I Love El Gauchito! Been coming here since I was a kid. It's a real home made cooking. The Ensalada de Rusa is absolutely the BESSSSSST! My other favs are also La entraña, choripan ( the bread is a little big for the sausage in my opinion) and the short ribs. This is a must place to sit, eat and enjoy! My family has been going there for decades but the service and the meat quality has been declining for a while. This past Sunday was the last straw. This place has 2 sections a restaurant side and the butcher side with seating that looks more casual like a deli. I've never seen anyone eat on the butcher side until yesterday. My mom wanted to go for her birthday yesterday, there were 3 of us and we were told we could not sit in the restaurant despite several empty tables. I've only sat in the restaurant my entire life, my mom as well. I told the waiter I wanted to wait for the restaurant side then he brings out then the owners son. A condescending, rude and pushy little man that just looks like an annoying prick. He came out pushy AF and called us guys(3 women) and said the tables available are only for large parties. So we sat on the butcher side for the first and last time. Ordered molleja, morcilla and entrana. The only reason to come here is the molleja, morcilla, and chimichurri. I've had better beef from other places. The entrana was kind of tuff and salty. We had Sangria which was ok but I've had better. The molleja was good this time, it can be hit or miss with their molleja sometimes it's salty and burned. The sides are pretty plain and lackluster, green salad, mashed potato and maduros. Had flan and coffee for dessert and the waitstaff sang happy birthday to my mom. So now I'm done with this place and found a few Argentinian spots to try in Manhattan, NJ, Brooklyn and LIC. read more

This Argentinian Steak House Restaurant is very small and I had a 20 minute wait before being seated and It was all worth it !!! I ordered the Parillada and the Entrana ; a selection of grilled meats from skirt steak to blood sausages,grilled liver and grilled chicken breast. My sides included fried plantains, french fries and mashed potatoes. Everything was grilled to a perfect temperature with and amazing grilled taste. My friend always gets her meats + empanadas from the butcher shop portion of El Gauchito. I've had it multiple times at her house and always asked where it is from. Finally, I made the journey over to El Gauchito. Parking is a bit on the harder side so it helps to have someone go with you. I went inside and was greeted by the workers. I think the owner or manager was there as well sitting. I asked about the empanadas and he made sure to tell me that the cheese empanadas also contained ham. I thought that was very helpful in case someone doesn't eat ham. The five flavors of empanadas they have include: spinach, beef, chicken, ham and cheese, and corn. They come in a order of 6 empanadas. I ordered each flavor and kept it in my freezer for when I wanted something to snack on. I also had their milanesa de pollo (chicken milanese). They also have beef milanesa as well. I think they were about $7/lb and each pound is about 2-3 slices (at least for the chicken). I've tried their other cuts of meat and can honestly say that they are full of flavor and delicious! El Gauchito will be my go-to place for milanesas and empanadas as well as other cuts of meat when I have a bbq. read more

A decent sized restaurant that always seems to have clients the place has a kitschy vibe that is inviting. I was really in the mood for a steak sandwich with chimichurri sauce (A spicy oil-and-vinegar-based garlic sauce, usually green but sometimes red, often used as a marinade) and knew this place would deliver. Fortunately, I speak Spanish and was able to ask for it since it wasn't listed on the menu -- I was told folks usually take this order to go -- but hey, I wanted to sit and chill and what better way to do that than with a side order of fries and Sangria to accompany my sandwich? It was delicious -- crispy bread, perfectly done meat, and crunchy french fries -- how does it get better? If you've worked up a real appetite you could also go for the parillada which is like your own little in-door bbq. I would have given this place 5 stars if it weren't for the bad service (maybe my waiter was having an off day? ) -- either way I had to ask for water three separate times and my french fry order came late because he forgot to put it in. Been going to The Gauchito for years ever since I can remember and have been treated with the upmost hospitality until the past Saturday. Called and placed an order to go, 5 minutes later we were already there and my husband and son decided to eat in (and have some sangria as well.) Once we arrived we let the waitress know that we planed to eat in and she said she we could not do that since the order was already made as a take out order. I proceeded to let her know that we just called it in and she said we could not stay and eat in. There was definitely available sitting. I asked her if I could please speak to the manager and a woman appeared from the back (not the usual pleasant male manager.) She stated that we could not change our order to stay and I said you can't cancel it and we'll reorder it and stay in because we wanted to stay in order more food along with sangria. She rudely said that this was not a bar. I was completely taken back and said but we ordered she said we could wait for our food but to sit we had to order empanadas to drink sangria. In the end the whole "the whole this is not a bar" was so unnecessary when I am a customer who clearly ordered food. Definitely left a very bad taste in my mouth after the form of arrogance my family and I were treated with. Sad to say but I doubt I'll be back. read more

I have been coming to this location for many years, and for those of you that know the diverse culinary landscape of queens, you also know that only the best survive. And not only have they survived, they've expanded with another location in fresh Meadows! Now let's talk about the food. The meat here is second to none. It is grass fed and cooked to your taste, and it is delicious. There is also offal, of which mollejas(sweet breads) are my absolute fave! They are grilled to perfection and have a slight char on the outside, and a creamy delicious center(enjoy with lemon). They also carry Mondongo(tripe soup) which is worth ordering. Be careful spending your money here. Let's start with the drinks, ordered a Margarita which was very watered down and weak. Ordered the Churrasco Medium well, it was delivered to our table Rare. We sent it back and waited a half hour just to receive the same meat, this time it was cooked Medium Rare. The couple we dined with had the same issue with the meat they ordered. This is all about the grilled meat. The steaks are pretty good and cooked nicley. Watch out for the cheaper cuts of meat which when grilled it can be tough and chewy. That was the case with the short ribs. It took a lot of chewing and jaw got a little tired. Russian Potato salad is just your basic potatoes salad with mayo. Nice place. Good service read more

If I could zero stars I would. Literally WORST SERVICE EVER!!!!!!!!! Our server checked on us one time and that was to drop the food off and leave. we had to ask for water in the water glasses provided on the table and then they only filled it once and never again. The food was only okay too. The Bolognese sauce was oddly sweet and not in a good way. My boyfriends steak was very fatty too. This place is truly a gem. I have been here a couple of times (pre-covid); really enjoyed their entraña and beef empanadas. Today, I was finally able to go back and I felt like this place went up ten notches. They gave us a basket of soft toasted bread (not little slices of bread, but whole mini rolls; so good!) and a complimentary mini appetizer (tomatoes and folded cheese/salami slices with a yummy pesto sauce). I ordered the asado de tira (short ribs), which came with one side (I chose the ensalada rusa - aka potato salad). It was the BEST steak I've had in a while; tender, juicy, nicely seared. And the ensalada rusa was delicious as well. The staff was also very nice and attentive; we sat outside, and they came around to check on us many times. Came here last night for a little birthday celebration. Food was delicious - ordered the house sampler for 2. Skirt steak, shell steak, blood sausage, gizzard cooked perfectly. The service was quick, waited a little bit for the food but hey it was fresh so the wait was worth every minute. The sangria OH the SANGRIA let me tell you, it was strong and magical. I had dinner here last saturday, table for 4ppl. We order the baked beef empanada and the grilled platter of intestines and sweet breads. Had 2 orders of the skirt steak accompanied by the potatoes provincial and sweet plantains. While the restaurant was not busy, we sat at 730pm and we were done by 9:15pm. Service could have been smoother. From the begining, the waiter came by to take the order for the entire table and the bus boy delivered our bread, butter and house appetizer to the table next to us that had just arrived. We didnt drink any alcohol, with the exception of 1 argentinian beer, which i dont recall the name. However, i asked the waiter 2x, which argentinian beers they had and his response was robotic " heineken, bud weiser, corona and it was the last beer that he mumbled that happened to be the one I ordered" The beef empanadas with the chimichurri were delicious. Soft empanada dough filled with a generous amount of beef and a big bowl of fresh home made chimichurri (green sauce) loaded with garlic. The blood sausage was a little bit salty. I had it at other places and although it was seasoned with good flavor, the blood sausage was extremely salty. The sweet breads were delicious, nice grilled flavor, as you know intestines need to sanitized and cooked properly and the ones in the platter were definitely done to perfection. If you need to know, the green sauce goes with everything you eat! We were dissapointed at the potatoes provencial, as when the platter arrived it was nothing but a platter of french fries.(not worth ordering) To top it off, the french fries were overdone and oily! The skirt steak was a good size platter, we didnt order more food only because we had a few appetizers, so we wanted to leave room for dessert. Overall the quality of the meat was excellent, service was inconsistent. I will come back and try the mixed grill next time and hope to have a better experience. Steak cuts are beautiful and delicious. Oh my goodness. Perfectly cooked and seasoned. A nice sear but still pink on the inside. Wine selection matched the meats they had. Since it is an Argentine restaurant, many reds, but also had the option of a white if someone was having fish or chicken. I actually appreciated that there were non-red meat options to choose from. So i decided to give this place a shot after trying out the other argentine establishment across the street. both are similar in terms of quality, however different things were better at each establishment. I order the Parillada completa, which is a perfect introductory course to argentinian cusine. the sweetbreads, the intestines, the kidneys were done amazingly here, they were cleaned properly, tasted fresh, and did not leave too much of a barn yard presence in my mouth, the blood sausage was incredible flavorful and crumbled beautifully as i placed the perfectly held together pieces in my mouth. my only complaint here was the meat, as it tasted a little tough, and was not on par with what the establishment across the street was offering. the offal meats and the sausages were remarkable here, the meat not so much read more

The service itself is wonderful. Most of the customers are locals from the area. The ambiance of the restaurant is causal but yet romantic enough to bring friends, family, or a date. The butcher said that they sourced their meat from Nebraska and were top notch quality. You're welcomed by a complimentary appetizer of cheese, salami and tomato drizzled in chimichurri sauce. We ordered another round ( extra $$$) because it was just THAT GOOD. The dinner rolls were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside & were straight out of the oven. We ordered the mixed grill (parrillada completa) and the #4 sausage, skirt steak and short ribs. The mixed grill comes with an assortment of black sausage, skirt steak, short ribs and liver. Perfect for those who are fans of the liver and assorted sausages. The short ribs and skirt steak are my favorite--juicy & grilled to perfection. The mixed grill comes on a sizzling hot plate and is bursting with flavor. Each entree comes with a side of salad or fries (GET THE FRIESSS, so crispy so good). Did I mention the sangria? Smoooooooooooth just so smooooooth. We finished off our meal with the dulce de leche churros and I couldn't have been happier. Everything about this place is what hopes & dreams are made of. The waiter was very rude, waiters at this restaurant don't bother to provide good service because the tip is already included in the bill! My mom ordered the grilled chicken breast, which took 40 minutes (no joke!!) to come! By then, the rest of our party had already finished eating. The beans, vegetable cream soup and spinach canolies we ordered were spoiled, so steer away from those dishes if you go. To make matters worst, when we complained, the manager refused to deduct these items from the bill eventhough we barely touch them! It came with one side, they were plenty to choose from salads, tostones, French fries or mashed potatoes. I decided to go with the French fries and they were really good. I remember the first time I came here was when I was 8 and my grandma knew the owner. We would usually come in around 7 and it would be filled with wonderful people talking about their daily lives. The setting is very original, as the restaurant is filled with paintings of artists, celebrities, and athletes in Argentine history. The service is great, everyone working there is very attentive and they make you feel like you're important. The food was amazing, it always has been. I've always believed Argentinian steak is the best steak, and this restaurant proves it. I ordered the veil the first and last time I went there and it was still as delicious as my mind remembered it to be. Make sure to order the empanadas too because they're amazing. My skirt steak was a solid fresh piece of meat, seasoned to perfection, just a hint of salt and cooked to perfection as well. The portion size is more than reasonable for a guy like me. I had this with rice and black beans and a size of sweet plantain. This dish with just one side was around $30, such a deal compared to other places and their portions. My wife had chicken milanesa which she really enjoyed, the portion for this is also huge. The service at this point is outstanding from the minute you walk through the door.
