Brooklyn has sooooo many restaurants from soooo many different cuisines and ethnicities...enough to make my head spin. It sometimes feels impossible to choose where to eat on any given day. On this day, Mexican takes center stage by way of El Jeffe! El Jeffe touts itself as modern Mexican, with a menu featuring an array of classic Mexican dishes, with a focus on tacos, in a casual setting. A long way of saying we have all kinds of Mexican food! When in doubt, always got for tacos. I opt for the holy trifecta: fried chicken, jerk pork, and fried shrimp. The fried shrimp is easily the best of the bunch. Sure the shrimp is well seasoned, but it's the entire build of the taco which takes it over the top....Pickled onions, cheese, spicy mayo. The jerk pork is what I was most excited about, and although wonderful tender, it simply is not jerk. Special mention to the chicken which is beautifully battered and fried. With that being said, the tortillas on this day, were unfortunately on the stale and chewy side, which obviously puts a damper on any taco. Overall El Jeffe ticks almost all the right boxes. Pro tip : do not leave without trying the juices!

The frozen margaritas are on point here! We tried the small passionfruit and mango flavors and both were delicious. They have really good chips and queso as well (7.5/10). The chicken rice bowl was alright. I appreciated that the white rice has a coconut flavor. I would go back for the margaritas!

I've eaten tacos and burritos from El Jeffe. Decent food. Everything is absolutely fresh but the flavors just aren't very interesting. They should chop the price on the Margarita. It's sweet and frosty but the booze is absent. Prices are reasonable.

Came here for the first time based off a recommendation. I ordered two tacos in case I was dissatisfied. I should have ordered four! They were delicious. I ordered one grilled chicken and one grill shrimp taco. They were ready in no time, maybe less than 10 mins. There's not many toppings on the grilled chicken taco but it is still very tasty and flavorful. I ordered a side of guacamole to put on both. The grilled shrimp taco was very good and had more than 3 large shrimp. I will definitely be back to El Jefe's!

    Fish Taco

The Fish Taco is saturated with some flavorless sauce old lettuce and old tomatoes . I I have no idea what kind of fish this is supposed to be. This shouldn't be on the menu 0/10 The Jerk Pork Taco is amazing

You NEED to try the jerk pork taco with pineapple. I ordered one and then had to get more because I was sad it ended. Then I ordered the fried chicken taco, it was alright. The service was awesome, they are friendly and helpful. The ambiance is laid back and chill, there are counters to enjoy your order at. Also shoutout to the amazing 2000s hip-hop playlist. Enjoyed my taco whilst 50 Cent 21 Questions played. Great combo. Food - 5/5 (basing on jerk pork taco) Service - 5/5 Ambiance - 4/5

Best tacos in bed stuy!! The jerk pork tacos w/ a flour tortilla are the best. The bowls are delicious and 1000% better than chipotle. The grilled shrimp in the bowl is a little odd in texture but the steak one is top tier.

Really good food! Got the steak quesadilla $10. Authentic, speedy, and delicious. Service was quick and friendly. Also got the half n half frozen Marg and sangria. Not very strong. $13 Seems like a takeout only place.

Stopped by again today and the answer is YES!!! Yes the food is still top tier and delicious! Yes the drinks are still hitting! And yes the service is still A1! I grabbed a jerk pork quesadilla and sangrita to go. I was fully satisfied.

I'm highly disappointed this place that once loved. I'm not sure who's idea it was to switch the cheese in the quesadillas ‍ but I need you to bring the Jack cheese back. My jerk pork taco was over cooked and chewy with little to no toppings. Thank goodness the fried shrimp taco and steak are still delicious.

This is not the city for Mexican food, I do not care who tries to sway me. It simply. Does not. Work. The trend continues at this tiny cantina in Dyker Heights. I paid $40 for mediocrity, maybe even a step or two below it. The staff is friendly and cute, and speaking Spanish will get you further, but the food drops off significantly after the promising chips and dip. When I ordered the Queso Fundido, I was looking forward to a sharp Mexican blend with ground chorizo and some extra chips to boot. Instead I got what looked like blended Oaxaca cheese, an onion top, and some very unattractive bits of chorizo that were begging me not to eat them. So I did not. I ate the cheese because the cheese was pleasant, but the fact it comes with flour tortillas does not help its cause. When I ordered the Tortilla Soup, I was hoping for a nice blend of Mexican spices, shredded chicken, avocado, and tortilla strips. While I did get that, I also got bland flavors and a lack of any personality with the soup. In fact, it had a weird, milky, creamy broth that made me feel uncomfortable about finishing it. So I did not. When I ordered the fish tacos, I was expecting a nice piece of fresh fish, plenty of spicy pico, and an aoli to round out the whole thing. The breading for the fish is a tempura breading (bad call), and the fish they use is tilapia (an even worse call). I understand that this is not San Diego, but these two pieces of fish were practically begging me to put them out of their misery so I could send them packing for the Golden State at a later time. I duly complied. As I walked out I continued to wonder. Will this city ever get it right with a cuisine I hold close to my heart? Because right now, the future is looking bleak. At least my food was spared from further torture.

The restaurant itself is beautiful, and I loved that the music wasn't blasting -- we could actually enjoy our conversation during dinner. My husband surprised me with an early Mother's Day date night and it ended up being such a good choice. The food was honestly amazing. We started with the Shrimp Ceviche, Pistachio Guacamole, and fish tacos. The guacamole completely stole the show for us - probably one of the best we've had. The flavors were so good and there was this little sweet surprise in it (I think maybe pomegranate?) that made it even better. The ceviche was also packed with flavor... so good I basically finished the whole thing myself . My husband said the fish tacos were his least favorite, so I skipped trying them. For our mains, I got the branzino and WOW... absolutely delicious. My husband had the enchiladas and loved them too. Overall such a great experience and definitely a place we'd come back to.

We went to brunch, just a group of girls, and decided to try this place. I had it on my list of places to go to for some time and was really looking forward to it. The restaurant is smaller than I expected but was really nice inside. There is a. Ice outdoor area that we said maybe we could try another time when the weather allowed... maybe not. There was only one other table dining while we were. The server came and took our order but never asked if we wanted drinks. We ordered the Guacamole and Aguachile de Pescado to start. We asked several times before ordering if the fish was cooked and was told every time that it was. The fish came uncooked. The Guacamole came with a large chip and a half, there were 4 of us dining. We had to order extra chips which only came with 3 chips and unbeknownst to us, it cost $3. For the meals, we ordered the Caesar Salad with shrimp, Caesar Salad with grilled chicken, TABÚ Tacos but only with shrimp, and the Steak and Eggs. The food was really good! We ordered Other than the uncooked fish, there was no complaints about the rest of the food. Everything was really delicious. We even ordered the churros and they were amazing. When the server returned to take the food, we told the server that the fish was uncooked and she kept telling otherwise. Out of the entire appetizer there were 2 pieces missing. The server then told us she couldn't remove it from the bill. We asked to speak to a manager and was told there was no manager. She appeared to be the only server. Valentina was so rude, she walked away from us after rolling her eye and started talking about us to someone behind the counter. If not for her and her attitude, we would have definitely returned. While the food was pretty good, the experience was not.
