***** An Excellent Veterinary Practice ... Business operation is unique, a little quirky processes here and there ... but it all makes sense considering their building size. Dr Moore is a capable physician, who's engaged, enthusiastic and focused on providing high quality care for your pet. She's leading a well trained and capable veterinary practice team - who transition chatty (dog patient) parents (like me) with grace to make room for the next appointment. Shout out to Andrayyyyy ya ... We have an active 15-year-old golden, and 10-year-old mix ... and we are very happy customers here. The follow up and attention to detail are superb !!! .... Providing "retail" pet healthcare cannot be easy... And I appreciate this veterinary practice so much.

My female Eastern Box Turtle, MoonLight.

When I Googled vets that would even see my four turtles, only two came up. One was Dr. Moore and the other, a large animal hospital. Took the second one due to it being closer to my work, and my baby turtle paid the ultimate price due to being injected incorrectly. I took my three remaining turtles to Dr. Moore, who has been outstanding with them over the past five years. She and her staff are VERY knowledgeable about turtles. I highly recommend Dr. Moore for any pets, but my turtles have grown wonderfully under her care. They are the absolute BEST! I will never take my turtles anywhere else! They will be six years old this November, and I have no doubts about their health.

Love Dr. Moore and her staff. So glad to have an exotic vet to take care of my bearded dragons. She is very thorough and takes her time during the exam, and she is careful with her words and makes you feel like you are in the drivers seat with regard to your pets care. Staff are amazing, they were able to squeeze me in for an emergency visit when my girl was sick.

Cone of shame lol but she's okay!!

I called a few places to get my chiweenie seen for 2 abscesses on her rectum from the lack of her groomer not telling me they stopped expressing her glands. I called and they squeezed me in. Dr. Moore did a thorough exam on my dog and even checked for other things.treated her for an ear infection, her flea treatment and even checked her teeth(plague issues) I am SO SO SO happy with the treatment and care provided by the staff. Salem had surgery that SAME DAY! They even followed up with me multiple times to check on Salem to make sure she was okay. Although it's a bit of a drive for us since we're in Oxnard we've decided to make this clinic our new vet. We're very happy with the love and care provided by the staff. Thank you so much Dr and staff for taking care of my baby during a very stressful time

We just moved into the area in July and the first thing we did was find a vet for our 12 year old standard golden doodle. He was having some issues for a while before we moved but it wasn't until we found Dr. Moore. She got to the root of his issues. Unfortunately he required surgery but he made it through ok. We are now looking at some issues that older pup are bound to go through and this time is really hard for us. But from the moment we met Dr. Moore and her wonderful, caring staff we knew we were in the right place. It says a lot when your pup is excited to see them as much as they seem to want to see him. I would definitely recommend them and if we decide to add another pup to our lives that's where we will take them.

Oreo is to the right. We miss our sweet boy. Thank you, Dr. Moore, for your compassion and care.

I noticed my cat struggling to breathe Friday morning and brought her in around 5-6 am, there was no wait and they took her straight back to get her stable on oxygen. After an ultrasound they found a concerning mass and told me she needed to stay the night for observation and further testing, they weren't sure what was wrong and her condition was very critical. Dr Deegan was extremely thorough in her explanations of what could be wrong, what we should prepare for and i could tell she cared deeply about helping my cat. We left the office and waited for an update, which came very soon after. They had found the issue, a diaphragmatic hernia which had her stomach pushing into her chest cavity compressing her lungs and she needed immediate emergency surgery and medical transport to whatever hospital might be able to take her, and they estimated the bill could be upwards of 20k or more, plus the ambulance fees. We were shattered, we couldn't process and took some time to try to weigh options but the amount was just impossible, especially without any guarantee she would make it or insurance would cover it. Dr Deegan waited patiently for us to come to our decision, but continued to call back and let us know that we were running out of time, and most hospitals were closed for the weekend and soon her condition would be too unstable for her to be moved. Just as we had resigned to letting her go, she called us back with the most incredible offer: she was willing to try to perform the surgery herself at the clinic, saving us the transport and hospital bills and at a drastically reduced cost as it would be her first time and she would be learning from it. She told me she understood the theory and had seen it done, and i trusted her based on how engaged and caring she had been this entire process. Her boss also approved a payment plan for us, and they didn't ask for any further deposit to be put down, just to eliminate any delays to her getting treatment. Dr Deegan stayed almost 9 hours beyond her shift end to perform the surgery, and my baby is home recovering, eating normally and purring for pets only 3 days after i thought i was going to lose her forever. Absolutely mind blowing experience. In the end our costs were closer to 6-6.5k versus 20k+ . I just can't believe we got so lucky

Edited to add If you are concerned about patients maybe don't have cats and dogs in the same waiting room. And if you allowed owners to go back with their animals when they are examined they can soothe them. My cat was terrified after sitting in a waiting room with dogs for nearly 3 hours. He's never been around dogs before. And I could have calmed him or picked him up if the vet was too afraid. Yes you did offer to sedate him at a very high cost to me so he could be examined. He has never needed to be sedated at the vet before to be examined.

The staff at Oaks Veterinary were very kind to us and sat us in a semiprivate room up front while Dr. Jimenez did some tests on our kitten (he's 12, but he'll always be our kitten). The diagnosis was Feline Idiopathic Cystitis and we were sent home with a variety of medicines, some cans of prescription urinary care food, and orders to follow up with our primary vet in about a week for more tests. Everything was pretty pricey at $1700, so I appreciated that they gave us the cans of food for free (which our primary vet didn't do when we eventually followed up). They also sent the records over to our primary vet, which I appreciated. I had to follow up with the office staff about getting copies of the records for myself and, when I reached out with concern about how long it should be taking Atticus to recover, it took about 5 days to get back to me. Those are the only reasons it's not 5 stars. Lots of parking and food places nearby if you need to wait.

I asked if it was possible to do the single view, as I've done for years with the other doctor. Cody responded by saying I am not a doctor and that if I wasn't happy, I could go somewhere else. We were out of town and our cat was breathing abnormally. Our pet sitter brought him in and the team promptly identified the issue, treated him, and patiently explained every detail of the process to us to make us feel as comfortable as possible with them treating our baby without being there. We were able to pay remotely and got all of our questions answered right away. They made the situation as easy as they possibly could! 2. Last night, we had a very scary experience with our dog. We brought him in right away, and the team gathered information from us efficiently to take care of him as quickly as possible. He was very uncomfortable due to the nature of his illness, and the employees clearly made his comfort and care their utmost priority. While caring for him, employees even offered refreshments and a blanket for us, since it was the middle of the night, to try to keep us comfortable. The people at this location took their time assessing him and discussed the case with us at length to ensure we were all on the same page before following through on the plan of care. Vets, vet techs, and front desk personnel all worked in unison to make the difficult situation a little more bearable. Two vets ended up assessing our dog in an abundance of caution to ensure that the right decisions were being made for him and our family. I really truly appreciate medical professionals who work effectively and cohesively to ensure the highest quality of treatment is provided. Both vets spoke with us individually and patiently explained everything to us. In fact, the night shift vet even offered me gloves and invited me to feel a piece of concerning tissue to ensure my complete understanding. While this may not work for everyone, the vet knew that I myself am a medical professional and it was so kind of her to offer this to me as part of my education and understanding of the situation. I really appreciated this opportunity, as it will help me to understand his baseline and continue to reassess the problematic area as we treat. To me, this attention to detail and empathy from the night shift veterinarian went above and beyond what I would have expected from anyone at approximately 2am. Today, the day shift veterinarian also went above and beyond. The treatment process for our dog is going to be extensive, which understandably comes with a price tag. She took the time to research the cheapest options for us to fill our prescriptions (Chewy vs. pharmacy, etc). Seriously, WOW! That was so kind of her to do for us as we navigate this difficult time for our family. Since our dog requires upwards of 7+ medications in the near future, this was so helpful and really helped to set us up for success. Our dog will be undergoing treatment for 20+ weeks, and the veterinarian on shift took additional steps and time out of her day to make this more financially doable for us. To summarize, we are truly so grateful for the compassion and quality of care that a cat and a dog of ours received at this location. We would 100% recommend them. I wish I could do more for all the people who took care of both Weasley and Haze for us. They are amazing people and we are immensely grateful! Thank you all!!!

Rats are wonderful pets, but their lifespan is short, and they're prone to tumors. Apricot had developed a mammary tumor a few months prior and was nearly two years old. It was clear she was in distress, and we felt the most humane choice was to end her suffering. We assumed nothing would be open on a holiday, but I called VEG after remembering their location next to the Vons I visit. The receptionist was kind and told us to come in right away for euthanasia. When we arrived, the large main treatment area was focused on a critical case involving a Labrador, with a family gathered nearby. There were comfortable couches in a waiting area with plenty of room. We were placed in a private room to wait, which was thoughtfully designed to feel calm and comforting. It had soft lighting, gentle music, electric candles, a fragrance diffuser, and even a memory book where we wrote about Apricot while we waited. It was sweet to read what others had written too. That space made a difficult moment more manageable. Over about 45 minutes, staff checked in on us regularly, offering water and explaining the process. Once available, the doctor discussed euthanasia options. Unlike our regular vet, who uses gas, they explained that they prefer intravenous injection for a more controlled and peaceful passing. However, due to Apricot's size and likely dehydration, accessing a vein was extremely difficult. Multiple staff members attempted carefully to find one in her tail, but it was understandably challenging. The remaining option was an intracardiac injection--a needle through her chest into the heart. Apricot was already minimally responsive, and we agreed to proceed. I stepped out, while my husband stayed with her. He said she reacted briefly but passed almost immediately. This wasn't an easy experience, but the staff handled it with honesty, patience, and respect. They kept us informed at every step and treated both us and Apricot with dignity, never once making us feel like she was "just a rat". A few days later, we received a sympathy card signed by what looked like the entire team. That unexpected gesture meant a great deal to our family. With all the pets over my lifetime and all the euthanasia we've had for them, never once did a vet send us a sympathy card. We expected a high emergency holiday cost, especially given the circumstances, but the total was about $200, only slightly more than our regular vet. While euthanasia for small animals like rats can be technically difficult, we're grateful VEG was available when we needed immediate help. Everyone, from receptionist to vet tech to nurse to doctor was kind and gentle. I would return for future care, especially in urgent situations.

The facility is incredibly clean and modern, and every staff member we interacted with was professional, knowledgeable, and genuinely kind. They took their time answering all of my questions and clearly explained my options without any pressure- outlining both the minimum recommended testing and additional tests purely for reassurance. Lab work revealed mild pancreatitis. Bentley received fluids and anti-nausea medication, and we went home with antibiotics, digestive support, and prescription food to support his recovery. I left feeling confident that he was truly cared for from every angle. While the visit was more expensive than I initially expected, it was absolutely worth it. I walked out with answers, clarity, and peace of mind- and I would not hesitate to bring Bentley back here again.

So annoyed at that Urgent Veterinary Care technician and management team. I have a feral cat who…read morehad a bloody external ear wound with alopecia. Without running any tests the vet came back and said it might be cancer. I acknowledged that may be the case but thought it was alarmist and premature to say that. The technician came back after cleaning the ear up to say they at this point they do agree it's a wound with possible infection, not cancer. Although they wanted to meet with me to go over the treatment and meds before I left, they forgot to put an antibiotic medicine dispenser in my bag, and three separate times I had to remind them to go back and give my (feral) cat his first dose of antibiotics, and flea meds, and remind them again to check for worms. They also forgot to give me topical antiseptic pads so I can clean the wound. I think they are training young interns who have no idea what they are doing.

The worst possible circumstances brought us to VCA. Our dog, Sparty, became critically ill very…read moresuddenly, and we didn't know what was wrong. From the beginning, the staff was kind, direct, and compassionate. They clearly explained the treatment plan and costs, worked with us financially when they didn't have to, and kept us updated with honesty and care throughout his stay. Unfortunately, despite their best efforts, our baby passed away. The compassion shown to us during such an impossible moment meant more than we can express. In the week following his passing, we've been deep in the normal grief process -- second-guessing decisions and replaying everything in our minds. When I checked the mail and found a condolence card from VCA, signed with thoughtful, beautiful messages from the staff, it brought a sense of peace I didn't expect. It helped quiet some of that worry and reminded me that even when we couldn't be there, Sparty was cared for and treated with love. Thank you so much to everyone at VCA for everything you did -- and for taking care of our baby when we couldn't.

The staff immediately sensed my panic and, instead of being compassionate, they preyed on my fear to push expensive, unnecessary treatments. They prescribed oral antibiotics instead of giving an injection, even though they knew (and admitted) that oral meds would take significantly longer--hours to days--to reach effective levels in her system. Then, in the very next breath, they pressured me hard to hospitalize her overnight for "close monitoring," claiming it was critical because she was "so sick." They conveniently failed to mention that the very medication they chose to give her wouldn't even start working properly during the time they wanted to keep her admitted. It felt like a blatant setup to rack up a huge overnight bill. I trusted them in a moment of desperation, and they exploited that trust without hesitation. My dog suffered longer than necessary because of their decision to go the slow route on purpose, and then they tried to scare me into an expensive hospitalization that wouldn't have even addressed the delay they created. The lack of transparency, the manipulative upselling, and the complete disregard for my dog's actual wellbeing left me horrified and heartbroken. This wasn't veterinary care; it felt like a calculated money grab. I will never step foot in a VCA again, and I'm in the process of filing complaints with the California Veterinary Medical Board, the Los Angeles County Department of Consumer and Business Affairs, the Better Business Bureau, and every other consumer protection agency I can find. If you care about your pet at all, do yourself a favor and go anywhere else. Avoid VCA at all costs.
