We have eaten here at least 5 times and this was the worst. The service was horrible. Queso was cold. No water refill could only handle 1 request at a time. Finally the manager came over to get us a box and check. We asked for it at least 10 mins prior from waiter. My friends who we brought ordered steak fajitas and the never came. We all waited to eat together then waiter figured out they were never made and had to confirm the order. Then said I will give you a free drink but honestly they were big and did not need an additional drink. Nothing taken off tab. The shrimp were not fried like described they were also old and not great. Torilla soup was great as always. I was really disappointed. When busy- they failed. read more

I would leave zero if I could, the service was terrible! As soon as we got there our waiter took over 10 minutes just to offer us water and didn't ask if we wanted any other beverage. About 15 minutes later we barely got some tortillas and salsa and no one ever came back. Eventually our waiter came up and was quite rude about what we wanted. Eventually we got our food but it was from the bartender. Pur waiter was going to tables that barely came in and giving them things within minutes of them being there. I think it was a form of racism. All the white people were getting great service and we were the only colored people who were getting treated terribly! Not only that the food was terrible! The beans were hard meaning they came from a few days ago, the rice was hard, and the burrito and tacos tasted like wet dog food. It was absolutely disgusting. Not only that the waiter still never came back and the bartender was the one serving us, even then it was terrible! I asked for a refill of my coke and he placed it harshly on the table and spilled it all over the table and my food! He then had the audacity to give me the food back with more rice and beans..unbelievable. Talk about colorism. read more

The ambiance inside Agave is cozy and private. Their patio ambiance is open and friendly. Fresh hot flour tortillas made on the press by the front door and fresh salsa were brought to us by a sweet abuela. She was darling and the small tortillas were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Delicious. We got the regular queso. The chips are a little thick but crispy. The queso was flavorful with chunks of tomato, onion and peppers. We got one combo with a taco and 2 shredded beef enchiladas with ranchero sauce and the shredded chicken enchiladas (2) with suizas sauce. Both enchilada dishes were excellent! The meat was tender and juicy and the SAUCE (my god the sauce!) was AMAZING! The taco, made with a one of the fresh flour tortillas fried to crispy perfection was also delicious! The service was slow and laid back but friendly and responsive when we asked for something. Granted, we went during the off season and there could have been staff who were off. Super delicious chili rellenos - about the best I have found in Colorado. Great vibe as well. I like the fact that they give you freshly made tortillas when you walk in. Frequent Live Music is a plus as well although it usually doesn't start until about 10 PM which for many people is just a bit too late to enjoy.... read more

Local and busy and great food. We are here on business so always have to figure out what to eat and on Tuesday it's ALWAYS "taco Tuesday " Agave didn't disappoint. We had the specials offered and they were great !! The crisp beef taco was one of the best I had. Simple and so tasty. The Mahi taco was great. And they don't skimp on fillings !! This place was an amazing experience. We had a large group of more than 40 people from Chicago, including adults and children of all ages, and they accommodated all of us with very little notice. Dinner was fantastic, the serving staff were amazing, and the food was excellent. We had an upstairs dining area and it was truly a perfect experience and setting. Great Ambiance, wonderful service, best margaritas! First, you're greated with fresh tortillas and salsa. The appetizers are refreshing and fun. Kind of Texmex style flavors. The street tacos & elote tacos, so yummy!! For your main dish, I love the shrimp tacos or I LOVE the Cameron's de Coco con Arroz (Coconut Shrimp) is absolutely my favorite meal on the menu! I've been coming here for years with my family and it's a definitely a staple in the valley. Taco Tuesday is one of our favorite nights- always a delicious meal and great staff- it gets busy but the staff jams and really does a great job considering the crowd and hustle of the night. How does this place stay open? Friday night and there's nobody in there. The food is Bland and there's nothing going on.

The first thing we noticed when we were being sat was that the booth was very narrow at one end and really difficult to get into unless you are super skinny. And just not the most comfortable seating. Our server was really friendly and although she was new, she did a great job. The taco Tuesday specials were delicious and are a great value. My vegan daughter enjoyed her veggie burrito with rice and beans, and my husband mildly enjoyed his taco plate. It's not the most innovative Mexican food, but I found it fresh, filling, and delicious. And my margarita was solid, which is a requirement for any Mexican restaurant, of course. I will come back and maybe eat at the bar on one of their live music nights. Definitely a place worth checking out. read more

Normally when I come here it's at least an okay time, but this time they had a new bartender upstairs for the goldfish show... she was completely rude and rolled her eyes when my friend asked for a beer they didn't have. I simply told her she could just say something instead of being rude and she started yelling at me from across the bar to lose the attitude and that she wasn't going to serve me until I apologized. I'm a bartender myself and understand getting frustrated at times with customers, but only if it's warranted. I was tempted to give this restaurant 2-3 stars, but I felt it wouldn't be honest. The food was below average, lacking in flavor, and you could tell there wasn't much on the menu made from scratch. If you haven't yet tried Agave, you are sleeping on some authentic, delicious Mexican food. Living in San Diego, we have had our fair share of good Mexican food but nothing has come close to this fish dish. The highlight of this dish was the poblano cream sauce. Not too heavy and lightly spicy it was so good I was dipping the fresh tortillas in the sauce. The hubs had the fajitas which had a great amount of carne asada. Get the fish...best dish hands down. I'm going to be working on recreating this masterpiece at home. Oh and the service...another reason to come. read more

We're from Texas but hear me out...this was the blandest Mexican food ever - I swear the chicken wasn't even seasoned with salt/pepper. We should have known not to go when we saw the 3 star review but decided to give it a try. Only 6 people in the restaurant and we were sat at the smallest table. We went in-between lunch and dinner but no bartender was there so we could only get beer and wine. No fresh tortillas as "that's only available at dinner". We had to grab our own napkins from another table where they were prepping silverware. Apparently there is "lunch silverware" and "dinner silverware" as lunch silverware is wrapped in paper napkins and dinner is with cloth. Okay whatever. BEWARE YOU WILL GET CHARGED FOR CHIPS AND SALSA - not normal for us Texans. We had to constantly remind our waitress for plates, cups with lids, etc. She also threw 20% gratuity on our check which I get was because we had 6 people BUT 2 WERE KIDS (4 years old and a 1 year old!!!). Also for water, 4 beers, 6 plates (including a salad that did NOT include cactus as stated on the menu, couple of kids plates and a lunch plate) it cost $160!!! Just forewarning all of you. OH! And the men's bathroom only has urinals, no stalls. Just inconvenient as we had kids. Don't recommend!!! read more

I walked in to Agave tonight and the hostess absolutely shut me down. She told me I should probably make a reservation somewhere else. Unfortunately I can't give a review on the food, but I bet it lives up to the 3 star review. We were told to be seated at the bar and then a group of two men cut in front of us and the hostess stated "now the bar is full." You thought agave was sweet, not tonight. It was bitter.
