We came here mainly for the arepas. We ordered one each of the chicken, pork and beef. I also ordered a chachapa with beef. The chachapa was the best thing we had. The arepas were good, but they needed something more- a veggie or other flavor to add something else. I love this place! Everything I've tried here is delicious. You can definitely tell it's authentic, fresh yet packed with flavor. My favorites are the empanadas, arepas, and the cachapas! I would say I didn't notice too much of a difference in the salchiqueso and regular hot dog, I think it's just the cheese. I ate half a chicken and half a regular Kourmet burger. Both were really good! I preferred the chicken but I'm a big chicken guy. Also tried the empanadas that were a great little appetizer, again preferring the chicken. They looked like they might be a little dry but they weren't at all and they give a sauce on the side you have the choice of using. Interesting food truck fare offered by El Kourmet with a Venezuelan flavor. We thought we'd venture out and try something different for dinner. We ordered the El Kourmet signature burger. Didn't like it because the patty was so overcooked it was tough. It was seasoned nicely but that doesn't make up for the dense texture. Added to the El Kourmet is a fried egg, sliced white cheese and what looked like a cheap deli ham slice. Tasted like it too. The fried egg was like plastic and the white cheese didn't have the typical melted quality; it reminded me of rubber. And it was flavorless. Both burgers fell apart via the bun because of the overwhelming amount of the Kourmet sauce added. Couldn't finish this and it's disappointing to have a meal that isn't well prepared. They offer tequeños on the menu. It's a fried breaded cheese--like a pastry on the outside with cheese on the inside. It was okay. It's pretty heavy but I will add that the cheese tasted delicious on the inside. This is one place I wanted to try, did and was just dissatisfied with the food. read more

Have driven by this food truck hundreds of times and finally decided to stop. Heard their burgers were amazing and I am so glad we stopped. The menu is small but when you do something right, stick to what works! Their burger, the Kourmet burger ($8), comes with a beef patty, slice of ham, fried egg, American or white (queso paisa??) cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, shoestring fries and tartar sauce (I think). The slab of white cheese is the way to go. To me the cheese, fried egg and fries were the best part. We got our burger without the lettuce and tomatoes (since I was sharing with my daughter) but next time I would get those on it. We also ordered the Tequenos ($5), Venezuelan style cheese sticks. It comes with what tasted like a green goddess sauce. The order comes with 3 sticks but they were very large and bready, but I think that is how they are supposed to be - very different from a typical "American" fried cheese stick but still delicious. Both items were very filling - splitting the burger was plenty for us and we couldn't even finish the cheese sticks. They also offer salads and subs. We will back to try the subs. When we get the burger again, I would recommend getting the tartar sauce on the side. We got our food to go even though they have an outdoor seating area. Prices were all fair (most if not all were less than $10). It was a busy night (surprising for a weekday), but I didn't wait too long (like 15 min) before I was off. After eating everything, here are my ratings: Kourmet burger: 4/5. It was almost perfect. I just thought it was a little too fatty and messy for me. But I guess that is how burgers are supposed to be. Patacon: 5/5. This was perfect for me. Next time, I will order this instead of the burger. The sweetness of the plantain mitigated the savor and greasiness of the ingredients inside. Arepa (both): 4/5. The arepas were very good. These two flavors were recommended by the lady who took my order. The sauce that comes with the Arepa is amazing and takes it to the next level. I would definitely recommend this place. I brought it home and at first I was thinking they were good. Halfway though I was thinking, why so much special Kourmet sauce? By the time I got to the last bites and the fries with that special sauce dripping everywhere, I just wanted to puke! Too much sauce in everything and I just couldn't taste the food anymore. But, on Feb 17, when seemingly every other restaurant in Katy was closed, they were open, and servicing a long line, stretching out into the street. I was really looking forward to try an El Kourmet burger. I heard alot of good things but I wasnt a big fan. Its had a weird smell to it. I think it might have been the ham slice inside. I dont think it was the beef meat itself but something about the burger smelled strange. It was hard for me to finish the burger. I never waste food so i gave it the benefit of the doubt that nothing was spoiled. I also tried the garlic fries which i thought still lacked taste. It was kinda bland i thought. Great food truck! They have TEQUEÑOS, and they are oh so good!! The order has 3, and they are on they are big. The burgers are amazing! I felt like I was back in a food truck in Venezuela. I've heard that the service is slow, but when we were there it was pretty fast, no more than 15min wait.
