Agua Chile: This traditional ceviche-like preparation disappointed with its heavy-handed flavors. The halibut was overwhelmed by acidity and spice. It left me wondering on what could've been if the components were balanced with more care. Tacos De Pescado: At $7 per, these battered fish tacos fell short of the expectations set out by the price. The garnishes were lacking, and the salsa was bland. Pollo Fritto: My favorite dish. Fried chicken thighs in a spicy honey glaze made for a mouthwatering meal. Went to El Techo with a group of friends for a weekday happy hour. Vibes were great on a rooftop overlooking the SF skyline. We were seated pretty quickly and the area up top was bustling. Service was reasonably fast. - Chips & Salsa -- perfectly crispy chips & cool savory guacamole, not sure it's worth $5 though - Quesadilla de Vegetales -- unique twist with the purple tortilla - Tacos de Pescado -- solid fish tacos, was still left a bit hungry after though Overall, I'd recommend going to El Techo for the fun rooftop vibes. El techo is a vibe. I met up with a few of my coworkers for drinks and apps during happy hour (4pm - 7pm). I recommend getting there early because it fills up quick. The views of SF are nice and the playlist is bomb! They were playing mostly afrobeats and hip hop. During happy hour margaritas and beer are $7 each, and there's some apps for $7 as well. I liked the empanadas and plantains , the guac was mediocre. Honestly the drinks are watered down, I had like 2 margaritas and a glass of sangria and I wasn't even buzzed. My two favorites were the Pollo Frito and the Empanadas de Carne. Special shout-out to the chimichurri sauce that comes with the empanadas. I took it home and put it on everything. Last night I was invited to celebrate one of those milestones in someone's personal lives. My in laws who we were celebrating were the celebrating ones , so they chose this location. Apparently this place is by reservation only, since the view is such a delight. The cocktails were delicious as well, I had 2 of those coco loco ones, and i usually don't order much drink with dinner. Waiting staff was very friendly as well. I must however point out how misleading the menu can be. My mother in law ordered "tacos de canasta " but in reality should be called "tacos dorados" because tacos de canasta are made to sweat in a plastic lined basket, not fried hints the name. I actually had one it was decent but the name may not satisfy someone who is looking for what i described is done in Mexico City where tacos de canasta are popular. Our appetizer was a "half a pound of chicharrónes " but i honestly couldn't define if it was that or "carnitas". A bit dry without the salsa or the beans in the mouthful. If you order that please take advantage of those sides. My father in law ordered "aguachiles " which were not anywhere near spicy, what a disgrace since the name implies spicy. Agua chiles. More like just agua. I had the meatballs, which weren't too bad, some places do mix rice into meatballs but they were pretty good. I'll be quite honest with the masses reading this, whoever made this menu and hasn't traveled abroad to research dishes and it shows. But if you show up to drink and have a wonderful view of San Francisco you'll have a wonderful experience. Came here for brunch and loved the vibes! Was here over flight week and got to see some of the planes flying by which was super cool! We got the plantains and the huevos rancheros. El Techo is one of my favorite rooftop bars in SF. You have a clear view of the entire skyline while hanging out in the company of a vibrant crowd, amid the aroma of freshly-roasted and fried foods. On my most recent visit, I reserved a table for Sunday dinner via Yelp. We were fortunate to experience a non-foggy evening, and our table had an excellent view of the skyline. For our group of six, we ordered a pitcher of sangria and about half a dozen small plates to share, including: the yuca frita, empanadas de carne, albondigas de pollo, guac, and the chicharrones de carne. I was surprised when the chicharrones arrived at our table; expecting a plate of pork cracklins, we were served a heaping platter of roasted pork topped with the cracklins alongside pickled vegetables, warm corn tortillas, beans, and salsa. Among the smaller plates, the yuca fries were my favorite because they are always served piping hot. The albondigas were also tasty, but the empanadas lacked the bold flavors that punctuated the other dishes. (Another area for improvement is the sangria would benefit from the addition of fresh fruit). It started to get chilly towards the end of the evening, but fortunately, our table was conveniently located right next to a heat lamp. :) read more

There used to be a wait and crowds but came in on at 6 pm on a Friday; seated immediately after making a reservation online. Surprised it was not as packed as before. Food here to be honest is okay. Hmmm I've been eager to try El Techo for a long time now, and finally got the chance to have a dinner here with some friends. The restaurant itself is very nice, with some great views from the rooftop. I do with the heaters were a bit warmer, it was definitely very chilly when I went, even with the heaters and plastic tent. The service was good overall, and we started off with a pitcher of the Margarita El Techo (with tequila and mezcal) and it was great! Definitely a good bang for your buck. For food, we got the following: -Chips & Salsa (pretty standard) -Chips & Guac (better than average) -Platano Maduro (unique and tasty, but a bit pricey for what it is) -Pollo Frito (really tasty and I loved that it's boneless) -CHICHARRONES DE CARNE (super tender, but the flavor was lacking even when drenched in the sauce) Overall everything was tasty, but nothing wow'd me enough to want to come back immediately. Great bar with even better views! This rooftop bar has a great happy hour and are known for their margaritas. I've never gotten food here but the drinks are always good and the service is very good as well. The spot is in the heart of the mission and gives you great views of the city. I was pleasantly surprised at how cool this rooftop restaurant is! We went on Saturday for brunch around noon, from what we heard from another guest, it is usually very busy! They said maybe since it was the holiday weekend it wasn't too bad. You check in with the host outside and you follow the hallway to the elevator to take you to the rooftop. We were kindly welcomed in and were seated, I thought it would be chilly up there but they have heat lamps which I appreciated! Our server was very kind and attentive, we ordered our drinks. Lemonade was delicious. Chips and guacamole were so good! We also got to try the yuca frita and the platano maduro. Both were delicious. The yuca frita comes with an aioli sauce and a lime wedge. I tried it with just the sauce and soon realized the lime wedge was there for a reason, it makes it that much tastier! The platano maduro was a surprise to me because I have never had them with chili. It isn't super spicy either it is just right. I enjoyed those! I ordered the half pound of chicharrones de carne and those were amazing! I loved how crispy they were on the outside but so tender when you bite into them. The flavor is so unique and so delicious. You get a side of sauce, beans, and house made tortillas. My husband ordered the blue corn huarache which he said was tasty. Both are very generous portions. I ended up asking for a box to go since I was full! No way I was going to leave the chicharrones behind. It is definitely a great spot to hang out with friends, or even go on a date. Good music and there was a family with their little ones. So I totally appreciate restaurants that are kid friendly because I myself have a toddler. We Uber instead of driving since I am not familiar with the area and how safe it is. My friend ordered 1.5 lb chicharrones de carne and I ordered 1/2 lb. El Techo!!!! Such a cute spot with great views. It's a rooftop outdoor ambiance. During cold days it is covered to block air and heaters are on which help. Parking especially in San Francisco can be a bit of a headache but this gem is only 1.5 blocks away from a parking structure. This truly eases the pain of finding parking far away. Staff is amazing and very attentive. The Menu is simple and few options only which is good to just not overwhelm you with several meals. This is a multiple latin cultural cuisine which you will have a bit of everything. I ordered their fruta fresca which is a mix of watermelon, mango and pineaple covered in chamoy and tajin. Defenitely 9/10 I ordered a Huarache i did not add eggs but we substituted with asada beef. This was defenitely an 8/10 did need a bit more flavor and the meat did have some fat pieces. Tacos de carne asada 10/10 their homemade chile en vinagre was great addition and their green salsa that comes with it was delicious and not so spicy. Last but not least I did add a arroz con leche!!! BUT.... it's not your typical arroz con leche 10/10 I was mindblown and the creativity was everything. They made it basically with abuelita chocolate and defenitely had abuelita hot chocolate flavor with a mix of cinammon and piloncillo.... Overall clean, quick service, friendly, and good food. Seating is outdoors, but they do have sheltered, covered seating with heat lamps for chillier days. You place your order online and the staff bring the food to your table. We had some questions prior to ordering and found it difficult to get ahold of service. We ordered cocktails, elote, fried plantains, and a half-pound of the chicharrones (perfect to be shared by two!), which was plenty of food for the two of is. The chicharrones were cooked through with a crisp exterior, yet moist and buttery on the inside. Fried plantains were also a winner! If I were to order the elote again, I would ask for the cheese on the side because it got pretty messy eating. Let's just say cheese got everywhere lol. Happy hour menu is limited but if you're just looking for some light bites, they have happy hour on weekdays from 4-6PM. Plus, could always add on more of the heartier dishes if needed. First off, beautiful rooftop views, especially from the vantage point at which we were standing (there are standing and sitting "seating" options). Second, the service is prompt and helpful, if a bit harried with the busy flow of customers on the day we visited. Then there was the food. I must first pay proper respects to the piña colada. It was the best piña colada, in fact, that I have ever had the pleasure of trying. Blended perfectly, a hint of cinnamon, tasteful presentation... Delicious. Highly recommend ordering it! The Paloma was also quite nice. Onto the "bocaditos," or bites of food. The guacamole was juicy, flavorful, wow. Crumbles of cotija cheese on top, thick and crispy chips... top tier guac. Came here with a large group and it was really crowded/popular on a Saturday night. Ambiance is great on the rooftop and they do a great job of keeping the heat lamps on as it can get chilly at night, even in the summer. I was really impressed by how quickly the food came out - within 10 minutes of ordering. All the food was really good, but special shout out to the chicharrones which had super tender and flavorful meat, and the pork belly sandwich I got which was also really flavorful. The kale salad was incredibly yummy and filling with the corn, seeds, and avocado. The chunks of pork shoulder were deliciously crisp, meaty, and rich. Well-seasoned with the salsa and escabeche (pickled veggies) cutting through the heaviness. More reminiscent of carnitas since there was no attached skin with fat. The frijoles molidos (refried beans) were tasty but watery. The handmade corn tortillas were OOOF. They were stiff frisbees with the chew of a rubberband. The was a layer of oil between each one so they were greasy on one side. If they sourced tortillas from nearby La Palma, it would make a hella bomb taco. S E R V I C E Our server, Megan, the food runners, and busboys were great! Super friendly and prompt. The rooftop is covered with wind shields and heat lamps so it was pretty comfortable but def bring a warm coat. There's two dining areas with a more functional dining area with each table separated by partial walls. Kinda felt like VIP cubbies. I'm glad we were seated there; it was quieter compared to the main area. Two restrooms at the rooftop. P A R K I N G Difficult street parking but there's a garage around the corner at Mission-Bartlett (21st and Bartlett); $2/hour until 6 pm, $5/hour after 6 pm. Overall, I enjoyed HH at El Techo even though some of the food felt like an afterthought. But, that's usually the case with rooftop bars. You're there to get your drank on!
