Conchas
Claudia S.

I've been here late in the day and the Mexican pastries have been stale possibly from the day before. Luckily this time I came before noon and the bread was soft and fresh so I'm giving them four stars instead of three. They have all the classic Mexican pastry staples from elotes to conchas and empanadas. They also have a little selection of groceries like milk and tostadas (pericos the best tostadas). They have a small fridge of cakes as well I'm sure you can preorder custom cakes. Definitely recommend this bakery especially since there's not that many Mexican bakeries in the Glendale and Atwater areas.

Pan de muerto

It's a nice bakery. I went for día de los muertos (day of the dead) to buy pan de muerto. Picked up some pan dulce and it was all delicious!

I have been ordering bday cakes from here for years now. I skipped one or 2 but for my son we decided to buy two cakes. I ordered them with solid colors/ plain and I ordered the paws/bones and paw patrol logos from Etsy. I just put them on myself. I was able to save so much $$$. The 8" was chocolate raspberry and the 10" was tres leches with fresh strawberries. All for $70. Where other places were charging minimum of $140. Great place to order from. The only thing is that they gave me a hard time when I asked to place them on top as a layered cake. They wanted to charge me $250 so my advice just get them separate and pay $70. The best tasting one was the tres leches with strawberries.

Big fat hair in the concha
Juan M.

I would come all the time when craving a nice concha, well I picked up a dozen mini ones to take to my coworkers the next morning. As I was chewing I felt one of the worse things you can feel while eating food someone else made...a hair. Not only was that gross but now I look like a moron for bringing in pan that I claimed was amazing only to find a hair in it. Never again

.....on the cold days, they have the best champurrado that perfectly goes well with the conchas

....in cold times like this/ winter....they have the best champurrado.... and don't forget their chicharones y pan

Ask the Community - El Pavo Bakery

Hi Andrew. Can you please update your hours? I'm sitting in the parking lot of El Pavo at 7:55pm and the bakery is closed. Yelp and Google lists your hours until 8:30pm. What's going on?? :(

Actually, you're right. That is a mistake. I am so sorry and I appreciate you bringing it to our attention. Updating the hours now.

Can I order online?

Yes you may! On our website at elpavobakery.com

Does the bakery accept custom cake orders right now? Very Curious wanting the tres leches cake for my baby shower!

Hey Mariana, yes we are! Just come to any of our stores in person to order with a cashier (:

I don't know how I've missed this pastry shop all of these years. I've lived in the area for about…read more8 years and the shop is about 8 minutes from my home. I happened to be at the tire shop across the street getting the tires changed on my car and needed to pick up some pastries for guests that were coming over that same day. One of those guests happens to be a baker so I really needed to find some fresh delicious pastries. I checked Yelp for nearby bakeries and La Jaconde popped up with really great reviews so I drove right across the street and picked up some baked goods. I picked up this big pastry that was stuffed with cream cheese and sour cherries (TRUST ME you want this), a box of mixed cookies and bite sized goodies, and a box of stuffed dates (don't knock it until you try it). EVERYTHING was fresh. Everything was tasty. And it got the stamp of approval from the baker friend. The cream cheese and sour cherry stuffed bakery literally disappeared in 10 minutes, and that thing was not small by any means. I returned to this same place the following week to pick up some savory baked goods for some friends, and the owner was at the shop and was so kind and so proud of his products (as he should be). Needless to say this is going to be my bakery of choice. I'd drive past 5 shops to get to this one any day.

Wow the cakes are beautiful, fresh and all my guests LOVED every bite. The cupcakes are so soft and…read morefluffy...the kids loved them. This place deserves to stand out for their top quality.

Artelice Pâtisserie is honestly one of the prettiest pastry shops I've been to. The desserts look…read morelike edible artwork with velvet finishes, mirror glazes, and incredibly detailed presentation. I tried the Tropical Mango entremet and absolutely loved it. Light, silky, refreshing, and packed with tropical flavor without feeling too sweet. I also tried the raspberry chocolate pastry which was beautifully executed with raspberry compote and chocolate mousse, but I'm just very particular about chocolate-forward desserts. The iced vanilla latte was the perfect balance alongside the pastries, and I ended up leaving with a handful of macarons that were honestly addictive. Every flavor was delicious. Love the outdoor seating too. Perfect spot to slow down for a minute, enjoy a coffee, and have a really elevated pastry experience.

Artelice used to be okay when they first opened years ago. The pastries were refined, buttery,…read moreelegant, and actually reminded me of real French pâtisseries. Their New York rolls were full, rich, flaky, and flavorful. Unfortunately, over the past year, the quality has gone completely downhill. The croissants are now dry, overcooked, and tasteless , even early in the morning. It honestly feels like they changed the butter because the flavor is gone. The pastries look beautiful for Instagram, but the taste no longer matches the image. People probably come for the terrace and the "Paris" aesthetic, but nothing about these pastries feels authentically French anymore. The owner is Iranian and honestly should stick to Iranian pastries instead of trying to market this place as a French pâtisserie, because it is nowhere close to the quality or refinement of a real French pastry shop. On top of that, customer service is terrible. The employees are rude, impatient, and act bothered when you ask simple questions like the price of a croissants ; especially since prices are not clearly displayed. Paying almost $7 for a croissant or New York roll, and $10+ for many pastries, would maybe be acceptable with excellent quality and service... but definitely not with dry pastries and rude staff. Parking is another nightmare. There's no dedicated parking lot, so you have to park on San Fernando, pay for parking, and parking enforcement is constantly circling waiting to ticket people the second your time expires. This was my last visit. Save your money and go elsewhere for pastries -- honestly, even Whole Foods does better at this point.
