    Pupusas
    Melissa H.

Drove 30 mins to get here,, we were staying at a hotel somewhere by Waller, anyways i was craving pupusas fir the longest now and found the closest place and here it was. So came inside and I thought it was like a sit down and then someone comes out to take you a menu but no, you have to order at the front then they take you food to your table. The guy seemed to be the owner he gave us a salvadorian tamale just to try and it was so good!! I orderd pupusas which were delicious! My husband orderd chicken soup and my son mondongo soup i think thats what is called everything was very good we got full pretty fast i wanted to get some bread aswell but last minute forgot service was awsome and food was great!

Delicious! Stopped by here after a hike. They have fresh sweet breads available for to go. I hadn't eaten here before, very authentic. The nice woman behind the counter recommended the mix plate. It's a little taste of everything. I'm not a bean person but the refries beans, omg so good. I finished those first! The chicken tamale with peas, carrots and chickpeas, definitely get that! I'm also taking home some seafood soup and chicken soup, and several sweet breads. I don't think you can go wrong with anything here. I'll definitely be back!

Receipt obtained when I placed the order and paid before sitting down.

I went in to the brookshire restaurant on Saturday afternoon and asked for 2 pupusas and a Mondongo soup to dine in.  I also asked for 8 pupusas to go.  I paid for all of it with my credit card before I went to sit down.   After I was finished eating with my kids I went and asked about the pupusas I had ordered to go.  The Mexican lady that was working the register forgot that I had already paid and tried to make me pay again. She also disrespected the Salvadoran dish by calling it "Menudo".  I had to tell her that "Menudo" has completely different ingredients put in and I didn't want a Mexican menudo.  I wanted a Salvadoran mondongo soup "Sopa de Pata".   If you don't mind eating mediocre-tasting food by mediocre staff, or if you live in the area and don't want to drive elsewhere in Houston for higher quality Salvadoran food, then stay with Magili Bakery in Brookshire.

Great food and bakery! They just opened in Feb 2017. This more than a bakery...great place to stop and eat before we head back to Austin!

Delicious pupusas, made freshly so it takes a bit to get your order, but so worth the wait .

The pupusas are delicious, especially with the relish/slaw. Highly recommend this place for El Slavadoran cuisine.

But once I discovered this restaurant on Yelp, I knew I wanted to try it. It was hard to find the time because the hours listed on Yelp said it was only open on weekends, but it turns out, they recently changed their hours and are now open Wednesday-Sunday. Out of everything I ate, the pupusas were, by far, the best. All of them were great: the steak, chicken and pork. We also ordered the carne asada, which is listed as #6 on the menu. It was basically a skirt steak with rice, beans and a salad. The steak was okay -- a little tough and too done, but overall it hit the spot. The salad had no dressing to my knowledge, which was weird. The rice and beans were fine. Lastly, we finished with some banana bread, which was nice, but definitely not very sweet. I should probably eat more desserts like this that are less sugary, but I'm kind of addict at this point, so I do wish this had a little more of a sweet bite to it. Overall, this was a cool experience and I see why the ratings are so strong.

I tried the pupusas de frijol y queso, and they were very good--the tortillas were nicely toasted, which I personally enjoy. The curtido came in a small scoop (for 1 popusa); unlike most Salvadoran restaurants, they don't offer self-serve curtido, and I'm not sure if they would charge extra for more. The tamal de pollo was okay. The masa was a bit dry but had good flavor. I also tried the ensalada drink, which wasn't what I expected--it usually has agua de marañon, but this one was made with watermelon juice instead. Still, it was refreshing. Customer service was excellent, and I appreciated the easy QR code payment option. The restaurant has a modern atmosphere and plays Christian music throughout the day. They also offer Mexican dishes, which I haven't tried yet, but I might on my next visit. Overall, I would recommend El Sol and would definitely come again for more Salvadoran food!

We got some bean and cheese pupusas which were good with the sauce and curtido - pickled vegetables. We also had the camarones a la diabla which is a shrimp dish simmered in a chipotle sauce. It was a bit disappointing - not spicy at all. The food overall was a bit bland and could use more salt. It was kind of hot during the first half of the meal in the restaurant and they were playing awkward church type music which is not the vibe for when I'm eating dinner at a restaurant. The food was okay but I would not go back.
