I recently moved down to Ventura County from Sonoma County within the last year. My regular DVM helps maintain my horses regular care, as she splits her time between both parts of California. She had recommended Liskey for emergency care, which I recently had to contact him regarding a laceration on my pony's canon bone that needed sutures. He arrived in a timely manner and was initially friendly, though he very quickly changed and set the tone by verbally acosting me about my emergency care being a "favor" he was doing me, and then rolling into a rant about his personal and incredibly hateful feelings towards my regular vet. It wasn't even three minutes into the interaction before he said, "I wouldn't recommend your vet if she was standing in front of me with all of her clothes off!". This was also stated in front of both a student and client of mine. It was incredibly inappropriate, demeaning, sexist, unprofessional, and a complete assault of character on my vet, who has been an incredibly loyal and outstanding care provider for my entire herd of horses for the last four years. I immediately felt his aggression, attitude, and vendetta made him an unqualified individual to provide care for my animals. I did not trust him to do the job and would not stand to let someone with such an attitude provide care for my clients horsed either. I immediately dismissed him from the call and had a different vet tend to the emergency. This was an incredibly disappointing interaction that left me with a poor taste in my mouth for Liskey's bed side manners and professionalism. It also came at a shock to my regular vet, who had given her recommendation of his care to me. He may be good with his work normally (which I wouldn't know), but his attitude, professionalism, and bed side manners are obviously not his forte, at least this time. read more

Dr. Liskey is the most honest, straight forward, down to earth, no BS large animal vet in LA or Ventura county. Seriously he is someone you can trust to do what is needed without adding on services you don't. He is just one of the best, a true animal lover, and all around good humans. He is our first call for our horses and the most trusted among the many vets we have dealt with. We trust him completely with our horses. I can't recommend him enough. In this crazy screwed up world we live in today, I was able to find someone to restore my faith in humankind again! The pandemic has left me jobless, then homeless and practically penniless but I will not let go of my 2 horses I have had for 15 years and I will do whatever it takes to keep them. Recently I was taking care of a friends horse and had to call her vet, Dr. A A to come out and check on an infection in his ear. The day before my farrier had told me one of my horses had "canker" in his feet and I needed to get a special med right away so I planned to ask A.A. if she could prescribe or sell me the med and took a few pics of his feet. After she made me wait an hour while chatting with other people, she looked at my friends horse and said he was fine so I started to ask her about the canker med and brought up the pics on my phone. As she dismissed me with " Yes, call my office and make an appt, it will be around $300, she would not even glance at the picture!! I had to control myself but I'm sure the look I gave her said it all. I decided to email Dr. Liskey's office as his associate Dr. Kate Zacha was already my hero for saving my paints life last year when she came out on a Sunday and spent 5 hours cleaning and sewing up his bloody chest after a brand new saddle had broken and slid underneath him. No infection and it healed up so nicely you can't even tell he had 100 stitches! To my surprise, Dr. Liskeys office called me when they received my email and asked if I had any pictures! I sent them and they called me right away and said they would leave me the meds and I could pick them up at the doctors house! No charge, no hassle, just simply what you would hope to hear from a vet who actually cares more about the animals than your bank account! It is refreshing to know there are still people like Charlie Liskey and Kate Zacha in this world. As far as A. A. is concerned, she has obviously forgotten why she wanted to become a vet in the first place! What goes around........... read more

My wife and I have been local horse people in Ventura County for half our lives, and sought advice and treatment from many vets over that time. Dr. Zacha is among the, if not THE best doctor we've known. I don't say that lightly, and I take my reviews very seriously. She is extremely communicative, states facts which support her observations and diagnoses, and is very conservative with medications (she does not blindly throw pills and shots at every horse, as most vets seem to do lately). She came to see our older horse for a stiff leg, and she identified a condition accurately the first time, while two other vets had scratched heads and written prescriptions. To add to her attentiveness for the wellbeing of our horses, she came by for a follow-up visit without our having to ask! And last but not least, the fees are very reasonable. I met Dr Liskey while having routine shots, teeth floating. What a great vet! Having a horse that used to be boarded near the LAEC I've used a ton of different vets. Everyone down there has their favorite and to get smaller things done I've seen many others at random vet clinics. Dr Liskey is definitively rated among the top I've seen. He didn't try to sell me on unneeded tests even when I asked him if it was something I should think about. I got an honest, "Unless [.....], save your money." I really appreciate that honestly. Anyone that owns a horse knows saving money on a vet call is rare especially if you set yourself up asking about a test. & what a sense of humor. After making a silly Paint Horse joke and getting a good belly laugh out of him he had me in stitches, at a couple wild & funny vet stories. Not only a vet call but a comedy show too. Doc Charley Liskey has been my equine vet for a number of years. There are not enough words to describe his ability, bedside manner (both with horse and owner) and his incredible connection to the horses we love. His honesty and tell it like it is approach, perpetuates a trust like no other. A number of years ago, I had a mare that was suffering from Cushings and she was in the last stages. She was really in a bad way and Doc Charley came out on Christmas day without a thought for himself. He handled her distress, put her on medication. Two days later, he had to come back and sadly it was time. I could not have gotten through this without him. With Doc, the horses always come first. Wow, the reviews were right on the money. We had a problem with our horse that looked like Laminitis and called his office for the first time (because of the reviews in here). His office staff is friendly and extremely courteous on the phone. We were not able to see Dr. Liskey immediately, as his schedule was full for a couple of weeks (to be expected). But they were able to get us in the very next morning with Dr. Kate Zacha. We fell in love with her from the minute we met her. She was wonderful with our beloved horse, Dollar, and told us truthfully, but optimistically that we caught this thing very early, and he has a good chance for a positive outcome, if we make some very important changes with diet and supplements right away. Which we will do, no doubt. She did the hoof test, and brought the x-ray machine with her, so she was able to do a very thorough diagnosis on the spot. Unfortunately, she was having trouble with her truck this morning, but her office called us before the appointment time to let us know of the delay (which was greatly appreciated). I can say confidently that we will be using this vet for years to come!
