I really hate to have to post this because I really loved this place. The staff is awesome and the food is great tasting. However, I feel obligated to inform unsuspecting patrons of my last experience here. I sat at the bar a couple weeks ago and had chicken fajitas and a margarita. About 1/2 way through my meal a cockroach crawled across the bar top and right past my plate. Needless to say, my appetite was gone and I felt nauseous. I quietly let the bartender know what just happened. He didn't seem surprised at all but rather embarrassed as he immediately comped my meal. One of my favorite restaurants!! The service here is awesome, even when it's busy. They're fast but they don't rush you out. Jose is always our server and knows our drink and food orders, unless we change it up. I like my chicken fajitas with extra seasoning and for some reason he's the only one that brings them out right. read more

Have stopped here several times over the years on our annual trip to the Indy 500 and today was the worst! First off we wanted to eat something smaller but still eat there so we ordered off of the al la cart menu, and ordered water and soda, waiter came back with 2 drinks ,told him I ordered water he said keep it..charged...food comes...dirty silverware...finally when the bill came we were charged for meals!!!!...$30 for 4 quesadillas...no sides...no lettuce..no nothing...asked about it and waiter said that it is what it is...tradition broken...will never eat here again!.... read more

Speedway in May...all the stuff dreams are made of. 10 years later this still hits the spot. I am a regular here and am surprised at finding what appears so be rat feces on the tortilla chips. Asked for the manager and I believe another waiter approached the table. After we spoke to him and showed him he said he would hace the owner come to the table. After waiting approx 5 min we went to front to ask for the owner. He stated that Orkin was at the restaurant today. And said they make the chips daily. I asked to see where they store them. I followed and was asked to wait. The food is pretty standard Mexican cuisine for the west side of Indianapolis. You get the rice. You get the beans. You get the chips and the salsa. It's noting special, really. My wife and I always struggle with picking a Mexican place when the mood so strikes us and we always have the same things to say about El Rodeo, the food does a number o. Your body and isn't really worth it, but the frozen margaritas here are second to none. The issue we have is that we both prefer our margaritas frozen as opposed to in the rocks. El Rodeo keeps their frozen margaritas going with a frozen yogurt machine so the consistency is always perfect. I'm only giving the three stars for the margaritas. read more

Good food comes out quickly. Wait staff leaves a lil to be desired. Hit and miss with getting a friendly waiter,some can be a lil rude. Not crazy about the way you receive your check. It's a written ticket in Spanish with a receipt attached with prices. More than once after going over my bill I've found extra charges that couldn't be explained and had them removed. Bathroom can be a lil cleaner smells a bit sometimes. If you wash your hands be careful I promise the water temp is set to third degree burn lol. I love their sangarita, guacamole and fajitas. They keep me coming back even after some not so great visits. On the up side I've had more good experiences than not, so it's worth sticking it out read more

I am sorry, this is the very worst Mexican food I have ever tasted. I grew up in San Francisco, so I have enjoyed many fantastic dishes. This however was the WORST chili relleno I have ever seen - two bites were disgusting. It was like sausage and salt gravy as you would find at Bob Evans with a biscuit and this paper thin layer of pepper that dissolved into nothing as soon as my fork touched it. So on to the enchilada - no sauce - none! Another bite into rubbery thick probably flour tortillas and tasteless meat (who know what it was). Refried beans?? could not tell that beans were ever a part of this :( The only thing I could stand was the rice - again probably instant with red food coloring. I cannot imagine they have any chili powder, cumin, garlic or an onion on the premise. NEVER AGAIN!! The service was ok. but when the food is this scarey bad - who cares. read more

They have the BEST Margaritas! My favorite the Sangria Margarita! The large size is enormous and is enough to get you a little tipsy, these margaritas are no joke they are loaded. Food wise, not the best. Being Mexican/American myself I find this food to be no where near authentic(then again, no "big chain" restaurant is), but that doesn't mean it's not good. It's just not up to my standards or what I'm used to eating for Mexican food. When I'm here I order one of two things, the shrimp quesadilla or the nachos al carbon and I only order so I don't look like an alcoholic who just comes for the margaritas lol Seriously food isn't bad, just not what you would find in a Mexican woman's kitchen. I've been coming here for years and I've had 2 occasions where the server doesn't come back after my food is delivered to the table and I've had to get up to ask for something(that being the case today as I write this review), their water taste like crap after a few margaritas you won't notice it lol, but the cheese dip is delicious. read more

This place has really taken off. As a resident of Speedway, I have seen this place grow and improve! Food is as authentic as it gets for being in the US. The staff is always very friendly and have quick service! If you're in town visiting the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, give this place a go, you will not be disappointed! I lived in the Speedway area for the past 8 years and I use to like this place a lot...they have good food for the price and fast serving. But I havent been there since the last time about 2 years ago...They had this waiter I dont know if he was retard or what but when he was talking to me he started poking me with his finger asking me what I was going to order..I didn't like that at all never seen him before.. Let me start by saying that my friends and I have been LOYAL customers @ El Rodeo 5 (HS Road) for the past 12 years. I have my favorite waiters - one of which is still there. The other waiters who've always treated us well are Jose and of course Enrique (if he's still the manager). If you are seated in Rojelio's section, you will be pleased with the food and the service. Now for my review. The past 3 times (JUN/JUL 2012) I've been in El Rodeo have been a nightmare. I don't know whether management has changed hands or what, but the service is LOUSY (aside from the chips/salsa). My friends and I waited over 15 mins for our order (we go right after work at 4:10p, so it's not busy), and over 20 mins for our food. This is unacceptable because we've never waited longer than 10-15 min TOTAL for our order or food in 12 years. I thought I would give them another try after the first time I had to wait so long .. but the service just got worse the next 2 times I went in. They've lost my loyalty because of the CRAP waiters they employ. They're lazy and will look right at you as you motion for them, then ignore you. WTF? Neither I nor my friends will give El Rodeo 5 our business in the future. It's too bad, too .. we really used to love that place for the food, ambiance AND the margaritas. Completely dissatisfied. Pretty good place to eat, been here a few times now. Typically fast service, although the last time we sat in the bar area and it seemed to take a little longer than usual. Only complaint would be having to wait and wait at the register, and you never know who is waiting to pay and who is waiting to be seated as it's all sitting there with no organization. read more

ALERT...ALERT...ALERT!! I was just having a great meal with my wife at El Rodeo in Speedway and all of a sudden a BABY ROACH joined our table!!! When we addressed the management, they were very dismissive and deflected the fact a roach just strolled across our table and interrupted our dining experience. The couple behind us expressed their concern and was soon told to either take their meal or leave. When they decided to leave they were told not to come back. We will NEVER give our business to that establishment again and hope many of you will follow suit. read more
