I work in the Customer service industry and the service I got here tonight was insane. I WAS enjoying my meal with my man and we asked for the check he only had bigger bills and 2 20s so we paid with the 2 20s and we're sitting still eating. We got back $1 change and like I said still we're eating. The waitress named Katie M felt entitled enough to come up to us and ask with a demeaning attitude if she had done anything wrong and could have gave us better service and said normally when people only leave a $1 they've had bad service. Nachos and tortilla chips is what we ate because the outside patio was full. If you are eager to get some hearing damage or enjoy the sensation of ringing ears the next morning then this is the bar for you. The drinks were a little bit of the same ok and they were delivered by polite barmaids who were all dressed up for the longest day of the year. It was a dark loud bar that was backlit by the bright summer day, so it made actual conversation near impossible which I usually want when going out with friends. The nachos came with large chunks of chicken and plenty of toppings. I. Love. Mexican. Food. I went here with a friend per her recommendation, and so I already had high hopes. They have quite an array of tacos, burritos, enchiladas to choose from, as well as vegetarian- and vegan-friendly options. AND you get your choice of meat. Who doesn't love that? My burrito was gigantic, and beautifully presented (see photos). I got it smothered in sour cream, cheese, and verde sauce; something the restaurant refers to as "wet." This is a $2 up-charge but so worth it. Both outdoor patio seating and bar seating are available, or you can settle for a classic booth or table. Great drink menu with an extensive tequila inventory, available depending on what's in house. Waiter was friendly but had a slightly awkward demeanor about him, and came across as mildly standoffish. If you order a soda, it only comes with a single refill, and they're priced at $3.50. This seems to be pretty standard Seattle pricing, but I wish the refills were unlimited. read more

Even though we aren't far from Seattle, we just don't go that often because of traffic. Thank goodness everything was clear for Mother's Day, so we headed up to one of my favorite places! El Chupacabra on Alki is awesome. I love the vegetarian and vegan options-faux chicken and steak, as well as vegan cheese and sour cream. I always get the wet burrito with half and half sauce. The bean dip and chips are delicious and I love the variety of hot sauces. I think pineapple may be my favorite. The Good: Location has a nice outdoor patio upstairs and downstairs with heaters. Also right next to Alkai Beach which is convenient. Cool dark vibe inside the restaurant as well. The Bad: I ordered a steak taco salad and it was no bueno. Meat had so much fat and tasted super gamey. Veggies seemed old. Service was subpar to say the least. No drink refills. No check-ins. Was craving some nice, saucy Mexican food and El Chupacabra did not disappoint. Located right on Alki Beach, you could sit upstairs in the 21+ area, sip margaritas and enjoy some tacos or enchiladas. Everyone in my group of 4 got a beer and a plate of enchiladas. The carnitas in mine was delicious, and OH the refried black beans! The shrimp enchiladas my boyfriend got had quite a kick to them, which works because he can handle the spice. If you aren't one for spice then get any of the other meat options. Loved the ambience in the main restaurant! The decor was fun and colorful, and the music was perfectly PNW with some 90s alternative. Good stuff. The plan is to go back after work one night and enjoy a nice cold beer from that upstairs room, looking over the sound. Sounds nice, right? We'll see you there. read more

Coming from Atlanta, I've been spoiled with authentic Mexican food. Granted I know this place is Tex-Mex and not true Mexican. My friend and I started off with the jalapeño margarita and mango marg, respectively. They were pretty solid drinks. However, I found this place to be just meh for the food. We got the Tachos with pork carnitas. I loved the pork carnitas but the tater tots and cheese was just average, nothing special. I can better stuff at Sam's Tavern probably. We also got three tacos: shrimp, grilled cod, and beer battered fish. The beer battered fish taco was your standard beer battered taco. The shrimp was the best of the three and the grilled cod was bland. The view, however, is worth all the stars, though I would imagine any of the restaurants in the area would have that same view. read more

My wife and I have been going to both Chupacabra locations for many years now and last night was hands down the worst experience that we have ever had. Our server was "Jess". She was rude and so unprofessional. Her constant eye rolling anytime my wife asked for a napkin or extra salsa ( we love the pineapple salsa ) was horrible. She seemed to not like her job very much and certainly her customers. It's shocking to see that the Chupacabra is employing this type of attitude. Certainly not what we have ever encountered at either location before. Perhaps a retraining on how the fun and kind Chupacabra culture is should happen for this employee. Solid food, staff and atmosphere. It does get crowded here because it's not a very big place, so if you're hungry, either get here earlier or just be patient and wait. They have indoor/outdoor and upstairs seating available. We mostly just sat at the bar when we came. I would say it's somewhat kid friendly, but most of the people you see coming here aren't family groups with small children. Bartender was always on point with the drinks and service. It was very busy on a sunny Friday evening. They have indoor and outdoor seating; actually I walked passed this place and went upstairs because I couldn't figure out where the entrance is- which ended being an entirely different restaurant. They have minimal bar seating. I had to wait a little for a table, but it wasn't too bad. They serve Mexican food, which was reasonably priced and there are tons of meat and non-meat options available- that's a plus. I just went for drinks and ended up getting the best of both worlds with a mango jalapeño margarita; they have separate mango and jalapeño margs which I love and my server suggested a mixture of both. My friend had a fish torta, which looked like a Mexican banh mi (it came on a French bread baguette). I had a taste of the fish, I liked it. My friend however did not. The service was great and friendly. My drink was amazing, the view is beautiful. Next time I'll come hungry and try some of their food, just maybe not the torta. read more

I've been here a few times and I'm still not entirely sure how I feel. Service is slow but usually quite friendly. This is somewhere you go with your friends to socialize, people watch, and go where the wind takes you. If you're on a time schedule you're going to want to go elsewhere. I like that they encourage customization and they have several vegetarian/vegan options. I highly advise staying away from the mock steak. Mock steak is very unforgiving and the cook doesn't quite seem know how to deal with it. The other mock meats I've had were cooked just fine. The food isn't anything spectacular, but it's good. I always get a mango margarita yet I don't always receive the same product. Sometimes they're really awesome, perfectly made. Other times they're completely watered down and disappointing. Service is as engaged as time and crowd will allow. The food is OK. Prices OK. Don't come here for the food. Come here to order drinks in a great location and vibe and food is the filler (as is most Mexican food). Chips salsa mandatory and all other items around $10. The turnaround for tables is variable as there can be people that sit with drinks a LONG time outside. Sucks for service staff to have this as tips is dependent on ticket volume it time. In summary. Food is good and bar staff is great!! The mixed drinks are done just right. They have Franziskaner Weissbier on tap (May 2018). The menu choices are good and no issues with substitutes or having gluten free or vegan options. REALLY popular in the summers. Don't even think about getting a table on a summer weekend without a wait. They have indoor and outdoor seating with a funky neo-day of the dead interior decor scheme. Try to limit the group size to 4 though as they are not geared for larger groups. read more

This place was pretty groovy and eclectic, which is usually what we are on the hunt for. We were able to walk here from our Airbnb, which was locked when we arrived with no key or way to enter and the host wasn't answering the phone, so we had to drag all of our luggage like annoying tourists into this joint. They were actually really cool about it! (I hate seeing people do this and always feel like such an asshole but we didn't have a choice lol) they put us in the big booth out of the way but still in a comfortable spot to accommodate us and were super nice about it. Instead of a champagne flute, it came to me in a rocks glass, lukewarm, lip-puckering sour, and the champagne was flat. I'm no liquor snob yet but that was some gross shit. My waiter, who was awesome, luckily was okay with switching it for another HH drink. The Dulce Vida Mule: a Moscow Mule variant made with tequila instead of vodka, which was infinitely better. I have a new found affinity for tequila, creeping up right behind french fries and sex. Note to everybody: I can be bribed with tequila. Now for the food. I ordered the $1 chips and salsa and the grilled cod tacos. How do I begin to describe the food in a way that's comprehensible to the target demographic of El Chupacabra? It was as uninspiring as Russell "I Eat Football-Shaped Bread" Wilson's announcement of celibacy until wedlock with his second wife. It was as laughable as Lynch retiring and then coming out of retirement only to sign with the fucking Raiders. It was the equivalent of the 49ers losing 13 straight games in 2016. Probably the most disappointing food of the year that has been in my mouth. Watching hilarity ensue at Alki while working your way through the HH drink menu is the only reason to stop by. read more

Last night we stopped here because it was the only place open around 10pm and the atmosphere looked good. The place is kind of cool and the service so so but the food was just awful. I had a shrimp taco and the shrimp wasn't cooked or marinated or anything. It looked like it shouldn't even be served. My BF had a carne asada taco and again very bland and not even warm. Even the tortillas were not heated just totally cold. I don't think I've ever had bad Mexican food. Really awful. We didn't say anything to the waitress because we were tired and not in the mood to complain but even this morning we were talking about how bad the food was. read more

We were attracted to the place because the signs said cocktails, tacos, and burritos. We thought this was a more authentic mexican place when we walked in but boy were we wrong. We sat at the bar and customer service was pretty bad. We ended up ordering the nachos and it was disgusting! The pork had no flavor and the cheese was nasty cheese that seemed like it was microwaved on the chips. It's filled with olives that we had to pick it off the plates.
