3-Star Review - Pink Lotus Cantonese, Metuchen, NJ…read more Stopped by Pink Lotus Cantonese Restaurant in Metuchen around 10 PM when not many other places were open, so the location was definitely convenient--right next to lots of shops. The space is nice with good seating and a clean, comfortable setup. Tried the stir-fried chili tofu, brown rice, and noodles. The noodles were the best part--flavorful and well-cooked. Unfortunately, the tofu was quite average with not much taste, and the brown rice was a bit too dry for our liking. Parking is tough around this place .. paid parking mostly . Overall, a decent late-night option if you're nearby, but the flavors could use a boost.

Crab Cheese Rangoon: 9/10 light amd delicious. Full of flavor without overstuffing it with cheese. Good ratio, served hot! Sesame Chicken: 9.5/10 fried perfectly without overbearing it. The sauce was not just sweet. The sesame comes through. Deliciously crispy outside and juicy inside. Roast Pork Fried Rice 10/10! This is hands down the BEST RPF I've tried. Full of scrambled eggs, roast pork, flavor and scallions (if you like scallions- you'll love this!) Beef n Broccoli: 9/10 tender bites, in a flavorful glazey brown sauce, with perfect ratio additions of sliced onion, carrots and broccoli. BBQ Spareribs: 8.5/10 : the flavor was on point, I like mine a little on the sticky side, but these did not disappoint! My hubbs raved over them (he gave it a 10/10) especially because he was craving good spareribs. This place has take out, I dont know about delivery, but make the trip, you won't regret it. The service was very friendly. The ambiance was for thr most part, quiet. There was a lot of noise coming from the floor above, mostly thumping. The place needs a little updating. I didn't care since the food was soooo good!

If you're in NJ and craving Hong Kong-style wonton noodle soup, head to Wonton Guy in Edison. It's a no-frills local gem tucked away in a tiny strip mall off Route 27, with a few parking spots out front and more in the back. The space is small (only 10 tables!) and nothing fancy, but the value is hard to beat. It's always busy, and after you take your first slurp of the soup, you'll get why. Service is fast, so the tables turn over quickly. I was able to grab a seat when I walked in on a Saturday evening. The menu is simple and offers 3 main options: 1.) noodle soup with toppings 2.) soup with toppings (no noodles) 3.) lo mein with toppings served with soup on the side From there, you pick your noodle type (egg, flat rice, vermicelli), as well as up to 3 toppings (wontons, dumplings, beef brisket, etc.). There are also a few side dishes like shredded pork in chili tomato sauce, deep fried fish skin, and curry fish balls. They even sell some items raw like wontons, noodles, dumplings, and sliced beef. And the best part is... the prices are very affordable! Most of the dishes are around $11-$16. My order: *Two Toppings (wonton + beef brisket) Noodle Soup [$12.75] - Where do I begin? Every single part of this meal SLAPPED. The wontons were MUMBO JUMBO and generously filled with fresh, plump shrimp that were sweet and juicy. The noodles were soft and springy. The beef brisket was SO tender with a melt-in-your-mouth texture. And the broth? Super rich, aromatic, and savory. It's made of shrimp skin, pork bone, dried flounder fish, dried shrimp, and dried monk fruit, but it doesn't taste fishy at all. Each table is stocked with condiments like vinegar, homemade chili oil, and soy sauce to customize your soup. The chili oil packs some SERIOUS HEAT, so watch out. This was hands down one of the best noodle soups I've had. I was sad when I finished it :-( *Hong Kong-style Milk Tea [$6] - I really enjoyed this! The black tea was bold and strong--almost too strong for me, but the milk balanced it out nicely. I only wish it had boba! Everything tasted authentic. Quick backstory: The owner comes from a family with GENERATIONS of experience making wontons and running noodle shops in Hong Kong. He grew up there and brought those family traditions to his own restaurants in Toronto... and now Edison. All those years of experience clearly show in his food. The broth is simmered overnight, and the wontons are freshly prepared every morning. No shortcuts here--just decades of tradition, skill, and a whole lot of love in every bowl. Ugh, I wish I lived closer because I'd be a regular. It's hard these days to find a place that REALLLLLLY delivers a memorable meal that's both tasty, reasonably priced, and served in generous portions. If you're within driving distance and debating whether it's worth the trip--DON'T! Wonton Guy is absolutely worth a visit, even if it's just once. I drove an hour to try it, and I still think about those wontons all the time... no joke LOL.
