We spent about 1-1/2 hours at the table and never felt rushed. read more

Came here after work with some friends on a Friday night. Music was a little too loud to fully hear your conversation without shouting. It was moderately busy, and we had a group of about 10 people. They were decently quick to get our order in given the size of the group. The wait for the food was as expected, but not quick. Food itself was also good for the price--good portion size, but not authentic Mexican food (but where else would you go in Ohio?). I will say when you get avocado with your meal, it's a good amount of avocado compared to some places. It took a long time to finally get the bill, and we had to ask after being done with the meal for almost an hour. I would only come here if my coworkers wanted to again. For a local Mexican chain, El Toro delivers a fantastic experience! They have all your standard Mexican dishes and each one has plenty of flavor. I would like a little bit more spice, but I guess thats why they have hot sauce on the tables. The first time I came to an El Toro, I ordered the enchiladas supremas. They were able to make each of the 3 enchiladas with a different filling so I was able to try the bean, cheese, and chicken. I particularly liked the bean enchilada best! It comes with a side of rice but you can request a side of beans instead. I found the rice to be on the bland side but the beans are really quite flavorful! The second time i came to an El Toro location, I split the Burrito California with my sister. The burrito is quite large so come very hungry, prepared to grab a take hone box, or to split it with a friend or family member. I really enjoyed the cheese sauce the burrito is smothered in (I believe it is the same as their queso dip appetizer). read more

One of the worst Mexican food experiences I've ever had. First, the food was mediocre. Mediocre is actually giving it too much credit. I ordered the queso fundido to start and two enchiladas ala carte. The appetizer and entree came out simultaneously. After explaining to the waitress this was one of my pet peeves, she said, "I know, but since both are very easy to prepare the kitchen just does them at the same time." I felt like telling her that it was then her responsibility to pace the meal, but I could tell that was going to fall on deaf ears. I then proceeded to try each item. The cheese enchilada was passable, but the beef enchilada was awful. I'm not sure what type of beef or seasoning was used, but it tasted like canned meat. It was quite bad, I only finished 1/3 of it. The queso fundido was also appalling. The cheeses sauce was good, but the "chorizo" again was either a very low quality chorizo, or wasn't chorizo at all. I expected to take some home for lunch tomorrow, but instead decided to leave it at the table...it wasn't worth reheating. And finally, even the chips were low quality. I like a chip that is light and hot and delicate when I go to a Mexican restaurant. These were like corn chips from a bag that I could purchase at Walmart. Dense and flavorless. They obviously weren't made in house. Overall, poor food, poor service, never again. read more

We are a group of 5 women that met for dinner. when we arrived at 5:15 pm, there were not a lot of customers in the restaurant. it took our waiter 10 minutes to come over and ask for drink orders, never introducing himself. Once we ordered our food, it was a 1 hour wait to get the food. No explanation from the server or him even stopping by to give an update. we had to flag another server to order another round of drinks. 3 of the dishes that came out and were cold, it took another 20 minutes for the other 2 dishes to come out and they were lukewarm. Again the waiter disappeared and never came back to check how the food was. finally brought the checks, laid them on the table, and said you can figure out who they go to. 20 more minutes before he picks them up, returned them 10 minutes later and 1 of the credit cards was missing, plus some of the change for the one that paid in cash. We will not be back and highly recommend no one else eat there either! read more

This place is incredible! We've come here several times and will keep coming back. The service is great and the food is even better. This place has become my Go-To for Mexican. My sister-in-law who is from Mexico has declared it the most authentic Mexican we've found so far. I have added pics of the Steak Fajitas and the Monster Burrito. Both dinners are large enough to share. I've yet to be able to finish my meal. Although they are the same company, the location on Miller Lane is much better than the Huber Heights location - for both food and service. If you live in Huber, it is worth the extra trip to Miller Lane for Mexican food. The service is great. We've had several servers and all have been fast, kind and delivered accurate orders. They are on the ball for drink refills and seem happy to be there. For comic relief: Check out the menu. Lots of spelling errors make for a fun conversation piece. read more
