I brought my husband and kid here for nostalgic reasons because I used to come to this place as a kid myself and it was pretty much what I remembered. We ordered beans and rice for our kid. This spot is right around the corner from our house and I've passed it a million times so I finally decided to stop in for a meal. The interior is so much bigger than it appears and there is plenty of seating available as well as a few tables outside. Safety measures have been in place including: masks, gloves, and sanitizer. You do still have to go to the desk to pay in person so that has not changed. I'm usually sat quickly because it is a large restaurant. However, the service can sometimes be slow, but I'm patient, especially now when everyone is just doing the best they can. I've ordered many different items from the menu, one of my favorites is Arroz con Pollo, I usually add grilled onions. I always have to order queso for the chips and salsa. I ordered the steak enchiladas and the meat was burnt a little (I like a char on my steak but it was kind of tough at that point) and the tortillas were fine, not quite as soft as I might have preferred. So i want it understood that this review is under a lot of scrutiny as i use to live out in San Diego, CA which has some of the best mexican food in the US. So first of all i use to come here all the time with my family and then the place started going down hill. They started getting greedy with the prices and portions and the service was not good. BUT I WAS SO SURPRISED when i walked in here on a Wednesday night to try the place and actually LOVED it! It was refreshingly good with well seasoned meat and vegis. Their salsa also tasted much better than the last time i had been here. The service was prompt and very friendly. Bringing anything i asked for. El Jaripeo serves all your Mexican favorites, and their menu is large. I've enjoyed everything I've had. I'm always partial to fajitas, and I have enjoyed the chicken fajitas the most. I've also tried their shrimp fajitas; they were tasty. Portion sizes are moderate, and I have never had leftovers. During the COVID-19 crisis, I found El Jaripeo's takeout service to be convenient.
