We have been searching for good Mexican food in Vail valley and we found it in el Sabor. Coming from Texas, we are pretty picky about Mexican food, and we were very impressed with the quality here. The queso and guac were a great start with a pitcher of the excellent house margaritas and then I was very impressed with my combo steak and chicken fajitas. Very high quality steak and chicken breast with some tasty seasoning. Overall I would highly recommend this place, not to mention it has a great view of the mountains and Gore Creek on the nice patio. read more

Was hoping to enjoy a nice view with good food tonight with my family. Tonight all I had was a great view.. Took forever for our server to get around to us and when he did I asked for iced tea they didn't have any.. Took forever to get the food. When we got our food we had chicken and pork on our plates and it was dry.. To the point it was crunchy...I would of asked to see a manager but everyone was goofing off not doing their jobs.. I figured there not a manager on duty.. As a local I never write bad about restaurant but tonight I had to... Hard to imagine a place with worse food than at the top of the mountain...enter El Sabor. Sorry to give this place a negative review, due to the friendly service and its great location, but it's a restaurant, and if the food is bad, nothing else matters. Canned jalapenos and roja sauce that tasted like nothing more than tomato paste and the chicken must've been boiled. It was truly flavorless. Really bad meal, even by resort-town standards. I was so disappointed in this place. It is in a fantastic location. Too bad they don't put a bit more energy in the food / ambiance. The service was less than mediocre. Until the bartender realized we were friends with someone he knew and then it got better. But until that he had a terrible chip on his shoulder. As if we were a bother. Not impressed with these guys. Food was alright it was the service that was awful! We showed up about 10 minutes before opening. Sat down outside and all I simply asked for was a glass of water. Allergies are awful out here and I just needed to take some sudafed. They told me no and said they would get to me in 10 minutes. 5 minutes later 2 other guys show up and sit 2 tables down from me. As soon as the restaurant was open even though I was the first one here and the restaurant knew that they decided to cater to the other 2 guys first. Wth dude?!? So not feeling the greatest I decided just to share the French toast with my 4 year old son. Turns out he had the appetite of a grown man and ate the majority of it. It comes with bacon and hash browns and I really didn't need that much food so I asked if I was able to order the French toast only so we got a second order. Come to find out he charged me for the whole meal and I said if you are going to charge me for all of it I want all of it and to bring out the bacon and hashbrowns. He told me again no because he already told the cooks not to make it. Um?!? This is BS! Then as we were finishing up our meal there was a lady sitting behind us and said she didn't want bacon in her omelette her food came out and she said even though she didn't want it in her omelette she would take it on the side. He was happy to go back and tell the cooks to get her bacon even though she said she didn't want it in the first place. But he just couldn't do that for us for some reason. Name on the ticket for the server said Farva. Thanks farva we won't be back again because you ruined our first experience here! read more

The alarm went off making a less than pleasant evening worse. Our server brought the check without asking if we wanted dessert. My grandson left his toy. We went right back and it was not there. I'd love to be able to critique the food, but they wouldn't serve our party of 5 at 8:00PM on Saturday night on a holiday weekend. The hostess was nice and said please have a seat anywhere you like. A waiter asked if we had a reservation . We replied no, and he said sit in the back since the other 10 tables are reserved. We sat there for 15 minutes and no one would greet us. While the setting and location were great the food lacked the flavor so easily achieved when using simple good quality ingredients to create great taste. We had the ceviche, which is the only thing we would recommend, queso fundido and pitcher of of margaritas to start. Fundido was peppers and onions topped with melted cheese. Not at all why we expected. The over seasoned over cooked chicken breast was rubbery on the salad. Everyone said the balance of flavor was terrible in the enchiladas, combo plate and fish tacos. My sons Mexican pizza was burnt at the bottom. The quesadilla was the only thing eaten by our other son. Once we sent the pizza back they were great about replacing with a child quesadilla to go. The service was pleasant, however the timing of food was very slow. They were accommodating with our bill yet we felt bad for our out of town guest that came from Chicago. I wish the restaurant well the chef and owner would benefit from watching Rick Bayles on PBS Mexico one plate at a time. Simple interpretations of great Mexican food. read more

I've had dog food better than the sht they served today. The tacos were dry as af the guac was about American as it came. I could make better tacos with Safeway ingredients and Pet Co fish food. I recently came to vail and decided to stop into El Sabor an authentic Latin American Restaurant. I was floored by how affordable the meals here were along with the portion sizes that went along with it. The food I had the Torta was fresh and the flavors merged together perfectly. Stopped by for dinner and was happy with my experience. El Sabor is tucked away with a view of the mountain and creek next to the Eagle Bahn gondola. The decor is no frills with a generic outdoor balcony and more of a Mexican theme indoors. To put that in context, I am currently writing this review to a Caribbean jam album playing over their speakers. Service was slow enough for me to write this while waiting for my check (quiet night too), but the staff was friendly. I opted for the three item combo, reasonably priced. The food tasted fresh and was very flavorful. The pollo tamale was my favorite of the three. Definitely recommend checking this place out. The second star is only because of the views and our waitress was nice (and observant) otherwise this would be 1 star. Wife and I ordered different versions of carne asada tacos. We went there this summer and it was a fantastic experience. The wait staff was attentive and courteous. The food was great. I had tamales for 'tamale Tuesday.' The tomatillo sauce was very good as were the tamales. Great salsa. I would recommend this restaurant for Mexican while in Vail. read more
