I ate at El Sabor last week on Friday night. The food was decent (cheese sauce was particularly good), however, the service was outrageous. When I first arrived, the wait staff seemed reluctant to have my friends and me. By the end of the meal, we were eager to leave! When the bill came back with additional charges, the waiter said there was nothing he could do and walked away. What shocked me was when I asked for a manager to handle the situation, the guy who claimed to be the GM approached me in a hostile manner and told me the charges were final. The first red flag is that there was no host. We had to choose a table and waited a long time to be served. Once we ordered, we waited a long time as each plate came out. What good San Diegan wouldn't feel the pull to a Mexican restaurant after two days of being away? Yeah, that's what I thought. Add to that the fact that the prices are ACTUALLY SEMI REASONABLE (in Vail, this is an instant win) and it was a stone's throw from the Marriott and I was there. I ordered the snapper, which came in at $19. Yes, expensive, but they aren't exactly going to find snapper on their own at 11,000 feet. Fair enough, I thought, especially since I don't eat poultry or meat any more. Otherwise I probably would've stuck with the a la carte menu. Anyway, back to the snapper. It was HUGE! The fish was a little enthusiastically charred, but once I removed the overly crispy bits it was yummy, and it came with nice, snappy, lemony asparagus and rice and beans. Very tasty! The guac and chips weren't too much to write home about, but again, this is a place where it's hard to find the stuff that makes good guac. My little sister liked her quesadilla, and the service was very attentive. They looked like they had some really yummy margaritas, so all of you fellow tequila junkies can get your fix here. Rating is adjusted for location--in San Diego this likely would've received a three. But for Vail, it was something refreshing, and I had a lovely time here--I will probably be back tomorrow for breakfast! read more

Just finished dinner here. Was really blown away. First off, let me mention that this is Vail, and not a mexican village, mexican town, or NYC... If this place was in my hometown I'd probably give it 4/5, but for Vail it's as good as it gets. Chips are solid, very thick and fresh. The other mexican place I reviewed in vail sucks compared to El Sabor. Guacamole was very good as well. I had the Tres Chiles and it was excellent. Was served on a very hot plate, and had great flavor and kick. They make their own hot salsa which is very very good! My wife had the kitchen burrito, and it looked pretty standard (typical tex-mex); she was happy. My mom ordered the Chicken Enchiladas and she loved the chicken. It was moist and has a great flavor. The chicken seemed to be pressure cooked but we weren't sure. Location is really nice. We sat at a corner table and had a view of the gondola and mountain. I would strongly recommend to anyone visiting Vail. Prices are great as well and they do run dinner specials. The interior is nice, quality tables and chairs. The bar is nice, good space and feel overall. There is a patio which I'm sure it's nice when it's not 10 degrees outside. Again, this place definitely has a 5 star location and considering it's vail it's 5/5 food considering value/quality/etc. If this place was in my hometown it would still be a 4/5 and honestly it beats out most of the mexican places at home except for the authentic mexican dive spots. I don't even think it was warm It was like last night's rotisserie chicken Trio Taco, one asada, one pork, one chicken- the only good taco on this plate was the pork. A very nice venue to grab some good Mexican food that isn't overly priced in pricey Vail, Colorado. Service was great, and food was excellent. I want to say this had to be the most horrified I've been ever. This service was great but as I was finishing up my food, a roach crawled across my table. The manager did nothing to rectify, she just apologize and said the construction was the cause of the roaches. El Sabor is a great place to grab a breakfast burrito before heading up the slopes as well as ABSOLUTELY AMAZING Elote! We have had lot of Elote in our time and their Elote was superb! Hard to not get top ratings on Mexican in my mind but this just wasn't that good. And definitely overpriced.

Cute place to eat before getting on the lift. They start you off with Mimosa's or what I got: Bloody Maria that had tequila instead of vodka. Very tasty! Had the Huevos Ranchero. Had a lot of black beans...almost too many. The egg was cooked perfectly, as well as the chorizo. Beautiful view. Can only imagine what it looks like at night!!! read more

A great surprise for those staying in Lionshead is El Sabor. I recommend going. My wife has the Mahi Tacos and she loved them. I had the shrimp fajitas and the shrimp was grilled to perfection and the sides (cheese, grilled veggies, sour cream, and guac) were -great. The Margherita's are excellent. The entire place is very casual..great for families and just low down good food. One suggestion: The Guac should be prepared fresh...it is really average and if the chef and servers would make it fresh per serving, it would make a huge difference. Same with the salsa...its clearly from a bottle. Make it fresh. But aside from that....its a good spot. read more

The food here is really tasty and perfect for a no-frills evening out with a big group in Vail. Yes it is not the most gourmet Mexican food out there, but if you're looking for a spot that you can escape the whopping price tags of this mountain town for a night (again, especially if you're with family/a group), then this is a solid option. Well-- we uncovered the mystery! We were shocked to find, on a Saturday night, before the 4th of July, in Vail-- not only no wait at this restaurant, but also a mostly empty dining room! We had to BEG to spend our $$ in here! It took 15 minutes before a waiter wandered over to greet us. By that time we had made our selections for the whole meal. He seemed surprised that we were a little put out. The food is better than decent and the drinks are really good. Nice menu, too. A beautiful view to boot! Great food and better service. Wow! I had a hand squeezed fresh Patron Perfect margarita that took my mind right to sunbathing on a sandy beach in the Yucatán peninsula. This place is great! The view from the deck and dining room is perfect for aprés! Food was alright, but we had this waiter who was a complete punk. He had a terrible mustache and brought me my food which was incredibly not what I ordered but refused to take it back. Waiter and server were great but the manager was terrible. He tried to tell all of us there was no alcohol left when we were all sober. We go to the bar and ask and he says of course we have alcohol. Very friendly, explained/had suggestions about the menu, answered all our questions and was attentive. I felt the pricing was fair considering where we were and the food was excellent. Very fresh. Great spot for breakfast at the base of the mountain in Lionshead. Very reasonable prices and a diverse menu. We went here two days in a row for breakfast on a holiday weekend-no wait! Mimosas were good both days. I had the breakfast quesadillas one day and the huevos benedicto day two, both with chorizo. I recommend the breakfast quesadillas over the huevos benedictos. My boyfriend had the French toast day one and the pancakes day two-he said both were equally good. I tried the pancakes, and they were delicious - very fluffy! read more

Can't rate food because we were asked to leave before I could order dinner. I have never experienced anything like this at any restaurant. A group of about 30 adults came in around 4 to have drinks and eventually grab a bite to eat. After about an hour of drinking we were asked to leave because they needed our table for a reservation of 20 people coming in. At this point we were the only people in the restaurant, so there were plenty or other open tables. We told them we were ordering food, but they told us we couldn't. This was very unprofessional. I have never heard of kicking out paying customers. Big mistake! We will not return. read more

Located next to the base of the Eagle Bahn gondola in Lions Square, this Latin-style restaurant sports a fantastic scenic view of Vail mountain and overlooks the heated pool below, There's also a full bar here so you can kick back and relax. We came for lunch and the proportions were awfully generous to say the least. The burritos are excellent. The iced tea, however, tasted like watered coffee as it was immediately apparent they used the wrong filter. When we brought this to the attention of the owner/manager he was very pleasant and acknowledged that we weren't the first to complain about the coffee flavor (apparently the grounds had become trapped in the spouts and still lingered) and that he just wasn't going to serve iced tea anymore but really just have the spouts thoroughly cleaned and sanitized and you're good to go. I'd definitely eat here again, but maybe next time hold the iced tea. read more

The people who have left prior reviews over 1 star must be the employees of the restaurant. If there was an option for 0 stars, that's what I would rate it. I've never written a review before, but we chose this restaurant based on Yelp reviews...Unfortunately. First, we sat ourselves at a table by the window. We were one of two occupied tables in the entire restaurant (this should have been a sign) at 7:00 p.m. We ordered chips and guacamole. Instead, the waiter brought us chips and salsa (another sign). For dinner, our party of 3 ordered carne asada enchiladas, chicken enchiladas, and chicken tacos. This was BY FAR the WORST Mexican food I have EVER had anywhere. The "carne asada" and chicken looked and tasted like it had been prepared at 8:00 a.m. and warmed up several times throughout the day before it was put on our plates. The chicken tasted like plastic. I was not brave enough to try the carne asada, but my dad, who was starving, took two bites and stopped eating. The refried beans were hard, stuck to the plate, and therefore inedible. The rice was even worse. All of the employees are teenagers. They have no idea what they are doing, and they certainly have never looked at the menu. We had questions before ordering, such as "does the meal come with white rice or yellow rice?" The response from our waiter was, and I quote: "It's more of a reddish brown." Great! PLEASE do yourself a favor and skip this place. Take the 10 minute drive to Edwards, CO and eat at Fiestas. The food is considerably better. read more

I had the Chicken Mole which had great flavor, a little spicy & generous portion. My husband had the Chicken Fajitas which he really enjoyed (except for the rice & beans) & the Relleno also very good. I did not enjoy the Cactus salad, the texture was bad, taste unremarkable & it was served on a huge portion of lettuce, not good. With a few tweaks this restaurant could be good. read more

The food was great and the price is very reasonable. We had great service as well. Although the chips and salsa are not free, they are worth the $5. They have refilled out chips and the green salsa is very good. We also shared the steak fajitas. The meat was fantastic. It was well seasoned, very tender and cooked to our ask of medium. We did not drink here but the drinks looked good. I am normally against eating at a hotel restaurant, but this place is worth it. They have a couple tvs playing football and the patio view is great. We have been searching for good Mexican food in Vail valley and we found it in el Sabor. Coming from Texas, we are pretty picky about Mexican food, and we were very impressed with the quality here. The queso and guac were a great start with a pitcher of the excellent house margaritas and then I was very impressed with my combo steak and chicken fajitas. Very high quality steak and chicken breast with some tasty seasoning. Overall I would highly recommend this place, not to mention it has a great view of the mountains and Gore Creek on the nice patio. read more
