I stopped by El Jeffe in Brooklyn for a solo lunch, and even though there were a few customers crowded near the entrance, everyone was very friendly. I ordered the Jerk Pork Salad from the menu board and ate inside. The staff had great smiles and provided warm, welcoming service. There are two counter seating areas, and they offer complimentary water, which was nice. The salad was flavorful, and the cilantro dressing paired perfectly--it made me want to keep eating. I got full halfway through, so I asked for a to-go container, and they kindly provided one. It's definitely a spot I'd love to come back to. read more

El Jeffe touts itself as modern Mexican, with a menu featuring an array of classic Mexican dishes, with a focus on tacos, in a casual setting. A long way of saying we have all kinds of Mexican food! When in doubt, always got for tacos. I opt for the holy trifecta: fried chicken, jerk pork, and fried shrimp. The fried shrimp is easily the best of the bunch. Sure the shrimp is well seasoned, but it's the entire build of the taco which takes it over the top....Pickled onions, cheese, spicy mayo. The jerk pork is what I was most excited about, and although wonderful tender, it simply is not jerk. Special mention to the chicken which is beautifully battered and fried. With that being said, the tortillas on this day, were unfortunately on the stale and chewy side, which obviously puts a damper on any taco. Overall El Jeffe ticks almost all the right boxes. I've eaten tacos and burritos from El Jeffe. Decent food. Everything is absolutely fresh but the flavors just aren't very interesting. They should chop the price on the Margarita. It's sweet and frosty but the booze is absent. Prices are reasonable. read more

Came here for the first time based off a recommendation. I ordered two tacos in case I was dissatisfied. I should have ordered four! They were delicious. I ordered one grilled chicken and one grill shrimp taco. They were ready in no time, maybe less than 10 mins. There's not many toppings on the grilled chicken taco but it is still very tasty and flavorful. I ordered a side of guacamole to put on both. This place has been on my list for quite some time and I'm and I had friends visiting from out of town, staying in the neighborhood, so we met there for lunch. We chose 3 different types of tacos: shrimp, fish and pulled pork. Seafood was orange colored and really weird... salty with an odd texture. My friend's husband liked his pulled pork taco which sported a coleslaw like tipping (we are both allergic, so we didn't get too close.) He inhaled the nachos, I snagged one or two and they were ok. The juice was super sweet like it'd been sweetened with sugar. Margaritas tasted a little weird and the alcohol content was very low. My friends and I beat the crowd there thankfully, but it was still shocking how busy it got in the middle of the afternoon on a weekday. I had to shout over the music inside to order, which was fine... but sheesh wouldn't it make sense to turn it down for that? I got the jerk pork tacos and the sangrita. My friends and I waited outside to claim a table, and we didn't even hear when they called us because of the music! But either way, it didn't take long. Those tacos were incredible. Placing an order here wasn't the easiest as I had to practically yell as it was so loud . As a first timer, I could've gotten some help but the cashier didn't seem talkative so I decided for myself to roll with a chicken burrito , fried chicken taco and steak taco . Food was ready within ten minutes which is a plus . At first bite of the steak taco, my impression was that the ingredients were nice and fresh and the slice of avocado was a good touch . It felt more like a healthy salad than a taco and I was good with that despite the steak having too much chew for my liking . The chicken taco on the other hand , I didn't quite care for . Too much lime or whatever citrus they use and the chicken wasn't the most tender . Not something I'd want again but I think by changing their sauce to a something that compliments fried chicken can boost it a couple notches . Finally , I had the burrito. Easily one of the largest I've ever had but it wasn't a lot of meat . Either way the burrito was nice and moist and packed with flavor and really aided by whatever cheese they used as that was one flavor that usually gets buried in a burrito. It's easily two meals and the pricing of everything really is what made me round up to a 4 star rating . I've certainly had better at other places. Also, the alcoholic beverages do not contain much alcohol. Prepare to wait a while before your order is ready and there is no indoor dining.
