Despite reduced customer flow, El PATRON continues to grind out 5 star yummy eats. Of course the prices have inflated (no surprise I'm sure) but not as steeply as some of the compitition's prices have. The menu has changed appreciably, but most of my old favorites are still available, plus a few new ones. Now for the "mixed" news. Gone are the long waits at the door or the need for reservations. Friday evening the place was only half full....& the wait for our food was shorter. Lunch times finds the dining room practically empty. While these might sound like good things, they are not! Fewer customers means reduced quality, & at some point, restaurants closing up. This was a go to spot for a long time and I came to visit after a long hiatus because we had a food voucher. Although the voucher had no date or time restrictions upon getting there we were told we could not use it. We got the margarita pitcher combo and ordered guacamole. Overall the food was good but we never got our guacamole and my check-in came with a free flan. The flan was Burt and lack luster. Was honestly hesitant to go because the reviews had been all over the place but definitely happy I ended up going. Went for the outdoor seating option and the place was full. Ended up having to wait maybe 10mins for a table which was fine considering it was around 8 on a Saturday night. I ordered the Steak Burro Grande, a friend ordered the chimichanga, and another friend ordered the chicken tacos. My burrito was and very filling, and it was filled with lots of steak and cheese, and rice and beans. The chimichanga came with rice and beans and were topped with guac and my friend thoroughly enjoyed it. The chicken tacos were overflowing with chicken& guac, and also served with rice & beans. I don't like to complain about food since im coming from Food Industry. One of my oder was Pico de Gallo. But this is basically Pico de cebolla. (chop onions) I know how pico de Gallo suppose to look and when i call the restaurant to make a comment about it, they got very cold & rude trying to correct me and they insisted that the pico de gallo is not a salsa or sauce, instead they told me is just onions, cilantro and little bit of tomato. I actually rated them 4 stars like a year ago. Before covid, I used to see how packed this place was, YES! Very popular in the neighborhood!! In covid times, we wanted to do like a stay at home date night and we ordered Margaritas, plater for 2, which is the reason of the updated review! So delicious! It has beef, chicken, chicharron, fried kassaba, and platains! It was more than enough and it was very tasty. On one of my kast days in NY, I ordered again! Because good things you have to do it at least twice lol! Don't forget to order their chicken soup if you are sick! Is gonna help you!! I came here a few days ago during lunch and I was absolutely pleased! I got a patron margarita which costs $20. Totally worth it. It was the best margarita I have ever had! And I have a lot of margaritas in my life! I got pretty tipsy! The chips and salsa were good. They have affordable lunch specials! The chicken quesadilla is amazing! I love everything about it. I decided to give an update on this place since it had been years. Last night we ordered some dishes through Uber Eats and I felt it deserved a second review. Not only was this place opened late (10pm), the food came fast and hot! We ordered the bandeja paisa, beef empanadas, and mini patron sampler platter. The total was about $80 between taxes, tip and delivery. So definitely a little expensive, however being in person would cut down the fees to about $60-70. Then again, maybe not because you would want to have a margarita there lol. For a Mexican style place, the food was well prepared and traveled well. If I were asked to describe this restaurant, the first two words that come to mind is sneaky and fraudulent. And the food & drinks don't even make up for it. Matter of fact, the food & drinks are so bad it gets you even more tight about getting scammed. I referred 2 of my friends from the BX to a hair salon across the street. We all went together to get our hair done and decided to grab a quick drink afterwards since we haven't seen each other since "The Plague". El Patron was right there so we thought why not? When we walked in, the bar area was closed, and the front was blocked off with a table. I saw about 2 or 3 tables occupied so I knew they were open. About 5 minutes or so, a female server came and told us very abrasively we needed to fill out our contact info, the sheet was empty, I wonder why the other customers didn't have to fill it out...but whatever. My friends who are Mexican, spoke to the same server in Spanish and they said she didn't like that. She kept responding with annoyance and then turned to me and kind of translated what they were saying. I was like girl I got a 98% on my Spanish Regents in high school I'm good. But my friends thought she was acting funny. We only wanted drinks but I felt bad occupying a table so we ordered some apps as well. We ordered nachos, calamari, and empanadas. The cocktails were $17 each! I was expecting some really well mixed craft cocktail but what I received was a bland Slurpee. Like deadass, it just tasted like crushed ice with a .00000001 teaspoon of juice. My friend said her Sangria was ok and her sister doesn't drink so she got an iced tea. The empanadas were dry and a choking hazard. The calamari was not fresh and my friends said tasted very "fishy". My nachos were bland and I needed some Tapatio or Cholula but the server never came back. In fact, after she took our order I never saw her again. We waited for over 30 minutes to get our check. We finally were able to flag down a bus boy and he came over with the check. I gave him my card and then he returned with just the credit card receipt. The itemized receipt was gone. Even tho the service was non-existent I still tipped 20% b/c that's the bare minimum I tip. So in total, I paid $100.67. Later that evening, I found my copy of the CC receipt and then something clicked and it just wasn't right. I added up all the food and drinks in my head that we ordered and no way did that accumulate to $86 before tip. It came out to $65 the MOST. I went on Yelp to see if anyone posted a picture of their menu so I could see the prices and that's when I found several reviews with people saying they got scammed and double tipped unknowingly! The next day, Sunday, I called them as soon as they opened. I asked to speak to the manager and the man who answered the phone said the manager was in the office upstairs and to call back in 15 min. I called back in 15 min and a woman answered (she sounded like the server I had) and I asked to speak to the manager again. She asked what was the reason and I explained I think I was overcharged, and if they add gratuity onto the bill w/o telling the customer. She then got flustered and said the manager was not in and he would be in on Tuesday. When I spoke to the mgr on Tuesday, this man had the AUDACITY to give me a little lecture. He said I should always look over the receipt carefully and that people always want to leave "extra tip". I don't mind tipping extra on my own accord if the service was good, but I don't like being swindled. Then this unethical and greedy man said, ok, he will refund me the tip they automatically added. So basically this deceitful man thought he was doing me a favor but in reality they still win bc my tip amount was calculated based on the total amount which already included the tip they added on. He didn't even seem surprised, like he receives calls about this often. This restaurant is very underhanded and sus. And I'm definitely not the only person who fell for their double tipping scam. I mean to remove the itemized receipt and just present a CC receipt with an empty tip line is definitely planned and done on purpose. This is definitely not an isolated incident. Today I stopped by El Patron to have a quick bite and a drink at the bar. I came with my adult daughter and son in law. I have been here many times including my birthday 2 weeks ago with my family. We live 5 minutes away so its just a quick drive away. I have always had good service and great food . We always sit at a table but today we sat at the bar since we were not having full meals. I am highly disappointed with the service. The barmaid asked my 25 year old daughter for ID and that was fine. We told her she didn't have it on her but it was on her phone. She said that was ok as long as she had another card with her name. That was ok too. Her attitude was not. Grilled steak, fried pork skin, sausage, sweet plantain, avocado, fried eggs, and red beans and rice. Basically breakfast for dinner. *BRINNER!* The steak had a good seasoning, and the sausage had just a little bit of spice to it. All that being said, there is one thing about New York City that is actually great, the food. You can get any kind of food day or night. On this food venture, I stopped in at this little Mexican food spot. The inside has a decent sized bar with three TVs, and a quaint little seating area. I would suggest getting there before prime dinner hours, because a long wait could be ahead of you. The Bandeja looked like a thing of beauty when they placed it on our table, perfectly cooked medium skirt steak, egg sunny side up, moist avocado, sweet moist plantains and pork belly fried up nice, crispy and crunchy. The white rice was moist and not overly salty. The beans were soft, flavorful and OMG delicious! The Combo Patron was a huge plate of Awesomeness! The combo comes with a Steak taco, pork tostada and Chicken enchilada. They serve It with yellow rice and beans, The combo looked like a big mess, messy to eat but our taste buds savored every delicious bite! We were so full from our meals and had leftovers to take home, but for some strange reason we always find room for dessert, a free one in this case, thanks Yelp! :) The Flan was OK and we ordered coffee. Came on a Friday @8:15, no reservation, got seated at 9pm for 3 ppl. Lost 1 star for crazy lines and long wait. Worth the wait ? YES. Once we were seated, we ordered the guacamole chips & 2 margaritas in patron bottles. Almost every table had this $18 drink. We had the passion fruit flavor & guava... I personally enjoyed the passion fruit one more. The guacomole is made fresh in front of you, and the bowl looks deeper than it really is. We had the steak entree, tilapia with creamy sauce, & a huge chicken burro grande. The steak was ok, nothing special. The burro grande was pretty good. The Tilapia, on the other hand, was the best dish on the table! There were 2 pieces of shrimp and some mussels that were swimming in the creamy cilantro sauce. What better way to celebrate my nephew's black belt achievement in Tae Kwan Do then by going to a Mexican restaurant - this is Queens after all! El Patron is a good place to host a party even when you are seated next to a larger one than yours they handle the crowds in style! That being said some of the food items can miss the mark. Our party of eight started our with a couple of bottles of wine. One of the bottles of wine we received was "corked". This has never happened to me in a restaurant before but it is when your wine has a "mildew" funky smell. This can happen anywhere for a number of reasons and usually not a reflection upon the restaurant. It's why you usually taste the wine and sniff the cork before accepting a bottle in a restaurant. Fortunately they exchanged the bottle without a problem and brought us fresh glasses for the bad wine. For apps we had 2 orders of guacamole and Mussels in garlic sauce. The guac is made table side to your liking, spicy to mild - everyone agreed it is a great version with freshly made tortillas. Surprisingly, the mussels came in a delicious buttery, white wine sauce and although the mussel meat was not the largest they were nice and tender - this was served with crostini (little toasted bread slices). The mains are where we ran into some trouble. My Combo Patron had a pork tostada where the little cube sized pieces were overcooked. The steak taco tortilla disintegrated when I tried to pick it up - this was bland as well. The enchilada suiza was a good version. I was hungry so I still ate it all! The shrimp salad was a generous portion enjoyed by my mom-in-law. My brother in law got an excellent half roast of chicken. His mom had an insane portion of steak fajitas - she had to take it home, but she enjoyed it. My wife enjoyed the taco salad, but thought the chicken was too salty and removed it - I thought it tasted fine. The rice and beans are forgettable (I just added this because I forgot to mention them!) The desserts (got our free flan from our Yelp check-in) were decent. The tres leches cake was average. We had 2 orders of flan and it was enjoyed by most. Overall, the the entire meal was not too costly - coming for lunch is an even a better deal! You can find some decent items on the menu, but don't expect to be blown away. I would say 3 stars for the food, 5 stars for the service. We were under the assumption that they indeed included Patron, but they don't they just come in the bottle if requested. That'll run you $17.50 for the large. They were slamming and gave us a nice buzz. Next time I'd order the Watermelon margarita because it tasted like a Jolly Rancher. For my entree I requested the Shrimp Chimichanga. It's a $3 up charge if you choose Shrimp instead of the standard Steak or shredded Chicken. My entree came with guacamole, sour cream, pico de gallo, Mexican Rice and red beans. Oh and I asked for extra queso because I was advised that the chimichangas are not that cheesy. To my surprise not one but three chimichangas were plated and served to me. Lawdddddd, God Bless the food that I received. The chimichangas were fantastic. Crunchy tortillas with a gooey flavorful inside. The Mexican rice was good as well. I'm not a fan of their beans. Came here saturday night with a friend and had a great time. After reading the reviews I was a bit worried but Ive been wanting to try El Patron for a while. When we first arrived the hostess was a little rude, it wasnt until my friend started speaking spanish to her that she became friendly. My friend got a mojito which he said was one of the best hes ever had. For dinner I got shrimp fajitas which were alright, nothing special. If I could give zero stars I would. I walked in here and the waitress barely understood my question I had to repeat it 3 times. I seated myself with my two friends and we ordered 3 drinks. we only came here for the drinks which are enough money to be seated at a table. 15 minutes after sitting at a table we were kicked out of the table and told to the move to the bar because the tables are for being buying dinner. HALF THE RESTURANT IS EMPTY AND I HAVE A PICTURE OF THAT TOO. there are several empty tables and I'm paying for drinks and service, why shouldn't I have a table? this is the waitresses mistake for letting us sit here and giving us menus. I am disgusted with their service and will never recommend this place to anybody, the floor and bar is dirty also. I see mold on the on refrigerators, I don't why I came here in the first. They have valet parking available; however there was tons of street parking as well. I went on a Saturday night at prime dinner time. When I walked in, the hostess asked if I had reservations. I did not but she was able to get us seated anyways. So make reservations if you can. It seems like reservations get to sit on the second floor. It was a bit chilly in the restaurant when I went and I had to eat with my jacket on. It could have been that it was the first really chilly day of the season. We shared a coconut mango frozen margarita in their Patron bottles. It was very delicious and although I didn't taste the tequila at first, the drink definitely hit me later. Their food seems to be a Pio Pio meet typical Mexican restaurant, with meat platters as well as regular Mexican favorites. We had one of their meat platters and I tried the combo of enchilada and tostada. The meat platter was better and the steak was delicious. I've been wanting to try this place for a while now and I'm glad I had. I went on a Tuesday so they had Specials on dishes for only about $13 (I think). I got the skirt steak and my boyfriend got the fried pork cutlet. Both were amazing. We also got a margarita in patron bottles ($20). They were amazing. I recommend the coconut one! They definitely got me a tipsy. But its not that strong for the size of the drink. Will be back soon! read more

First off, I called twice to make a resy, and shockingly when I got there, was worried I'd have to reservations but turned out none of them made it to the book! My group and I arrived on time. Luckily there were just about three tables left to accommodate us. So not happy about that at the start. We sat upstairs which is a different vibe from downstairs. The patrons downstairs were more for bar/counter service and smaller groups. The people watching view from upstairs is cool, especially at the cozy corner table I got just right side of the stairs. We arrived in time to have happy hour magaritas, $4.50. Good price! My group complained their drinks had little to no alcohol. So by the time it was round two, it was past happy hour pricing and still not enough alcohol. We mentioned it to the waitress but she just shrugged us off. We ordered the guacamole app but was underwhelmed. It was good but we asked for medium heat. This had no heat. Also brought this to their attention but all they did was bring us chopped jalapeños on the side to add into it ourselves. What service! (Detect my sarcasm) I would have only given this place two stars but the dinner entrees we ordered made up for these little annoyances. My group all enjoyed their food choices. I had the bandaja paisa. The grilled skirt steak was perfectly cooked and seasoned, I ordered it medium rare. It was soft and just the right amount of red. Delicious. My sausage that came with it was smoky and had a nice crisp sear. The fried pork was a tad fattier than I like but the texture was crisp and not burnt as other places char it a lot more. So I liked this one better. The plantains were sweet and soft. My entrée came with two fried eggs, avocado slices, and rice and beans. Way too much food. I have leftovers for tomorrow! Overall, quite pleased with the kitchen, but as other reviews said, wait staff needs work and needs more people skills. The manager came over and said hi (my friend knows him) but didn't do much else. But we also didn't want to complain since at that time, none of our entrees came yet. Note to Yelpers, the free flan dessert when you check-in, was too dense and not authentic. It also seemed old. I say this because my friend ordered his own flan and his was plated nicely, garnish, and tasted fresher. What a difference. But mine was free. So that is what it is. read more

The food here is average.... Service is below average... They have over 40 different tequilas but no Tequila menu. How does one go about fading a shot or two or even ordering any if they have no knowledge at all of what's on tap?!?! We have had tastier and more authentic Mexican food in the borough f Queens for a lot less money.. Takeaways: (1) I asked for a half avocado guacamole for $5.99 but they decided themselves that a full avocado was better for me - $10.99 (1) The margherita in a patron bottle is a nice idea but overpriced at $20. Drinks are average (2) The bill was well north of $100 for two with drinks...closer to $140... (3) The cherry on the top? A self imposed 18% auto gratuity for any orders over $50....and we were a party of just two (me and my gorgeous wife)....In what country?!?!?!? I will ea my share and pay a lions random for it but a gratuity in the service industry is a suggestion, not a requirement. Summation: Next time we will order below $49.00.....wont be a next time. Won't be eating here again. BTW, 5 Burros on Austin 10 times better and 10 times .... more authentic. If I could give this restaurant 0 stars I absolutely would. I've been here many times in the past, but after our experience today I will NEVER EVER order from or eat here again. And neither should you. I pre-ordered our food for tonight for delivery at 6pm on Grubhub. I placed the preorder at 10am. At 3:30pm I called, to make sure they did receive our order and spoke to someone who confirmed my name, address and all the items in my order. 6pm came and went- my card was charged $75 for the food, and no delivery. I called Grubhub and my order was cancelled because they were closed and "not accepting any more orders"- then my fiancé drove by not 30 mins later and take out bags were being brought in and out of the VERY OPEN restaurant. Lazy, awful service. Will never come here again. read more
