Empanadas Lechona is amazing and so is the ground beef/raisin (forgot the name) which tastes similar to something I had from a friend in Argentina. I've always driven past this little shop, but I finally took the time to stop by the other day. I visited around 1 PM, and despite it being midday, there were still plenty of sweets and empanadas to choose from. The pricing was great, and I decided to try a variety of empanadas. I ordered two Empanadas Bogotanas (filled with ground beef, rice, chicken, and egg), two Empanadas de Lechona (pork), and two Empanadas Colombianas (beef and potato). I might have mixed up the last two, but based on my memory, that's what I tried. My favorite was definitely the empanadas with beef and potato--they were perfectly crispy, well-seasoned, and fresh! Saw this place as we were dropping some donations off at Goodwill and decided to stop by. The menu posted inside is very out of date so a lot of the items weren't available anymore. There are a few empanada options which were not clearly explained to us so we only ended up trying the Colombian empanadas. They were tasty but lacking meat. Customer service is almost non existent if not downright rude. I see no need to subject myself to an uncomfortable experience when there are competitive alternatives close-by. Visited this location a few times and their cups of coffee and chocolate are great. Regarding their empanadas though a bit pricey, their "carne con pasas" is my favorite. Aside from their empanadas, they also offer other Colombian favorites such as la "Bandeja Paisa". Seating space is somewhat limited though we didn't encounter any problems during our visit. Nevertheless, I could see this becoming an issue on busier times throughout the week. So why the 2 stars you might ask? Well I think that a kind and friendly customer interaction is key to the success of any business. Unfortunately the lady who attended us lacked that important quality in my opinion. I pulled up my trusty yelp app and saw a place within .1 miles of my location that had a 4 star average! And even a 5 star from an elite yelper! I was sold. When I finally sat down and got a chance to read over the reviews, I realized they were very vague and generalized reviews with no real direction besides, really good empanadas, but not which ones? I figured I'd get a sampling of a few. I got the beef, chicken, and a pork one. The shells were all different for each of the different types. This was odd for me.. Than again my only experience with empanadas was Marin's and I want to say those are very Americanized? But I do enjoy those. I feel like coming here in the evening for dinner was a bad choice. They might have great empanadas for lunch because they are fresh, but for dinner you're stuck with what's left over. Meaning they have been under heat lamps or in the display case all day. The shells were all stale. I do enjoy how Marin makes them fresh for you. I'm giving them 2 because I give them the benefit of the doubt that I came at the wrong time. The only reason I found this place is because of Yelp! I have been in Katy for 8 years and never discovered this little gem. Being a native from Southern Ca I am use to lots of different types of foods which Katy severely lacks! This place looks like a small donut shop and is about the size of one too. But once you step through the front door you almost forget you are still in America! The workers there mainly speak Spanish, which I thought was cool since after all, these are Columbian Empanadas! I'm sure they could understand me but found my self reaching way back to my high school Spanish class to improve communications. There was a little TV mounted on the was behind the counter playing World Cup soccer. I wish I had time to stay and eat there so I could feel as if I were in South America, but I had to quickly return home to feed the kids! I ordered 3 different types of empanadas that I photographed. 1. Columbian Empanada that was meat and potato. Only $1 each and was deciduous. Crispy on the outside and warm and soft on the inside. 2. Chicken Empanada with a pastry exterior. This was the most expensive at around $1.75 each. This was my least favorite since it only had shredded chicken inside and not much else but at almost twice the cost of the meat and potato I preferred the other for both flavor and price. 3. I will just call this Empanada #3 since I don't recall the name and not sure of the exact ingredients. I believe it also had meat, potato and rice but either way it was wonderful! I think it was only $1-$1.25 each and again, a bargain these days! I think this was the most flavorful out of all 3 and recommend too! 4. Pan con queso (bread with cheese)- at only $1 each I had to try something else. It was okay and was a large portion for only a buck. If I only had $5 for breakfast and wanted to get full, I would order this with an Empanada and coffee. They had so many interesting other items behind the display case, it was like a donut shop but with many more interesting items! If you are sick of the same old food places in Katy and have an adventurous pallet like me, then this place is worth a try! With so many items under a buck you have nothing to lose so give it a try! I hope we get more small mom and pop places like this around Katy that serve something different and good. I will be back to try more!!! read more

We were driving around one morning and found this little bakery called Colombian Empanadas. My husband is Colombian, and we're taking a trip to Colombia next year. In efforts to get to know his culture, and experience some new foods, we stopped in to try some of their breads, pastries and empanadas. My husband's parents will bring back breads for me to try when they visit Colombia, so I was excited to try freshly baked bread. I was a little intimidated when I walked in, but as we looked over their selection and talked to the woman who worked there, we were instantly made to feel at home. The service was great, and the food was really good. Some of my favorite items that I've tried so far were the pandebono, buñuelos, and their beef empanadas w/ lime.This place is a little hidden treasure in Katy, and we'll definitely be back for more. read more

They range from $1.25 - $2.00 each and are that size of a fist. Ask for them to make it fresh so you can take it home. Just want to say that service is much better when the owner is not the there. 3 stars just because their "buñuelos" (chesee balls) are so bad, no flavor at all, poor quality. Their Lechona empanadas are getting bad again, it happened like 6 months before, they fixed them and then bad again. I hope this comment help them to improve their food and keep up in service. I used to come here years ago for buñuelos and empanadas. Food was good and service was nice back then. I went this morning and will never return not only is the food dry now but the new girl there and the owner offered terrible service. No greeting and no smile unless they know u. I also realized that they charged me up front while everyone else in the place paid after they ate. When I ordered my food she immediately began to grab bags to pack. I told her "its to stay" and she turn around w a disgusted look in her eyes and said "you're staying?". I know im not a regular here anymore but i can tell the others who were sitting were. They were smiling and joking with them from the counter but not a greeting or any attention towards us. When everyone would leave they offered a warm "thank you, goodbye" to each customer. I would do no stars. Just bought some bread and a buñuelo at 0830am. The bread was burnt, hard and tasted old. The buñuelo was burnt. The service was rude. After getting off shift working 36 hours, I wanted some bread. Even after warming it up for a few seconds they both were still hard. Unfortunately this is the worse Colombian spot in Houston. Pastries are almost always stale. The pan de Bono's are super dry and not cheesy at all. Do not get the Cheese arepa. They will give you a dry thick arepa with a little bit of cheese inside. It's actually pretty embarrassing to even call this place Colombian. The customer service is bad. Especially if you get the male, he hasn't learned how to smile or be nice(he's part owner too). Please if you want to try out Colombian food Do Not come to this place. It is no where near an actual representation of how good our food is. If you're Colombian well then you really have no reason to be coming or you'll be super disappointed like the rest.
