Incredibly grateful to have found these guys. Our rottie is 5.5 years old and has always been weary of strangers. So finding a place to board him was a challenge when we moved to Ventura. Thankfully they gave him a chance and we couldn't be happier. In fact, I think it's been a key role in his behavior lately. I've been much less concerned while taking him out to chase ball at the park when strangers ask to greet him. And he's been noticeably more laid back about strangers coming up to him. I admit, there could be a number of factors that are contributing to this better behavior, but thought I'd share. They've also been great about my MANY last minute changes to boarding him longer or shorter than expected -- they work with you. My shadow loves to visit them he goes maybe twice a month or more. There are so good with Him. He takes allergery medication which they give it to him I am very pleased very happy fur baby. Bowie, my Blue Boston Terrier, was 3.5 months old and we had to leave for weekend away to family wedding. I was scared to leave him as he was so young but I visited beforehand and liked the vibe. Bowie did wonderfully and was soooo happy. He also learned to interact socially with other dogs and it was like dropping my child off at summer camp. I will definitely bring Bowie back! read more

DO NOT GO HERE!!!!!!!!! Their chain link fence doesn't go to the ground, so my dog almost died because she was trying to get under it and it could have slit her neck open. The owner was the rudest, most unprofessional person I have ever met. She sent my dogs away because they were nervous there for the first time, and would "require too much attention" for her. She insulted, me, my husband, and our dogs numerous times. I would rather send my dogs to be watched by preschoolers rather than a place this horrible. read more

In May 2023, we had a bad situation occur at the Ventura Dog Ranch, and we have written to the Owner and will keep you patrons posted about what the Owner does to resolve this situation. Our dog Brodie is just over 1 year old, and is an Old English Sheepdog/poodle. He has always loved going here and is a gentle giant and passive and loving. Everyone who works there always said for 1 year now that they love him and he is kindhearted. But now there is a red-headed young woman who they hired in the last months and she may be being abusive! The last time I went there, my Sheepdog and my mom's little poodle were both afraid of her and groveled low while leaving. She slipped up and said Brodie nipped at her when she "tried to pull him into a cage" in the middle of the day. What? A cage? Then she lied about this and that and claimed he is a biter. Good grief. The others said he is not a biter. I will let you readers know if the Owner investigates this new employee and talks with me about it...or ignores it. This place is the absolute best. They are the 4th doggie daycare in the area we've tried and we completely love everything about it. The staff and owner are so nice and really love the dogs. To be frank, I've always thought of doggy day care as entitled nonsense for people who overly indulged and anthropomorphized their dogs. That was before I brought home my dog from a rescue agency. How quickly our tunes change when our circumstances change. I had a last-minute need for dog boarding for two nights so I could attend business meetings in L.A. Mindy and the team at Ventura Highway were helpful, professional, and attentive. Their warmth and friendliness to my dog put her (and me) at ease immediately. When my meetings were cut short and I returned a night earlier than expected, Mindy credited me for that night. I'm thrilled that I was referred to Ventura Highway and highly recommend their services. read more

This review applies to day care, as we haven't used the overnight kennel service... Pros: Rarely a wait to talk to someone upon arrival. They even recognize your car and prepare for pickup or dropoff as applicable. Most of the staff we met seemed to truly like dogs, and be experienced -- even though they were all pretty young. Our submissive rescue dog has special needs, and these were accommodated well on almost every visit. He seemed to enjoy day care some days, and at the least, wasn't ever physically or emotionally worse off that we could tell. Cons: Staff will not allow owners to see where the dogs are actually kept ("liability"). They forgot to ask for shot records on the first visit, so we offered them. Day care offered Mon-Thurs only, and sometimes not around holidays. Pro or con depending on your view: The facility appears to be kept up well but is managed loosely -- very noncorporate mom & pop. They even have foster dogs hanging out while waiting for adoption. read more

We used Highway 101 last year when we needed our dog boarded last minute. Pros: We were very happy that they were able to fit us in with such short notice. The staff were really friendly. Our dog seemed very tired when he came home. Cons: When he came home he was filthy. I understand they play a lot but to let a dog go home that dirty doesn't seem right. They didn't ask us about any vaccinations or do to bring any but we brought ours so they can be kept on record. Our dog got kennel cough while being boarded. I know the bordetella vaccine can only cover so many strands of the virus but if they didn't ask for our vaccines who else came that had not been asked? Possibly another dog that maybe wasn't vaccinated at all. We are extremely picky so we weren't upset. We just felt bad for our dog that got pretty sick. They do have good rates. read more

I brought my two yorkie mixes here June7-9 2019. The staff was friendly and very concerned that my dogs had all their shots along with bordatella. I had to take them in to get the bordatella vaccine and they were given a clean bill of health by my vet. I left them on a Friday and by the following Monday my one dog had an open wound on her back from scratching all weekend. The wound was the size of a grapefruit. This place was infested with fleas. The clean blankets i brought were filthy dirty when i picked them up. My second dog was also infested while there and broke out a few days later. Extremely disappointed in this facility!!! read more

we love it because we feel so safe, from our view it's a maximum security lock down. Shay & Earl love it because they can play with all the other dogs and are free to roam the common yard and play or rest. the location is great, only 5 miles from the beach, enough to burn off the coastal gloom allowing Shay, who loves to lay in the sun, to not over heat. we also love that they can go out and play without having to pay for it. other places charge to leave the cage! worth the price. one day it'd be nice if they added web cams for us when we miss our dirty dogs. read more

Last year, after literally trying EVERYTHING for the 4th of July, we decided to board our dog, Shyla. I'm not going to lie, I was super nervous and held off a bit longer. Our area is a war zone around the 4th. I had to get my dog somwhere safe during this time and fast. I spoke to Carmen over at the Ventura Highway Luxury Boarding and she quickly put me at ease. She was friendly, energetic and answered the dozens of questions I had. So, we gave it a go. Not only did they let Shyla play but they also made sure she had plenty of exercise which helped with her anxiety. They made sure she played with other dogs she interacted well with and let me know I could call if I had any new questions or concerns. Another thing I really like was they sent me photos to ease my anxiety, and it was cool to see my dog on their instagram having fun. Carmen went through the meds with me and I trusted them to give Shyla her meds properly. I was checked in quickly, no hassle and the price is the best price around. When I picked Shyla up, they gave me an update on how she did during her stay, her schedule of last time for meds and meals. Very thorough. This year it was no question, we booked her again right away. When we arrived, Shyla remembered and couldnt wait to get inside. She also responded really well to Carmen and her team which made me even more comfortable. This is our go to for our boarding needs :) read more

This is by far the best boarding in Ventura. Our dogs Chili, Samson & Sophia are always excited when we drop them off and happy when we pick them up. I left my 5 month old puppy for his first boarding experience (5 days and 4 nights) this past week. Upon pickup, he was happy, healthy, and it was obvious he had an amazing time playing with the other dogs while I was away. I loved the pictures and video they sent to ease my worries. read more

My family members (both two and four legged) have enjoyed using Ventura Highway for many years. We are very confident in recommending it to neighbors and friends. The staff is very accommodating, and display a genuine interest in our pets' well-being. Our dogs were always excited to begin each stay, to the point that they would race from the car to the front door of the kennel, tails wagging in anticipation. We will continue to use Ventura Highway whenever we are out of town, knowing our pups are in good hands. :-) We used to enjoy receiving pictures of our dogs during their stay. I have been taking my dogs to Ventura Hwy for over 5 years. My dogs always come home tired and happy. The facility is clean and the dogs are paired up with canine friends of similar energy to play outside in the sunshine and fresh air. They love dogs and you can tell...everyone we have interacted with seems to enjoy their job and are quick to respond to calls or texts. Recently when we were on vacation and my daughter was missing her dog they sent us pictures and videos which calmed her worried mind. The prices are also very reasonable. Highly recommend! read more

My Doberman has been coming to Ventura Highway for quite a while now. She loves it! We use it primarily for overnight boarding and she runs from the car, excited to be here and play with her friends - both human and dog! She is always healthy and happy when I pick her up, too. The staff is so good! They really love these dogs. They spend time getting to know them, they understand the temperament of each dog and know who each dog will best play with. I woud not hesitate to refer anyone who needs to board their dogs or is in need of a day care facility. They are fantastic! read more

I love this place! My dog loves it too! When I bring him here to stay for a weekend or a week, he can't wait to "dump" me and go play with the other dogs! I can always rely on Mindy and her crew to take good care of my dog while I'm away. It's a great feeling to know he's in good hands. This is top of the line care for your dog! It's basically sleepaway camp for your pooch! The owners and staff here are amazing and truly love dogs. I always prefer that my dog be treated like kids more than livestock and it is obvious to anyone who brings their dogs here that they absolutely love it. They are meticulous about care which is important as my folks have an aging female queensland heeler with epilepsy and needs the TLC that these folks provide. VERY excellent! It's never easy for me to leave my dogs anywhere. Yes, I'm THAT kind of dog owner. But I also like to travel, and sometimes to places where my dogs can't come with me. So it's nice to have a kennel that I trust and that my dogs love. The staff at Ventura Highway are friendly and they always seem to remember my dogs. The place has several yards, and the dogs can play outside until they get tired. This is such a bonus, because I've used other kennels who charge extra for a short play time. Whenever I drop my dogs off, they eagerly run up to the door, and when I come pick them up, I see them out playing with other dogs. If they can't be with me, I'm happy to leave them here. read more

Spent 15 minutes on "hold" waiting for someone to help me. Their version of hold means setting the phone down on the counter making me listen to people talking, dogs barking, etc. In other words, they forgot I was even on the line. If they are this "attentive" with humans, I can't imagine how they treat their dogs. read more

What would we do without Mindy and her wonderful crew at Ventura Highway? I guess we could never travel anywhere for more than a day. Our black lab is part of our family so there's no way we could ever leave her at a place where she would just sit in a kennel all day. This is a great place and a hidden find! Took our dog there when dealing with my father's funeral arrangements. My boyfriend was in town with our pup, Sheela. She can be a handful but from the first moment she stepped in, she never looked back :) kept her for a day to test it out and felt very comfortable in leaving her for 4 days. Ventura Highway boarding is the only place I'll take my Boston Terrier, Xena the Warrior Princes. After several awful boarding and doggy daycare experiences, the staff at Ventura Highway works with Xenas temperament to place her with dogs that she gets along with. Prior to finding Highway boarding, I boarded Xena at a place in Camarillo and was headed out of the country for a week. Two days into my trip the boarding place dropped Xena off at a veterinarian office in Camarillo because my dog didn't get along with one of the dogs there. After receiving an email from my mother regarding the situation, I was able to get a friend in the States to pick her up. It was an extremely stressful time and has caused me to be very picky about who will watch my dog. Xena is a member of our family and I find great piece of mind knowing that she's in wonderful hands at Ventura Highway boarding. read more

We always take our pup here, and they always take great care of him. The staff is friendly, and always excited to see him! He's an active beagle, and is neurotic when it comes to tennis balls, and often incessant barking, but they welcome him regardless. They let the dogs out to play with one another, which is where they go when you drop them off, so we know that he is enjoying his stay, rather than being locked in a cage the entire time. I just want to say thank you to the team at VHLB. My dogs love it there. I have two small pets under 15lbs and they love it there. They come home fat and happy. Lots of room to run around and they are watched really well. I have one who is a poopy eater and she is treated with such care and watched because of her "bad" habit. I am thankful they are understanding. She is a wonderful kind dog, but has this one little bad habit :( We have left our pets here twice and have had a wonderful experience both times.
