Let me start by saying I love Mexican food and how thrilled I was when I searched the area and found a place that was allergen friendly. They post on website how accommodating they are for food allergies. Me and my daughter are very allergic to dairy, soy, and egg. Upon my arrival, the waitress was not very pleasant when I stated these facts. I asked her if the meat and tortillas contained soy products because they sometimes do. She rolled her eyes and went to go ask. Then I asked about their vegan cheese and she went back to the kitchen and asked, obviously annoyed by this request. When she came back I asked if she knew if the guacamole might contain soy or dairy. She responded in a snarky tone "at this point I assume everything in our kitchen has soy" By this time I was so let down I decided to just get a beverage and eat my own granola bar I had packed in my diaper bag with me. It's a great location right in a Alki just wish the food was better. Our server was ok, forgot the appetizer that we ordered and brought it with our dinner. I ordered the "shrimp" tacos, shell was hard and cold I only ate one and picked ya the others. The burrito was good but needed the hot sauce to make it better. Lame staff. Cant figure out why people rave about the food either. My first visit there I turned around and walked out because it smelled like body odor. My second visit I figured out that it was the servers that were the ones that actually Birds one stinking up the place. Apparently not wearing deodorant is " cool " . Then the 2nd time, I was desperate so I gave in. Food was edible but expensive and very small servings on the beans and rice. A great taco dive bar! We come for the sunny patio right across from the beach, the cheap and yet pretty tasty plates that pack some flavor and some punch! Oh and of course the people watching! I only came here for the bar, but ended up ordering their fish tacos too. I've had fish tacos at plenty of places and i think these were the best i've ever had! i thought that it was just perfect, a little much cabbage so it was a bit bitter, but one of the best ive had! i would love to come here again to try other foods. I really wanted to love this place, but I was sorely disappointed. The décor is cool (sort of a Dio de los Muertos theme) but the atmosphere is dark and dingy (like stale cigarettes) and the customer service leaves a lot to be desired. The food.. blek! They have a very small menu and their food is quite bland and far from fresh. If you want good Mexican food, you'd be 100x better off going to a road-side taco truck. Two stars for a sweet deck and decent service, but everything else was pretty bad. I'm all for a simple menu, but the ingredients they use at El Chupacabra aren't fresh enough to pull it off. The chips were stale, the salsa watery, and we even found a hair in the guacamole. Definitely not appetizing. The carne asada tacos were even worse: just dry chunks of flavorless meat (honestly, I think it's a stretch to call it "steak") with a slice of avocado. Not even slightly worth the price at $2.50 a pop. If anything, I'd come back to have a beer on the porch, but that's probably it. read more

I wanted to like this place, I really did, but I just can't. I usually inflate the scores for places in my 'hood, so I'm giving this place 2 stars for the view alone. So, here's how the visit went...we got there and after sitting for like 15 mins, the waitress brought us 2 half full cups of warm tap water. Mmm. Then she just came over to take our order and we actually had to pay for chips and salsa. Don't all Mexican restaurants give this 25 cent item away for free? Oh, did I mention the really, really, really bad and loud music? Finally, we get our margaritas and mojitos, which tasted like really watery lemonade. Avoid at all cost! One of the worst burrito I have ever had: Both the meat and the vegetables were clearly frozen. The vegetables had this noticeable taste of poor quality, old and frozen food, and the water from the defrosted meat was still dripping from the wrap. Absolutely disgusting. read more

I always complain that there is NO good Mexican food in Seattle - Chupacabra is the exception to that statement! I've always been a chicken burrito fan - but the carne asada at Chupacabra made me a beef convert! They have AWESOME guacamole - and VERY generous portions. Their sauces are great - and I love to have them on chips. Beware - the small burritos are STILL the size of your forearm (compared to the large, which is the size of a newborn). The staff is hit or miss, some are perfect and remember you and your order and always serve with a smile and great conversation. Others I think are new to serving and take your order but don't really do much more or go the extra mile. As for the food and drinks? Awesome! We were at El Chupacabra on Alki yesterday. Weather was great and the beach was busy. Our food was excellent! I had the chicken enchiladas that were so good! My spouse had the shrimp tacos and he enjoyed them very much. He loves orchata which is what he drank. He loved it too! We recommend it! It was noisy but cheerful. read more

This spot ROCKS. I lived nearby and went here about once per week. Food was great, atmosphere is a bit dark but still good, service was good. I had a chimichanga the first time I went and it was good. The second time I went, I got the Steak Mission Style Burrito. The mission burritos are FIRE. Amazing. The steak had great texture and the other ingredients in there were perfectly weighted against each other. That burrito was my order every other time I went there. I've eaten there with friends and they loved it as well. I like their sauces, just make sure the lid is on there before you turn the bottle over. One time I got a bottle of sauce from the bartender (all others by me were in use) and the lid was loose... turned it over and dumped the whole bottle of verde sauce on my plate. They have the option to make a burrito "wet" meaning that they put enchilada sauce and a bit of cheese on there. Do it. It makes a 6/10 burrito into 9.5/10. There is a good but dark ambiance. It's got sort of a punk/metal theme with the music they play, but I'm not a rocker at all and I enjoyed it. I'd say the staff also gave that impression, but I don't really have any proof of that besides some tattoos and earrings--which everyone has. I usually sat at the bar and got food and a drink or two. This place was wonderful! I got the mission burrito and it was excellent. A lot bigger than I thought it would be, but I couldn't stop eating because it was so good. My group also got a few margaritas which were very tasty. I recommend the house margarita, it had the best taste to it. A classic. We also got the fried ice cream, which was better than most places.
