Came on a Saturday night and it was pretty empty. Only 1 or 2 table aside from us and one waiter. Ordered bandeja paisa full order to split among my bf and I. It was enough to feed both of us. The portion was huge. The waiter service was ok, he did apologize for not being attentive. However I believe what seems to be a manager chatting at the lounge area and did in fact saw me look around several times and raised my hand up for attention. He did not acknowledge me. My bf also witness the manager being "that type". There was a customer needing assistance checking out at the front and instead of helping that customer he told the only waiter at the restaurant to help the customer when he's already there and could've lend a hand. I went there with several friends and the food and service was great! The servers were extremely patient with our large group and they answered every question we had. The food was brought out fast and everything tasted divine! We loved the buñuelos, the empanadas, and even the coconut lemonade was so delicious! Everyone loved their main entre as well! Also, the gentlemen serving us helped provide plates, spoons, and cutting utensils for the cake we had brought to celebrate. It was an over all great experience. If you want a great ambiance and great food I highly recommend. The music was tasteful also. It's been few years since we've been here. Good to see they survived COVID. As usual the food was excellent. I got delicious steak. Cooked just right. Wife got steak also different style. The only downside to our visit. I got attitude when I asked for refill for our guest and me. Instead of getting our drinks she was gonna show me who's boss. I Called to place an order to go for a small soup of the day. They only have medium or large. I asked for the price of the medium and i was told that it was including tax around $20.00 dollars. I couldn't believe that they can charge that shocking amount of money for a simple soup. Also a TAMAL that they said is large wish in fact is NOT the price with taxes is around $18.00 dollars. I was here once for the empanadas and decided to come back for dinner with the family. I ordered the kids sausage (chorizo) and steak for the other one. It came with rice and either beans or lentils. Both kids loved their food. I ordered a bandeja paisa (the smaller portion) and it was so big and generous we had a ton of food left. We also ordered sobrebarriga with rice and beans. The food was fresh and well prepared. We finished off with some amazing vanilla flan and rice pudding. The flan was so good we decided to get a second one to go. Tbh it's a hit or miss. One of the managers is kinda rude. The empanadas (usually 1.00-1.50) are over priced. It's super bright in the restaurant and it makes for an awkward vibe. One time I asked for "un jugo de lulo en leche" and the milk was expired or something because it tasted super off. Be careful expired products!!! I stopped by yesterday since I went to Costco and it was closed. I ordered the Bandeja Paisa which was good, good portions and well made. But I also got a bag of cookies I think they're called Polvorosas. Well, I didn't try them until this morning. After just one bite I noticed it was really hard. I then start looking for the expiration date and found it. They had an expiration date of February 25 and today is March first!! Even if that's not the expiration date and it's the date they were made it's still too old for cookies. Bakery items aren't supposed to be kept for that long! What a ripoff!! The food was amazing and if anything, if you order the cheese empanadas... you are going to be set. You cannot come here and not get them. Got the nice Bandeja paisa which is sort of a sampler, it comes in 2 sizes, medium and large (regular). If you filled up on empanadas, get the medium. The steak was nice, pork belly was good. The black beans was tasty, and I'm not a beans guy. Rice had a little punch of butter. Service was prompt and every one was friendly. It was during the Halloween weekend, so there were even staffers in costumes. This is a Pepsi, Diet Pepsi and Dr. Pepper place. I am so excited that another Mi Pueblito opened in Houston but now right around the corner from my home. Typically when I go to a Colombian restaurant a good indicator of the quality of food is the beans inside their bandeja paisa! The famous Colombian dish here is done justice by it's huge size and by the flavor profile. The Colombian beans are large and flavorful and they take a good 1/3 of dish and it comes with arepa, egg, rice, chicharron, chorizo! The food is OK. If you're lucky, your meat will have a little salt on it because there are no other spices and herbs. What's the difference between Mi Pueblito, Mono's, and all the other Colombian restaurants? Really nothing. They have almost identical menus. Where is the comida costeña? Where is the arroz con coco, chuzo desgranado, arepa rellena con huevo y carne? Nope, all we get is the same ol' same ol' bandeja paisa. Had high hopes and they where shattered. When we ordered my daughter ordered the Ribeye steak and cooked medium rare. I got the lingua and wife the tilapia. We started to wait and it seemed like it took forever, even our water glasses ran dry and I had to flag someone down. Our food came and we're quite hungry, my daughter is steak look like a long hamburger patty. It looked nothing like a rib-eye steak should look. I asked her how was it and she said meh. She showed me the inside and it was well done. Would have sent it back but she was hungry. Once I flag a manager down they said they would correct it and then finally our waitress came back out and apologize but didn't ask us how the rest of our meal was. Ordered empanadas a rum and coke and vodka clubs. After 20 minutes drinks arrived. The rum and coke tasted like water and the glass was half full. The vodka and club was also weak and tasteless. Waited 10 more minutes, no empanadas. We left money on the table for the drinks. I'll chalk it up to post Covid staffing. If you like Colombian food and want to have a pleasant experience then I'll suggest you to either go to the original Mi Pueblito on Richmond and Fondren, or to try another Colombian restaurant. I've been to this new location four times and every time I go it seems to be getting worse and worse. The service was slow, but ok. We had to wait at least 10 minutes to get our drinks and another 6-7 minutes to get our empanadas. I ordered the bandeja paisa and was very disappointed. The red beans were undercooked, the meat was very dry, and the arepa ridiculously bland and dry. My girlfriend ordered the bistec encebollado and again she was very disappointed. Eating the bistec encebollado is like drinking soy sauce straight out of the bottle! Super salty and lacking flavor. Lastly, the prices you pay are high considering the quality of the food. I don't mind spending money IF the food is good, but spending $50 dollars for this Colombian feast seems crazy. I really hope Mi Pueblito management could have the time to read my review and the reviews from others, because honestly I love the original Mi Pueblito but this seems like a cheap Chinese imitation. read more
