I lived in Venezuela as a teen and still fantasize about and miss the food. Deli's Cafe opened after I graduated from high school in Katy, but my mom found it and I've come every time I'm back in town. It's been close to 20 years and I haven't found any other place in Texas or California that has such authentic Venezuelan arepas, empanadas, and pastelitos. Yes, it's in a gas station but the food is so good it doesn't matter. In fact, it's a testament to how good it is that my extremely prissy mom will come to eat here. I always get empanadas de pollo (chicken) and pastelitos de carne mechada (traditional Venezuelan shredded beef). The salsa is guasacaca, a traditional avocado-based, cilantro-heavy sauce that's unlike any other salsa. It's always been fresh and delicious every time I've gone. The service isn't amazing but it's quick ethnic food in a gas station, so I don't know what people are expecting...fine dining service?? I came to this place because of all the good reviews, but as a Venezuelan, Im a bit disappointed. The tequeños were old and hard, the empanadas lacked the authentic taste. Even the arepa was a very "watered down" taste of the real thing. This food definitely lacks passion for the real deal. The location is inside a gas station, so its very unpleasant looking. Even the waiting time to get your food was excessive. The cachapas were pretty good. Hence, the 2 stars instead of 1. read more

Everything is good. Empanadas are delicious. The price are normal for Venezuelan food. I recommend mandocas with cheese and parchita juice.

So yummy. The best representation of Venezuelan food ever. Right here in the heart of Katy! Great prices and quality food. The only problem is the hours or lack there off!! Please change your hours! Be open on weekends and for dinner. It is only open for breakfast and lunch at best. The hours are spotty at best. The restaurant is on the end of a gas station in Cinco Ranch. This place is a hidden gem (taste wise). I would have never gave this gas station a second look but my husband said he's read great things about this place and wanted to try it. We fell in love with so much flavor.we had it for lunch 2 days in a row. My kids who are very picky ate the arepas with chicken. The home made corn thing with cheese is addicting. Not bad food, BUT the food truck and some others are much better Venezuelan. Houston is a tough market for Venezuelan, the best I have found is in Miami and Orlando of course, but understandable. read more

One word: Cachapa. I'm not Venezuelan but I have a few friends from there and I love all things ethnic and this place is among the best I've been to. The Pabellon Empanada is delicious and a plate of the Tajadas Con Queso (Fried Plantains with a bit of soft cheese on top) are a great idea for sharing with everyone at the table. I had an arepas (07) and an empanadas (27). They were ok, maybe the style of cooking is not my preference. It is a small place that is connected with a shell gas station. Did not know how authentic it is, but every reviewers & friends seem to think it is legit. Staff was patience and helpful with me when trying to decide what to order. Terrible customer service and overpriced. i've given this place 3 shots thinking it was just a bad day for them but today it's official. . . They are rude and unprofessional! They hire little teenagers and pay them nothing so the teenagers give you the wrong order or forget to actually prepare the food. Great place! Come inside and you'll see Venezuelans sitting around having a bite. It's authentic Venezuelan food (certified by me straight from Punto Fijo) in a cafe style to where you order on the counter and sit yourself down so you leave at your pace.
