Sueno is a wonder in Dayton. Great mexican food, great atmosphere, and a top notch staff. We have visited multiple times over the past few months and they have never disappointed. My wife and daughter both have Celiac, and finding a restaurant that has a proper gluten-free protocol in place is always a challenge. Most of the menu at Sueno is naturally gluten-free, and the kitchen staff has repeatedly proven their ability to properly prepare a safe space for us to dine. This is one of the best restaurants in Dayton, and one of the first places we now bring visitors. Highly recommend. read more

I would love to tell you about the decadent and otherwise wonderful culinary experience we had at Sueño, but unfortunately I cannot get past the condition of the restrooms, and because of that I would not recommend the restaurant. The downstairs unisex restrooms were in extremely poor condition. Nearly every stall had aging pocket doors that either would not lock or would not remain closed. After trying multiple stalls, I finally found one with a functioning lock, only to discover urine on the seat, toilet, and floor, along with an overflowing waste bin that suggested the restroom had not been maintained for quite some time. It was genuinely unsanitary. I informed both a server and the manager. To his credit, he apologized and acknowledged that the doors and locks are longstanding issues that need replacement. It's unfortunate, because the restaurant otherwise has the makings of a special dining experience. But when conditions this poor are visible to guests, for me it inevitably raises concerns about overall upkeep. For us, it overshadowed the evening entirely. read more

FINALLY made it here, after having to reschedule so many times!!! We had a date night, and enjoyed drinks and a lovely dinner after taking in a show at the Schuster. My very picky husband ate every bite of everything placed in front of him. He's like Mikey from Life cereal, if he likes it, pay attention. :D Well, he loved it. The valet parking makes it so easy, just drop off your car & no worrying about finding a decent, safe place to park, plus no walking in the cold/snow/rain/darkness. The valets were very personable and professional. The interior of the restaurant is beautifully designed. They have poured a great deal of planning, design and money into the decor and it shows. The servers were all exceptional. The hostess was very pleasant and talked to us excitedly about the musical we saw. Our server was friendly, efficient and accurate. She checked in on us regularly, kept our drinks filled, and was so good at her job. Manager came by the table to ensure we were having a good experience. I had the delicious carne asada which was perfectly charred on the outside and made even better by the crunchy bits of flaky salt. My husband had the enchiladas verde, and ate every bite. We had their incredible house made chips and salsa of the day, which was quite spicy, and garlicky and a bit smoky. I found myself wishing there was a tamale option on the menu because I bet they'd be really good with that house made masa. Our cocktails were good. The basque cheesecake was out of this world, and even the coffee was extra good. All the way home my husband commented on how great the meal was and what a good experience we had at Sueno. Perfect spot for date night or a special occasion! Recommended by some friends and it didn't disappoint. The vibe was great since it wasn't too intimate but still felt you can have a free conversation. All the workers are super friendly, and our server was super great at recommending drinks and food. Esquites were delicious, served cold with their lime chips that were addicting! A must have! Had the red snapper for dinner, seasoned and cooked to perfection, great if you're not trying to have a heavy meal. Definitely one of the places to try in the area. Sueno is one of our very favorite restaurants in Dayton! Having complimentary parking is a big plus, especially on cold winter days. We enjoy sitting at the chef's counter at Sueno; it's loud and hectic but it's a lot of fun observing what all goes into making the kitchen run smoothly. We've tried a lot of different dishes over the years and it seems you can't go wrong with whatever you choose. This evening, the two of us shared 4 dishes: the grilled marinated chicken with piri-piri sauce, the roasted mushroom & spinach tamales, the brussel sprouts, and the potatoes. Really cool joint. Went on a recommendation on a Friday night and sat at the bar. What a start to the night. Gabriel my bartender and server was one of the nicest and knowledgeable dudes I've met at a restaurant. He recommended I try the mezcal infused w/turkey breast. Super smooth with a hint of gaminess. I had the fish tacos and equites for my main. The equites was a street corn dish with fresco cheese. Super good with a ton of flavor. Hidden jem on the Oregon district! Food is so good we made it a point to visit again when traveling thru Dayton. Beautiful decorations and upscale setting make it necessary a place to visit for any occasion. Waiter was very knowledgeable of all the dishes. Scallops did not disappoint! My husband and I came here for my birthday and I definitely can say that I would come here again. We had a great server that took care of us and we both really enjoyed the food we got. We both got tacos and shared chips and salsa. I will say the fish tacos were a little on the sweeter side which kind of threw me off but they were still really good. It was hard to find parking since it's all street side on a busy night. But after we were able to park, walking in, the place is very chic and beautiful. We quickly made reservations on a Friday evening. Valet was fast and courteous, also included in our dining experience. We were greeted at the desk at the front of the restaurant and shared our reservation details. The ambience is beautiful inside. Plants, clean lines, and an open kitchen. The manager came to offer water while our server finished with another table. Complementary sparkling or still water is included, we chose still. Our server appeared quickly and got us started with drinks and our appetizer. We enjoyed the pumpkin seed dip. It is very good, almost like a hummus but thinner and with the house made chips- delicious! I had the vegetarian tacos made vegan, and my husband had the carne asada, we shared brussel sprouts (they are not vegan because they are made with fish oil, but I eat plant based for health reasons). Am I missing something here? My boss recommended I check this place out and after checking the reviews, went for it. I will say... I had my cocktail in-house and my food to go. Perhaps that makes a huge difference (which isn't ideal but alas). Anyway... Went with "The Guy" cocktail and it was delicious, albeit a tad expensive for the area. Ordered because it had "sea air" listed as an ingredient which I loved and found clever. My ranking would be higher if it were just based on the drinks. The food was... Very disappointing. I should note both the items are my go-to dishes so I have expectations. I ordered the shishito peppers which lacked flavor and honestly, weren't cooked well. Some were burnt, some were undercooked. How does that even happen? My entree was the fish tacos. Again, got these to go. I understand fish tacos are best served fresh and hot, so I didn't expect to be infatuated. But I also didn't expect the tacos to be soggy, fall apart when touched and basically be a fried fish stick with some cabbage. It was just, bad. Would not recommend for takeout and I'm having a hard time contemplating how in person improves it that much. Moral of the story: I would happily return for a cocktail, would never get their food to-go, and would need some coaxing to come back for a meal. read more

I truly enjoyed taking my niece here for her birthday. The ambience when you walk in is welcoming, dark and brooding. The staff were friendly and helpful with suggestions. The food was delicious. We started with drinks, I got a mock tail with jalapeño which was refreshing with a kick. My niece got the margarita which she enjoyed thoroughly. Had an incredible dinner at Sueño last night. The tacos de cochinita were a real standout -- perfectly seasoned, tender, and full of flavor. We also loved the esquites (street corn)! The pacing of the meal was spot on -- each dish came out with great timing, and it really made the whole experience feel thoughtful and relaxed. We finished with the tres leches cake, which was one of the best we've had. Light, soaked just right, and not overly sweet. Beyond the food, the ambiance made the whole night even better. If you live in Dayton and give this place less than five stars, you should delete your review and try again. If you're visiting from LA, Vegas, or NYC, it still deserves five stars. It would be a standout anywhere; in Dayton, it's almost hard to believe it exists. We had the piquillo peppers, mussels enchipoltadas, tacos de pescado, carne asada, pescado veracruzana, papas, border town, barrel-aged oaxacan old fashioned, signature margarita, and of course, you may. My friends are in town from Florida and they adore Mexican style food. I just had To try this place with them and we are glad we did! Firstly, the ambience is top notch. I really like their decor and tables, chairs and booth set up alongside 2 bars and open kitchen concept. Secondly, their service was on point! Our waitress was so helpful, friendly, and very attentive. We got their chips, monthly salsa, and guacamole and they didn't disappoint. We are impressed with their chips. Crunchy with a hint of salt and perhaps toasted cumin (light and worthy to be on the chip). No pic of this because we ate it pretty quickly and what a great start. The main dishes came out timely and get their chicken or steak, please! There's a nice fire char on both and the meat was very tender and moist. The quesadilla is also outstanding as it isn't your typical white flour tortilla but rather grilled veggies wrapped in a homemade corn masa. Yum! Do yourself a favor, come here. Bring friends. Bring a date (a very nice date place). Finally, the restrooms are in the back on bottom floor but there's an elevator (wheelchair accessible, bonus!). MUST TRY!! Went on a weekend before peak dinner hours. There were a lot of tables open but due to reservations, our party of two could only sit at the bar. The bartender was informative and helpful. I tried the Guacamole, Piquillo Peppers, Lamb Birria, Col de Bruselas, Tres Leches and Churros. The appetizers came out quick. Once we finished the appetizers, there wasn't a long wait on the mains. The guacamole itself was good but wasn't anything spectacular. I would get it again for the made in house corn chips. If you like goat cheese then you'll truly enjoy the Piquillo Peppers. The ratio of cheese to pepper is borderline too much in my opinion. The pepper itself seemed just like a bell pepper. The Lamb Birria was delicious. The side of Arbol was textbook. TL;DR: Came here for a date night at the end of vacation as a treat based on others recommendations. Didn't live up to the hype and don't plan on coming back. Service: Bartender was friendly and attentive. Explained menu very thoroughly and provided recommendations. The only service issue we had here was with an order of tacos. We had ordered the pickled red onion on the side, when the order arrived the onions were on the dish, let the server know and she had it remade but this time they just left the onions out completely. Food: I was the most excited for the food, but it didn't quite live up to the hype. We had the taco de cochinita, bistec y mole, and mahi mahi. Flavor was good on the tacos, but definitely wasn't as spicy as we were led to believe. For the mahi mahi the fish itself was good, but the flavor of the rice really ruined the dish for us. The bistec y mole had a good flavor, but I wouldn't say it was amazing. Overall we liked the bistec y mole the best. Drinks were all good. Cost: Another strike here for me. The entrees were touted as being family style with portions sizes described as being for 1.5 people which would have made sense at about $40 a piece. Sadly the flavor didn't live up to price and the portions were smaller than I would have expected. I had two of the three tacos and the bistec y mole and was still hungry after. Drinks were about $14 a piece. Overall: Drinks were good. Food was overpriced for the taste and portion sizes. I don't plan to come here again. read more
