Wow! Deli's is a quaint cafe inside of a gas station. At first, I wasn't sure what to expect - however I was wonderfully surprised. The staff were kind and helpful. The food came out hot and fresh. The chicken arepa was juicy and full of flavor. The cachapa was wonderful and so large that I had to take it home. The tequeños were crispy and perfectly cheesy! I absolutely love this place, especially when I have that craving for Venezuelan empanadas. I have been coming here for years and drive almost 20 minutes to get here but so worth it. The empanadas are my favorite, especially the shredded beef and the cheese pastelito. The cilantro sauce that goes with it is super yummy too. Super recommended. read more

Located inside a convenience store at a gas station off of Mason road in Katy Texas, this was a surprise to say the least. Raced there on a Sunday afternoon deciding to satisfy my empanadas craving. First had these because my boss brought them to work so many times and they've always been so good. The est add was friendly, the place is kept clean. The food itself... I was SOOOO disappointed when I got my order. They were not "typical" empanadas they were flavored meats stuffed in a corndog like thick bland dough. My friend brought me here to try Venezuelan food for the first time. I had a shredded beef empanada ($2 something), and she had a queso enchilada. We both ordered the shredded chicken and avocado arepa ($4 something). The empanadas were hot and crispy with good amount of filling. The arepa was really packed and dense. The chicken was like chicken salad (mayo base?) and there was a decent amount of avocado. The arepa wasn't too oily. However I try to eat healthy, so I didn't eat all the breading on the empanada and arepa. Good, but I wouldn't crave it. read more

The garlic and green sauces complimented the food really well. We ordered the chicken&avocado arepa, the homemade cheese arepa, shredded beef black beans cheese plantains arepa and empanada. I'm so glad we decided to try this place out. I was craving an Arepa and my husband saw reviews for this place. Don't be discouraged by the fact that it's connected to a gas station. I promise the food is worth it. We tried the Carne Mechado y Queso Arepa, Carne Molida Empanada, Pollo Pastelito, and Guyaba y Queso dessert Pastelito. Everything was so good, that I forgot to take pics of what I ate at the place. The only thing I wasn't excited about was the Carne Molida Empanada. The flavor was good, but I didn't like the texture of the Empanada. I should've ordered the Pastelito version instead. The staff is friendly but since everything is pretty much cooked to order and not sitting under a heating lamp for hours, there's a slight waiting time. But seriously, it's worth the 10-15 minutes. Ordered tequeños, pabellon empanada, and guava and cheese pastelito. Everything was great. Tequenos were flavorful all the way through. Empanada was much bigger than I thought and packed with flavor. I prefer cream cheese in my dessert pastelitos/empanadas but it was still very good. I definitely want to come back to try the breakfast. Not sure if the prices are still the same but $6 for a breakfast plate seems like an amazing deal for Katy. The prices for tequenos, pastelitos, and empanadas are moderate. I came to this place based on some reviews. This place is gross. The food absolutely nothing to rave about. The tostones frozen! The maduros burned. The arepas nothing like true Venezuelan arepas. I had the Pollo arepa and it was not tasty. The black beans seemed from a can. The full portion was not even enough food. The bathroom disgusting, no toilet paper and I was grossed out by how dirty it was. Not even soap and there was a pipe draining in the bathroom that was absolutely disgusting. I was so grossed out. As a Venezuelan I found the food to be fantastic! I will definitely will be coming back again and again. I has the ham and cheese arepa; the ham was delicious and the cheese was perfect. The cheese empanadas were also great but the cachapa was the best. I don't know where they got the cheese from but it's one of the best Queso de Mano I've ever had. Empanadas also really good. Equally important to this review is the price, which is a lot easier on the purse than other arepas venues in the Katy area. I've visited a couple of times and the food was so-so both times. I've tried the empanadas and arepas and they are OK. The pabellon (rice, shredded beef, black beans and fried plantain dish) not so much, it tasted old and flavor was awful, I make it better at home. The tequeños are way off, nothing like the real deal. I have tried a few Venezuelan places in Florida and every dish tastes like home! I've never had Venezuelan food, so I used the reviews and tried the Reina Pepiada Arepa, something the woman taking my order recommended and an order of fried plantains (which I didn't finish). Terrible place, As a Venezuelan I wasn't expecting anything really authentic, or good.... This wasn't even OK.. Cachapas were broken and tasteless, I think they ran out of Cheese because they used 2 different kind and they were also tasteless. Cachitos de Jamón were the worst, they didn't taste like cachitos at all, and they were heated on a microwave (Really stupid, why were the cachitos inside the fridge anyway?), Now the Empanadas.... UGH!!!!! Empanadas are not supposed to white, they are supposed to be dark golden or brown... everything was tasteless and not authentic. Whoever is making the food is not Venezuelan or Doesn't know how to cook Venezuelan food, the music was just dreadful, Bachata and Reggaeton Marathon... That may not appeal to some people,and that is ok, but if you are looking for some no frills Venezuelan grub offered by friendly people, I would recommend giving this place a check out. I am from Austin, and there are NO Venezuelan places there, so we stopped by on our way heading back west.
