the only thing that saved it from one star was the sun and the view of alki beach. ordered a mojito thinkin it would hit the spot and i got... dirty mint water on ice. didn't even drink the damn thing. it was gross! couldn't taste a bit of rum, lime, sweetness or anything. worst $5.50 i've ever spent. the nachos on the other hand were okay - broiled too long so the chips were all blackened on the edges and the salsa bar lacked flavor and spice. read more

The service and bartenders in this place are terrible. We stopped in to grab some food on the patio. The bartender greeted me with a "you can't eat eat if you with that guy. He can't bring outside and drink in." I told him that the coffee cup was empty and there wasn't a trash can and that the donut was bagged and for tomorrow and we'd be happy to put in a coat. He said, "No. Throw it all away because we can't serve you." I'm not sure what this rule is or how it's enforced but this seems like the worst way to greet a customer and let them know about stipulations on dining. There was no hello, how can I help you, or have a nice day. Thete was only a grumpy bartender who was doing everything in his power to NOT make a tip or $50 bucks. He didn't even off takeout as an option. Listen, this my first pandemic. I'm willing to overlook a lot due to stress, but I am not willing to overlook a business that is so obviously at odds with their customers and makes a point of kicking customers out before they even have a chance to say "hello". Please train your staff on the importance of "hello" and the importance of explaining situations in a more mild customer-centric way. A great taco dive bar! We come for the sunny patio right across from the beach, the cheap and yet pretty tasty plates that pack some flavor and some punch! Oh and of course the people watching! Don't come hungry though...we have never had fast service..can get frustrating. A bonus for some might be some pretty scantily clad wait staff and I enjoy admiring the plethora of tattoos. read more

I only came here for the bar, but ended up ordering their fish tacos too. I've had fish tacos at plenty of places and i think these were the best i've ever had! i thought that it was just perfect, a little much cabbage so it was a bit bitter, but one of the best ive had! i would love to come here again to try other foods. The bartender was extremely nice as well. I came here in the summer, so i'm not sure how cold it gets since it's right next to the water, but Fish tacos, a must! read more

I really wanted to love this place, but I was sorely disappointed. The décor is cool (sort of a Dio de los Muertos theme) but the atmosphere is dark and dingy (like stale cigarettes) and the customer service leaves a lot to be desired. The food.. blek! They have a very small menu and their food is quite bland and far from fresh. If you want good Mexican food, you'd be 100x better off going to a road-side taco truck. This place seems like it's good for one thing and one thing only: drinking, once you're already three sheets to the wind. That said, the drinks weren't all that and a bag of chips either. read more

Two stars for a sweet deck and decent service, but everything else was pretty bad. I'm all for a simple menu, but the ingredients they use at El Chupacabra aren't fresh enough to pull it off. The chips were stale, the salsa watery, and we even found a hair in the guacamole. Definitely not appetizing. The carne asada tacos were even worse: just dry chunks of flavorless meat (honestly, I think it's a stretch to call it "steak") with a slice of avocado. Not even slightly worth the price at $2.50 a pop. If anything, I'd come back to have a beer on the porch, but that's probably it. read more

I wanted to like this place, I really did, but I just can't. I usually inflate the scores for places in my 'hood, so I'm giving this place 2 stars for the view alone. So, here's how the visit went...we got there and after sitting for like 15 mins, the waitress brought us 2 half full cups of warm tap water. Mmm. Then she just came over to take our order and we actually had to pay for chips and salsa. Don't all Mexican restaurants give this 25 cent item away for free? Oh, did I mention the really, really, really bad and loud music? Finally, we get our margaritas and mojitos, which tasted like really watery lemonade. The burritos were not that great either, we'll just leave it at that. On a positive, the place was really cheap. read more

Avoid at all cost! One of the worst burrito I have ever had: Both the meat and the vegetables were clearly frozen. The vegetables had this noticeable taste of poor quality, old and frozen food, and the water from the defrosted meat was still dripping from the wrap. Absolutely disgusting. read more

As a vegan I have a hard time eating at restaurants, especially with my meat loving boyfriend. El Chupacabra is one of the few places in West Seattle where we can eat together and get a yummy drink! I always complain that there is NO good Mexican food in Seattle - Chupacabra is the exception to that statement! I've always been a chicken burrito fan - but the carne asada at Chupacabra made me a beef convert! They have AWESOME guacamole - and VERY generous portions. Their sauces are great - and I love to have them on chips. Beware - the small burritos are STILL the size of your forearm (compared to the large, which is the size of a newborn). Great food, great ambiance! Only drawback is the traffic in the area and parking - but I LOVE Alki! read more

Authentic & spicy Mexican food . . . no Tex-Mex here! And, their prices are reasonable. Next time, my husband & I will probably split a large wet burrito. The staff is hit or miss, some are perfect and remember you and your order and always serve with a smile and great conversation. Others I think are new to serving and take your order but don't really do much more or go the extra mile. As for the food and drinks? Awesome! The menu is pretty simple but everything is done just right. They have vegetarian/vegan options and the salsa is addictive. I love their burritos! They remind me of a place in New Orleans that we used to go to all the time. I would order from them 2-3x per week if my husband allowed it. I still need to dine in so o can experience the salsa bar but with two crazy boys, we tend to do take out regularly. read more

Worst service, condescending staff and terrible food. The outdoor patio is about as good as it gets. Ordered a scratch margarita which apparently is just watered down tequila, watery agave and a few limes. Talked with the server and in a very condescending tone responded "that's what happens when you shake the tequila and agave." Chips taste like store bought and again, watered down salsa. Don't waste your time - there are better places on Alki. read more

This spot ROCKS. I lived nearby and went here about once per week. Food was great, atmosphere is a bit dark but still good, service was good. I had a chimichanga the first time I went and it was good. The second time I went, I got the Steak Mission Style Burrito. The mission burritos are FIRE. Amazing. The steak had great texture and the other ingredients in there were perfectly weighted against each other. That burrito was my order every other time I went there. I've eaten there with friends and they loved it as well. I like their sauces, just make sure the lid is on there before you turn the bottle over. One time I got a bottle of sauce from the bartender (all others by me were in use) and the lid was loose... turned it over and dumped the whole bottle of verde sauce on my plate. They have the option to make a burrito "wet" meaning that they put enchilada sauce and a bit of cheese on there. Do it. It makes a 6/10 burrito into 9.5/10. There is a good but dark ambiance. It's got sort of a punk/metal theme with the music they play, but I'm not a rocker at all and I enjoyed it. I'd say the staff also gave that impression, but I don't really have any proof of that besides some tattoos and earrings--which everyone has. I usually sat at the bar and got food and a drink or two. They made pretty stiff drinks. Beer on tap was also good and cold. Perhaps my favorite thing about this place besides the food: HOCKEY ON THE TV!!! read more

Really enjoyed the down and dirty ambiance in the restaurant/ bar especially the morning after the late night rowdy Cinco De Mayo crowd left the wait-staff dazed, confused, and potentially hungover; nonetheless the salsa was good (One of my standards of measurement for Mexican joints) and the chilaquiles was pretty good (better than I make at home). Go and enjoy- I need to go back when the staff is in better shape. read more

Chupacabra has some of my favorite mexican food in Seattle. I always make sure to stop by here when I'm on Alki. Their large wet burritos are huge and tasty, and their sauces are top notch. Don't expect quick service, though. read more

Love this place! Especially when I'm craving some beer battered fish tacos! So good. I'll be here on a sunny summer day when I want to enjoy a lunch or dinner outside on their patio. Let me start by saying I love Mexican food and how thrilled I was when I searched the area and found a place that was allergen friendly. They post on website how accommodating they are for food allergies. Me and my daughter are very allergic to dairy, soy, and egg. Upon my arrival, the waitress was not very pleasant when I stated these facts. I asked her if the meat and tortillas contained soy products because they sometimes do. She rolled her eyes and went to go ask. Then I asked about their vegan cheese and she went back to the kitchen and asked, obviously annoyed by this request. When she came back I asked if she knew if the guacamole might contain soy or dairy. She responded in a snarky tone "at this point I assume everything in our kitchen has soy" By this time I was so let down I decided to just get a beverage and eat my own granola bar I had packed in my diaper bag with me. I was really let down and will not visit again. I hope she realizes her attitude lost future business. read more

It's a great location right in a Alki just wish the food was better. Our server was ok, forgot the appetizer that we ordered and brought it with our dinner. I ordered the "shrimp" tacos, shell was hard and cold I only ate one and picked ya the others. The burrito was good but needed the hot sauce to make it better. Lame staff. Cant figure out why people rave about the food either. My first visit there I turned around and walked out because it smelled like body odor. My second visit I figured out that it was the servers that were the ones that actually Birds one stinking up the place. Apparently not wearing deodorant is " cool " . Then the 2nd time, I was desperate so I gave in. Food was edible but expensive and very small servings on the beans and rice. I hate that. 2 cheap dishes that for a scoop more would make it almost worth it. In general I find the atmosphere pretentious and for no good reason. Lived in Seattle 30 years. Loved and miss Mamas. Tasty margaritas and really awesome service!!! The food was also delicious. We had the vegan nachos which were sooo good, a vegetarian burrito, vegan tacos, and fish tacos. They also have vegetarian "meat" options which I need to go back and partake in. My cousin got the vegan tacos but our waiter accidentally misheard and brought out real cheese on them and they were so nice and accommodating about replacing them! Even gave us a free margarita for our trouble. Now that's good service. read more

I've been here a couple times now and haven't been disappointed. This place is in a perfect location to grab food and drinks right on Alki. The mango daiquiri and margaritas are definitely a must-try! The sauces on the table are also a nice touch- definitely one of my favorite spots in West Seattle. read more

walked to Alki for a late brunch this morning and decided to give El Chupacabra a try. We both had the Huevos Rancheros which were pretty tasty. I wasn't too sure about the corn tortilla (I'm used to my tortillas being fried) but it was fine - the beans have a nice kick to them. No complaints about the Bloody Mary's either! read more

I've been to this restaurant at the Phinney Ridge location but it has been years. I decided to check out this one the other night with some friends and we had a good time. The chips and salsa and guac were good and the size of our meals were great for the price we paid. I got the two enchiladas, one pork and one chesse. It also came with rice and beans and I can't believe I actually finished the entire plate - stuffed! It was mighty tasty though and they didn't skimp on the stuffing inside of the enchiladas. The cadillac margarita was ok but our server was nice and efficient so that made up for it. The worst part of the whole experience was the terrible music blasting in our faces! It was Pantera or something just as screechy and bad, not pleasant atmosphere music. Next time we'll be sure not to choose the booth with the speaker right above it just for that very reason! read more
