We didn't get our water until after our chips, which was 20 minutes into our dining experience, and we got no refills and had to ask for silverware. We use to go to Chiapas multiple times a year, but that ended last year. The patio is really nice. The food is really good. The service is some of the worse we've ever had at restaurants. We decided to give them one more chance today - big mistake. We got there around 4:00 and we were the only people on the patio with maybe a couple people inside. We ordered two jalapeño margaritas and it took almost 10 minutes for them to come to the table. My wife asked for a couple straws and while she thought she saw straws in her pouch, the waitress proceeded to go inside and not come back out with the straws for another five minutes. Our food was brought out and was excellent. My wife wanted another margarita, but we hadn't seen our waitress for another 10 minutes as she never came out to ask us how our food was. I had to get up and walk inside to find her to order another margarita. It took another 10 minutes for our waitress to come out with the bill and after giving her my credit card it took another 5 minutes for her to come back. Why did everything take so long when there was hardly anyone there? It was frustrating when my wife saw two male workers inside sitting behind the counter doing absolutely nothing. Chiapas is a hole-in-the-wall Mexican joint that appears to be pretty authentic. The menu is huge, with a good selection of drinks too. I ordered the Burrito Chiapaneco for take-out, and it was ready in about 15 minutes. The Chiapaneco comes stuffed with grilled chicken, grilled onions, rice, beans, lettuce and shredded cheese, and topped with queso. When I arrived to pick it up, I was surprised at how small (cozy?) the inside was. They also have a small patio out front. The burrito was huge, and came with three different sauces on the side. I'm usually a fan of spicy, but these sauces were VERY hot, so tread with caution. The burrito also came with a side of chips and salsa which was nice. Overall, the food was pretty good and the portion was very generous. I'd definitely get take-out from here again. read more

Chiapas was a nice surprise, man o man, like a huge surprise. Like that present you had no idea you were going to get. First it looks like nothing much from the outside, but going in there are probably at least 7 or 8 good size booths and other tables and if decorated nicely with a good amount of TVs too. They have a menu with lots of really good options, seafood, chicken, steak, burritos, tortas, chimmies, enchiladas and fajitas, plus much more. And yes red salsa and chips to munch on. By the way I love the little glasses the salsa comes in. Burrito deluxe smothered in cheese was huge and so good, the plate was as clean as a whistle. The Camarcncs Alambre (shrimp wrapped in bacon), looked incredible, my wife loved it. Overall Chiapas is incredible, we loved it and were pleasantly surprised. I've eaten here twice and enjoyed it both times. The three tacos plate is really tasty, a good amount of food, and the meat is grilled perfectly. The margaritas, chips and salsa are great too. Personally, the beans are a bit bland. Customer service is courteous, efficient, keeps drinks filled, yet leaves you to eat your meal in peace. The tables and chairs have pretty artwork. I consider Chiapas my new go-to whenever I'm craving more authentic type Mexican food at a casual sit-down place. read more

I wish I could say good things about this place, but I honestly can't. First off the never-ending music was way too loud. It sounded like one continual song on repeat. If you don't have a headache before you come in, you probably will when you leave. Luckily I came alone (I was in town for work) because talking to someone would have been difficult. In hopes that the owners read this review, first, I like this place. It has a good vibe, some of the food is good, some lacks flavor - maybe even salt or spice. However, IMO, the most important thing for any Mexican restaurant are the chips and salsa - that sets the tone for everything else. The salsa was less than sub-par - very watery and with little to no flavor. My Torta Asada was pretty good, actually surprisingly delicious . The staff is great, and the horchata is especially tasty. Yesterday I ordered via DoorDash. I have to say I've never had worse Mexican food. We ordered four traditional tacos with cilantro and onion. Chorizo (good), steak (ugh) and chicken (awful). The chicken and steak were way over cooked and had no taste. The verde salsa was dark green and tasted bad. The worst part was the beef hard taco and the beef enchilada. The ground beef had no seasoning and had a foamy texture. The enchilada sauce was dark red and had a very sweet, burnt taste. The sad thing is I've had tacos from here before and they were great. This was the first time we expanded and tried something different. Maybe they have someone new in the kitchen or maybe their recipes need some seasoning and tasting. I won't abandon this place for good but for the near future they won't be getting my business. read more

We stopped by on Saturday for dinner and we arrived just in time. Chiapas is one busy place for Mexican food in Centerville right across from Incarnation church. You are given chips and salsa when you are seated, they have quite a menu, it was hard to decide with so many choices. Everything is numbered in the menu and has many enticing pictures of the dishes, if you're unsure what to selected. We were looking for new Mexican place to try and we were treated to a great meal, I enjoyed the steak fajita quesadilla, another friend had two steak mini-quesedilla's and another beef Chimichangas. The food came out hot from the kitchen and the beers were ice cold. They do a lot of carry out orders as there were several people coming in and out picking up their meals, or stopping in to place a carry out order. Note the restaurant is small and their parking lot can be small with lots of people coming in and out. Also they do have several authentic hard to find items on their menu - a true sign of a great Mexican restaurant Chilaquiles, Torta Sandwiches and several soups (Pozole, Caldo de Rez, Mexican Meatball Soup) They do have an outdoor dining area, which will be great to enjoy in warmer weather on a future visit. The chori dip was flavorful and had just enough chorizo to compliment the cheese dip. The salsa was also great - definitely on the tomato side. The chimichanga was okay. Nothing really stood out there. Same with the steak fajitas. The steak was definitely overcooked and lacked much seasoning on the meat. I've gotten to visit once and I'm totally down for a return trip! I took my dad here to celebrate Father's and we had a feast! Nachos, a tamale, a quesadilla and rice with beans. I'd seen the nachos mentioned in reviews and pictures here on yelp, but didn't see them on the menu. Apparently it's not listed for some reason. But when I asked, the waitress knew exactly what I was talking about - tortilla chips absolutely COVERED in meat (steak, chicken, chorizo, carnitas and shrimp) and some queso. Woah! I eat loaded nachos every chance I get everywhere I go and I have NEVER seen this much meat piled on chips at any other restaurant. My only "complaint"? It doesn't come with sour cream and guacamole, which is totally a must in my book. Also, for me personally, the chorizo and carnitas were my favorites of the meats. So on my next visit, I'd probably ask to build my own - leave the other meats off and add that sour cream and guac! The tamale with filled with pulled chicken and topped with a mole sauce. I've only had mole one other time in my life, so I can't say I'm sure what the standard is. But I just don't thinks it's for me. But the Hawaiian Quesadilla was great!! I just love the combo of pineapple and chorizo!! All of this was more than enough food, so we went home with a box of leftovers for hubby - he loved it all!! This place is small and could fill up quick (especially the parking lot!), but it didn't feel overly cramped. We enjoyed sitting in the back corner near the bathrooms so our toddler wouldn't disturb other guests. Our server was super sweet and everything came out fast. I'd actually forgotten I was here a couple of weeks ago, but Yelp knew! The service was good, the food was average. A lot of the pork I had was just fat. The meat had a good flavor and was tender, but...there just wasn't a whole lot of it. The beans were good, though. The tv by where we were sitting was on setup mode or something. I don't watch soccer if I can help it, but it wouldn't have mattered because half the screen was covered by some kind of graphic. I don't even remember what my partner got, but I don't remember her complaining a lot, so I have to assume it was ok. My friend and I came here on Cinco De Mayo and sat on the patio. Plenty of shade and covering on a perfectly sunny day. This was our first time here and the food is just okay. There's not much to rave to about. I felt it tasted generic. We ordered a pitcher of strawberry margaritas and they were truly disappointing. It was so thick and syrupy and definitely not good enough for either of us to order more. So sister in law was having a bad day and I told her to pick her favorite food/eatery and she immediately replied Chiapas. We have driven by this tiny little place in Centerville a number of times and the lovely mrs has always wanted to try it so this is where we had dinner tonight. I'm old enough and been around long enough to remember there used to be a Burger Chef at this address of maybe next door? We walk in and they immediately ask us if we want to sit inside or outside. Sister in law wants to sit inside which I am okay with. I asked about specials and got pretty much one answer? Sangrias? I'm not a fan of those so ended up with a 'gold' margarita with ice and the server stated 'it will get you drunk'! So food;... I got three tacos, one of each; chorizo, carnitas and beef. The lovely mrs got a chicken fajita and the SnL got some enchiladas? The Chips that come to the table as soon as you sit down are some of the best I've ever had at a restaurant. Like real deep fried cut up tortillas and homemade salsa. The bottles of sauce they hand you are rather tasty. The red is like a puréed version of the chip salad and the green is a jalapeño and tomatillo sauce with some fresh garlic, onion and cilantro that is incredible. Server was great. Food was great. The adult beverage was alcohol with a little lime and salt so it was fantastic. We will go back. Not even a clue why it took this long to try it. Support local. Oh! BLUF: The food has been good, the service could use work. If you want Mexican and are already in the area, give it a try. So the long and short of this place is that the food is really quite good but in the 3 or 4 visits I've made here my order has never been correct. The mistakes haven't been bad enough to have them remake anything yet, but that is due to the long time it takes to get food and not feeling like waiting even longer. read more
