It's a bakery shop located at the corner spot of a shared plaza with limited parking. They carry a large variety of bakery and pastry stuff, and the staff working here are very friendly. Monday afternoon was the first time I'd been back here in a while and it was literally the first time I have EVER gotten soft concha's. I don't know if they had just delivered or what but I never had a concha at this location as fresh as I did on Monday. I stopped coming here because they are always hard and I never knew anything different until I discovered another location that blew me away. To get my conchas now I drive all the way to Pasadena to Chapala because they are unmatched, at times hot and fresh out of the oven. But if this El Pavo continues to have soft concha's I might return and not have to go so far. read more

Food - the BEST place for Rosa de Reyes or Kings Day Bread, a Mexican tradition to eat on January 6 (twelve days after Christmas). Service was good and helpful. I've been here late in the day and the Mexican pastries have been stale possibly from the day before. Luckily this time I came before noon and the bread was soft and fresh so I'm giving them four stars instead of three. They have all the classic Mexican pastry staples from elotes to conchas and empanadas. They also have a little selection of groceries like milk and tostadas (pericos the best tostadas). They have a small fridge of cakes as well I'm sure you can preorder custom cakes. Definitely recommend this bakery especially since there's not that many Mexican bakeries in the Glendale and Atwater areas. read more

I go here for the "elotes" which is the sweet bread with sprinkled sugar on top and cinnamon flavored. I've had these at so many other places, but this one is tops! Every time I take them to work people come up to me and ask where I got them from. My husband likes the croissants, but my faves are the elotes. I used to come to this place with my parents when I was young, best pan dulce in the world. Now that I'm grown, I came back to try the bread again. I work early so I get there at the time the place says it opens, 5:30am. The 2 lady's the work there, arrive at exactly 5:30. Nothing is ready, coffee is not done till maybe 5;45, bread is also just putting on display. Can't come here no more before work, or I'll be late waiting on them to get everything ready. I have been ordering bday cakes from here for years now. I skipped one or 2 but for my son we decided to buy two cakes. I ordered them with solid colors/ plain and I ordered the paws/bones and paw patrol logos from Etsy. I just put them on myself. I was able to save so much $$$. The 8" was chocolate raspberry and the 10" was tres leches with fresh strawberries. All for $70. Where other places were charging minimum of $140. Great place to order from. The only thing is that they gave me a hard time when I asked to place them on top as a layered cake. They wanted to charge me $250 so my advice just get them separate and pay $70. Was just at this location and let me just say that the customer service I got when I called the Cesar Chavez location earlier vs the in person at this location did not match! Cesar Chavez location the girl was friendly and helpful even though I called with questions in regards to the Glendale location. Glendale location employees are rude! 3 females all seemed to have a tone when talking to ppl as well as attitudes. The customers already inside and I ended up having a friendly conversation and the topic that brought us to that conversation was the rude customer service. Also what's the deal with the phone number they have online. Tried calling earlier multiple times throughout the day and it would go straight to a voicemail message stating that their voicemail wasn't set up. Also...Anyone else remember their small roscas being bigger and better looking than what I took a picture of? I know it's been 2 yrs since I've purchased one at this bakery but this is a first for terrible service and shitty quality. Definitely won't be coming back read more

Every Sunday when I go to my Mom's for Sunday Breakfast we usually have Menudo from Mi Lupitas ( GREAT MENUDO), along side that we have pan Dulce. Well this morning I wanted to do something sweet for the office and bring in a treat, but not the usual bagels or donuts so I decided to go to El Pavo on my way to work. I forgot how much I love this place, walking in it took me back to my childhood memories when I would ask my mom can I go with you so I could choose my own pan Dulce. There's nothing fancy about the bread, it's just good sweet bread with real flour and wheat and milk and eggs and no "healthy choice" bread. I also forgot you could also purchase cakes and chorizo and they had cafe tambien. I forgot sometimes the no frills bakeries are the ones that remind you of your childhood. read more

THEY OVERCHARGE. No receipt. If a receipt is included their method is to do the math in their head & charge an overall. You are unaware of how much a piece & quantities. I came around 7 am to try this place out. It's always a risk being near opening time because you can't guarantee if you'll get yesterday's bread or first pick at today's batch. I like to hope all places give the fresh batch. Much respect to the places that let you buy the older bread at a discount. I bake conchas at home so know that after a few days the taste does start getting stale. The workers there were fine, informed me about COVID procedures. The ok rating is more for the bread. I can tell the concha had a good flavor but I could also tell it was a little stale. Bummer my search for good pan dulce in the valley continues. read more

I've been going to this bakery since I was a kid. Recently my parents and I have been going to a different location of this chain, but we were nearby this one on San Fernando RD. yesterday so we decided to go in. We checked inside to make sure there was no more than 4 people since that is how it is at the other location we go to. There was only one man being helped inside so my parents and I went in. We asked if we could get a tray to serve ourselves bread or if they would be helping us out. One of the ladies working there told us in a rude manner that we had to wait. We assumed that once the two ladies who worked there helped the man who was already paying at the register, they'd help us out. But, soon after two customers walked in and the lady who told us to wait proceeded to help them out immediately. We didn't understand and felt silly just waiting there as though we were invisible or something. The woman at the cash register rudely looked at us and said that there could only be four customers inside. The man who was done paying said he'd step out but she continued to look at us even though we got there before the other two customers they were helping out. It was rude and it made us feel uncomfortable as the women were being arrogant and rude making it seem like it was our fault that we didn't see that there were already three people inside when we actually got there before these other two customers who had walked in after us. It's not a big place and every other store I've gone to during COVID-19, the people working there are accurately taking into account how many people are inside. It was not our fault that they denied to serve us and not pay attention to the amount of customers inside so that they could then in turn treat us poorly. Needless to say, we immediately left after not being served, ignored, and treated poorly. I will not be visiting this establishment ever again. I would give this place 0 stars if I could. read more

This is a good bakery compared to a lot of other Mexican bakeries in L.A. I've read some of the reviews and wonder why some people are giving them such harsh critiques . Nothing compares to fresh baked bread from Mexico but then again, what does. I will say that I have not tried the cakes, only the sweet bread. Please note that the bread is made at another location as this is a chain. True, the employees are not the warmest but I just go there for the bread. If you want a complete experience, along with a higher price tag, go to Monarca's Bakery, which has really good bread! I order a Barbie cake for my niece's birthday the lady who took my order said to send her a picture & the cake would be just like the picture. I give this Mexican Bakery 3 stars because the bread is not all that great, plain and simple. That is a tab bit harsh BUT it's because I've been all over places and I have tasted some of the best Mexican Bakeries. But this place is great for where it's at. I'm just being picky and mean :\ there aren't a lot of options but those limited options are either hit or miss. I love conchas....who doesn't? These are hard conchas, I don't like that very much unless I have milk or coffee to dunk them in. Overall this place is mediocre but still good (I'm confusing I know) I will return in hopes of more options... I just gave this place another star because I felt bad giving them 3 stars. Been coming here for some months now, since I discovered it. Today the woman working stole my money. First if all she charged me $8.70 at least that's wat I understood. I bought 6 breads yes 6 three if which were the same. I understand some are more expensive but this means$5.70 were on three breads. I have her 2 $5, she gave me 30¢ back.
