The restaurant is advertised as Tex-Mex but the only hot sauce available was Tabasco plus something homemade for which they up-charged but lacked any flavor. Drinks were OK, but margaritas were made with a drink mix and not fresh lime juice. Had I been aware of these details, I would've chosen somewhere else to go for dinner. I'm honestly surprised at all of the rave reviews I read online....

The birria tacos had a strong cinnamon flavor we couldn't get past. That was all it tasted like and I just don't like beef that tastes like cinnamon. I did ask the bartender if they used it and she said yes they cook the beef with cinnamon stick and cardamon which gives it that flavor. I asked bc I thought maybe I just got a bad batch. Also we ordered the jalapeno queso, didn't like that either it had a bacon flavoring. The chips were also soaked in grease so they get chewy and a weird texture. The dessert was the saving grace being I was still so hungry bc I couldn't eat the other things. Dessert was great. I would just recommend trying something different else if you go. Or maybe adding the flavor profile on the menu so people are aware before ordering.

Every person that works at all these locations has always been friendly. I haven't dined in at the new one yet but from what I see they have a full bar and the ambience looks great. Their steak is always perfectly cooked, medium rare, juicy most and packed with flavor. All of their meat options are absolutely delicious. They are limited on the sauces they provide but I am so happy they are consistent throughout. I've had their burritos, their wings, their enchiladas their chicken you name it. You will always see me here as this will remain one of my consistent places to dine in or for take out.

We had perfect weather so sat outside on their patio, had a really lovely waitress taking our orders, and served up some pretty delicious food. I got the mahi mahi tacos and they were pretty great. Lots of fish and the verde salsa had so much flavor. I think the fish was just a bit overcooked, so I will probably try something else on my next visit, but still loved my meal. We got some churros for dessert and oooooh man they were good. Piping hot and filled with a caramel or dulce de leche sauce that was so tasty. Perfect cap to to a great meal. We'll be back! They have a large but awkward parking lot so valet is required - no charge, just of course to tip. We arrived on a Sunday around noon and IT WAS BUSY. The host was trying to seat guests and their two phones were ringing off the hook, but they did a good job managing the physical guests waiting And the calls. When we arrived, they ran out of outdoor seating but accommodated my husband and I at a four top table on the outside deck and even brought over an umbrella without us needing to ask. We ordered drinks, the empanaditas and the guac and chicharron. Everything was super delicious! We will definitely be back! Thank you, Lola's, for a wonderful experience - lunch with a STUNNING view!

The chips were fresh and salty, the way I like them, and the salsa was mild and tasty. I ordered the chicken fajitas and my wife ordered the veggie burrito. Neither one of our dishes disappointed. The fajitas were cooked fresh and served hot with soft shell tortillas. Plenty of chicken, beans, rice, and vegetables to stuff the tortillas. I even ordered more tortillas. The veggie burrito was huge and my wife brought the other half home and had it for lunch the next day. The prices were more than reasonable and the service was excellent and friendly. My husband put our name in for a party of four and gave his phone number for the text notification but the hostess accidentally entered us as a party of two. Thankfully, the table that was ready was large enough for four but it could have caused an issue. As a note, she remembered and realized she mistyped it and apologized immediately. Our waiter was friendly, though the service had a few hiccups. My chicken quesadilla (which I ordered as my entrée) came out well before everyone else's meals. When boxing leftovers, he asked whether I wanted the sides, sour cream, and salsa included. I said no, but when I opened the container the next day, everything had been packed together anyway. Food: The chicken quesadilla was delicious and generously filled with shredded chicken. Drinks: The frozen strawberry margarita was excellent. It was filled to the brim and stronger than what you typically get at a restaurant. Overall, I'm chalking the service issues up to it being a busy Saturday night. We'd still happily return to Jose Tejas whenever we're in the area.

The food is the reason I'm writing this review. Ordered the Cajun popcorn shrimp for appetizer and it was beyond salty. The sauce helped but the salt was the extent of the taste. My wife had the fish fajitas and I had the pulled chicken tacos for lunch with fries. The fries were over fried like chips but the pulled chicken tacos was downright not right there was a chicken pot outlets chicken with a taste to the chicken. I had one bite put it down and pushed the plate away. I was done. My wife ate some of her fajita with her comment being that it's was really spicy. I asked for the check. The waiter asked us for boxes. Seeing that we didn't eat the food we said we weren't taking anything. I told him to have someone check the chicken as it's not right and he said he would let them know. He came back with the check I paid the full check and again mentioned to the waiter that someone should really look into the chicken as someone will get sick and we left. My wife was upset as she was upset I paid the sill receipt but my point is the following. Reputable locations who take their businesses serious pay attention and monitor their patrons. Ultimately without them they don't have a business. Your representative taking care of us saw we barely touched the food if at all. This is not normal at an eating establishment and your only concern was that we didn't want to take the food home. Following my warning on the food there was no concern just collect your check and rip. Enjoy the hundred bucks we will never be back. Left a star as I couldn't post with none.

Upon arrival you'll receive complimentary chips and salsa. It was fresh as the chips were warm and I could taste the fresh ingredients in the salsa. We ordered the carne asada and the Baja tacos (and the enchiladas verdes to go based on hot good the food was). The carne asada was fantastic, and it came with rice, beans, and tortillas. The Baja tacos were delicious and came with a super spicy sauce (they did have a lot of onions which was my only drawback). We ended the night with a special strawberry tres leches for Valentine's Day. It's not something I would have typically ordered but I do love tres leches and this did not disappoint - it was amazing. All in all excellent food you'll be glad you came for the food! A few other notes- the inside of the restaurant is pretty and draws on what I've seen in other Mexican restaurants. Staff were so friendly and had the perfect balance of checking in with us to letting us eat our meal. There is a small bar area that is separate from the dining area. Street parking only but there seemed to be plenty of spots. However, I would try to park as close as possible to the restaurant as the neighborhood itself didn't seem like the greatest. We had no issues during our experience but just something to consider. Overall I really liked this place and will definitely return!
