Easily the best Mexican food in BCS. I have tried literally every place, there is no option better. They have a great mix of Tex-Mex dishes and a menu full of authentic Mexican dishes. Literally every one of my favorite Mexican foods can be found on this menu and I honestly have ordered almost the entire menu. Positives Selection, prices, portions, authenticity and taste. They literally have everything you want, it will come out cooked perfectly and arrive at your table quickly. AMAZING chips and salsa--- Literally I have licked it off almost anything Negatives Service, atmosphere (not a negative for me, but there are just lunch tables here) What You should get These days I get the Tex-Mex plate every time because it offers variety, large portions and different flavors. The chicken fajita quesadilla is literally one of the BEST things you will ever eat. The portion is large enough for you to save some for another meal and I eat a ton of food. If you aren't that hungry though, you might just get the beef and pork torta with a side of rice or two beef tacos with a side of rice. The carne guisada is great here also, you almost can't go wrong. If I had to choose one dish and I came here starving I would go with the Tex-Mex plate. Another solid three star Tex-Mex-Mex joint that is largely interchangeable with all the others. Divey atmosphere, crowds, slow service, refusal to customize orders, and coffee that tastes like sewer water are the downsides. The plus are excellent tacos...some of the best in town in fact. This place is great. Legit Mexican food. Not Tex-Mex, so I'm a big fan. When you walk up the windows are covered with signs and posters all in spanish. They make their own tortillas which makes such a big difference. The also give you two types of salsa a warm one and a cold one. We tried the Pozole, carne asada tacos, barbacoa and the ceviche toast. Everything was really great except the Ceviche toast, it really had no flavor. Will definitely be back. The packed parking lot should be your first clue. This is a fabulous taqueria in downtown Bryan on Texas Ave! You can sit down, or takeout, as you prefer. Legit, authentic Mexican food. Prices are very reasonable. During lunch they give you hot and cold salsa as well as queso Their rice and beans are the best I've ever had. Horchata is very good and served in a very large cup. The original one is in Bryan, if you want to go to the ghetto, but a nicer one is next to HEB on Bryan and Villa Maria. read more

I've gone here twice now for dinner over the last few months and it has been great both times. First time I had enchiladas with green sauce they were good not great but surely good. I went back yesterday and had the beef tongue and let me tell you it was fantastic a bit spicy but you can cut it a bit with the tomatoes and avocado slices man it was good. The staff is friendly and everything but not over the top service. Then again it's a little place probably family run so I'm not expecting 5 star service but they are friendly and can answer questions about the menu. All in all a great little find. Wish I could give 0 stars. My first and last time here!!!! Ordered cheese enchilada plate. Put the beans in my mouth and immediately spit them out. They were soured and scorched. Put a bite of enchilada in my mouth as I got the whiff of soured everything in it and immediately spit that out. Paid and got out of there as fast as I could. That was 4 1/2 hours ago and I still have that smell with me. Something I will never forget. It will be many many months before I will be able to eat Mex food again and it is what we eat every Tuesday but I cook it at home. There goes taco Tuesday for a long time. My advice to you is DONT EAT THERE. Oh and by the way it was 5pm on a Tuesday and we were the only folks in there. read more

If it was possible to give this place no stars I would. The waiting staff is absolutely horrible. All the waitresses were huddled in the back just talking. Meanwhile we were waiting to order. Our waitress was not attentive. We were there for over an hour before we finally got our food, and there were only 4 other people in there with us. The food was less than mediocre. This is an authentic Mexican restaurant! This is probably the only one in the area. Everything else is Tex-Mex, which is not bad but it is different from original Mexican food. When inside, you will see a lot of Mexicans eating there, which for me is a good sign of authentic food. The seats are slightly uncomfortable, but that is nothing. The restaurant is pretty crowded, and the tables are close to each other. Don't expect a lot of privacy there - that does sort of go together with the culture, which to me makes it even more authentic. What is good? Fajitas! Breakfast tacos- yumm! My favourite time is to come here for an authentic Mexican breakfast! It is not pricey, so just try it! You will not be disappointed. read more

I grew up on Tex-Mex, and this place is one of my favorites restaurants. No glamor here, but they do serve great cheap food. I went to A&M, and this was my wife and my favorite Mexican place when we were in school. When we are back in town, we always find a way to have a meal here. To me, a restaurant's salsa is very important. This place has two types, a cold one and a warm one, and both are outstanding. They have a very extensive menu with a picture of each item. It may be a little greasy for some, but I have never gotten food I didn't like. The service has always been good. Did I mention that it was cheap? Free queso at lunch time too. read more

If I could get it a 0 I would. I've had pretty good tacos/Mexican food since I'm from a border town but this is trash. First of no salsa verde? Also could see in the back there's store-bought tortillas and also store their chips in a trashcan. Took an hour to get my food. If you haven't been to El Sol De Mexico, you're missing out. This is one of the best Mexican food places in town; their carne asada is to die for! They also have the best nopalitos that I've had to date. Whatever you wind up ordering, expect good, authentic Mexican food at a reasonable price. No gringo food or Tex-Mex here! Pretty solid and fairly cheap restaurant. I would say they have a lot of tex mex plates and several more authentic mexican plates. You can try a coctel de camaron or some tacos they're less than 2 dollars a piece with cilantro and onions. I also like that they have a good variety of aguas frescas. Horchata, limonada, melon etc. I've only gone after the lunch rush and the food comes out fairly quick. If you choose to go between 12-1 and 6-7, good luck with finding a parking spot. read more

They close at 11 & we got here at 10:30, the first thing the server told us was that we couldn't eat inside & they were only taking take out orders. My boyfriend ordered the carne asada quesadilla with extra cheese & extra meat & the server said she couldn't do that. She was just rude overall. Food is inconsistent and service is horrible if you care to deal with waitresses that seemed to be trained to provide poor service. I have never seen a restaurant where a waitress cannot at least understand English and thus get your order correct. Also, all of their waitresses appear to be trained to ignore Customers so when they walk by your table, it is as if they intentionally turn their head instead of looking at your table to see if you need a drink refill or a chip and salsa refill. I tried to reach managers by phone and in person and I am always told that they are not there. When I call and leave my Phone # I ask for a call back and never hear from them. It is very frustrating because I have gotten a few authentic tasty dishes there but the service is consistently very poor. I would love to speak to a manager if they were ever available. This is one of the worst experiences I have had at a restaraunt if you can even call it that. It took over an hour to get our food and the place was not even crowded. I saw my waitress twice and to get the check I had to go ask someone else for it. I saw her just standing in the back doing nothing. She was extremely rude and unaccomadating ...I wish I would've caught her name so I could report her. She should be fired. Everyone there was also very rude. Went for dinner with family this evening and asked for my usual cheese enchiladas. When my plate was brought I was immediately hit with the smell of dirty sweaty gym socks. I smelled my plate and kept getting the smell, I asked my family to smell my plate just to be sure, and they all said the same thing. I called the waiter and told him, he smiled, looked at me like I was crazy and didnt know what I was talking about. When we went to pay the cashier apologized and told us that the cheese was badly spoiled. The steaks my parents had also had a slight spoiled taste and were super dry and tough. Apparently no one there cares or checks the food and are allowing the cooks to use spoiled food. No telling how long this has been going on, or why the health dept isnt keeping up with their responsibilities, but I will never again return . read more

I am in Bryan/College Station on business so looked for a Mexican Restaurant to try. This one had good reviews. If it weren't! For the reviews, I would not have tried it as it looks like a "dive". But I decided to be brave and give it a shot. Glad I did! Prices were great, 2 salsas were delicious- one cold and fresh and one warm. My beef enchiladas were fresh and very hot and good rice and beans. The meal came with homemade guacamole which was made perfectly.
