She sat us on the second floor...waited at least 10 minutes...no waitress. The hostess came and sat a 5 top next to us. Still no waitress. Sitting in the sun, no water. We came down and told the hostess. We went to the counter to get a coffee and muffin to go...we had to be in P.E.I. by 6 and they made it to where we didn't have time to eat an actual meal. I saw the hostess tell the manager what had happened and she looked and us and she glanced back and continued to clean her counters. Never saying a word. Bad management. Horrible experience.

Anyway, I was in the mood for some fish and chips. Canada isn't Britain, but the Maritimes are pretty close, and I was thrilled to find one that was open. It was a hole in the wall outside of a strip mall, along with kitschy decorations and signs saying parking was for seafood lovers only. I almost ordered some seafood, but I wanted a nice piece of fish, and I got four of them, perfectly cooked, and not at all greasy -- you could eat it with your hands once it cools. Crunchy on the outside, flaky and moist on the inside. Wonderful. Best I've had in a while. Some of the fries were a little soggy, but it was nothing a little pepper and vinegar (white, not malt; is that a regional thing?) couldn't fix. Also, their tartar sauce comes in plastic cups, and annoyingly small ones at that. They could whip up their own in five minutes or less, and save us the trouble of trying to tear off those little foil lids. Despite some minor issues, this was the best fish and chips I've had in a long time. I don't know when (or if) I'll return to Canada, so if not, I'll dream about that fish.

I also had a London Fog which was creamy and not overly sweet. The decor is very home-y and inviting and they have a selection of vinyls you can listen to. Gotta love the "Kindness Wall" where you can pay it forward and buy a coffee or leave a dollar amount (like a gift certificate) and someone else can use it. They also had a photography exhibit while I was there. It definitely feels like a local hangout kind of place and I would definitely be a regular if I lived here!

The salad had a good amount of fine bulgar, which was perfect because I don't like when tabbouleh salad is all parsley! The stew is mainly split yellow peas over rice. There is a grilled eggplant on top as garnish and it was smoky and delicious, I wanted more of that! I would suggest phoning ahead if you want to do take out. They happened to be busy on the Sunday evening that we went, so we had to wait 25 mins. for the order to be prepared. The dining room is small and cute. They have a wall of customer's comments which is fun to read. A vegan Persian restaurant is definitely a unique find in Fredericton and a nice change from other restaurants in the area!
