For years I have meant to write this review, but my most recent experience was so profound I can no longer hold off. The name is... exactly.. what it is. This is the place to go for your midnight munchie. A judgement free zone to indulge in whatever is calling your name. Certainly NOT the place to calorie count. I am a big fan of the esquite with hot Cheetos (elote but in a container, easier to eat imo and more of it) and of course the ice cream. The beautiful, beautiful thrifty ice cream. But this is no normal scoop.. these are monstrous scoops that leave you thinking, "Okay rocky road needs to be on the bottom so that I can eat the bubble gum right now and put the rest in the freezer!" Parking is easy, the guy who works there greeted us with something to the effect of "who is ready for a fun time?" We had no idea how fun it was about to get haha. Came here with my kids after visiting Carved at the Descanso Gardens. It was our 1st time here and we got a little bit of everything. So much to choose from, love the variety of different kinds of items. From Thrifty's ice cream to fresh cut fruit, and agua frescas to fresh cut corn to make esquites! Kids loved the fact they could pair their ice cream with either concha, cookies or churros. Didn't mind the prices cause the quality of their food and drinks matched! Everything was made to order. Very friendly worker, wish I got her name but she definitely helped with these picky kids! Hahaha appreciate the patience she had!! Words can't describe how horrible this place is. I got the nastiest waffle I have ever tried. Nothing like the picture. Missing all the toppings and the only topping i requested it didn't have which was syrup it had. I've only ever ordered through Postmates, but every single time the food is fresh, flavorful, and just what I was craving. They never miss! Everything I've tried has been delicious and satisfying, and the portions are perfect. Even through delivery, the quality is consistently amazing which honestly makes me want to visit in person ASAP because if it's this good delivered, I can only imagine how incredible it must be fresh from the kitchen. We were very excited when we found the page for this spot. We are big fans of fruterias and wanted to come check out a new spot for some dulces. The place itself is pretty cool, interesting art and a good layout. Their menu is visible and easy to navigate. First reaction we both had was wow, everything is expensive. We put that on hold and decided to try out our favorites. We ordered a magonada and churros. We've had mangonadas probably 20 different places and understand people serve it up a little differently depending on where you're at. As he was almost done making it the guy behind the counter said "hey I'm out of mango, do you want a couple pieces of strawberry or watermelon instead?". You would think when someone orders mango that would be the time to tell them you don't have mango? This was a large cup full of some kind of mango puree, not ice cream and a ton of chamoy with three small pieces of fruit on top. Normally you'd find a scoop of mango ice cream covered in fresh diced mango. Even though I didn't look like what I've had a million other places, decided to give it a try. It had a strange almost chemical taste. Something was wrong It was bitter we both tried it and threw it away. $14 for three spoonfuls of disappointment. I almost ordered the concha ice cream sandwich but saw the conchas in plastic pouches, not fresh. With so many good panederias around making them fresh everyday, I just can't bring myself to eat something like that. The churros were decent, but the picture on the menu showed a cup full of ice cream, whipped cream and sauce with churros stuck in it. What I got was one scoop of ice cream a little bit of drizzle, two strawberries and two churros cut in half probably from a Costco box. This was okay if I had paid $7, but for 14 I expected more. I know where I can get churros made fresh while I watch that are way better and cost less. We wanted to love this place. It just wasn't very good especially at the high prices - we won't be back. read more

They used cheap chocolate that hardens when it cools down rather than using something like Nutella. Making it such a hassle to eat. The strawberries were wet. My husband took one bite & he was out. I got the ick & stopped eating it too. Also, no pistachio butter.Very dry and unpleasant. For the price, you don't get what you paid for. Will never return. They sell better ones on the weekend at Americana by the mall entrance. That one tastes so delicious that I can't wait to go back. And it's in a much bigger cup with soft chocolate, pistachio butter, fresh dry strawberries, and sprinkle of real pistachios on top. For the same price !! Not very professional leaving condescending Responses to customers as an owner. And I said something LIKE Nutella. Please read carefully. And the chocolate was so hardened we couldn't eat it. I was so excited to this place because it was conveniently nearby but I will tell you all the prices here are absolutely insane for fake authentic Hispanic snacks. As you first enter it seems very authentic with the ambiance but after we received our drinks I've never been more disappointed. The Mangonada was a prep-made slushee with very little chamoy or spice. It lacked flavor and the authenticity I was expecting for $13 drink. She took my order and let me know it would be a bit of a wait. I told her it was okay I was willing to wait. I ordered 2 esquites, gummies, and hot Cheetos. After she finished the order before mine she knocked my order out quickly. The food was bomb, the gummies were good too! They definitely need more people on the weekends to help with the busy time, that's why I didn't give them the 5 stars. Everything is here for your late night cravings!!! I've had their biónico, concha ice cream sandwich, nachos and dessert waffle. I'm so sad this location doesn't offer the cotton candy burrito but I digress. The biónico is a fruit parfait like medley of sweet flavors. The portion was huge I had to eat it in two servings. The dessert waffle was also very good. I wish they had put the whipped cream on the side like they did for the other liquid toppings because it got a little soggy but besides that it was very tasty. The concha sandwich comes with Thrifty ice cream so that's an extra treat. Absolutely my favorite on the menu. Lastly how could anyone go wrong with nachos lol crunchy chips with so much nacho cheese my mouth is watering. I have been here a couple times before and the experience has been pleasant. Food was decent and employees were friendly. It had been a couple months since we last visited El Munchies and tonight we were thoroughly disappointed and will not be returning. As we waited in line I noticed the employee pictured here was clearly not happy to be there. She had an attitude and was impolite. When it was our turn to order she was clearly bothered at our requests (no chamoy or candy in my kids drink) and let us know they were out of everything else we requested. No nacho cheese, fridge wasn't working so the drinks were warm, and no aguas frescas. We did show our disappointment but ordered some other items anyway. She then told us we "didn't have to order anything if we didn't want to" in a disrespectful tone. So we exchanged some words and she told my seven year old and I to get out. I have been a server for several years and could never imagine treating a customer this way. So I thought she must have just been having a bad day, but I checked the reviews on here and sure enough others have complained about this same person. Sad to see a small business being affected by a single individual. And by the way yes we did also notice that strong funky smell upon walking in. My brother left the store and my daughter buried her face in my arm and pinched her nose to avoid it. If you pull up and see this individual don't let her ruin your evening/night with your family and/or friends. Best of luck to the owners of this shop moving forward. read more
