The food was very good. We enjoy the Italian Steak Harvest bowl and Cilantro Lime rice bowl with shrimp. Both were delicious and left us feeling comfortably full with energy to continuing driving. The shrimp was marinated in the cilantro bowl and the dressing has a perfect balance of cilantro and lime. The cilantro blends in and does not overpower the bowl. The roasted pumpkin seeds and red cabbage added nice crunch to the bowl. The steak was cooked perfect and was cut into bite sized pieces before being cooked. The greens were fresh. ****They are having a raffle to win a golf bag and golf shirts during the month of August! This…read morewas the first official dinner out I've had since the COVID pandemic started - meaning my first dinner out in a year and a half!! To say that my expectations were high is an understatement - I mean, imagine going out for dinner again after so much lockdown misery (folks, I came here from Ottawa). Let me repeat for emphasis: my expectations were very high. Aaaand, I was not disappointed! In fact, maybe this was the best place I could have possibly gone for my reintroduction into foodie society. We sat on the front patio, because I felt safer outdoors, and it was entirely pleasant. Fredericton is not inundated with smokers on the sidewalks like larger cities are, so no problems there. Traffic is low key on Wednesday evenings, which is when we went. We did make a reservation, though, and it's good that we did because it filled up pretty quickly at dinner hour. The tables were well spaced apart and some had full plastic curtain separation, so they take their restrictions seriously. I was pleased. For appies, we had shaved beef (delish) and cauliflower tacos (so good). For my main, I had the duck leg, which was pure bliss with every bite. The beans it came with could have been a bit more thoroughly done, but I was more obsessed with the meat than anything else on the plate. If you like crispy skin and salty meat, this is for you. My partner had the tender loin steak, which was done to perfection, and my son had the burger and fries, which was full on gourmet goodness. Also, they had no qualms about turning every cocktail I wanted into a virgin (no booze for me since COVID mowed me down over a year ago). Pretty good, standard selection of local beer on tap to meet every need. The service was quite wonderful. The meal took just slightly longer than usual to arrive so our appies were offered free! We were just glad to be out, so that wasn't necessary but we really appreciated it nonetheless. We'll be back for sure!

Anyway, I was in the mood for some fish and chips. Canada isn't Britain, but the Maritimes are pretty close, and I was thrilled to find one that was open. It was a hole in the wall outside of a strip mall, along with kitschy decorations and signs saying parking was for seafood lovers only. I almost ordered some seafood, but I wanted a nice piece of fish, and I got four of them, perfectly cooked, and not at all greasy -- you could eat it with your hands once it cools. Crunchy on the outside, flaky and moist on the inside. Wonderful. Best I've had in a while. Some of the fries were a little soggy, but it was nothing a little pepper and vinegar (white, not malt; is that a regional thing?) couldn't fix. Also, their tartar sauce comes in plastic cups, and annoyingly small ones at that. They could whip up their own in five minutes or less, and save us the trouble of trying to tear off those little foil lids. Despite some minor issues, this was the best fish and chips I've had in a long time. I don't know when (or if) I'll return to Canada, so if not, I'll dream about that fish.
