I am giving it 4 stars because it looks awesome & satisfies my curiosity. Maybe not my hubby's. There is no wi-fi coverage here. Hubby thought we would stumble on a big compound, off the grid, where lots of cars are. He has heard of it and is very curious. He said it's secret. Lucky for him, the X Files has just returned to TV. Perhaps that show will somewhat satisfy his need to know that ... "The truth is out there."

You'll want to learn the phrase "algae sauce" because barn manager insists that Algae Sauce "is normal and that horses love it!" Coincidently, Algae Sauce also hides dead rat I found in my horses water. When I notified management about the second rat, found in horses hay, Kristy called me nasty names in what one can only hope was an alcohol induced rant. She, straight sober, tried to convince me that my pasture horse would thrive without fresh water, with two flakes of cheap hay, provided at random times on most days. Many many times, I would find that they had not fed or only provided a fraction of the portions that were promised. Pasture horses are expected to fight the herd stallion (Krusty's retired horse) for access to water. At one point, I found the tap to the water trough had come apart. Management promised it would be repaired the next day. Four days later, I checked the trough. It was DRY. It had not been fixed. It was 98-100 degrees for those days. My young horse had NO water for at least two of those days. Another horse died from colic three days later. Yes, the ranch is pretty and yes they have a covered arena. But, if they can't deliver fresh water and food, what's the point? Boarders are subjected to price gouging (+$200, monthly for 1cube/week of bedding and you must "subscribe" for a minimum of 6 months) to make up for manager's bad business practices. I'm embarrassed to tell people I boarded my horses here. See photos!

Leo the ranch hand really cares about the horses and is hard working as well as Karisa the Manager who is willing to go the extra mile for your horse. The ranch itself is such a wonderful peaceful place that i know when it comes time for my daughter to own a horse we will be boarding it at LionHeart. The place is kept very clean and the guys that work there are very kind. My complaint with the place is the fact that many of the horses are ill-tempered - making walking down the aisle in the paddocks extremely dangerous. The cobblestones are very hazardous when wet and the prices are a bit on the extreme side for your average horse-crazy aficionado. The plus is that they have a large covered arena and round pen. The turn out areas are well groomed and their parking lot is capacious. My hope would be to encourage the management to insist on ground work with the aggressive boarders. Also, the one clinic I attended that Lionheart sponsored was a total waste of time and money given the fact that I was only leasing the horse at the time. Lastly, my hubby and I attended their Halloween celebration and weren't told in advance about the price for lunch/parking. One of the barn dogs got into a fight with one of the guests that brought their pugilistic canine and I had to separate them before it got ugly - because no one else was intervening! So...there it is...the good, bad and ugly of my experience at Lionheart.

The first…read moretime I came here they didn't have the brand of shavings I usually get, and when I went to consider the brand they had instead it turned out they were plumb out. So I didn't come back for a while. Now I come here when my regular store doesn't have good Orchard hay. Ojai Valley Feed usually does. I've gotten good hay from them, though their hay is on a dirt lot so last time it was dragged across dirt before going into my truck. Maybe doesn't matter if you're tossing it for cattle or horses? But I'm feeding guinea pigs so I'd rather it not be dusty. I get it though, it's a feed store. I guess that's just the reason they're not my #1 go to for the hay and rather my #2. Prices are fair for the area. I like the guy who seems to own/run the place. He's super nice. The younger employees are fine but not enthusiastic. One time I visited and it was only the younger folks taking care of the store. I inquired about the fresh chicken eggs I'd seen here on Yelp and I was told pretty flatly that "Oh, you have to be on a list," and that was that. I felt totally shut down and felt the employee missed an opportunity to engage me as a customer, maybe ask if I wanted to be on the list, or tell me what the process to get on the list was (is there a time they expect to add new names to the list??) That's the only downside. Shop is small, but I was also super happy to see they sell feeder animals like crickets, mice and rats. I had just paid for a $60 purchase and realized I really needed 2 crickets. The shopkeeper gave them to me no charge. I know they're cheap but he didn't have to do that and I really appreciated it!

As a professional horsewoman, who owned my own boarding business, Larry and Jodie do the best job of anyone I know. I have boarded up to 15 horse's at a time, in the area at various stables. They are caring, concerned, honest, hard working and extremely knowledge people! Larry was a professional farrier, which means he did both barefoot trimming and shoes. He has profound knowledge of the horse's hoof, how they move and the various reasons for lameness. The stable is very well run and I have never boarded any where in Ventura County that gave such excellent care and run by more caring, warm, wonderful, "good" people. Honest. Unlike most of the boarding stables in Ojai and Ventura. The salt of the earth! I have owned and ran my own stable, where I cared for very expensive horse's owned by several Sheiks in the Middle East. I have been nominated 4 times for World Cup Teams, trained 2 of the youngest riders to ever make an Olympic team, I am a FEI Silver Medalist, trained a Bronze Medalist for Australia, as well as numerous National Championships. I also have a BS degree in Animal Science from UC Davis and currently work for several large Medical Companies developing new medical devices for horse's! They offer many different feeding programs. They have several arenas. They have great, large pens and offer lunch! You can not beat the care of your horse or the incredible trail system! You can ride 1000's of miles off the property on National forest and park trails. See you soon!
