Excellent service. Tangy and spicy pico de gallo and salsa with chips upon being seated. We ordered the guacamole and chips that were made table-side. I chose a taco salad with chicken. This is a review primarily on the drinks, ambiance, and service at El Rancho. The food is good, but it's not the main reason we visit as often as we do. Bend can be somewhat hard to find a good margarita, a lot of the mexican restaurants are over hyped and overpriced. El Rancho is not that. The Margaritas here are a bit on the pricey side, but you get your moneys worth (it only takes 1 and you're good y'all). I usually get a Cadillac when I'm in there and it's essentially the same as getting 2 drinks as they give you an extra pour in the shaker that you can get an extra .75 drinks out of or so. Other than the Margaritas, the service is awesome, most notably Yuri (sorry if I spelled your name wrong bro) and Edgar. My wife and I primarily go to El Rancho and sit at the bar due to both of them and the service they provide. Always friendly, remember drink orders and names and are extremely genuine... which is a tough thing to find in the hospitality industry these days... especially in touristy Bend. It's nice to be a local and actually feel like a local when you go out to eat, makes the experience a whole lot more inviting. If you're ever in town and want a good atmosphere with solid drinks and good food check out El Rancho in Bend.. they have both a north side and south side location... I frequent the North. read more

The service here has gotten seriously rude. Food and drinks are decent but a bit overpriced. They advertise on their website that happy hour is daily from 2:30-5 but they changed it to later and still advertise the old times on website. We ultimately decided not to dine here due to concerning staff interactions that reflected larger workplace culture issues. As a hostess prepared seating for our party of seven in the lounge (after confirming we were all 21+), two male coworkers openly reprimanded her in front of guests, speaking over her and criticizing her approach even though she was correct. It was uncomfortable to witness and raised concerns about how staff are supported and treated on the floor. One of those same employees then approached our group and spoke to us in a confrontational, dismissive manner about age and ID policies that had already been addressed. When his tone was calmly questioned, the interaction was not de-escalated. After leaving, I briefly returned to ask for management contact information. No name or supervisory information was offered, only the restaurant's general phone number, making follow-up difficult. The experience left us questioning the internal communication, training, and culture at this location. For that reason, we chose to leave and would hesitate to recommend it. read more

I now live in Reno and it's hard to find good Mexican food here. I miss El Rancho Grande and definitely miss the food! Some of my favorites are the Soap Lima soup, Carne Asada plate, crispy taco plate and Super nachos....even their steak quesadilla is the best quesadilla I've had. This is the second time I came for a pick up orde and both times I had my orders mixed up. The first time I ordered two burritos with in with shrimp. I specifically asked at the counter which one was the one with the shrimp. They pointed the wrong one and my husband ended up with an allergic reaction for having a bite with the shrimp. Yesterday I had guests and came with a big order. I give the attendant my phone to read all the orders. Once at the table, one enchilada was missing. I wanted to check before I left but they rushed me out, handing the bag already packed. Okay as a Californian I almost never eat Mexican food outside of Cali or Mexico. But some locals swore by this place and while nothing was bad, and the staff was cool, this was the most flavorless Mexican food I've had in years. Also, carnitas is literally pulled pork so you can't have "chicken carnitas". Totally decent if you can't have better, but I hope they discover some more flavorful dishes. After a long, hard day at work, decided to treat myself to my favorite Mexican dish, camarones al mojo de ajo (shrimp with mushrooms and garlic sauce). I've eaten here several times before, and never had a bad experience, but it was the first time I've ordered their food to go. It was ready when I arrived, and the two hostesses were friendly and helpful. I got home to find that the meal was completely correct, hot, much more food than I was expecting, and even included chips and salsa. Extremely Disappointed. My adult son wanted to dine at El Rio Grande for his birthday. We had a party of 6, so we called ahead for a reservation. My daughter-in-law made the call and was told that they only took reservations for parties of 7 or more. So, we went without a reservation. The kids (adults) arrived early and put their names in for a table. They were told it would be 20 minutes for a table. We arrived a few minutes later. Then we began to wait. And wait. And wait. We started to notice that Hispanic families that arrived after us were seated almost immediately. And we continued to wait. And wait. After 45 minutes, we asked for assistance. We were told that it would be another 15 to 20 minutes. And we continued to wait. And wait. After 20 minutes more, the kids (our 2 little grandkids) were restless and hungry. We asked again. We were told "soon". We were done. There was nothing that we could do at this point but go home. Our kids and grandkids went to their home and had leftovers from the refrigerator. The birthday celebration was ruined. The whole experience reminded me of the classic Seinfeld episode, "The Chinese Restaurant", where Jerry and his friends keep getting passed for getting a table. Hit up El Rancho for dinner after several days of golfing and were greeted immediately and sat minutes later. Service was spot on and super friendly/professional and our drink order hit our table shortly thereafter. The four of us ordered all different entrees and came to table timely. I was really looking forward to returning to El Rancho Grande Mexican Restaurant while visiting my family in Bend, as I had fond memories of their great food. While the food remains excellent, my experience today was totally tainted by the service, and it has left me feeling very disappointed. The trouble started when we arrived. I have a service dog, and we requested to sit at a certain booth. They reluctantly agreed, which already set a negative tone for the experience. When the waiter arrived, he seemed rushed and impatient to take our order. The food, which included a chicken quesadilla and chicken enchilada, was delivered fairly quickly, and it was delicious. However, we had to ask for extra salsa twice before we finally got it. What really soured the experience was the lack of attention after the food was served. We sat at the table for over 25 minutes with our plates stacked up, and no one came to check on us. I eventually had to ask the hostess for another drink, and I handed her my debit card to pay for dinner, treating my parents. The waiter, however, brought my card back and gave it to my dad's fiancée, assuming she was the one paying, which was not the case. The real issue came when I was handed the checkout machine. The total on the screen was $102, which seemed high, but I scanned my card without asking for a receipt at first. When I told my dad the total, he was surprised, so I asked for the receipt and requested to speak with a manager. Instead of the manager, the waiter returned, and his attitude was immediately defensive. I just asked him to clarify the bill, and it turned out the original amount was $82, but a 25% tip had been added without my knowledge. He insisted that I had selected the tip amount myself, but I had not - he had pre-selected the 25% tip before handing me the machine. After some back and forth, they refunded me $21, and I ended up giving a $10 tip. But it left me wondering how many other customers, especially the elderly or those not paying close attention, might have been scammed like this. The waiter continued to place the blame on me, saying I had chosen the tip, which I had not. He even mentioned they had cameras, and when I asked to see the footage, he pointed to the ceiling and gave a vague excuse. In the end, they refunded the overcharge, but the whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth. The food is still great, but the people working here have questionable ethics, and it feels like they are trying to scam customers. It's sad to see such a good restaurant marred by poor service and unethical behavior. Beware: This place has amazing food, but the service is shady at best. The first time I ate here was about 6 months ago with my family and we had a good experience minus the churro dessert which was soggy and used canned fruit. My 2nd experience was just straight up terrible- first, the waiters complaining about their jobs right in front of us and other tables. Next, the food was straight up ghetto. My carne asada plate was undercooked and my switch out of refried beans to pinto beans was a mistake because the pinto beans were cold. My carne asada was mostly fat and the part that wasn't was super undercooked. The tortillas were actually mushy when I took them out of the container. My partner had the fajitas and they just looked and tasted so unappetizing. We both pushed our plates to the side after a few bites. My little one had a burger and that was a risk at a Mexican place but how hard is it to mess up a plain burger. Welp, yelp, they gave him a rare burger and called it a day. Lastly, came the dessert which we had to ask about after the check came because they were rushing people out of there to get new customers in. We had the chocolate fudge cake with vanilla ice cream, except when it came out, it had no vanilla ice cream which disappointed the kid of course. The big kicker was the fact it was rock hard like it just came out of the freezer. We won't be going back. It's super expensive and we now realize there are much better places for dine-in Mexican food. This place needs to slow the F down and take a minute to re-evaluate the food coming out and the price point. I'll probably never go back because of this experience. read more

My wife and I tried this place while visiting Bend because it happened to be in the area we were shopping. We were not disappointed!! The only small complaint is that our waiter sometimes took a long time to come back to us. Other than that, he was attentive and helpful. While I liked their salsa, it was very spicy and too spicy for my wife. Our waiter brought back 3 other salsas for us to sample which was cool. My wife ventured out of her comfort zone and tried the carne asada tacos. She said they were the best tacos she ever had! My wet burrito with chicken off the lunch menu was fantastic. Our mojito and non-stop shelf margarita were tasty. The food was great, waiter was helpful and nice. We'd definitely return. Wish we had one closer to home! read more

Had a hard time finding the spot but when arrived was seated immediately waited on less then a min water chips and salsa silverware were all placed. Order taken and appetizers of choice was the Civiche. Came out quickly very impressed ordered for me and my lady as we finished our appetizer the timing was perfect we received our main course. The service was way above expectations respectful and helped by 3 staff members making sure I was happy and satisfied. This is the restaurant that would even have your grandfather impressed. Will definitely recommend and return. Only suggestion would be the salsa a little spicy for a house salsa but otherwise fantastic. read more

Everytime I come here, I am treated like family. It's amazing. The food speaks for itself, I usually keep it simple but they always knock it out of the park. Do yourself a favor and sit in the bar, it has the coolest atmosphere in Bend in my opinion. I don't drink alcohol but they will serve you a Roy Rogers in a giant glass so that's fantastic for me. Plenty of sports on the tv and the best chips and salsa right when you are seated. You are doing yourself a disservice if you don't stop by. read more

However, I couldn't help believe just a bit disappointed because I feel like the potential is here, but the food does not live up to the potential. The place is a very nice ambience. However, my food just felt rushed in that I got the fajitas, but hardly any of the vegetables were actually cooked. The salsa also taste a little too smoky for my preference and I would prefer fresh salsa with the chips. I've lived in Oregon my whole life and never have been into a restaurant where tip is already added to my bill, unless there's a large party: it was 3 of us having a quick bite to eat. Edgar our server checked on us once, we asked for more chips and salsa and only got chips... this restaurant shouldn't be considered "Mexican" because frankly the food at Taco Del Mar is better.
