What an absolutely fabulous place!!! Service is great and the food is so very fresh and good. Homemade with care! Had the lomo salteado and ají gallina. Just both so good!! Definitely going back for the ceviche. It looked so good!

Quiet Friday early dinner! Food was very tasty! And very generous servings. Good music in the background! Had a nice girlfriend visit in this quaint restaurant!

A ROACH marinated on my ceviche
Shayla D.

There was a freaking roach on my ceviche!!!!! An entire roach!!!!!! I went there yesterday with my son and left unhappy because there was some miscommunication about my order. I thought I had ordered a $18 ceviche dish called, "Ceviche Mixto." But instead, I received the "Ceviche Mixto w/ chincharo?" I guess the waiter didn't hear me when I said no chincharro. I didn't say anything when the food arrived because I thought the chincharro meant pork? Since I didn't see any pork on my plate, I figured I got the right dish. I found out at check out only because the dish was $30 instead of $18. Apparently chincharro meant calamari ? Well, language miscommunication I guess What I didn't like was that the waiter was non apologetic about the misunderstanding. I paid the bill and left with my food which did taste pretty good. However, I took the left over home in a sealed container and to my horror, almost took a bite of this little guy that was floating on my ceviche when I was having my dinner today. I was eating STRAIGHT out of the container in case there is any doubt as to where the roach came from. So my ceviche was marinated with a roach on it!!!!! I have to say I always enjoyed the food there, but now I am definitely reluctant to have another meal there.

Today I visited this place for the first time, which was recommended to me by a Peruvian friend. The food is excellent, very well cooked and with a very appetizing flavor. The attention was terrible, the wait time was very long and they forgot one of my orders and I had to remind the waiter after getting tired of waiting, like 20 minutes after they brought the first plate. The prices are ridiculous, too expensive. I am not coming back anymore.

Causa Limena (tuna)

Superb! From the food to the service, Sur checked all of the boxes and has my vote for best Peruvian in Greater Houston! We ordered Causa Limena with Tuna, Ceviche de Pescado, and Arroz con Mariscos. The Causa was simple sophistication, the ceviche with two varieties of corn hit the spot, and the Arroz was beautifully flavored. Constructive criticism: the fish in the ceviche could have been cut into smaller (more dainty) pieces and the mussels/shelled seafood could have been placed on top of the rice in Arroz con Mariscos, instead of being mixed in and getting filled with soft grains of rice (making opening and eating from the shells difficult). Our waitress was very sweet and always smiling. All in all: loved going and eating at Sur!

By far, the best Peruvian restaurant in the Houston vicinity that I know of, and I have been to a number of them. The staff is very friendly and though the food is a bit pricey, it is worth every dollar, plus they serve large portions. The causa, limeña, papa a la huancaina and ceviche make the perfect appetizers. I highly recommend their lomo saltado or tallarín a la Huancaina con lomo. The beef tenderloin is alive with flavor in both dishes. Of course you can't go wrong with any seafood dishes they serve. My family and I have come here many times and plan on coming back over and over.

A local hole in the wall, family owned, delicious dinner spot! We are in town for a wedding so figured we would try a local spot near our hotel. Everything was delicious! Staff is kind and attentive! Food is authentic, flavorful, and served beautifully presented as well. Definitely recommend this place if you love Peruvian cuisine (or would like to try it).

After visiting a few years ago, I felt it was time to come back with my daughter on a school night. The place was pretty quiet on a Thursday night, but still charming inside. I ordered the Saltado de Pollo, the Papa a La Huancaina appetizer to share with her and the Tallarin Verde kids plate. Saltado de Pollo - I had honestly forgotten Peruvian food features a lot of Chinese and Japanese influences. This was basically a pricier version of Americanized-Chinese food, chicken with vegetables and rice. The chicken was a bit tough though the veggies were cooked just right. I simply ordered the wrong thing as I think the seafood or red meat choices would have been better. Papa a La Huancaina - here was a pretty tasty potato appetizer but note that it's served cold. The sauce is like a slightly spicy Hollandaise and overall the dish works well to share. Tallarin Verde - the pesto was super smooth and green and pasta was cooked well. My daughter did like this very rich pasta dish though the portions overall are so big you'll likely have leftovers to take home. The big thing to note is this place is BYOB including wine. I have a feeling that their portion sizes are inflated to justify higher menu prices because they don't have the alcohol sales that normally help keep the lights on in most restaurants. Next time we come back here it's going to have to be with a bottle of wine on a dinner night when we aren't rushed.

I have been eyeing Pacha Nikkei for the longest time and finally got the chance to go during lunch…read more They are located in westchase area in Houston and specialize in Japanese Peruvian fusion. I believe the chef also cooks for the Peruvian embassy here sometimes in Houston. The inside of their restaurant is decorated in a very intimate way with cultural aspects from the two countries. You already know I HAD to get ceviche when coming to a Peruvian restaurant. I got the ceviche chalaco, which includes mahi-mahi, octopus, shrimp, racoto-aji leche de Tigre, choclo, sweet potato puree, cancha, topped with fried cuttlefish. It has a nice citrus flavor and the leche de Tigre base is soo good. I actually really liked the mahi-mahi, and the fried cuttlefish was fried to perfection with the fish inside still being soft and delicious. That sweet potato puree really elevates the dish as well, it helps counter the citrus flavor but adds another dimension of flavor. My friend got the lomo saltado and it was so so good. The beef was so tender and easy to chew. The soy-oyster sauce they use makes this dish soooo so good. I love the steak fries drenched with the sauce too. I got the arroz con Mariscos. I remember they used to put squid ink in the rice back then. They infuse the rice with aji Amarillo (green pepper sauce?) and top it with shrimp, clams, mussels, octopus, cod, and sarza criolla (vinegar onions). It's basically a seafood paella. This was actually pretty mild in flavor compared to the lomo saltado. The rice was good and almost creamy like but I don't think I was a fan of the corn/bean like pieces in the rice? The seafood itself was good as well, especially the shrimp. If you come here you need to for sure get the ceviche and lomo saltado. They also have sushi rolls that you can order as well, they seem like very unique ones too

The ambience was also nice- apparently there is dancing on some nights? Nice mix of Japanese and Peruvian foods. Also had the sushi, which was delicious. Overall, very solid restaurant. This time I called in an order for tallarines saltados and two whole chickens for my family. They told me it would be ready in an hour, which was fine. When I arrived to pick it up, the owner handed me the food and casually said he replaced my tallarines with lomo saltado -- without asking me first. He said it was "a better choice" and that they were out of tallarines. I told him clearly that I did not want lomo saltado, but he kept insisting, so I just took it to avoid arguing. When we got home, the real problem started -- both chickens were undercooked, tough, and hard to chew. It was so bad that I told my kids and family not to eat any of it, and I ended up throwing everything in the trash. I paid good money for this meal, and we didn't get to eat at all. Changing an order without consent and serving raw chicken is not acceptable. I won't be coming back.
