Bartender wasn't wearing a mask the entire time. During the height of December Covid. I came into the restaurant to pickup takeout, bartender was in the bathroom, cleared his throat then wiped his hands on his face, then went over to tend bar, the whole time not wearing a mask. I had always heard so many good things about this place from the Facebook group Bend Foodies, so I just had to try it one day while I was nearby. I was so glad that I did! The service was immaculate, and our waitress made sure to make us feel right at home and helped us figure out what to eat when we mentioned it was our first time. The chips were mediocre and the rice and beans were also good. The service was very good, friendly, and attentive. The food came to our table very fast. It had to be prepared in advance. And i just like it when it's cooked to the order and fajitas taste better when sizzling on the hot dish. At the end we would go back and give it another shot. But I just don't see why its a 4-star. Upon walking in I was excited to eat here. I was super hungry and ready for some great food! First thing I noticed is that the hostess was dressed in clothes that I found unprofessional. I would have never known she worked there if she wasn't standing behind the counter. Everyone else who works there is in uniform, so I found that odd. The hostesses demeanor was also that of being in a rush and kind of expecting me to self direct, which I can do, but that's not how that should work in a restaurant. The aesthetic was nice. The restaurant has a really nice look and they are limiting capacity. It didn't take very long for my son and I to be seated. Once sat, we had a server bring us waters. She was nice but I think she may have been the only server on so her attentions were stretched. Not an issue - we didn't need much and I totally understand with staffing due to COVID! I ordered the steak fajitas and my son had a kids enchilada (beans & cheese.) His enchilada he thought was great! My steak fajita however.... The steak didn't have very much flavor at all and it was so tough and chewy that I couldn't eat it. I offered some to my son to see if it was just me. He tried to eat some and said "I can't eat this - it's too chewy." So I ended up just eating the tortillas with the fillings besides the meat, and not much of it as the flavors just weren't there. When the server came back I told her about and she was great. I didn't ask her to take it off of the bill but she did when I said I didn't want a box or a replacement. That was really nice and I appreciated that! Our waters were never empty thanks to the servers helpers going around with water, chips and salsa! I do like that they have a spicy and a mild salsa for the table. All in all, I probably won't go back as this was my first experience there and the steak was not good at all. I mean it's steak. Convenient location with an amazing atmosphere! We were craving Mexican food and gave this place a try. The restaurant was very clean and has fun decor (including a life size buffalo) and plenty of seating. The hostess was less than friendly but we didn't let that ruin our visit. We sat at a booth in the bar. The margaritas are tasty, but small. The super burrito with shredded beef was smothered and delicious. To start the salsa had zero flavor to it so we decided to order the queso and see if it was any better, once we reseved our queso there was a huge clump of cheese in the middle not melted it was not warm at all and it aswell had zero flavor to it. We then wanted to change to a mild salsa because the first one was to hot for us and as expected zero flavor at all in it we could barely tell we were even eating salsa. We got our entrees and both were cold aswell with the orders being messed up and not right. Servers had trouble understanding what was being asked with not very good english and they were fairly rude about us not having liked the food and were not intrested in our thoughts on it. The ambiance of the place was fairly neat but was a little gloomy. Overall we definitely wont be returning mainly due to the horrible food and thefairly rude service I would not advise others to eat there. read more

Rafael is there BEST manager I've experienced. He listened to me, treated me as if I were one of his own, and gave me some of the best customer service I've experienced in a LONG time. He was "real" while still being professional. Fun conversation, got to know me, and helped me out (letting me stay in the lounge for hours after a flight, waiting on family). The rest of the staff was fantastic too. Very thorough, on top of service, asking how I was, and making sure my chips were stocked. Thank you El Rancho Grande family for today! My girlfriend and I met up for drinks and a late lunch. We sat in the bar, which wasn't overly crowded. A booth was being vacated at the time of our arrival. We requested to sit in the booth versus a table in the middle of the room that we were led to. The male staff was completely off put by the request and super passive aggressive. We took the liberty and sat at the booth anyway. Given it was happy hour the hostess provided us with the lunch menu. The aforementioned male staff abruptly removed the menus and provided the dinner menu. The manner he spoke to the young hostess about this was demeaning and appalling. Service was ridiculously slow given the number of patrons and the pace which others were served. We ordered guacamole, margaritas and halibut tacos - not a cheap order. We requested additional salsa and it was as though it was an egregious ask. Each time the male staff would come to the table he was grossly condescending and incredibly uncouth. Overtly tactless. Although the food was quite good the experience was soured by the demeanor of the male staff. Given there are multiple competitors that also serve well-made Mexican dishes we definitely won't be returning. We left feeling dejected and outwardly disrespected. Never again. read more

The ground beef was nicely seasoned with a consistent, middle of the road enchilada sauce. Hubby had the veggie burrito. But ask any Mexican, and theyll tell you, its not anything like home cooking in Mexico. We were raised on "American style" Mexican food. Tacos, enchiladas, burritos, etc. Rancho Grando gets that and does it better than anyone else here in the Bend area. You can find a tiny street taco with tongue or brains in it for $3.50, but I'm not looking for that. I want a big hot platter with rice and beans and gooy melted cheese and hot red sauce around my beef enchilada and chicken taco. This is where you'll find that. I had a really bad experience at El Rancho Grande. The server dropped the salsa and it splattered all over my new white shirt. I realize it was a total accident & he didn't mean to. ThenOur actual waiter was in a huge hurry and kept trying to rush us to order. When my fajitas arrived I noticed the vegetables were hardly cooked. Normally they are sizzling and the onions are caramelized. The waiter said they were really busy in the kitchen but he took it back at my request. El Rancho Grande is ok. I thought it was expensive. I got the #10 combo: taco/enchilada- both chicken. The beans are my favorite. The rice was ok. Enchilada was really good, but the taco and the salsa were not my favorite. The chicken in the taco (same as enchilada) is really really good. But it was topped w shredded ice burg, and processed cheese. The tortilla was store bought- which is great for a n enchilada, but wasn't awesome for the taco. This place made us feel so welcomed, even during this really tough time where you can only do take out only. This place invested so much to make it be compliant . This business looked very nice from the outside. The interior was clean and neat, including the restrooms. Due to COVID-19, the staff wore masks and the appropriate tables were closed for social distancing. I ordered the deluxe chicken burrito that came with a side of rice and refined beans. My lunch partner ordered the chicken chimichanga that, also, had the sides of rice and beans. When we were seated, we were quickly given a basket of tortilla chips, a cup of salsa, and 2 waters. Our orders were taken promptly. The chips weren't fresh or warm. The salsa was good. Our food came quickly. We were told the plates were hot...but that didn't help because the food was barely lukewarm. We tasted each other's entrees. Both tasted exactly the same. Very bland, no flavor, blah. As were the rice and beans. My tortilla was gummy, cool, soggy. We used lots and lots of salsa and ate quickly but our food was still cold before we could finish. Never again. read more

We looked at the extensive lunch menu and decidedly quickly. We waited and waited for the waitress who finally showed up to take our order. No worries, it probably wasn't as long as I thought it was. They have a pretty extensive lunch menu. I got the enchiladas and taco with shredded beef. The taco was so good! The beef was well seasoned in a red sauce and so juicy. The taco shell was freshly fried. It came with refried beans and red rice but I also liked that they give you an option of black or pinto beans to sub. I'm not a big fan of refried so I opted for the black beans. It was gonna be a long drive back so no margarita for me. The kids has quesadilla and other one had bean burrito. I liked that there were about 5 options for the kids. My husband wasn't so crazy about his dish but he liked the restaurant overall and will try something else next time. Alright, so let me start with the food and go from there. We were given chip and salsa as soon as we were seated. The chips were nice and warm, salsa was a little on the spicy side, but I like it that way. And as soon as they were all gone, the waiter immediately asked if we wanted more which was a pleasant surprise because generally I have to ask for a refill. Our food came fairly quick, and was presented nicely. I mean it looked pretty darn good, but like someone else said in their review, it's a bit Americanized. Didn't taste like the authentic Mexican food I've had back home in California. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't bad, just not exactly what I was looking forward to. The frozen margaritas ice was grainy with some big chunks that left an odd consistency in the mouth. I wished it had a stronger lime bite an I couldn't taste the Tequila in the drink. My wife and I decided to try this based on all the positive reviews. This was our first Mexican Restaurant experience here in Bend. When you first enter, they have the bar/tv area off to the left and the general seating area to the right. We were seated in the bar/tv area which has TV's on each wall, so if you're a sports fan you'll have something to watch. The atmosphere is on the dim side, and the seating areas are comfortable. The place is clean and has a nice atmosphere for general hanging out and talking. We ordered the chicken taquitos and the mexican pizza to start. Even though these are appetizers, their portion size works as a meal (see photos). I enjoyed the taquitos. I'm fairly picky about having fresh, quality tasting food and this was good. I wouldn't say it was remarkable or something I would go out of my way to have again but it was definitely enjoyable and I would certainly order it again. The guacamole was quite good. I eat guac all the time and make it every couple days at home so I was happy that their guac tasted great. The chicken was good, definitely not like some mexican places where the chicken tastes like it was "plopped" out of a can. It wasn't smothered in cheese either so you could enjoy the other flavors. My wife's mexican pizza was too cheesy though. If you really like having lots of cheese then this may be for you. As for her, this wasn't something she would order again. She also had coffee which was ok. Not great, but drinkable (better then say coffee at Shari's). They serve you chips and salsa before your meal as well. The chips seemed fresh and the salsa had kick. I would say the spice/heat level is similar to the hottest salsa available at say Chipotle. If you don't like spicey foods you'll probably want to see if they can mellow it down for you. It was a good quality salsa though, and I enjoyed it. For dessert we shared their fried ice-cream w/ strawberry sauce. This was perfect to share as it's a pretty good size (see photo). I thought this was an enjoyable dessert as well. The ice cream, sauce, etc. were all good and this is something I would order again. The service was good but not spectacular. I asked for lemon in my water and they ignored or forgot that request. They didn't stop by during the meal to see if we needed anything... which was fine, but it's nice when servers do that in case they forgot something or you need more of something. Still, I found everyone to be friendly and polite. Overall, this is a place I would visit again. The food seemed good quality, though as with any place you'll find some items are a hit, while others are a miss. The food wasn't on a level that I would call remarkable, or an amazing taste experience but if you're in the mood for Mexican Food I think this is a solid choice. read more
