I tried the Tabu Tacos, and the AguaChiles. The decor and ambiance is amazing and makes you feel like you're in Tulum or Miami Where I think things could be improved is just service, our server Valentina was extremely nice and friendly. We waited a while for our drinks and had to ask for water and napkins a few times and ultimately waited over 15 minutes for our check after asking twice. They ended up comping our drinks, and surprised me with a birthday dessert The place is very charming. Wow, I'm so happy we finally got to try this spot! From the moment we walked in, the hostess/waitress was so warm and welcoming. The restaurant itself is beautiful, and I loved that the music wasn't blasting -- we could actually enjoy our conversation during dinner. My husband surprised me with an early Mother's Day date night and it ended up being such a good choice. The food was honestly amazing. We started with the Shrimp Ceviche, Pistachio Guacamole, and fish tacos. The guacamole completely stole the show for us - probably one of the best we've had. The flavors were so good and there was this little sweet surprise in it (I think maybe pomegranate?) that made it even better. The ceviche was also packed with flavor... so good I basically finished the whole thing myself . My husband said the fish tacos were his least favorite, so I skipped trying them. For our mains, I got the branzino and WOW... absolutely delicious. My husband had the enchiladas and loved them too. I would have definitely given it more stars for the food but the service was beyond horrible. Valentina was about server and from the very beginning she had the worst attitude. We went to brunch, just a group of girls, and decided to try this place. I had it on my list of places to go to for some time and was really looking forward to it. The restaurant is smaller than I expected but was really nice inside. There is a. Ice outdoor area that we said maybe we could try another time when the weather allowed... maybe not. There was only one other table dining while we were. The server came and took our order but never asked if we wanted drinks. We ordered the Guacamole and Aguachile de Pescado to start. We asked several times before ordering if the fish was cooked and was told every time that it was. The fish came uncooked. The Guacamole came with a large chip and a half, there were 4 of us dining. We had to order extra chips which only came with 3 chips and unbeknownst to us, it cost $3. For the meals, we ordered the Caesar Salad with shrimp, Caesar Salad with grilled chicken, TABÚ Tacos but only with shrimp, and the Steak and Eggs. The food was really good! We ordered Other than the uncooked fish, there was no complaints about the rest of the food. Everything was really delicious. We even ordered the churros and they were amazing. When the server returned to take the food, we told the server that the fish was uncooked and she kept telling otherwise. Out of the entire appetizer there were 2 pieces missing. The server then told us she couldn't remove it from the bill. We asked to speak to a manager and was told there was no manager. She appeared to be the only server. Valentina was so rude, she walked away from us after rolling her eye and started talking about us to someone behind the counter. If not for her and her attitude, we would have definitely returned. To start service was great and drinks were delicious. Started with the guacamole which was excellent, followed by steak shrimp tacos and Baja fish taco both very good. I had the branzino for my entrée, which was flaky, soft, and very flavorful with a cucumber salad on the side. My friends ordered the skirt steak which was good, but the refried beans were served on top of the steak. Personally I think that should be on the side unless noted on the menu. For dessert we had tres leches and flan. Tres leches was a big hit! Unfortunately the flan was not good, but the staff handled it very well. They replaced it right away and the manager came over to apologize and explained they're working with a new chef. He even brought over a complimentary creamy coffee liqueur shot which was a nice touch. Came here with my aunt last Thursday and it was great! We came around 7pm and it wasn't super busy which was nice. Noticed they had an outdoor bar area that wasn't quite open yet but will definitely check out in the summer! The pistachio guacamole was absolutely amazing, I've never had anything like it. PSA: if you are going with a large party, be prepared to be there all afternoon/evening. When I came for a grad brunch a few Sundays ago, I was surprised that there were not too many parties considering it was prime brunch hours and the place was cute. Just getting drinks here took almost an hour, let alone food. Upon being seated, We were informed there was no ice at alI. I think the kitchen is super small, so that's why you can't make any modifications (including egg temp/ style- which I have never encountered before in life so you better be cool with a runny sunny side up egg.) Food was pretty good, but it just took forever and the portion sizes were mismatched. Large bowl of guac, with only three chips was diabolical. Since the drinks are unlimited- they should really think about improving their operations by introducing carafes or pitchers rather than constantly coming around with new glassware. All in all, I got here at 1:30 and left at 6:30 and ultimately ended up at L'industrie for a slice before riding the J home. Unfortunately, the evening took a nosedive when, over 90 minutes after placing our order, we were informed that the kitchen had run out of food--yes, entirely out. No alternative entrées were offered, and the meal ended with complimentary drinks and only one appetizer on the bill. Good food!! I enjoyed everything that we ate, from the guacamole, fish tacos and tuna tostadas for appetizer to the Branzino for entree. The tostadas were a hit at the table and a must try. The sangria was a nice fruity, not too sweet balance of wine and fruits. My only disappointment was that we went on a Saturday night, hoping to see/hear from live entertainment, as advertised online and on their website. But for some reason, Carlos, our server, said they did not schedule any entertainment for the night, but did not elaborate why. It would've been nice to know as we chose Tabu with that in mind. First of all, you are immediately transported to Tulum when you walk into this majestic restaurant. My boyfriend kept telling me that he felt that we were at a resort. I won't lie, I was a bit skeptical with the food because usually restaurants with the most stunning decor do lack a bit with their cuisines. Tabu truly has it all. This was my first time at Tabu. I was looking forward to seeing the elaborate outdoor dining space and the Tulum dancers Saturday night. Sadly due to rain, I was unable to experience them. Fortunately the food saved the day! It was delicious and appealingly plated. The short rib mini sopes, the pulpo tacos, branzino and carne asada were worth the trip to Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The cocktails were fun and quite good! For dessert we had tequila tres leches and flan. The top of the tres leches was flambéed into a yummy caramelized sugar crisp goodness! This place was an absolute waste of time and a complete disappointment. I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone. We had a 12:00 PM reservation on February 14th, complete with a credit card requirement in case of cancellation. We drove in from New Jersey specifically for this place because the food looked good online and we wanted to try it for a special occasion. We arrived exactly at 12:00 PM and found the doors locked. No sign. No explanation. Nothing. After standing outside confused, I had to call the restaurant. A man answered and told me he wasn't even there and said he would "call them to open the door." We stood outside in the cold waiting like idiots while nothing happened. I then had to walk around the entire property searching for another way in, nearly slipping in a courtyard, just to find an alternate entrance. I finally reached the bar area and asked if they were open. I was told yes--and then had to walk back around again just to enter through the front door. Not a single apology. Not even basic acknowledgment of how ridiculous this situation was. We were seated, menus were dropped on the table, and the server walked away. Only then did we realize we were given a very limited prix fixe menu with two appetizers and two entrees. This was never disclosed when booking. When my fiancée politely asked if there was another menu, the response was a flat, dismissive "No, that's what we have today." No explanation. No effort. No care. Between the locked doors, staff who clearly didn't want to be there, misleading reservation expectations, and zero hospitality, this place managed to ruin what was supposed to be a special day before we even ordered food. Located in Williamsburg, my friend and I came to this beautiful spot, the vibes are amazing great music, amazing service David was my server and he was lovely. The Manager Carlos was checking on every table which I loved and respected. We tried the ceviche, fish tacos and chilaquiles and they were all amazing we tried a variety of drink but I think my favorite was the Flor presentation wise + taste it's on the sweeter side. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS!! I went to Tabu over Labor Day weekend for a friend's birthday dinner, and it was an absolute disaster from start to finish. We were a party of 6, and even though the restaurant was maybe 80% full, the service was beyond atrocious. It took forever after being seated to even get menus, and we had to ask multiple times just to get water. When the server finally came to explain the menu--10 minutes after we already had it--he asked if we had any questions or were ready to order, but before we could even respond, he just walked away! We were left stunned. We ordered the guacamole and the chips and salsa, but both came with so few chips that we had to ask for extras. We weren't told that there would be an extra charge (which we would've been fine with), but the worst part? It took 20 minutes and multiple reminders for the extra chips to arrive. When they finally did, we were only given 1 extra serving, but we were charged for 2. Speaking of the bill--it was a nightmare. We waited 15 minutes before having to walk to the bar to find someone. Even then, it took another 10 minutes for it to arrive, and when it did, it was the wrong table's check (we honestly should've just paid it since it was cheaper!). We had to go back to the bar again to get the correct check, only to notice we were charged for two servings of chips but only got one. We had to get that corrected too. As for the food, it was actually not bad but severely overpriced. I get that they're trying to create a trendy Tulum vibe, but the price-to-value ratio is ridiculous given the abysmal service. I wasn't even planning to write this review until I noticed that all of the negative reviews on Google were getting buried under a flood of suspicious 5-star reviews. Many of them are from accounts with only 1 or 2 reviews, posting at odd hours. This needs to be a warning: Do not go to Tabu. The experience isn't worth the headache or the price. read more

This was the worst restaurant experience of my life. I had a reservation for four at 9:15 PM, but I arrived early at 8:20 PM. When I checked in with the hostess, she was unpleasant and ignored my request to sit at the bar while I waited. After 15 minutes, I asked Carlos, who seemed to be the manager, and he assured me he'd take care of me but nothing happened. Despite multiple empty seats at the outdoor bar, I was told they were reserved, which made no sense since people were standing without seats. Finally, Carlos seated me at the indoor bar, which was filthy and poorly managed. When we were eventually seated outside, our waiter was confused, and our food took forever. Entrees arrived before appetizers, some of which never even came. The chips and guac had just three chips for four people, and despite asking multiple waiters for more, they never arrived. To top it off, rats were running along the walls, and the neighbor in the adjacent building threw a bucket of water over the backyard, drenching our table and food. Carlos and Atif, who I think is the owner, did nothing but take pictures and talk among themselves, offering no apology or explanation. When they finally acknowledged us, minutes later, they simply offered to move us, which was too little, too late. At this point I just wanted to pay the bill and escape the madness. I've dined all over Manhattan, Brooklyn, and beyond, and this was like a bad episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm or Seinfeld. They tried but the vibes were not it. The carnitas were delicious and perfectly seasoned. This was my favorite dish. Octopus tacos- 9/10. The only reason it's not a 10 for is me because the octopus was very chewy. The seasoning was good along with the pico and avocado that accompanied it but the chewiness threw it off a bit. Perhaps it just wasn't cooked perfectly. The service was decent. I felt attended to but it was nothing over the top. The Tulum ambience is definitely there. The music, the dancers, the decor...it feels like you're in Mexico. We were there for an hour and a half and only managed to get three sangrias each--not because we didn't want more, but because it took forever to get anyone's attention. The waitress seemed uninterested and unfriendly, which made the experience feel even worse. To make matters worse, the ambiance was quiet and lifeless, definitely not the kind of vibe you'd expect for a birthday dinner or night out. At $90 per person ($50 for food, $40 for drinks), this felt like a total waste of money. Food -- We ordered an appetizer, 2 entrees, 2 alcoholic drinks, and 2 non-alcoholic drinks. We got guacamole, which was pretty good, except for the 3 tortillas it came with, which were pretty hard and probably not what I'd choose to share if everything touches the same tortilla to break it apart. I ordered the fish tacos, which came with 2, and my friend ordered the mushroom quesadilla. The fish tacos were small and not so filling. It felt a bit like a portion size meant as a start, not as an entree. The fish itself was small and fried. Taste-wise, they were just okay to me. My friend who got the quesadilla enjoyed her entree. Price -- Something I rarely speak about. Be prepared to be charged an automatic service charge/gratuity of 20%, regardless of your party size. And as someone who decided to just take a year off from alcoholic drinks, I opt for sparkling water, tea, or another non-alcoholic option if they have it. I'm limited because I also don't drink soda. They had lemonade, so I ordered that and a mocktail mojito. I was surprised when we got the bill to find that they considered their lemonade a 'mocktail' and charged $12 for it. It was the exact same cost as the actual mojito mocktail I ordered. I asked the waitress about it. She theorized it had to do with it being made I guess vs. I guess a Pepsi or Coke product of lemonade. I was honestly pretty pissed -- not at her as she was quite kinda--but at the shock value of 12 dollars for a small glass of 'mocktail' lemonade that was mostly filled with ice. And the cost of the non-alcoholic beverages were not on the menu (Sunday brunch menu) we were given. In full transparency, If I had I known the cost of it, I would have probably opted for something else. The ambiance at Tabu is sexy, modern jungle Tulum vibes-- stone walls, a good mix of mood and neon lighting accents, good music and a cool bar area. The place has the potential to be really great. The menu seemed to be tapas style. The fish tempura tacos tasted fishy-- the cole slaw and sauce was tasty and helped mask the taste of fish, but I was not a fan. There was an item on the menu listed as Beef Tostada and when it came it was raw beef (beef tartar) which was never explicitly stated on the menu nor in the description. I think this is an important distinction to make because not everyone has the palate to be able to enjoy raw beef. I had to send it back and I would assume that happens often. The drinks looked cool, they were placed in unique cups and presentations were great. The first drink we got tasted good and well balanced but the rest tasted bitter and medicinal, not well balanced at all. I couldn't drink it. The tres leches dessert was delicious-- one of the best I've ever had. The staff was really friendly and professional but they seemed overwhelmed and understaffed. They were hosting a big wedding party and also had the restaurant open for dining so it was very chaotic. Staff was running back and forth, didn't have time to check in with our table, so we did have to spend long periods of time to put in new orders. When they did check in they were so friendly and accommodating but they really seemed overwhelmed. I do think that with proper staffing and training for staff to manage large events and open dining and minor edits to their menu, this place can be very successful. read more

My experience at Tabu was nearly comical. My friends and I thought we were part of an episode of Bar Rescue, prior to the rescue. First, despite having an 8pm reservation, we were seated at 9:00. After being seated, we ordered guacamole and 4 orders of tacos. When the guacamole arrived, it only had three chips (there were 4 of us). When we asked for more chips, they never arrived. It took 90 minutes to be served 4 plates of tacos. By the time we left at 11:30, we were starving, and ordered tacos for take out from another place in Williamsburg. The food was fine but took forever to arrive like other reviewers have mentioned. The kitchen and bar operations seemed like a consistent issue when we came here on a Friday night with multiple tables sitting around with empty drinks and no food. My biggest issue was with the noise level - it was incredibly hard to carry a conversation over 1) multiple birthday celebrations where the entire bar staff stands around the birthday table yelling, and 2) "background" music so loud you can't hear the person across from you unless they scream. A lot of potential if they can figure out their kitchen operations and shouting/music issues. read more
